wonderful book, for kids of all ages 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my son, to prepare for the arrival of his baby sister. He was only 16m when I started reading it to him, and almost 2 when his sister ws born. He LOVED this book. he requested it nightly (making my life easier cause I would have read it anyway =)) He was so excited to be the BIG brother by the time his sister arrived, and I really believe this book helped with that. It points out all the great thing tha big kids can do that babies cannot. It also show the care and attention a baby will require, at the same time showing how both the baby and big sibling are special. Even after the birth of my daughter I continued to recite the book, when my son would want her to eat play ect, I would say "the baby is to little to walk, to little to talk to little to play with toys, to little to eat pizza and apples and ice cream. " this would satisfy him, and he'd move on. I would certainly buy/recommend this book to anyone exspecting another child.

Editorial Review:

The author/artist creators of How I Was Adopted present this child's-eye view of family life, deftly describing the joy of welcoming a new sibling into the family. A companion volume to I'm a Big Sister.

My New Baby 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a cute book, but with no text. It's great for talking about new baby with siblings. There are some new books out called "Baby Brother" and "Baby Sister" which are good for getting them ready for a new baby. "The New Baby" has a great story and is great to read to them. Now "The New Baby" comes in a sticker book also. It depends on what is more important to you.

Disappointed! 1 out of 5 stars.

Maybe it's my preggo brain, but I did not realize that this was a picture book with no words. I never would have purchased a picture book for my 2 1/2 year old. The pictures themselves are okay, but some words would have been nice.

cute book 4 out of 5 stars.

it takes a little imagination because there are no words to the book. but my son (2 years old) and i enjoy flipping through the pages and making up our own story (stories).

Disappointing!! This book has no words! 1 out of 5 stars.

I was very disappointed with this book. Unfortunately I purchased "Waiting for Baby" in the same order but have not received it yet. The product description does not state that it is only a picture book.

wondeful book for toddlers 5 out of 5 stars.

Our 27 month old son loves this book and its companion, "Waiting for Baby" by the same author. We talk about what's going on in the pictures and he's always noticing new things, even after repeated readings. I like this book because it presents the introduction of a new baby as a natural, happy event. The mom is pictured breastfeeding not once, but twice and the dad is shown changing diapers, dressing the baby, strapping on a baby carrier and cooking dinner. It is rare to find a book which depicts both parents so actively engaging in the the care of a newborn. And the illustrations are just gentle and sweet too. Great little books for anyone with a young child.

My 22 month old loves this book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I'm expecting our 2nd child (a boy) in 5 weeks and just purchased this book for my 22 month old daughter. She has wanted to read it over and over and over (whew!) and recites it now when she's playing by herself. The illustrations are cute, there were plenty of things to point out to her and I substituted some of the phrases in the book (i.e. saying "baby brother" instead of "baby) to help her associate the book with what we've been verbally trying to prepare her for during the last few months. We'll see if it makes a difference once the baby actually gets here but so far, it seems like she's actually kind of "getting it"...that the new baby in our house will be like the baby in the book and she'll be a big sister, just like the girl in the book.

The best Big Sister book ever 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is one of the best. Very well written with a lot of positive reinforcement for the little big sister. It elevates the status of the big sister, makes her feel important and makes her want to be a big sister. This is in stark contrast with the other books that are out there which induces feelings of neglect on the part of parents and jealousy on the part of the big sister. My daughter was 20 months when she had her baby brother, she loved to read this book then. Now she is 4 and still loves to read this book. There is a version for big brothers too.

Editorial Review:

Warm, loving pictures accompany this upbeat look at how a family grows when a new baby comes home. A companion volume to I'm a Big Brother.

Just OK 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is just OK. A little odd and not that well written. Not really valuable in preparing a little one to become an older sib.

great for older siblings 5 out of 5 stars.

my son is 4 and we recently turned him on to the little critter series. he absolutely adores the whole line and now that we're expecting another baby he's gotten really excited and loves for us to read this book to him.

Pretty good 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Enjoyed the ideas for how big sibling can interact w/new baby.
My 2-yr old wasn't impressed though, and is still too physically rough to do the suggestions, which are more for an infant + big sibling than a newborn + 2 yr old.

Not the usual Little Critter book 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my 2-year-old before we brought baby #2 home from the hospital. It's a cute book, as all Little Critter books are, but it lacks the substance and creativity in the other books.

Editorial Review:

In this well-loved Little Critter picture book, our funny young hero has to get used to a new baby sister. What a problem. The baby doesn't pay attention when Little Critter reads to her. She cries when he makes silly faces. And she can't understand the jokes he tells. It's seems like an impossible task, but Little Critter finally figures out what you CAN do with a new baby -- and becomes a very good brother.

A heart warming masterpiece 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Patricia MacLachlan creates a heart warming masterpiece through a simple country family's connection with each other and their land. All the Places to Love begins with Eli's birth and his first view of the countryside his family calls home. Eli would soon grow to love this countryside through his experiences with his mother, father, and grandparents. They each have a place on the farm, which holds a special place in their heart. Mama loves the hill where she can see the sun rise on one side and set on the other. Papa love the fields and working in them. Grandma shares her love for the river with Eli as they sail notes down stream to one another. The barn grows special to Eli's heart after sharing experiences with Grandpa working in a place that brings joy to his life. Eli creates his personal getaway where the spring rains come and turn the meadows into marsh. The paintings by Mike Wimmer combined with the words by MacLachlan capture the passion filled anticipation of Eli as he awaits the birth of his baby sister. Eli is eager to show Sylvie "all the places to love."

Editorial Review:

Within the sanctuary of a loving family, baby Eli is born and, as he grows, "learns to cherish the people and places around him, eventualy passing on what he has discovered to his new baby sister, Sylvie: 'All the places to love are here . . . no matter where you may live.' This loving book will be something to treasure."'BL."The quiet narrative is so intensely felt it commands attention. . . . a lyrical celebration."'K.

Love it! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is very simple and I wasn't sure my daughter would like it, but my 21 month old adores it and wants to read it over and over again!

Favorite from baby-hood on 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What a great story. The illustrations perfectly match the simple words. Any book that Mommy can memorize and then recite in the car while the toddler turns the pages is OK with me.

Actually, I'm not the only Mommy I know who has this one memorized -- a friend got stuck in an elevator with little ones and passed the 25 minutes until they were rescued by reciting this story.

It's a great one -- little children understand the determination, the perplexity, the fear, and the contentment of the little bird as he goes on his quest. The drawings are just right. And then the wonderful ending. Ah! How sweet is childhood.

This is a lovely story.

Editorial Review:

P.D. Eastman. While his mother is off looking for food, a baby bird hatches from his egg. Embarking on a hilarious, at times very touching, hunt for his mother, the little bird encounters a variety of creatures. Paperback.

Oh, Baby the Places You'll Go! 4 out of 5 stars.

Dear Baby,

Me wife got this book from a friend who's name was Brook.
Read it and breed it and enjoy she said while she cooked; So we got really busy one-sy, two-sy, and three-sy all in one nightsy we did.
You will be bornsy about nine monthsy after we sealed the deedsy, and daddy slept wellski after we mades they I did.

I shall read this book to an embryo in utero you see, and maybe I'll do it while's eating for free. Your brain will be insane with all the verbage you'll hear. Soon you'll bounce while I bald and tell bad jokes in your ear. Those wrinkles I receive you'll give me for free. One-ski, Two-ski, I see more-ski before I forty, OH DEAR. My dad-ski warned me of all the trouble you'll cause. He said, "You'll get a child who will grey and shave you like me." I said, "A, I'm not grey, but I occasionally take a rolaids before I take my wife for a jump in the Hay, Hay Hay."

In the end the book claims you'll be smarter and a better farter if I read to you this day. I'll do it I say, just keep you little pee pee at bay, and promise not to spray....

Bottom Line: Great little book. Cute read it to your child in utero and watch the brain grow. I had to use the word embryo with utero, but your childs not an embryo.

Editorial Review:

A charming gift for expectant parents, Oh Baby, the Places You'll Go is designed to be an in utero introduction to the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. Adapted from his works, and touching on them all from Horton to Who-ville, author Tish Rabe has maintained Seuss's style perfectly. Your baby is the unnamed star of the book, and reading directly to your tummy becomes easy with lines like "the words I am saying you hear in your heart, and know that I wish you the very best start." Filled with the good doctor's whimsical illustrations, you'll find all your favorite characters, with a short rhyme that mentions each one--and just enough direct quotations to get those infants stimulated when you read Seuss's whole books to them at a later date. --Jill Lightner

Grown Up Kids 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book, which is like so many lives of other teenage men, was one of my favorite books. I really enjoyed reading as Bobby, unselfishly put his life on a hold to raise his child. It was time for him to start to become a man, a grown up, at 16, but he didn't have the time. Time was up he had to be a grown up, a man, a father. I enjoyed this book so much I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. to finish it.
He also had to raise the baby on his own because his mom was never around and told him it was his responsibility and he needed to be a man about it. His girlfriend... well, you read the book and you'll find out. Although, I wish it had a little more information about what happened to Nia, but all in all, this book showed alot about taking the responsibility for your mistakes and to learn from them. And Bobby did just that in this story even though he really did do the first part last.

Editorial Review:

Bobby's a classic urban teenager. He's restless. He's impulsive. But the thing that makes him different is this: He's going to be a father. His girlfriend, Nia, is pregnant, and their lives are about to change forever. Instead of spending time with friends, they'll be spending time with doctors, and next, diapers. They have options: keeping the baby, adoption. They want to do the right thing.

If only it was clear what the right thing was.

The book is well written; the illustrations amazing!! I recommend this book to anyone with a special "little one" in their lives!

cute story but not best for getting ready for new baby 3 out of 5 stars.

I bought this for my 19 month old to begin to ready her for the arrival of her little sister. When reading past reviews I figured out that the story had no text printed. I decided to purchase anyway thinking it would be easy to make up our own story. The book is cute and pretty easy to compose your own story but would be better with SOME text. The pictures take you through what mom and big brother and dad do to get ready for new baby. Nice concept but could use some text.

great book 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book. It is an illustrated book, with no words, so you can make up the story yourself using your family's names. It goes through a lot of the transitions of pregnancy to having a baby, like getting the room and crib ready and visiting the doctor. Great gender neutral book as well. I am very pleased with this book.
