Andrew Peach and Lucien Longtin, SJ provide a succinct but rich overview of Catholic ethics for high school students. The language is accessible yet rooted in the scholarship of secular philosophy (Aristotle, Kant, Mill) and Christian morality (Magisterium, Natural Law, Scripture). Many of the examples take their cue from cultural phenomena and invite student reflection on their own experience with ethics. The only improvements I would like to see in the text would be a more in depth explanation of contemporary ethical applications and there is a section on lives of moral exemplars (Pedro Arrupe, Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy Day) that seems out of place and could be used to enhance an already accessible resource for high school students. The book is a rare find for secondary classrooms since much of the current literature is either intellectually limited (i.e., parish books with poor theology) or too abstract (i.e., academic theology without concrete applications).

Overall, a great starting point for the curriculum of ethics courses!

This book was recommended to me by a friend. I love this book!! My kids (7,4) and I read a passage every morning after breakfast. The stories are easily understood by my kids. They are short and capturing. Sometimes my kids will ask questions regarding our reading. I enjoy this special time with my children. Most of all it is coming from the Bible!!

One day my 15 year old son told me that he didn't know the stories in the Bible. I got to thinking...I knew bits and pieces of all the main stories, but I didn't really think I could repeat them to my son. I was embarassed, so I went right to Amazon to find a book that explained the Bible in a fun, understanding, interesting way. I also wanted something that hadn't been "modernized". I didn't want to read that God is our Mother, or words like "humankind". I wanted a good old-fashioned, biblically true book. This one exceded my expectations!! I am halfway done and have learned so much! I read it to my son, and he enjoys it. I have not been able to put it down, so my son is not as far as me. I can't believe how much I DID'NT know. I would highly recommend this for anyone. Even if you are very familiar with the Bible, it's a great refresher.

Sweet story, expressive illustrations 5 out of 5 stars.

There is a sweetness to this illustrated storybook about a young boy whose siblings all know what their passion is, but he doesn't know his. This book is best for kids unsure of what they want to be when they grow up. That description fits almost everyone! When young Linden feels anxious that he hasn't found his niche, readers will undoubtedly relate.

Linden's older brother Tony and scientist dad gently help him search for his "it," his passion. They remind him to have patience and trust in God to reveal this special talent. "Just keep having faith," Dad tells Linden. The boy finds his "it" during a trip to the dentist.

This true story was written by the head coach of the 2006 Super Bowl champions.

Expressive watercolors fill the pages with color from edge to edge. The loving African-American family is realistically rendered. Illustrator Amy June Bates has a knack for showing movement and action, and depicting real people.

Under the dust jacket the cover has the exact same artwork on the front and photo of Tony Dungy on the back.

When I was in my ninth grade year we were required to read this book. Reading it helped me to understand more about my Catholic faith. It helped me threw my early teenage years and the start of a new school by presenting stories and quotes from other people. I highly reccomend that you buy/ read this book!

As a student at a Catholic school I've had to read this for my religion class. I am not a Catholic and I found that this book gave me a good understanding of the Catholic faith, hence the title of the book, but I also found that it focused a lot on developing and understanding you (me) an individual and that its purpose was not to try to convert me to the Catholic religion.

First of all, this book is NOT on the recommended list of formation books that has been put out by the US Bishops even though it is widely used by many catholic schools. Even though its doctrine is sound, its approach to teaching our faith may be confusing to teens. It has a "we understand what it is like to be a teen" mentality. My teen is using it at school and is constantly uncomfortable by the insinuations in the book that a teen should be having a crisis in their faith at this age. This book presents the catholic faith as "just another suggestion."

My only (big) beef with this book is that the author consistently paraphrases the Bible, then puts the paraphrase in quotes. Perhaps that sounds nit picky, but then again we are talking about God's Word.

I've been looking for a "curriculum" to use with home-churching my kids. This book should do the trick - each lesson has suggestions on readings, prayers, and hymns to go with it. Do a web search on the hymn music and you can have your own little church service in your home! Perfect for those who want to have more control over their kids' religious education or if you don't have a church with a good children's program near you.

As a mother of 6 children under 7, I was looking for a book to simply teach bible doctine to my children. This book has a very organized way of laying out who God is, what that means to my children, and what their role is in their world. The excerpts are short enough to keep their attention, but thorough to cover the concept. I love this book and love reading it to my children before bed. I recommend this book to every family!
