I just love reading Ellen Hopkins books. Although Crank and Glass are my favorites, Impulse is a very close third. I love that we get three perspectives in this novel. The way that Ellen is able to reach teenage audiences impresses me every time. I will continue to buy and recommend all her books to my high school students. Thanks Ellen!!

Ellen Hopkins attempts to break new ground with her book about a daughter's descent into crytal meth addiction and, while I grieve for her struggle, comes off as an untalented peddler of poor writing.

While the story is compelling, a once perfect daughter falls off and begins to use drugs, and speaks to fears bread into us all concerning drug use and addiction; her utilization of free-verse "poetry" is a mockery to poetry itself. Hopkins is able to leave the reader with sparse details in some areas, and extreme details in others; thus allowing herself as author to escape from the duty of conveying the story with any real sense of literary authority or authenticity. While she is heralded as a "ground breaker" and "experimental genius" her work pails in comparison to other experimental fiction, and is a poor use of the poetic form.

In the end this is a book for a high schooler to read for fun, it is low in literary value and an easy read that goes by quick and painlessly with no real impact besides from what a reader might experience have they not been exposed to fiction that succeeds where Hopkins fails.

Love it. My kids love it. We first saw this book in a larger version at our pediatrician's office and we read it while waiting to be seen. My daughter loved it so much that I looked it up as soon as we returned home. The story is so well known, I won't even bother to rehash it. Even though I think I can... (A little humor there)

As usual, the visual component is very important as far as I'm concerned and the vintage art is fabulous. It reminds me of things I saw while cleaning up my grandparents' house. Left behind story books and toys from my mother and her sister. Very nostalgic.

This particular version of the book is quite small which I like, but my daughter wants a larger version. I believe it is available in a lager size here at Amazon.

Great, classic story! Good for negative children who are always saying "I can't." 4 out of 5 stars.

The story itself is great-- I like sharing its meaning with the little "I can't do it" children who are in my life. Children seem to like the pictures in this book. However, the quality of the binding is not as great as I hoped it would be-- it's already starting to pull apart after just several readings.

My 2.5 year old daughter received this book as a gift and we have never read the first one. The story is wonderful, funny and cute and the illustrations are a very creative mix with real photography. My daughter has this book memorized now and reads it to me which is priceless. I'm getting her the first one for her 3rd birthday and I'm sure it will be a great addition to our home library.

I remember enjoying these books as a boy and love sharing them with my son. Besides being enjoyable stories with admirable characters they are great for teaching reading. Solving the puzzles requires reading with attention to the details, logic and imagination. Sometimes young readers would rather skip difficult to read details but with these books they know they need to get each word.

This is a wonderful book for boys who like adventure. My son is dyslexic and doesn't like to read but is required to read 3 over the summer. It's hard to get him interested in any book, but he liked these, and they are a fairly easy read but still sophisticated enough to keep a 10 year old interested.

The collection consists of 3 books - Frog and Toad All Year, Frog and Toad Are Friends, and Frog and Toad Together. My 8 year old nephew who has reading difficulties loves these books. He now shows an interest in reading. Please keep up with the stories Mr. Lobel!

I bought a our first Arnold Lobel book based on the drawings and the layout. It looked appropriate for my son who is 5. It became a favourite on the first reading and we have bought and read many more since. This collection is full of playful, original stories that bring to mind television shows like Little Bear and Franklin.

These stories have fueled hours of laughter and delight. I recommend them highly along with other Lobel books like Mouse Tales and Mouse soup; they are the perfect length for bed time. The topics and themes about everyday conundrums, serendipity and friendship are entertaining, thought provoking, and a gentle and amusing way to suggest to young minds what it means to be a good friend.

I really enjoyed the book Rules. I think it is an honest look at how siblings feel about one another especially if one sibling has a disability. I think this book is a great read for young children because it delivers a great message that having an autistic brother can be hard, yet the reader leaves with a sense of the love Catherine feels for her brother. I recommend this book to my 5th grade students. So far they all have enjoyed reading the book. Some background knowledge may be needed as the book doesn't fully explain autism and there may be some misconceptions about why David acts the way he does.
