Where's My Stuff? 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The moment I put this book down, I wished that I had found it befor emy Senior year. "Where's My Stuff?" contains nearly every little bit of study and and organizational wisdom I've picked up throguh my high-school career, and it would have been helpful going into it with all that knowledge condensed in one book, whick I'm quite glad this book does. The practical, step-by-step instriuctions on how to organize class materials were incredibly helpful, and this book does a great job of preparing you to manage your time and your personla space. With its diagrams, charts, and overall utility, I would recommend "Where's My Stuff?" To anyone entering high-school. I'm definitely keeping it for college.

Editorial Review:

Free time is great. Unless you spend all of it searching for your homework, your mobile phone, or a clean pair of shorts. Then free time is not so great. In fact, it's non-existent. If chaos and disorganisation are swallowing all of your free time, "Where's My Stuff?" can help you to get it back. Inside, you will learn how to systematically organise your school stuff, your time, and your room. The book includes: innovative notebook systems; backpack maintenance tips; practical pointers for managing your schedule; a template for your own personalised daily planner; and, interior design-inspired techniques to make your room your favourite place to be. With fun and useful illustrations, easy-to-follow charts, and 4 ample doses of humour, "Where's My Stuff?" is an incredible asset for any-one who wants to get it together and keep it together, for good.

Positive images 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an excellent book for building confidence in African-American girls about the natural beauty of their hair. The pictures are wonderfully done and contribute to the feeling of pride you get when reading this book. My daughter especially related to the part where the little girl makes music with the beads in her hair, and I try to remember to be as compassionate as the mom in the book when I comb her hair.

MUCH BETTER THAN NAPPY HAIR 5 out of 5 stars.

IF YOU WERE THINKING OF BUYING THE BOOK "NAPPY HAIR", GET THIS ONE INSTEAD. ITS BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN.

Loved This Book! 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter loved this book as it has vivid illustrations and really helps to promote a love for African American hair!

Just what you expect 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My older niece loves this book, all about a black girl who, as you expect, loves her hair.

She describes it in various poetic and imaginative terms - her hair can be like a globe, or be spun into a braid; it's curly like a vine winding into space; she likes to wear her hair in "ponytails like wings".

There are some unnecessarily didactic elements - kids at school teased her, so her teacher talked to them about having Pride in Your Heritage (a good concept, the whole book is about that, but that page wasn't so well-handled, I think), and her mother starts talking to her directly about how she's "lucky to have this head of hair" when she complains that haircombing *hurts* sometimes.

Also, some of the illustrations have odd perspective - I'm thinking specifically of one where she's going down the street with beads in her hair.

However, overall this is a really great book. And my nieces (aged five and 2.5) agree. They love reading this book.

Editorial Review:

No matter how gently Mama pulls as she combs Keyana's hair, it still hurts. Keyana doesn't feel lucky to have such a head of hair, but Mama tells her she is because she can wear it any way she chooses.

The librarian recommended...and it worked! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My daughter is supposed to be reading chapter books but she can't get into them so doesn't finish them. On our last library visit, I asked for help from the librarian. She said, "She just hasn't found the right book yet." This was one of the 'books' she suggested because it was audio. "Judy Blume is great and this should help spark her interest." So we got it. Well, not only did it spark her interest, it sparked mine as well! We enjoyed listening to it together in the car and even at home. One of the things I enjoy most about it is it stays centered around Sheila's thoughts/point of view and it is very entertaining and funny. The slumber party on disc three made us laugh hysterically. I never thought I'd ever try audio books but this was a great idea and now my daughter is checking out chapter books and reading them, thanks to this!

BOTTOM LINE: If you have a reluctant reader, get this fun, entertaining audio book and see if it doesn't spark your child's interest in reading!

memoirs of a teenage amnesiac 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

it was a good book, and had a good message of finding yourself and who you want to be. it shows a different side to what you might think your life might be like if you were a teenage girl who forgot everything that happened in the last 4 years of her life.

Editorial Review:

If Naomi had picked tails, she would have won the coin toss. She wouldn’t have had to go back for the yearbook camera, and she wouldn’t have hit her head on the steps. She wouldn’t have woken up in an ambulance with amnesia. She certainly would have remembered her boyfriend, Ace. She might even have remembered why she fell in love with him in the first place. She would understand why her best friend, Will, keeps calling her “Chief.” She’d know about her mom’s new family. She’d know about her dad’s fiancée. She never would have met James, the boy with the questionable past and the even fuzzier future, who tells her he once wanted to kiss her. She wouldn’t have wanted to kiss him back.

But Naomi picked heads.
After her remarkable debut, Gabrielle Zevin has crafted an imaginative second novel all about love and second chances.

This book makes me feel good. 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Whenever I feel bad about myself, hating myself, etc, I pick up this book and start reading it. Then I feel good about myself. Of course, though, I don't really need braces yet but I will when I'm 12! The book gives you lots of information on how to eat healthy, exercise, and if you are maybe 10-15, it tells you what to put in your back pack if you get pimples, your period starts, etc. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! P.S I am ten years old.

loved it 5 out of 5 stars.

Girl Books 4 out of 5 stars.

We all know where 'Real Beauty' comes from. Why not start your young lady out early in learning that beauty is more than skin deep? Help the preteen in your life be more selfconfident and beautiful by knowing how to accomplish this elusive trait.

Dare to be great. Dare to be YOU!! 5 out of 5 stars.

If you have a young girl in your family circle, I urge you to give her a copy of Real Beauty: 101 Ways to Feel Great About You (American Girl Library.) I promise you that the benefits will be of lifelong value! If more girls had this sense of self-worth, we would have fewer eating disorders, schoolyard bullying, distorted body images, and other issues that plague the lives of teens -- and adults.

Simply put, this book is worth its weight in gold.

A favorite of mine 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This quickly became my favorite Dr. Suess when it first came out. I couldn't find it available everywhere. I then discovered it on Amazon and it's one of my favorite children's gifts. It's not all fluffy, it speaks to every mood and I love the non traditional art work in the book.

A great Engagement gift! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This was an Engagement gift! Because life, each day, is colored by many emotions, it was meaningful! When one commits to another, there are bound to be "Many Colored Days". This was wonderful - to offer the young couple! Advice: Help each other through the "dark" days and relish in the BRIGHT ones! It is short and sends a message! Thank you!

Editorial Review:

Dr. Seuss's youngest concept book is now available in a sturdy board book designed especially for his youngest fans. All of the original stunning illustrations and imaginative type designs of Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher are here, as are the intriguing die-cut squares in the cover. A brighter, more playful cover design makes this board book edition all the more appropriate as a color concept book to use with babies or a feelings and moods book to discuss with toddlers.

a poorly written book! 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is a poorly written adventure. From the start you know that he is going to get the dog in the end. It is not an enjoyable reader its just a book torchering you to stop all the way through it. Its insigneficant charecters have no meaning they all seem to go against marty, and are all cruel. This is a book of pain, dont read it. It will waste your money and your time.

Editorial Review:

Eleven-year-old Marty Preston loves to spend time up in the hills behind his home near Friendly, West Virginia. Sometimes he takes his .22 rifle to see what he can shoot, like some cans lined up on a rail fence. Other times he goes up early in the morning just to sit and watch the fox and deer. But one summer Sunday, Marty comes across something different on the road just past the old Shiloh schoolhouses -- a young beagle -- and the trouble begins.

What do you do when a dog you suspect is being mistreated runs away and comes to you? When it is someone else's dog? When the man who owns him has a gun? This is Marty's problem, and he finds it is one he has to face alone. When his solution gets too big for him to handle, things become more frightening still. Marty puts his courage on the line, and discovers in the process that it is not always easy to separate right from wrong. Sometimes, however, you do almost anything to save a dog.

great story, great pictures, great big strong book. My family and I enjoy this book a lot.

Great Book - Thanks for Ruining It 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is simply a great book for kids. The original illustrations weren't very good (much better in this version), the text doesn't make any sense and the story is awful. Guess what? Kids don't care. I loved this book as a kid and I've seen my own kids love it too. This is the single most requested read in my household - there were days when we read it 10 times.

As for you idiots who worry about the sex of the trains, perhaps you should also spend be concerned about whether a 'little' engine is offensive to short people, why the girls get dolls and the little boys get pen-knives, or why the little engine is blue instead of black.

Give me a break, let's not ruin a great children's story with this kind of nonsense.

Editorial Review:

Everyone loves The Little Engine That Could, that classic tale of the determined little engine that, despite its size, triumphantly pulls a train full of toys to the waiting children on the other side of a mountain.

Now the great Loren Long (Mr. Peabody’s Apples) has brilliantly re-illustrated this classic story, bringing it exuberantly to life for today’s child. Get on board for the publishing event of the year.

don't give up! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book had a huge impact on me as a child.

Everyone told the boy his carrot seed would not come up. Even the adults. My reaction was this: adults know everything, so why is this boy still trying? I was truly surprised when the carrot seed sprouted, and I clapped and cheered. My next reaction was this: maybe *I* shouldn't give up, even when other people tell me to. This is one of the greatest lessons I've ever learned.

I read this book to my own kids now, and they love it as much as I do.

Editorial Review:

When a little boy plants a carrot seed, everyone tells him it won't grow. But when you are very young, there are some things that you just know, and the little boy knows that one day a carrot will come up. So he waters his seed, and pulls the weeds, and he waits ...

First published in 1945 and never out of print, this timeless combination of Ruth Krauss's simple text and Crockett Johnson's eloquent illustrations creates a triumphant and deeply satisfying story for readers of all ages.

This type of book should be shared by all. Silverstein is a master who I still feel isn't talked about enough.

Don't forget 'The Missing Piece'!

profound 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This was a gift to me after a divorce. The content is simple yet profound and I love to share it with my children in hopes that they too will know that relationships are at their healthiest when people are whole and complete, rather than half of a whole like a friendship necklace (to the chagrin of tweeners everywhere!) ;) I now share this with others who are going through relationship troubles or struggle with their self-worth.

Editorial Review:

The missing piece sat alone
waiting for someone
to come along
and take it somewhere....

The different ones it encounters - and what it discovers in its helplessness - are portrayed with simplicity and compassion in the words and drawings of Shel Silverstein.
