The set includes: Little House in the Big Woods, Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, By the Shores of Silver Lake, and The Long Winter.

Little House in the Big Woods

Wolves and panthers and bears roam the deep Wisconsin woods in the late 1870's. In those same woods, Laura lives with Pa and Ma, and her sisters, Mary and Baby Carrie, in a snug little house built of logs. Pa hunts and traps. Ma makes her own cheese and butter. All night long, the wind howls lonesomely, but Pa plays the fiddle and sings, keeping the family safe and cozy.

Little House on the Prairie

Pa Ingalls decides to sell the little log house, and the family sets out for Indian country! They travel from Wisconsin to Kansas, and there, finally, Pa builds their little house on the prairie. Sometimes farm life is difficult, even dangerous, but Laura and her family are kept busy and are happy with the promise of their new life on the prairie.

On the Banks of Plum Creek

Laura's family's first home in Minnesota is made of sod, but Pa builds a clean new house made of sawed lumber beside Plum Creek. The money for materials will come from their first wheat crop. Then, just before the wheat is ready to harvest, a strange glittering cloud fills the sky, blocking out the sun. Soon millions of grasshoppers cover the field and everything on the farm. In a week's time, there is no wheat crop left at all.

By the Shores of Silver Lake

Pa Ingalls heads west to the unsettled wilderness of the Dakota Territory. When Ma, Mary, Laura, Carrie, and baby Grace join him, they become the first settlers in the town of De Smet. And Pa begins work on the first building in what will soon be a brand-new town on the shores of Silver Lake.

The Long Winter

The first terrible storm comes to the barren prairie in October. Then it snows almost without stopping until April. Snow has reached the rooftops, and no trains can get through with food or coal. The people of De Smet are starving, including Laura's family, who wonder how they're going to make it through this terrible winter. It is young Almanzo Wilder who finally understands what needs to be done. He must save the town, even if it means risking his own life.

A warm oportunity to reflect on special people and places. 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Donald Crews departs from his usual simple text about such things as trucks and boats to share his childhood memories. The bold and colorful illustrations we usually find in his work are replaced by soft gentle colors and lines. Perhaps my endearment to this book stems from my own fond memories of riding the train back to my grandmother's home in Davenport, Iowa. Yet, there is more to this story than shared memories of days gone by. Even young children have memories of warm moments with someone special. As a first grade teacher I share this book with my students. It is a delight to see the special smiles that illuminate their faces, like the sweet smell of Spring, when they think of their special someone. For some children they think, like Crews, of grandma and her special cooking, for others their thoughts are of a visit to mom in a distant state. There thoughts are not meloncholy, like Crews, they are pleasant reminders of the treasures we find in each other.

Editorial Review:

When the train arrived in Cottondale, the summer at Bigmama's house in Florida began. Donald Crews brilliantly evokes the sights, sounds, and emotions of a memorable childhood experience. "A very special book by a superb artist and storyteller."--Horn Book.

Winter on the farm- Little House series 4 out of 5 stars.

Great series of books. Good wholesome reading for children. Great book for younger children with interest in animals.

Wonderful Book for Boys 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a strong, family/work ethic "history" book for boys, which is rare. This is on my list for gifts right along side, "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel".

My daughter loves these stories 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have purchased nearly all the books from the Junie B. Jones collection. My daughter enjoys listening to me read them to her. We originally got one book through scholastic book club through the school and I literally read that book to her over and over again. Having a good amount of the collection just makes it more diversified for me ~ and keeps me interested too.

The books are well written. A girl can identify with the subjects of the book and even though the books are long, they are not so long that 2 or 3 chapters a night doesn't complete the story in 3 nights.

I highly recommend the collection to anyone with a girl in the lower grades at school.

Editorial Review:

The world's funniest kindergartner is back, in her 15th book!

It's almost the end of the school year, and Room Nine is taking a field trip to a farm! There's lots of fun farm stuff there. Like a real actual barn. And a real actual farmer. There's even real alive animals you can pet! Only, where's the gift shop? That's what Junie B. Jones would like to know. Surely no one would want Junie B. to go home empty-handed. . . .

Editorial Review:

Long, long ago, a little girl named Laura Ingalls lived in a little house in the Big Woods of Wisconsin with her Pa, her Ma, her sisters, Mary and Carrie, and their good old bulldog, Jack. One spring day Pa has a wonderful surprise--he is taking the family on a trip into town! Laura is very excited, for she has never been to a town, and this special visit is everything she imagined and more.

Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books have been cherished by generations of readers. Now for the first time, the youngest readers can share her adventure in these very special picture books adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved storybooks. RenÉe Graef's warm paintings, inspired by Garth Williams' classic Little House illustrations, bring Laura and her family lovingly to life.

Laura and Mary get ready for their very first trip from the little house in the Big Woods into town, where a visit to the general store and a picnic by the lake await.

Armadillo Befriends Boot 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

A slightly different tale from Jan Brett. Gone is the European feel of so many of her books. It is replaced by a healthy jargon-filled dose of American Western. Gone are the hedgehogs; welcome the armadillos.

Bo is one of four armadillo brothers. He tends to be curious and wander so his mother tries to keep a close watch on him. Like all armadillos, Bo's eyesight is not very good. So one day while he is following a lizard, he sees a red cowboy boot and thinks it is a red armadillo.

The boot in question is being worn by a young girl who is trying to scuff them up so she won't look like a tenderfoot at the rodeo. But Bo does not see the girl, or the other boot for that matter. Instead, he thinks he has found a playful new friend.

Chasing after the boot, Bo has many experiences while his mother and brothers search for him (as seen in the side panels). Bo's adventure takes him across the rodeo arena, to a bar-b-que, into an encounter with a jalapeno, to a barn dance, a hayloft, and ultimately to the truth about his new friend.

In the end we learn that while Bo has learned the truth of his day's adventures, he knows just what to do when he feels a little mischievous.

I usually give Jan Brett's books five stars but gave this one only four. I did that only because of the heavy use of Western jargon that needs to be explained to young ears in order for the story to make sense. But it is still a very fun book with beautiful illustrations.

Editorial Review:

When Bo spots what he thinks is a "rip-roarin', rootin'-tootin', shiny red armadillo," he knows what he has to do. Follow that armadillo! Bo leaves his mother and three brothers behind and takes off for a two-stepping, bronco-bucking adventure. Jan Brett turns her considerable talents toward the Texas countryside in this amusing story of an armadillo on his own.

My Son LOVES this Book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

He wore the first one out that Grandma had purchased at a supermarket and I had to find a second online through Amazon, but it's the first book he gave me kisses for when I read to him. He is fascinated by machinery as I'm sure most boys are.

Cute and sturdy 4 out of 5 stars.

A cute, yet simple book with vibrant colors--my 1 year old loves it. The pages are thicker and sturdier than most board books. While it does make it slightly harder for my child to turn the pages by himself, I believe this book will hold up better than most of his books.

Review: King of the Wind 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

King of the Wind is a great book by Marguerite Henry. It is about a mute boy named Agba and his horse Sham. Agba goes with Sham on many adventures together. Agba goes with Sham from the royal stables in Morocco to Gog Magog. Sham also sires many winning foals and when he is gone, Agba goes back to Morocco.
I enjoyed this book very much. I liked it because it is about horses. I also liked it because it was full of adventure. It was sad and exciting and there were many parts where Sham and Agba were seperated. Agba was very brave for a young, mute boy and Sham kept him company with his firy spirit that only Agba could control.
My favorite part was when the cook tried to drive Sham. He wanted to show that he did not need Agba to drive Sham. He left Agba at the royal kitchens then set out. Sham bidded his time till the cart was groaning with goods and a young pig. Then "BAM!" He went wild and ran like the wind, sending the goods, the pig, and the cook into the air. The cook runs after first the pig, then Sham, then the pig, until he is so confused that he catched nither. In the end the apple woman cathes Sham and the cook is so fustrated that he sells Sham to a cruel man. I like this part best because it is so funny and shows Shams firy nature.

Editorial Review:

Follows the adventures of the Arabian stallion brought to England to become one of the founding sires of the Thoroughbred breed and the mute Arab stable boy who tended him with loyalty and devotion all his life.

I Went Walking 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My toddler loves the book because of the repetition, and his loving it is really what matters. To me,it reminds me too much of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin/Eric Carle. The illustrations are mediocre and there are only six animals in the book.

I Went Walking Childrens Book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The book was purchased for my daughter who had to read it over the summer for 1st grade. She loved the book and best of all I ordered it one day and it came to my home the next. Thanks for the quick service I will buy from here again.

Great Toddler Reading! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is wonderful. The younger children love the lilting meter of the poetry and the repetitive phrasing. Aside from the somewhat creepy and androgenous main character, the illustrations are beautiful. The pictures show the animals hiding, allowing older children to guess the animal before it is revealed on the following pages. Older children are also able to recite along with the repetitive phrasing, allowing them to feel like real "readers."

Editorial Review:

A young child goes for a walk and discovers a colorful parade of animals along the way. “What a charmer. . . . An excellent story hour choice.”--Booklist

I have always been a Little House fan, and I wanted to pass on the enjoyment of Laura and her friends to my 5 year old niece. She loves them so much and asks me when she is going to receive another one. It is our special thing because she will only let me read them to her!!

A wonderful idea! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is wonderful! A Little House Book for even the youngest of readers! The complete books of the series may seem a little long for the little ones, this is great to get them familiar with the series. This book is kid sized, and is very well illustrated, the colors are vibrant, Laura would be proud, it is a very cute book! I will be buying more of these books in the future, the Farmer Boy Books are great for getting little boys interested in the Little House Series. A true Winner!

Editorial Review:

It’s an exciting day for Almanzo as the Wilder family visits the county fair in this second My First Little House Book adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic Farmer Boy. There are contests, races, and good things to eat, and Almanzo can’t wait to see what the judges think of his special pumpkin. Jody Wheeler’s luminous illustrations bring Laura’s beloved farmer boy to life.
