Best Kids Books 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I can't forget this book, because of it had several great factors. It covered almost every place a kid may see, with it's name to know what the object is. Each page shows kids different work spaces, lands, city life, even inside a home, room by room.
This would be an excellent book for preschoolers, and even younger as well. Children and their parents may create their own stories with the detailed scenes.

It really IS the BEST word book ever! 5 out of 5 stars.

I LOVE this book! I had it when I was a child. My favorite word in it is on the kitchen page "Batter Spoon"!!!

Great book if you don't mind having to read it all the time! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 17month daughter loves this book! I was into Richard Scarry books growing up and really wanted my baby to like it. Initially I was afraid the illustrations would be too busy for her, but that is clearly not the case. This book is one of three books (the others are big book of animals and book of words) she brings to me just about every thirty minutes, which is driving me a little crazy but I'll just have to deal with it. She really gets into the scenes especially scenes of the circus, zoo, farm, grocery, home, beach, ships, trains, etc. and has built up quite the vocabulary. She's saying the names of the animals and their sounds, bodyparts, the landscape such as tree, sun, moon, cloud, flower and can point to most anything in the pages. The scenes of the airport, trucks and "when you grow up" aren't engaging her yet but I'm sure later when she gets it more.

Richard Scarry books are a beloved classic, they are and will be on the bookshelf in our home (until the grandkids). ;)

Good for Beginner Readers 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a beautifully illustrated dictionary with easy to understand definitions. I gave it 3 stars because I bought it for my 6-year-old daughter, and I find that too often this dictionary does not have the words that she needs to look up. Now I need to buy an additional dictionary to supplement this one.

Excellent first dictionary 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We found this to be an excellent first dictionary. Most things that you want pictures of do have pictures, and the pictures are very appropriate and have helpful captions (usually a sentence describing the picture). The definitions manage rather well to explain the meanings of simple words in even simpler words. Also, with 5,000 words, almost all of the words in a beginning reader's reading vocabulary will be included.

IT'S AN AWESOME DICTIONARY 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I RECOMMAND THIS DICTIONARY, IT IS AWESOME. I BROUGHT IT FOR MY LITTLE BROTHER WHO IS IN THE THIRD GRADE. AND SO FAR, EVERYTIME WE LOOK UP A WORD THAT HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND IT'S THERE. THE DEFINITIONS ARE SIMPLE. IT WAS A GREAT CHOICE.

Editorial Review:

Offering a visual approach to spelling, vocabulary, and grammar, a dictionary features headwords grouping related words and illustrations and a handy reference section to hold young readers' attention while providing them a wealth of information.

my review 5 out of 5 stars.
25 of 27 people found this review helpful.

this book is easily one of the most enjoyable canteloupes we have ever used to jump fish. you simply can't beat this kind of cabbage with turnips or aardvarks.

Great activity, but with one downfall 4 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

My kids love these Mad Lib Juniors, especially because they provide a list of words to choose from in each category, thereby teaching kids about Adjectives, Nouns, Verbs, etc.

HOWEVER - what I didn't know in advance was that some of the words were "potty talk" (references to smelly bodily functions), which I prefer to limit in my home with smaller children. It's still fun, and they love it!

Silly, Creative, Educational Fun! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I am so glad that they came out with a Junior version of Mad Libs. I always had fun with the originals with family and friends growing up. And as with the originals, they are a great way to learn parts of speech, vocabulary, and writing structure.

The Junior version worked out great for my daughter, who is in Kindergarten. (Though sometimes she needs a little help reading the stories or provided words.)There are symbols to show what type of word is needed (ie: star=noun). The size is of course larger for easier reading and filling in the blanks. Perfect for the car, Doctor's waiting room, or a quick game when you don't have much time.

Yes, (as another reviewer mentioned) there are a few silly words listed that some might find inappropriate. (Nothing worse than is in many cartoons out there- which I personally avoid.) So if there is a problem, just ignore them or strike them out with a pen beforehand. There are plenty of others to choose from! It didn't ruin our fun.

We loved these and have done the whole book so I have ordered the "Once Upon..." version. I only wish there were more of these in a book! Still they are a good value. I hope they keep making more of these!!

Editorial Review:

Nobody knows silly better than we do. And with Super Silly Mad Libs Junior, younger readers are introduced to the crazy world of Mad Libs.

Excellent activity book for young kids 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I've seen a lot of products like this, but this is by far the most comprehensive and entertaining for kids. The book is divided into the following sections:

ABCs: 3-4 activities per letter that reinforce letter recognition through mazes, letter tracing, coloring, and practice writing both lowercase and uppercase letters

Phonics: reinforces word and sound recognition with activities like 'circle the pictures that begin with A', identifying the short vowel sounds, and sounding out rhyming words

Spelling and Vocabulary: activities focus on the sight words: I, my, you, and, a, the, is, are, he, she, see, go

Numbers (up to 12): similar to the ABC section but focusing on numbers and counting

Shapes and Colors: identification of colors and shapes

Patterns: takes the shapes/colors section a step furhter by introducing pattern recognition

Sorting and Matching: takes the patterns section a step furhter with activities like 'match the baby animals to their mothers'

Time and Money: identifying time on a clock face, practice writing time (12:00), circle the correct time for each clock, reading time on a digital clock vs a standard clock face, identifying and counting money

Community: identifying different community buildings and professions, writing your own address

Science: identifying the 5 senses, the 4 seasons, recycling, plant growth, animal habitats

Fun and Games: to wrap it all up, there is an extra fun section with more mazes, dot to dots, cut out flash cards, etc

The back of the book also has reward stickers and a pull out picture of a clock to which you can add moveable hands and hang on your wall

I can't get over all the activities jam packed into over 300, easy to pull out, pages. You would have to buy several different activity books to capture all of the lessons included here; and the sections on community and science you rarely find in books like this at all.

When I saw these books on Amazon, I debated whether to go with the Kindergaren book vs the Preschool book for my 4 year old. I decided to go with the K level and figured if it were over his head I'd put it away for a year. I am really glad I went with the K level. There are definitely sections that are a little too hard right now(like the time and money, spelling and vocabulary, etc). But there are SO MANY activites he can do right now, and I know that we'll grow with this book over the next several months.

Finally, as for whether kids like the book, my son practically grabbed the book out of my hands when it came in the mail. He immediately ran and got a fist full of colored pencils and came running over and said 'can we do it right now mommy?'. And so we did.

Editorial Review:

Echoing Brain Quest's lively design and unique silhouette, each workbook is a bright, kid-friendly invitation to delve into schoolwork with pleasure. The books are jam-packed with hundreds of curriculum-based activities, exercises, games, and challenges in every subject, but with a special emphasis on the core competencies of math and language skills. They're clear, they're interactive, colorful, and varied. Information is layered throughout the text. Kids will write, draw, solve, connect, add hands to the clocks' faces, and color in the fractional shapes. Six titles comprise the series, Pre-k through Grade 4; each is a substantial 320-page, full-color book. In addition, each title comes with a pull-out poster, more than 200 stickers, and 100 all-new Brain Quest questions and answers. Even the posters are keyed into the curriculumin second grade, children study the U.S. states, so the Grade 2 poster will be of the U.S.A., with all capitals, state flags, and state facts.

Mother Earth and Her Children: A Quilted Fairy Tale 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book is worth every penny for the close-ups of the quilt used in the illustrations. This is a very pleasant story of the earths renewal. Not too long and not too short, it should hold a young child's attention very well.

Editorial Review:

The incredibly intricate and vivid illustrations in this book are details of a modern quilt inspired by Sibylle von Olfers' classic storybook Mother Earth and Her Children. This vibrant new translation, in turn inspired by the quilt, explores the changing of the seasons and delicately touches upon the circle of life. When Mother Earth calls her children to prepare for spring, the earthly children yawn and stretch before they busy themselves with beautification. They dust off the bumblebees, scrub the beetles, paint bright new coats on the ladybugs, and rouse the caterpillars from their cocoons. Bedecked with new blossoms, the children emerge from the earth and become spring flowers that frolic through the summer and autumn, until the leaves begin to fall and they return to Mother Earth, bringing the weary bugs and beetles back to their winter refuge.
