I homeschool, and was concerned at the end of the year whether or not my kids were up to grade level. This booklet was great - it helped me identify any weak areas (thank goodness there weren't many). By the time my kids took the end of year test they were confident (so was I) and were able to breeze through without any nervousness or fear. I highly recommend this book regardless of where your kids are schooled...it will really help in the confidence area.

I bought this book to keep my child fresh on math during the summer. The work sheets were great. As this was a review of what she learned during the school year she didn't need direction. If you are looking for a book to teach math, this isn't it- but it was PERFECT for our needs.

This product is written in a very simple, clear cut form. There isn't a lot of fluff, which is great when you just want to learn the facts. It explains how to do the problems, then gives plenty of opportunity for practice. My 4th and 7th graders use these titles as their primary math resources.

Just what I wanted! It's a wonderful practice book that covers all the basics. Lots of repetition, which is what I felt my child needed to really get comfortable with operations. I'm using it to keep his skills from backsliding over the summer.

This book is standard to other books published by the same publisher. No Thrills but full of useful information for 3rd or 4th grade student. You won't buy the wrong book as it is clearly stated.

Do not let this small (134 page) workbook fool you. It packs a lot of content. The lay-out is simplistic with clear instructions and definitions on each page.Most 3rd graders can do this on their own.Basically, it is a lesson plan already done for you. There is no need to plan ahead or look up other information. This book guides you through the writing process. The content builds gradually, consistently and thoroughly,and is the foundation for upper level writing. It has 6 chapters that are already divided into lessons.It covers all writing from simple sentences, short paragraphs, friendly letters, compare and contrast, to narrative and descriptive writing and more. The basic lay-out is a lesson with a definition or information, an example of the how to use the new information, followed immediately with a practice area.
This book works with both slow learners and fast learners. It great!

This is a great book. It really does make math easy! It's worth the price. I got this for my children and it's a great math book. It is very easy for children to follow and learn. It came with gold star stickers my children love to get on their papers. This is a workbook for children.It has parental or teachers instructions page by page in the back of the book. The book starts with the number 1. It has pictures asking the child how many of the objects are their, at the bottom of the page it has "copy the pattern". Then they write the word One, match the number one with how many objects their are in a group, Then it proceeds on to the number 2 - 10. Then the book goes through various activities such as connect the dots using the numbers 1-10. The numbers 11 & 12 are on one workbook page, 13&14 and so on to 19 & 20. Then it goes to can you remember, More than activities, add one more, add 2 more, take 1 away etc teaching simple adding and subtraction. The book reviews shapes, thick and thin lines, tall, short, color, inside & outside, front and behind, beside, between, the same, different, sorting, find the missing numbers etc. One suggestion is to make copies for later lessons.

I am sixth grader who is really into math. I think that this book really helped me go ahead. This book did not only help me go ahead, but I also got into advanced math.I have told many of my friends about this book and they have found it helpful as well. I give this book five stars and a two thumbs up.

After quickly plowing through the 7th grade book, my 12-yr old has been learning the majority of his math via Spectrum Grade 8. Problems, problems, & more problems is the key to this book's effectiveness.

Spectrum Gr 8 steps up the complexity of the math problems in such a way that we're spending a lot more time with this book than with Spectrum 7. The 7th grade book was an *essential* stepping stone, and we used it from cover to cover, but we didn't bother doing all of the practice problems.

With the Grade 8 book, a good tactic seems to be to cover all the material once (using half or a third of the math problems provided in each section), & then moving back through the book a second time (or a third, or a fourth!), reinforcing lessons learned with the neverending supply of practice problems.

This repetition, spaced out over time (as opposed to covering a topic thoroughly but never revisiting it), is probably the best way to develop math skills that last a lifetime. Particularly if your kid isn't an overly exuberant math lover.

Love these math books!

I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!

My son was covering "bugs" in preschool, so I picked up this book. Knowing it was going to be really for older kids, I wasnt sure he was going to like it. These books are so well designed however that for 2 weeks now, he requests the "bug" book every night before bed. The only problem is that the pictures are so detailed and zoomed in that some of the images gives my wife and I the heebeegeevees.

The other great thing, is that this book will be a great book from him to grow into.

We are picking up more!

my son loved this workbook! it is a great teaching tool, where the child has fun while being intoduced to the basics he/she will learn in Kindergarten. Easy to follow directions and fun pictures make it a favorite "activity/coloring book" for any child entering kindergarten whether he has a desire to learn or not. I highly recommend this book to all parents.

School Zone does it again!

My kids grew up using School Zone workbooks, and now my grandkids are using them!

My 3 y.o. grandson didn't seem that interested in workbooks until he saw this one! Lots of colorful pictures, writing practice, number practice, and all kinds of fun adult-child activities (as well as things they can do on their own and with awseome success!)

These newer, large books by School Zone are the best workbooks for kids by far! Teh encourage learning, confidence, and with the bigger size, take the intimidation out of kids taking on "big" reading books later in life!

I used to review books for a homeschooling school locally for their curriculumn, and was a tutor as well. These books are by FAR the best I've seen for young kids! They are fun for the children, they develop life-long skills and confidence and take the frustration out of learning!

I'd recommend these for anyone with young children around, weather it be at home, grandma's house, at preschool, day care, kindergarten, somethig for the kids to do in the car, or even a doctor's office visit (EXCELLENT for kids who are ill and miss school as well!) or where ever!

If I were to pick one workbook for a pre-K or kindergarten child, this would be it!

Lots of color pictures (that lead to more learning through talking WITH a child, and not TO them!), as well as their basics they need in order to succeed.

An awesome supplement OR curriculum for a pre-K or K child!

I'd also suggest School Zone's other workbooks for older kids as well (especially the Phonics book for 2nd graders!)

Many kids can do these at a younger age and do, so these are great confidence-builders as well! (NOT that these are below grade-level, as they aren't, but they help the kids in other areas of their school work and help them to enjoy what might otherwise be frustrating or puzzling!)

These books are on my "must-have" list for children!

I love this series of trivia questions. As a teacher, though we try to have something constructive to do every moment of the day, sometimes (after a quiz or test that took a shorter amount of time than allowed for in the plan) there are a few moments to "fill" with something educational.

And of course, not every moment of every day has to be "book learnin'." Yet, it's nice if it still can be educational!

Word to the wise -- consider your audience. In my case I have 7th graders who are "challenged" in their daily studies. Some of the question in this version are MUCH too hard for them and will discourage them from thinking that this game is fun for us to play together.

Therefore, it migthht be a good idea to get the 6th grade version (or even 5th) so that the questions are easier and there are more successes when trying to answer (instead of blank stares).

Slow and delayed shipping. bought this book on June 28, almost two weeks ago and they just shipped it now July 8, 2006 after 10 days of paying. They said the estimate arrival book is on July 15-26.

The summer is almost over and my kid wont be needing this anymore.

Very happy -- my child's math book at school skips around, while only giving four or five problems for practice. This book logically develops concept after concept and provides ample practice. Highly recommended.
