Thorough review for the ACT 4 out of 5 stars.

The Practice tests are a little bit harder than the real ACT tests. The review material is very helpful, in-depth, and easy-to-understand. This book improved my score by 6 points. DONT buy this version with the CD because the software is horrible and the images on the practice tests are distorted.

Editorial Review:

Cracking the ACT brings you proven techniques from the test prep experts! The 2007 edition includes 2 full-length practice tests in the book and exclusive free access to further review online. In Cracking the ACT, we’ll teach you how to think like the test writers and

·Test your knowledge with review questions for each topic covered
·Ace the English Test by learning how to spot errors in sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation
·Turn complex algebra into simple arithmetic
·Score higher on reading comprehension and science reasoning problems by learning to zero in on main ideas, topic sentences, and key words
·Employ our preparation strategies to write a strong essay on the ACT Writing Test

Our practice questions are just like those you’ll see on the real ACT–but with detailed answers and explanations for every question.

Mediocre at best 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for the practice exams for practice before I take the SAT in May. Before this, I have used the official College Board blue book, as well as the Barron's book, and this book falls short compared to those two. The math was atypical of the level of difficulty seen in the other two books (as well as that of the real test, if the reports from friends can be believed), and the writing section had a considerable amount of error that can only be attributed to the ignorance of the book's testwriter. In my opinion, this book is a thoroughly unreliable test resource (I have not chanced a peek at the instructory segment, however). Caveat emptor.

4 out of 5 stars 4 out of 5 stars.

arco was the 2nd practice book that i've bought as my SAT prep book. i was satisfied with all of the sections except for some of the grammar parts in the writing section. otherwise, the math section really helped me bring my mark to 700 (i started out with 600) after i practiced all of the math questions. also, the critical reading passage sections are qiute similar to the ones found in the blue collegeboard book. the only problem is that i found some of the grammar questions to be more difficult than the collegeboard's.. nevertheless, they still helped prepare me for SAT.

Editorial Review:

Keep it simple stupid. That's what they taught me at college. Simplify the problem. Complicate the problem. Draw an obscure diagram. Simple advice but good advice.

But you don't believe you are stupid. You are angry that somebody called you stupid. You may be just the right person for this book. Because a smart man acknowledges that he really knows very little. Because he wants to read every book in the library. And there is so little time. So you are like that. You don't really need this book.

It is the guy who doesn't want to be called stupid that will need it. You will learn how smart kids think about college and the tricks they use. And the ones they don't. It is all about college in the 1980's before the Internet. Because study is something you can learn without complicating it by using a computer. Learn all the mistakes you could possibly make and how to avoid making them.
