Great pictures, exciting for babies and toddlers 4 out of 5 stars.

The Priddy books in this series are great. This one is nice because it not only has the great, bright, big pictures but also has different rescue professionals doing things with their cool helicopters, ambulances, etc.... The "action" shots seemed to really excite my daughter and her buddies. Stury board book, large for when they want a big bold book.

Perfect for any child obsessed with fire trucks 5 out of 5 stars.

This is "the" book for any toddler obsessed with fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. Thanks to this book, my kid can accurately identify any rescue vehicle from 100 yards - even the obscure ones.

Editorial Review:

-A big board book for children aged 3 and up.

-A great collection of fire engines, police cars, ambulances, lifeboats and many more.

-Simple questions encourage children to study the pictures.

-Huge, fold-out center spread.

Very Informative 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my nephew and he absolutely loves it! He learned why he shouldn't pick his scabs and wht can happen if he does.

Good, but not great 3 out of 5 stars.

Liked the other books of this genre, but this one misses the mark. Better for older kids than the 3 yr. olds.

Breaking Preschool Habits!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Thought I would be ahead of the game and got this book along with "The Holes in My Nose". Just wanted to be prepared for skinned knee season.

Love it! 5 out of 5 stars.

My kid is only 3, and she loves this book. When she gets a "boo-boo," she explains to me what's happening during the scabbing process. Wonderful!

Science made funny 4 out of 5 stars.

Considering this is part of the "My Body Science" series that also brings us "The Gas We Pass" and "Everyone Poops," you can expect more of the same gross-out humor and scatalogical references. ("Maybe a scab is...the poop of a sore!")

But if you can get past the poop talk, this book does a great job of giving a scientific insight into a topic that naturally fascinates kids.

Editorial Review:

A non-fiction look at how scabs form, and how one is to take care of them.

Went looking for it again! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book a long time ago for my little girl, then about 2 1/2. She loved putting the reusable stickers (like colorforms) on all the boo boos. Just recently she suddenly remembered it and went looking for it again! Had to search all over to find where it was buried...defintly worth every penny! Going to get another since some of the stickers are now missing of course!

It's okay 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Good for the price I suppose.

LOVED that the stickers are vinyl (don't recall reading that in the descript but I might have missed that). The pages are perfect for the stickers, just like the old school sticker books I had in the 80's and can't find any of LOL.

DD got bored with it though because all it does have are bandaids to put on the characters. Would have been nice to have other first aid items to use like bandages, maybe a picture of a cast, some ointment, etc to really explain how we get hurt and how we can fix it. But no, just bandaids here.

Editorial Review:

Ouch!

Because everyone gets boo-boos, here are tips on basic first aid and eighty-five vinyl stickers -- so you can take care of them yourself! Pleace these colorful bandages on the boo-booos or on any of the knees, elbows, fingers, or toes in this book that may need a little extra care!

Too much for younger kids, too simple for older kids. 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This was a pretty good book - I almost gave it 4 stars. The book has some useful info and the advice is sound (based on other 1st aid books I've read), so I don't think it would be a waste of anyone's money. The stated reading level is 9-12 but I felt it was a little too ambitious for most kids under 12 and too simple for kids over 12. I read this book to my 7 year old and most of it was over her head and had too many "steps". MY 12 year old also read it and she too thought there were too many "steps" in the instructions on what to do in an emergency. The sections in each chapter called "GET HELP!" were confusing to both kids. If you're looking for a Safety/1st Aid book for someone under 12 I would highly recommend "The Safety Book for Active Kids" (also sold by Amazon). If the reader is someone over 12 then a Red Cross First Aid Course and an adult first aid manual might be a better use of your money.

Here's the first comprehensive first-aid book written just for kids about what kids can do and when to get help!

American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Handbook 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

If I had to choose ONE book for a babysitter to carry with them to the job in their backpack, this would be the one! It is a great how-to book written for your teen who babysits in private homes for pay.

Here are a few of the great subjets covered (color-coded with Icons): Getting Off to the Right Start with Professional Behavior; Good Business Practices; Babysitter's Self-Assessment Tool; How to Prepare a Resume for Prospective Employers; Interviewing Parents or Guardians and Assessing the Job; Interviewing Tips; Household Rules and Discipline; Safety and Play; Basic Care (diapering, bottle feeding, spoon feeding, burping, bathing...); Telephone Safety Tips; Tips for Preventing Emergencies; Special Concerns (personal safety, suspected child abuse...); Self-Evaluation After the Job; Leadership in Babysitting; Ages and Stages of Infants Through Teens; Being a Good Communicator with Children; Helping Children to Behave; Correcting the Behavior Without Criticizing the Child... First Aid and Airway Management (simplified for the Babysitter); When to Call 911... and the list of topics goes on and on... all in 161 pages in a 6" x 9" plastic-coated paperback book!

There are other "how-to manuals" out there, but this one was compiled by the American Red Cross, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission; Boys and Girls Clubs of America; Boy Scouts of America; 4-H Clubs; Girl Scouts of America; JCC Association; and the YMCA. This is the latest edition, which includes simplified airway methods stipulated in the Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) 2000 Guidelines.

This is a great book for the money, and it's right on target with colors, pictures, icons, and indexes that are easy for teens to use in emergencies.

Editorial Review:

Sneezing! Stuffy! Ears a-pop!
And from your nose, a drippy-drop
Such green and slimy yucky glop!
Can anybody make it stop?

It’s one thing when a toy breaks—but what about when a part of you isn’t working right? This delightful, involving sequel to The Boo Boo Book cures children’s fears when they’re sick, and explains exactly what’s going on with their bodies. The rhyming text and colorfully-designed interactive pages are just so much fun that kids won’t focus on how bad they feel, but on why they’ll soon get better. They’ll lift a sheet of transparent pink plastic to cure pink eye; slide the mercury in a thermometer to take a temperature; and touch the embossed sneeze spray. From runny noses to rashes, earaches to stomachaches, a host of typical children’s ailments are all illustrated and described.

Editorial Review:

This delightfully illustrated board book opens up to show the interior of the house where this happy family lives. As kids turn the sturdy board pages, they discover household safety hazards and learn to avoid them. They learn to protect themselves in extreme cases, for instance, if their home ever catches fire, or if there is a gas explosion. This book emphasizes the importance of establishing escape routines, but keeps instruction light-hearted, in the spirit of the "little Fireman" depicted in the story. Kids learn to avoid burns at the kitchen stove, and discover that playing with matches is dangerous and must be avoided. They discover poison labels on household cleaning agents and learn to keep away from them. These and many other safety tips are presented to kids in ways they can easily understand. Parents and older children will also find first-aid advice and special tips for dealing with emergencies. (Ages 3-7)

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a book you can pick up when faced with the problem and make a decision. And it works for children and grown-up problems. A friend called me over to her house to help her decide if she needed to go to the hospital--she is 60--I am 55 ---she had fallen --we used this book to figure out what to do. We went to the hospital because she did have a broken bone. This is an easy to use reference and it is cute too!

Very easy to understand descriptions 5 out of 5 stars.

When a child actually does hurt themselves this book is easy to flip through and find what you need quickly. It gives you helpful suggestions on what to do and what warnings signs to look for that may indicate a trip to the ER or Dr's office.

Editorial Review:

The Children's Hospital at Stanford University is one of the most respected pediatric care facilities in the U.S. This 60-page book covers everything from head lice to stubbed toes, plus gives a great deal of time and thought to the average tummy ache. Packaged with the book, in a permanent zippered vinyl pouch, is a supply of People Patches (bandaids), guaranteed to take tears away. Full color.

Very superficial - better selections available. 2 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book would be better than having no first aid book or reference at all - but, not much better. Topics covered include: nose bleed, something in eye, bleeding, broken bones, dog and snake bite, poisoning, insect sting, chemical burn in eye, choking, electric shock, burns, unconsciousness, clothes on fire, and dialing 911. There is also a quiz in the back. The number of topics covered are OK, but the information is often incomplete. Three examples: 1) The section on bee stings omits any discussion on finding and removing the bee's stinger without accidentally getting more bee venom in the wound. 2) The section on dog bites omits any information on how to avoid getting bitten. 3) The section on broken bones has a grand total of 53 words of advice. In fact most sections of the book fail to mention ways to avoid injury, or methods of care that are included in other children's 1st aid books. Although this book is inexpensive - I feel it is not a good buy. For a little more money I highly recomend "The Safety Book for Active Kids", which is sold by Amazon.

Editorial Review:

This simple first aid book helps kids think wisely in an emergency. Well illustrated and easy to understand, it describes accident situations that children are likely to find themselves in. The paramedic/teacher author team provides step-by-step directions for handling such common problems as cuts, bloody noses, stings, electric shock and burns.

One of our most popular children’s books, "Kids to the Rescue!" opens with a note for parents, explaining how children can practice the first aid techniques. It concludes with a first aid quiz and instructions on calling 9-1-1 and other emergency numbers. The back cover has an index so kids can easily find the page of instructions they need.

Expanded and revised to cover HIV-safety.

Selected by SRA/McGraw-Hill for its fourth grade reading curriculum and praised in "School Library Journal," "The Horn Book," homeschooling and parenting publications.
