passing it on down 5 out of 5 stars.

This book did a perfect job for me when I was a boy. And I'm buying it to hand to my sons. Those who say it was too graphic are simply WAY too uptight. It is tasteful and honest. It did the job for me that my parents couldn't do.

Where Did I Come From 5 out of 5 stars.

When my children (now 34 &32) were beginning to ask the "questions" I purchased many books on the subject. This was by far the best. I have loaned my copies of "Where Did I Come From" and "What's Happening To Me" to many people across the area, and all have found them informative, helpful, and delightful. This one has disapeared from our home library, so I am replacing it now with a copy for my grandson, so that it will be here when he asks the "questions". A must have for all parents!

Every parent's dream 5 out of 5 stars.

Where did I come from? The question every child asks and every parent feels awkward in answering. Well, that problem is solved once you obtain this gem of a book with hilarious and accurate illustrations. It is just as wonderful now as it was in the 1970's when it was first published, and I read it to my children. Soon I will be reading it to my small grandchildren. Even parents love this book written by the now famous Peter Mayle. Snap it up while it is still in print!

to much info 1 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book to explain sex to my 10 year old daughter. I read it first then hide it fast! I didn't let my daughter read it. The book was good until it talked about masturbation. It says, "Touching and rubbing your genitals to feel good is called masturbation." This is not something I want her to know about yet. It also says 'sexual intercourse feels wonderful.' Well, I don't want her to know that either. (I don't want to lie to the girl!) So the hunt is back on for the perfect sex book.

Editorial Review:

"If you're having trouble talking to your children about sex--knowing what to say and when to say it--then here is the book for you. The talented team who created the acclaimed Dino Life Guides for Families is ready to help. With characteristic sensitivity, they present answers to tough questions. Here is an introduction to sex along with the ways girls and boys differ...and are the same. What's the Big Secret is the beginning of one of the most important conversations you and your child will have."

got my period so early?
doesn't even know the right way to kiss?
feels pressured to use drugs?
still hasn't hit puberty yet?
wants to avoid the gang scene?
worries when my mom doesn't come home at night?
is scared that I might have AIDS?
can't decide what form of birth control to use?
has no idea how to tell my friends I'm gay?
goes on eating binges?
has never had an orgasm?
is shut out of the popular crowd?

Editorial Review:

From the expert team behind IT'S PERFECTLY NORMAL and IT'S SO AMAZING! comes a book for younger children about their bodies — a resource that parents, teachers, librarians, health care providers, and clergy can use with ease and confidence.

Young children are curious about almost everything, especially their
bodies. And young children are not afraid to ask questions. What makes
me a girl? What makes me a boy? Why are some parts of girls' and boys'
bodies the same and why are some parts different? How was I made?
Where do babies come from? Is it true that a stork brings babies to
mommies and daddies?

IT'S NOT THE STORK! helps answer these endless and perfectly normal questions that preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary school children ask about how they began. Through lively, comfortable language and sensitive, engaging artwork, Robie H. Harris and Michael Emberley
address readers in a reassuring way, mindful of a child's healthy desire
for straightforward information. Two irresistible cartoon characters, a
curious bird and a squeamish bee, provide comic relief and give voice to
the full range of emotions and reactions children may experience while
learning about their amazing bodies. Vetted and approved by science,
health, and child development experts, the information is up-to-date,
age-appropriate, and scientifically accurate, and always aimed at helping
kids feel proud, knowledgeable, and comfortable about their own bodies,
about how they were born, and about the family they are part of.

Respectful 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This is my favorite book on the subject for ages 10 and up. This book gave just the right amount of details, so that the kids would know exactly what intercourse entails. However, it did not go into other issues, e.g. alternative lifestyles. Our family is Catholic, and I didn't wanted a book that would introduce ideas contrary to our beliefs for my children at the elementary school level.

Editorial Review:

With humour and sensitivity, Boys, Girls & Body Science provides no-nonsense answers for children - and parents - with questions about sex. Specifically designed for young readers, Boys, Girls & Body Science walks children through the wonders of their bodies in a direct, easy-to-read manner. The story begins with Nicholas, 7, and Jenny, 5, learning about different types of science in their class - from ecology to the digestive system. Then Meg Hickling, a guest speaker, comes to talk to them about a new type of science. Hickling talks about the "science names" for the children's body parts, about good and bad touches and about making babies. She coaches the children not to be embarrassed or shy about body science: "We are going to make this just like a science lesson, we will learn to think like a scientist and we will learn the scientific names for our private parts," she says.

I love this book, and now I'm getting it for my little sister. 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is a must. I bought it for myself when I was twelve. I am now 21 and purchasing it for my 13 year old sister. For mom's who don't want their kids to read it, I'm disappointed. The title says it all. Things you need to know, but obviously don't want to talk to mom about. I spent an hour in the bookstore reading all the different "growing up" books. Not one other came close.

Things this book has that no other did
1. Descriptions of different types, colors, and textures of blood that you may excrete. It tells you what is normal and when to go to mom because it's not normal.
2. An in depth drawing and description of a pelvic exam and the scary tools used. The best around. (yes this is necessary, both me and my sister are anemic and had full exams at the age of 12)
3. It tells you to get a mirror and look at yourself. SOOO important. Other books may say it's okay to do this, but this one flat out says DO IT. There is no need to be ashamed of your body.

Mom's who think it tells to much about sex, it doesn't. And WAKE UP! We live in a sexual world, girls are coming into contact with pressures much younger. It's now normal to be a teen mother, a new highschool was built by me that had it's own daycare. Girls need to know these things. And there is nothing out of line in this book. It has black and white sketches of male genitalia and I would much rather be prepared than terrified the first time I saw one.

Editorial Review:

The essential guidebook for every girl.

The Period Book is a reassuring must-read for every girl about to have her period, and every parent wishing to prepare a daughter for this important milestone. With more than 300,000 copies sold, The Period Book stands out from the pack by specifically addressing younger girls. And with eleven now the average age at which girls get their period, this supportive and practical approach, providing clear and sensitive answers to common questions, is evern more welcome today.

The revised edition includes a new introduction for parents and an additional chapter about body image.

Wow 5 out of 5 stars.

A a seventeen year old girl struggling to balance relationships and Christianity I found this book EXTREMELY helpful. Justin and Hayley are direct so if that isn't your style or you aren't ready for the truth then this book isn't for you. I have already bought a copy for my bestfriend and lent my copy to one of my other close friends and both of them loved it. I really liked that it is written for boys AND girls and found that they gave a lot of insight into a boys mind. No book is perfect and although I cant say I completely agreed with all their ideas I did find it to be a balanced take on how to be in a relationship as a Christian teenager. I would recomend it to anyone who is seeking the truth about relationships no matter their age!

Editorial Review:

Passion. It's the fuel for success, for dreams, for life. But too many teens focus their energy and passion on the wrong thing-the wrong person. Dateable pulls no punches in telling teens the truth about dating while also directing their passion toward a greater purpose in life. Teen relationships seldom last, the authors point out, so why should teens invest so much of themselves emotionally, physically, and spiritually? The answer? They shouldn't. Instead, they can protect their hearts, live with excitement, and enjoy relationships in a way that enhances rather than detracts from those they'll have in the future. With Justin and Hayley "telling it like it is," teens will learn how to be dateable and how to evaluate the dateability of their latest crush. And they'll get some much-needed perspective on sex, his/her communication, clothes, God-even "chick flicks." Dateable also includes sidebars, quizzes, callouts, and more.

Doesn't matter if you're 13 or 30 -- this book has something to say to YOU! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I first read this book on sexual purity as an eighth-grader. When I decided to reread it for a college class, I discovered its insights are equally valuable (if not more so!) to a twenty-year-old college student. As Dannah Gresh illustrates seven truths about sexual purity, she also shares personal stories - some celebratory, others shameful - which every adolescent female can relate to, whether she's been in a relationship or not. Gresh covers a lot in under 200 pages: she urges girls to seek healing in a close relationship with God, offers clothing advice, and explores the more-than-skin-deep definition of purity. Although Gresh's target audience appears to be teen girls, I think women in their twenties could benefit from it as well. The text is easy-to-read (always important when an author tackles such difficult subjects) and the message very moving. There are a lot of purity/love/dating books floating around, but this is my all-time favorite because of its practicality, straightforwardness, and thorough treatment of the subject matter.

Editorial Review:

'As a mother of two teenage daughters, I cannot think of any book more beautifully inspiring than And the Bride Wore White. My daughters love Dannah's insights, humor and her call for a life without regrets...I am deeply grateful for the realistic role model she is for my daughters...she has changed their lives and in doing so she has changed mine.' Tammy Maltby, author and co-host of Emmy nominated Aspiring Women.Dannah Gresh's And the Bride Wore White exposes our culture's lies about sex, and prepares young women and girls for the world's pressures. In this special edition there will be dozens of stories/personal testimonies of hurt and healing...first time salvations...confessions to parents that lead to accountability...and lots of wedding proposals, of course.

Editorial Review:

With such chapter headings as "Under the Hood," "Yielding the Right of Way: Consent," and "Avoiding Hazardous Conditions: STDs," Mavis Jukes's Guy Book offers friendly, accurate, and up-to-date advice for prepubescent and adolescent boys. Covering a range of topics, from masturbation to decoding girls' signals to making that earth-shattering choice between boxers and briefs, this wise collection of information and how-tos will appeal to the testosterone-ridden boy who would sooner die than ask his mom or one of his buddies about spontaneous erections or confusing emotions. On the other hand, Jukes encourages readers throughout to talk to friends and caring, responsible adults, and offers guy-appropriate lingo and tips to help facilitate tough situations. On breaking up with a girl: "Breaking up on a Saturday afternoon at your soon-to-be-ex's house (where support is available) would be better than springing it on a Monday morning at school." Humorous, ironic 50s-style illustrations feature pistons (accompanying male anatomy discussions), engines, and clean-cut boys and girls in big old cars.

Don't fret, girls! Jukes is also the author of It's a Girl Thing: How to Stay Healthy, Safe, and in Charge. (Ages 13 and older) --Emilie Coulter
