Fun Book, But Not What I'd Consider A Teaching Tool 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I really enjoy reading "Once Upon A Potty" to my kids. It's rather direct and features gender-specific illustrations of the "parts" for boys and girls. This particular book features the male anatomy of little Joshua. Joshua's story gives children the confidence to sit and wait for something to happen, even if it doesn't feel like something will occur.

I personally don't consider this book a good teaching tool for potty training. While it's a fun story and does get rather specific about body parts, it doesn't teach little boys how to stand when urinating. As others have stated, the illustrated potty is a "wee" bit outdated as well.

Still, kids will have fun with this book and I do mildly recommend it. Some parents might think that terms like wee-wee, poo-poo and pee-pee are too childish for their children, but I think they're just fine for the little ones.

Editorial Review:

The classic books on a timeless subject -- for a new generation.

In 1975, Alona Frankel wrote and illustrated her first book, especially for her son Michael, on how to use the potty. Thirty-two years later, Once Upon a Potty -- Boy and Once Upon a Potty -- Girl are the classic books on potty training and have sold more than four million copies worldwide. These children's books help parents everywhere deal successfully with an often vexing challenge for the whole family.

Thanks to their timeless words and beloved images, Once Upon a Potty -- Boy and Once Upon a Potty -- Girl are being discovered and used by a new generation of parents. These two books, with their phenomenal staying power, target and meet the needs of an obviously perpetual market.

doesnt look anything like a potty 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The pictures are cute but what is the point if the potty doesnt look anything like one, it is a pot with a handle! I have been reading it to my 21 month old daughter and I skip a lot of the pages. Might be ok for older kids but I am not very impressed with this book.

It really works !! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was an absolute God send ! After about a year we finally have no more stool witholding, potty dancing and agonizing screams when it is time for our little girl to poop. Thank God and the author of this book.
Our daughter could relate so well to Ryan that she wanted us to read the book over and over again and she started pooping without fear.
We do still use Milk of Magnesia every other day as a stool softer.
(Check with your childs Doctor before using any medicine)
Our pediatrician was not helpful at all with the functional constipation
and treated me like I was neurotic. It is heart breaking to watch your
child go through this and feel powerless to help. Buy the book you will
not regret it !!

Editorial Review:

Ryan is scared to use the potty. He's afraid to have a poop because he's afraid it's going to hurt. When Ryan's parents take him to visit Dr. Gold, she engages his imagination with the story of Bill the Coyote's messy house. She also shows him what happens inside the body, and explains how different foods make using the potty easy or hard. This story, along with Ryan's "poop program," will help young children gain the confidence they need to overcome this common problem and establish healthy habits.

GREAT!!! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My daughter and I loved this book. I just randomly bought it online, having no idea if we would like it. Then I went to the library to get other books on potty training. I must say this was one of our favorites!! And I got about 12 others from the library. It is well written!

A great potty book!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter always enjoys books made by "DK" because the pictures are real & have vivid colors. I feel she gets a better concept & more encouragement to use the potty when she sees the vivid pictures.
It has great step by step explanations, its simply & the illustrations are colorful enough to keep her engaged. She loves the star stickers with the book also. A nice addition would have been a potty chart to go with it but overall its a great book.

Editorial Review:

These colorful books use friendly images and rhyming text to encourage kids to develop good behavior patterns. As an added incentive, each title comes with a sheet of star stickers and a special reward chart. Each time kids meet one of the goals, a star goes on the chart!

These two engaging books take the worry out of toilet training by motivating boys and girls to get excited about using the potty.

I didn't like the DVD, the book is much better and I thought it was expensive for what was offered. My son who is 3 years old, didn't really like the DVD either.

Great video for boys 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great video for boys because it shows boys and using the potty. My 2 year-old son is very interested in watching it and will sit still for this short video. Good for beginning the potty training process.

Editorial Review:

Potty training can be agonizing, frustrating, elusive, and seemingly impossible. At last there's an honest, amusing book about the struggles and triumphs of toilet training.

Editorial Review:

Stimulating interest in children is key to potty training success. Positive reinforcement gives children pride and a sense of self-accomplishment. The third edition of this book has been completely revised with 126 glossy stickers to catch children s attention. Motivate and reward children using the 126 stickers. Stickers are circles of one inch in diameter and each sticker has an image of different potty related subjects - no repetition. You will find stickers with soap and towels (as reminders to wash hands), toilet rolls, a variety of potty chairs, cute motivational sayings like "You can do it!" and more. Many stickers even have toddler boys for children to imitate. The yellow chart included opens up to hang like a calendar. After successful potty attempts, children are rewarded with a sticker to place on the chart provided. Also included are a few ideas on what a parent or childcare provider could discuss about each sticker, thus increasing communication between adult and child. Potty training works when it's fun!

a big lap! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

this book is large! make sure you check out the dimensions. i just assumed it was intended for a little one's lap to read on the potty, but it's for an adult to read to the baby while in their lap.

It covers the long journey of potty training very well- trials and triumphs. very good description preparing your little one for the ultimate goal- using the potty exclusively.

my girl loves the i'm a big sister now book in this series, so she enjoyed this one immediately.

Fabulous for our daughter 5 out of 5 stars.

Our daughter is 27 months old and we have had the book for over a month.
She loves it and it has made her so much more aware than her older sibling.
Wish we had known about these books earlier. We will be ordering others in the series.
Thanks for offering these.

Editorial Review:

"What a big girl you are!"

Potty training can be fun. With warmth and sensitivity, Joanna Cole and Maxie Chambliss guide young girls though the challenges and rewards potty training—from the first steps to the joy of graduating to big girl underpants! A helpful "Note to parents" is included.

No! No! No! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Andrew's parents ask him frequently if he needs to "Pee." He always says, "No!" But, a few minutes later the answer is "Yes, right now!" We liked this book because of it's realism. It is a typical problem for moms and dads of preschoolers. This book has a similar twist to his other books. The ending is not expected.

Another great Munsch 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My son, who has just finished potty training, loves this book. He finds it humorous as do the grown ups that are reading it to him - which is great especially in this stage of repetitive book reading. We have a great time reading it together.

Cute and funny, but it's not a potty training book. 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Note:
When I first obtained this book I made the assumption that it was a potty training book, and I wrote the review below. Someone pointed out that this book doesn't necesarily advertise itself as a potty training book. It's just a funny story. OK, that's fair. I can't change the stars but I do see the point. I suppose if I saw it just as a funny book for children I'd give it more stars.

-------------------------------------------------

This is not a book that actually teaches anything about using the potty. This is a funny book about a little boy who is repeatedly asked if he needs to go potty and says "no no no" but later has to "go" in the most inconvenient of circumstances. We've all been there, haven't we parents?

But this book doesn't train at all. If you want a funny book to share with a little boy who needs potty training, you may like this, but if you want a book that will help instruct a child, look elsewhere.

Editorial Review:

Andrew's mother and father always ask very clearly if Andrew needs to go pee, and his answer is always, "No, no, no, no." Unfortunately, that answer never seems to last long!

"This is an attractive, well-designed, sturdy package..."

good but not very special 3 out of 5 stars.

We like the Mercer Mayer books but this one was a little dull. My daughter much prefers the Sesame St potty traing book with Ernie... I think it is called Too Big For Diapers.

Good for getting ready to potty train 4 out of 5 stars.

My two year old son enjoyed reading this book, it has kept his attention. It has helped him learn about potty basics. He gets the concept but still isn't that ready to be a willing participant in the potty process. It is a fun book for us to read together.

potty training books for kids 5 out of 5 stars.

If you like the Little Critter series and you are currently potty training then this is the book for you. As usual Mercer Mayer deals with a subject in a humorous and fun way that kids will enjoy.

Great book for a toddler 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 2 1/2 year old loves these books by Mercer Mayer. Her first book was the I Was So Mad (Look-Look) book and we had to read it every night and she slept with it. I bought this book and several others by Mercer Mayer and she loves them just as much. They are nice because they are affordable and in paperback which makes them easy to bring along on trips. They also all seem to have simple, fun, and easy to understand messages for a toddler and they touch upon the different feelings and experiences a toddler is going through. She also loves the The New Baby book which was great for when her little sister joined the family.

Editorial Review:

Little Critter sure knows how to be a good big brother! He even helps his little sister learn how to use the new potty.
