My poor wife 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I've gotten to checking out the books in this series from the local library first and seeing if they stick before buying them. This one's fairly new, however, and they don't have it yet, but timing was an issue. We're in the midst of potty-training and I got it so we would have some entertainment while waiting for *something* to happen (if you know what I mean, and if you're a parent in a similar situation, I think you do).

Didn't take long before the songs became part of our regular repertoire. My poor wife now has to sit through two males belting out songs about pooping on the neighbor's stoop, etc. Good thing she has a sense of humor.

One thing the songs do is turn light-hearted something that is stressful for children of that age, but I imagine it depends much on their sense of humor. If your child likes the other Katz/Catrow books, odds are they'll like this one too.

Editorial Review:

From the hilarious and kid-pleasing team who brought us Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly Songs and Are You Quite Polite?: Silly Dilly Manners Songs comes this selection of songs guaranteed to make potty training everywhere into the easiest and most enjoyable event in a child's life -- ever!

Washing their hands of the old words to familiar tunes such as "If You're Happy and You Know It" and "London Bridge Is Falling Down," Alan Katz and David Catrow combine their exceptional talents to offer kids and their parents songs to sing with pride -- as well as a valuable way to encourage youngsters as they discover the joys of trading in their diapers for the royal throne: the potty-chair!

Editorial Review:

Clang! Clang! Clang! The fire truck is pulling out of the station. But wait! Where is the firefighter going? To the potty! Even firefighters go to the potty!

Toddlers are uneasy about toilet training. And in most cases, even if they know they have to go, sometimes they are too busy to bother. In this hilarious gate-fold story, each person--from a firefighter on the way to answer a fire alarm to a zoo keeper on the way to feed the polar bears--stops what they are doing to go to the potty. With humor and no pedantics, toddlers learn that everybody uses the potty.

This book is a bad influence 1 out of 5 stars.
18 of 21 people found this review helpful.

My daughter loves this book, but I hate it. It shows pictures of a little girl standing in a potty, and with a potty on her head. The accompanying text says that this is not what you do, but the pictures are compelling. AFter reading this book, my daughter started standing in the potty, saying "no, no, no!" I think the book would be a lot better if it only showed positive pictures.

Editorial Review:

Are you ready? It's potty time. DK has just what you need to introduce the concept to your little one. Here are two new his and hers photographic potty books perfect for toddlers. My Potty Book For Girls and My Potty Book For Boys demystifies the often strange world of toilet training with ease. These step-by-step books start with the "novice" who is still in diapers and progress to the successful child who is gaining control of the situation. Toddlers are encouraged to "Take a seat" with a gentle "Take your time, there's no need to rush" approach. Photographs of real children will capture any child's attention and help develop confidence. At the end of My Potty Book parents will confidently exclaim, "Hooray! You did it!"

Can help you, talking to your child about soiling problems 3 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

We have read through this book and find that it can be useful as an aid to opening discussions with your child about encopresis. Having said that, we feel that it is aimed at a very low age group, who may have difficulties with reading in the first instance. The one problem we have is that our encopretic children are above the elementary reading level and therefore got bored and distracted very easily.

One situation that arises with encopresis is that children tend to feel very alone and afraid, because of the amount of pressure heaped on to them at an important stage in their development. This book goes some way to addressing those feelings, but if you are considering it for a child over 5-6 years of age (which is of course the very age where encopresis is causing its biggest headaches) then maybe have the book on a side stand somewhere, and try to talk to your child on a more personal level.

Editorial Review:

Andrew's father died when he was a baby, his mother is away all day at work, and now his beloved grandfather must go to the hospital. Upset and worried, Andrew begins to soil. With a visit to the pediatrician and to a therapist, Andrew gets the treatments he needs to feel better and start using the toilet again. This book contains a Note to Parents by psychologist Virginia Shiller, PhD, on the topic of soiling (encopresis), its causes, and its treatment.

Is it a cup or a potty? 3 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

My 21-month-old daughter seems to like the story and that it is a princess learning to use the potty (since she is too), but the potty doesn't look like a potty. She thinks its a cup. Now she wants to take my coffee up to the potty and use it.

Both my children & I love this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The illustrations are nice. There are only a few words on each page, so it is a quick read. The little princess is really trying, but sometimes you just can't make it to the potty in time & that's okay.

Shows HUMILIATION 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book thinking it would be helpful. The princess theme was a good one. But, I am SO GLAD I READ this book BEFORE I gave it to my little one. While it does show the little princess asking for her potty (a good message), it does not show encouragement or making the child feel better after her "accident". It has the poor child standing in a puddle, redfaced, emabrrassed, and with sad eyes. It shows the humiliation a child may feel if it doesn't get to the potty in time. And, may, make her afraid to go without the diaper for fear of not getting there in time. I was appalled. So much that I will not even donate this book or give it away. It is going into the trash.

Editorial Review:

"Diapers anre YUUEUCH!" said the little princess. "There must be something better!"
Tony Ross's hilarious account of the royal potty will amuse young children and help their parents.

A fun story for your toddler! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my son 4 years ago. I fell in love with it and have bought it for each neice and nephew for Christmas ever since. It has great rhyming text and adorable illustrations. Tomie is a wonderful author/illustrator, and this is a fun addition to any collection. We like looking for the cat and dog on each page while we read, and now my son (preschool) likes to finish the rhymes, too. Very catchy, funny story!

Editorial Review:

Pants, boots, mittens, and cap…Christmas Eve is here, and Santa is dressed and ready to go. But just as he heads to his sleigh—uh oh!—Santa finds himself in a predicament that any little kid knows well: He needs to make a pit stop! With foil on every spread and Tomie dePaola’s beloved illustrations, this Christmas classic is "dressed up" just in time for a spot underneath the Christmas tree.

My infant loves this book! And it makes her daddy and I snicker, too - it is very cute. And the jigsaw baby on the ribbon is a very nice touch.

Didn't impress me 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought four books about potty training and this was the worst! Made no sense (must admit I am no child psychologist) and my child remembers and understands the other three books and wants to read them over and over again unlike this one. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Editorial Review:

Twenty-seven humorous vignettes are cleverly captioned illustrations designed to help parents and kids cope with the challenges of toilet training. Toddlers will laugh when they see Mark picking out a potty at the toy store. And back at home, Toby didn't quite make it to the potty this time. He'll have better luck next time. Jordon waits till the last minute too-but hooray! We see him in the bathroom, and we know he made it on time. Alison is proud because she uses a grown-up toilet, and Amanda reads a picture book when she sits on her potty. Neither parents nor children need to take potty training too seriously, because sooner or later, everything works out just fine. That's the message at the heart of Bob McGrath's cheerful book-and boys and girls will enjoy seeing their own potty experiences repeated on these pages.

An okay book, but not great. 2 out of 5 stars.
23 of 23 people found this review helpful.

My son does love this book, but as far as its purpose goes, it falls far short of expectations. There is almost no focus on the purpose of a potty at all. I had hoped that the photographs would be helpful, but they are very cute, posed, and lack the body parts involved in the actual process of using the toilet. There is only one page that even mentions the prohibited bodily functions. I don't enjoy the choice of wording, and it feels like a cheap attempt by a publishing company to get a book out of as few pictures and words as possible. Inexpensive to make, yes, but helpful to toilet-training parents? An emphatic no.
