Not that great 2 out of 5 stars.

I bought this based on the above reviews but I found it's not that great if you don't watch TV and know these characters. My two year old who was just starting with potty training was very bored with the book. It seems to go on and on. Perhaps it is for older kids than my two year old.

A Very Effective Book for Toilet Training 5 out of 5 stars.

Both of my children love seeing the familiar characters from "Bear In The Big Blue House" in book form, but I believe this book works as well for kids who don't watch the show. The gentle way Bear, along with Luna, the Moon, deals with everyone's fears and anxieties on this subject seems to speak to the heart of children's fears about making this transition. This book was a great help in finally training my 3 1/2- year old who had developed a mental block on the entire subject. It gently reassures and addresses exactly the right things. We've seen the toilet training episode several times, and they love it, but the book gives you the option of taking it into the bathroom and reading it while your future toileteer is trying to make the leap from diapers to big kid. I would also read it to them before we started in the morning as well. My kids asked for this book over and over again, and it's still a favorite. Kids will love this book even after they are fully trained. In addition to being a very useful tool, it is highly entertaining. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Editorial Review:

Listen to your body when it's time to use the potty! When Tutter, Ojo, and Treelo have questions about going to the bathroom, Bear provides the reassuring answers and guidance that they -- and readers -- need to hear. Pip and Pop also have a great idea that will delight Bear fans who are just starting to use the potty!

Fun and perhaps effective, but not terribly educational 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I have twin twenty-five month old daughters, and they both love this book. They "read" it while they sit on their potty. About two weeks ago I introduced this book, along with the Sesame Street book "Too Big for Diapers," featuring Ernie, and two DVDs ("Potty Power" and "No More Diapers"), and in the span of four days, both girls have gone from diapers to panties. Today (day four) one had one accident-- and it was a "number two," which of course is harder to learn-- and the other had two "number ones," so we're far from finished with potty training, but I credit books such as this one with our overall success. I don't know that what they have learned will stick for life, but I am so incredibly pleased (and proud!!).

As for the book itself, it is rather basic, focusing on how great it feels to be dry, how mommy and daddy are dry, and how we get to brag on toddlers who can stay dry. Nothing is said about wiping (and the proper way to do it) or about handwashing, but these are tasks that can be taught either through other media or by the parent. I know my girls both consider wiping and handwashing (and flushing the big potty after I empty theirs) to be the ultimate reward for successfully using the potty (and not just trying... that would result in repeated trips to the bathroom with minimal effort to actually go!). To the book's credit, it does not show kids doing absolutely inappropriate things with their potty, such as putting it on their heads; it also does not show a kid with half of a roll of toilet paper unwound. Both of those demonstrations are absolute no-gos in my book regarding the purchase of any potty training medium.

Editorial Review:

Editorial Review:

The Potty Book —consisting of a “Henry” version for little boys, and a “Hannah” version for little girls—has been a very popular seller, as well as a godsend to moms and dads, ever since Barron’s first published it a few seasons ago. Now, the humorous potty-training stories of Hannah and Henry are being reintroduced in a pair of DVDs that kids can watch on their TV. Parents of little boys will want this, the “Henry” version. Henry needs to have his diaper changed before he can go out and play. But Mom and Dad have just brought home a big package, and he’s anxious to see what’s inside. Is it a rocking chair? Or maybe a bed for Teddy bear? No, it’s a potty! It’s time for Henry to graduate from his diapers and learn how to use the potty. A bonus feature on the DVDs is the song “Bye-Bye, Diapers.” Toddlers will want to sing along with it as they watch the movie. This combination package pairs the DVD with the original picture book and a miniature Henry Potty Doll. Henry has his own miniature potty, so little boys can use the doll to dramatize the story as part of their own potty training.

A fun story for your toddler! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my son 4 years ago. I fell in love with it and have bought it for each neice and nephew for Christmas ever since. It has great rhyming text and adorable illustrations. Tomie is a wonderful author/illustrator, and this is a fun addition to any collection. We like looking for the cat and dog on each page while we read, and now my son (preschool) likes to finish the rhymes, too. Very catchy, funny story!

Editorial Review:

Pants, boots, mittens, and cap…Christmas Eve is here, and Santa is dressed and ready to go. But just as he heads to his sleigh—uh oh!—Santa finds himself in a predicament that any little kid knows well: He needs to make a pit stop! With foil on every spread and Tomie dePaola’s beloved illustrations, this Christmas classic is "dressed up" just in time for a spot underneath the Christmas tree.

An excellent introduction to the potty 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This has been an excellent book in introducing my daughter to her potty. Although we had a potty set up for her, she only showed vague interest in it until we received this book. She enjoys the flip flaps (there are several to explore on each page.) It's a fun book to read together while your child explores their new potty, even if you're not ready to begin potty training. I recommend getting this book early, especially if your intention is to begin with a child size potty. There is a reward page with stickers that works well as your child gains experience.

Editorial Review:

Little Bunny has a brand-new purple potty! Kids will love lifting fun flaps to help Little Bunny with each step of using the potty, then delight in picking out their favorite reward stickers for giving it a try themselves! There are also stickers for extra toilet paper and -- what else? -- big kids' pants!

Lisa McCue's adorable fuzzy characters and wonderful, childlike text make this book a warm and welcome introduction to using the potty.

Humorous and catchy 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 22 month old son loves this book. He thinks it's hilarious. I think it's hilarious to see other people's reactions when we read it! If you feel as I do, that it's best to talk to your children about their bodies and bodily functions as well as those of other animals, this is the book for you. It is, however, not the wordiest of books, which is unfortunate. A good "THIS is the last book" (when you've already read 10) bedtime book.

Editorial Review:

This picture book's little boy visits the zoo, where he learns that "Giraffes doo-doo from way up high," and "monkeys doo-doo right in front of you!" But our cheerful little boy is different from the zoo animals, because he has learned how to sit on the toilet. Parents who share this humorous picture book with their child will discover that it's a pleasant and positive way to introduce them to toilet training. The color illustrations on every page will make boys and girls laugh as they begin to comprehend the story's point. The book concludes with confidence-boosting tips that parents and toddlers can read together. (Ages 2-4)

Specifically written to help young children to overcome the problem of bed wetting 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Enhanced with the delightful illustrations by Marcy Ramsey and now in its second edition, Sammy The Elephant & Mr. Camel is the collaboratively written picturebook story by Jayce C. Mills and Richard J. Crowley specifically written to help young children to overcome the problem of bed wetting. In the allegorical story, a young elephant named Sammy has difficulty holding and carrying buckets of water. Mr. Camel offers him guidance: "You just have to trust you can do it. Some things take a little more time to learn than others, Sammy. And you have time to learn that now." As Sammy grows and practices, he learns new abilities that he can put to good use when a fire breaks out and he has to carry and hold water, then use it at just the right spot to put the fire out. The final pages of Sammy The Elephant & Mr. Camel offer detailed information for parents, by children's author and psychologist Jane Annunziata, Psy.D., about when to recognize urinary incontinence as a problem in children, and what can be done about it, including the importance of first ruling out infections or similar problems. Very highly recommended.

Editorial Review:

Sammy the Elephant is reintroduced to his own inner strengths and abilities through the guidance of Mr. Camel. After Sammy goes through a learning period during which he discovers many things he can do well, there is a crisis-- a fire near the circus -- and a resolution, as Sammy saves the day. Sammy emerges from his experiences with a new sense of self-appreciation. The story does not overtly deal with bedwetting and incontinence issues. A "Note to Parents" section includes educational information about bed wetting -- normal development vs. problem, talking to pediatrician or mental health professional, parent skills to cope with bedwetting and more.

Too short. 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

If your plan is for you and your child to read this book while sitting on the potty, waiting for the magic to happen, a page or two more would be nice. But as it is, it's colorful and captured our son's attention. (He just pointed at the thumbnail on this page and said, "There he is. Monkey potty.")

Short but sweet 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is a little short and my daughter wants us to read it a few times before she is content that what is there is all there is. A good message for the new potty baby.

Not worth buying!! 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is not worth buying. It is only about 6 pages long and has barely a sentence on each page. You can be done reading it to your child in about 30 seconds even if you read it very slowly.

Editorial Review:

Monkey Learns to Potty is a 10-page quality children’s board book with beautiful art work, illustrations and a story about Potty Monkey’. Potty Monkey’ has new underwear, a potty chair and becomes potty trained via a charming Monkey See, Monkey Do technique. The book is an eyecatcher, especially with the mirror inside that makes the child reader feel like he is part of the story.

Editorial Review:

Innovative new edition of a classic, now with an audio CD

In 1975 Alona Frankel wrote and illustrated her first book, especially for her son Michael, on how to use the potty. Once Upon a Potty, Boy and Once Upon a Potty, Girl are now classics on potty training and have sold more than four million copies worldwide. Thanks to timeless advice and beloved images, these children's books offer superb counsel for a new generation of parents on a universal topic: how to deal successfully with a too-often vexing challenge for the whole family.

This new, sturdy board book edition also includes an audio CD featuring the reading of the classic story, plus songs and sing-alongs. Alona Frankel herself introduces each track.
