Great book for the car! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

After reading many reviews on here, I bought this book wondering what I'd get. It seems that most reviews here are either very strongly liking this book or very strongly not liking it (it's a kid's book for gosh sakes!)

Anyway, my son loves this book! It's the perfect size to hand him in the car or leaf through and talk about at a restaurant while waiting for food. The book is silly and fun- so please lighten up if you're not sure what a "corn car" is or whatever. Richard Scarry wasn't afraid to use his imagination, and was a lot of fun as a result.

It's an inexpensive book that takes a few minutes to flip through. Golden, in my eyes!

tiny truck book 5 out of 5 stars.

the perfect size for dropping in your purse for keeping a little boy entertained...my son loves the big richard scarry 'cars and trucks and things that go' which is too big to take along, so this is great for portability.

Editorial Review:

Illustrated in full color. This car-and- truck-filled alphabet extravaganza

that starts with an ambulance and ends with a zippercar, is shaped like Lowly

Worm's applemobile.

Wonderful book. Lots to look at and discuss. My son cannot get enough of this book. It has been his favorite for at least three months so far! We wore out a yard sale copy and bought a new one! It is a great distraction in the car and at restaurants. Excellent at bedtime. Richard Scarry is great.

My grandson loves the book. He's into trucks, etc., and the abundance and variety of moving vehicles is fascinating to him.

My daughter loves The Goldbug Hunt 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 2-year old daughter *loves* this book, especially finding Goldbug. Although now she's done it so many times, she remembers where he is on each page, so even though it's still fun for her, it's lost a little of the mystery. Can anyone recommend any similar proto-'where's waldo'-type books for toddlers?

Editorial Review:

The Pig family takes a road trip to the beach for a picnic. The road is packed with hundreds of cars and trucks, vans and motorcycles, tractors and buses. The Pigs find chaos and adventure on the way to the beach and the opportunity to see vehicles they have never seen before. It's an exciting day!

Lives up to the hype! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I read all the reviews before I ordered this book and it sounded great. However, when I first took it out of the box I thought I must have ordered the wrong book - could this little book be the one everyone on Amazon raved about? The answer is - YES! My 14 month old son loves it when we read (correction: sing) this book to him and asks us to do so over and over. The illustrations are full of little details that he loves to study and point out: apples rolling on the floor of the bus, dog licking the driver's face, etc. A wonderful little book!

Awesome book for Toddlers 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book based on the other reviews I read and they were right. My (almost) 2 year old girl loves this book and asks for it to be read over and over at bedtime. Definitley her favorite book so far!
Highly recommend it.

Editorial Review:

All aboard the school bus for this fantastic sing-along story. Lights illuminate in sequence on the front cover to emphasis the wheels turning. Children can sing along with the tune while spotting the characters and exploring the scenes on each spread. With bold, colorful illustrations, this classic favorite is sure to be a hit with little ones everywhere!

I love this book - it's a fun, quick read and I love the author's sense of humor. My daughter is 2 1/2 and is a little luke-warm on the book, but I love it.

a fun and light read! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

my 19 month old still loves this book.. at around 13 months he would come to me with the book and tell me 'mom MOOO' ... then we'd read the book together, he loves the animals and the words are so easy to memorise so even though we read it a million times (cuz he loves it that much) i can do other things while still reading him the story by heart as he turns each page.
Also , because it is a nice light read I don't mind reading it over and over again as young children seem to constantly want! :)

Fond memories 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm now an adult and have very fond memories of this book (as well as Boynton's other books). My parents read this to me as an infant and I loved it. I will take great pleasure in sharing her books with my own children when I have them.

Editorial Review:

Children will love joining in and imitating the animal noises and sounds in this big, bold board book format, illustrated with Sandra Boynton's seriously silly signature animals.

Fun introduction to things that go VROOOOM!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

From the time my son first learned to talk, he has shown a fierce curiosity about what things are called, especially the things he sees when we are driving around. I was so pleased with Priddy's My Big Animal Book (Priddy Bicknell Big Ideas for Little People) that I picked up My Big Truck Book to help him identify various vehicles as well as to build his growing vocabulary. The book was a tremendous success on both levels.

The book features large, sturdy pages that catalog a variety of farm, construction, rescue, and other vehicles. The photos are large and colorful, and never fail to capture my son's attention. Between this book and My Big Animal Book, my son's vocabulary and understanding of the world around him increased by leaps and bounds. I still remember the first time we drove by a construction site and I heard him shouting "Backhoe! Mini excavator! Dump truck!" The book also allowed us to use his curiosity about vehicles and fascination with the pictures to teach him about the vehicles' functions, colors, and sizes.

My son is two years old now and more interested in storybooks, plus he knows the vehicles in this book front to back. That doesn't keep him from taking this book off the shelf time after time just to enjoy seeing his favorite trucks, tractor, and construction equipment.

I highly recommend this durable, colorful, and inexpensive book to all parents of curious toddlers. As teaching aids go, My Big Truck Book has proven far more effective than many a high-priced electronic gadget or DVD.

Editorial Review:

-Ideal for babies and toddlers.

-Stunning large format brings images to life.

-Helps to build a child's vocabulary.

Great Classic Tale 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Love it. My kids love it. We first saw this book in a larger version at our pediatrician's office and we read it while waiting to be seen. My daughter loved it so much that I looked it up as soon as we returned home. The story is so well known, I won't even bother to rehash it. Even though I think I can... (A little humor there)

As usual, the visual component is very important as far as I'm concerned and the vintage art is fabulous. It reminds me of things I saw while cleaning up my grandparents' house. Left behind story books and toys from my mother and her sister. Very nostalgic.

This particular version of the book is quite small which I like, but my daughter wants a larger version. I believe it is available in a lager size here at Amazon.

Great, classic story! Good for negative children who are always saying "I can't." 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The story itself is great-- I like sharing its meaning with the little "I can't do it" children who are in my life. Children seem to like the pictures in this book. However, the quality of the binding is not as great as I hoped it would be-- it's already starting to pull apart after just several readings.

Editorial Review:

"A good example of pioneer feminist lore, with girl engine as 'hero'".--Publishers Weekly. The classic story of optimistic thinking that has delighted generations of children. Full-color illustrations.

Our boy already loved Tugga-Tugga Tugboat and My Truck is Stuck, so I had an idea that he would like this book by the same author/illustrator combo, especially because he likes trains.

Well, this was his favorite of the three. The drawings are charming, the story sufficiently uncomplicated for a nearly-three-year-old, and he wanted us to read nothing else for weeks. Highly recommended.

My children's favorite book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This simple, rhyming book about a toy train has been read and re-read in this house. My girls absolutely MUST hear this book at least five times a day. We're on our third copy, as the first two were destroyed from overuse. My only criticism is that the book is not of more sturdy construction. If you have toddlers and pre-school age children, this book is a must have!

Great bedtime book for train lovers! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2 year old son loves this book. He's loved it since he was about 9 months old. It's rhyming and fun to read out loud with bright and interesting illustrations. Sure to be a hit for any boy who loves trains!

Editorial Review:

A rhyming story about a toy freight train's day, from loading freight in the morning to retiring to the roundhouse after the day's work is done.

Rutgers University Project on Economics and Children 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Inhabitants of Marveltown have used their extroaordinary creativity and engineering skills to develop their town into a futuristic place with the biggest, most enjoyable, and most efficient contraptions imaginable. People could drive through a special carwash at 80 miles per hour, fish from atop a mile-high tower, and turn a large area of farmland into a winter playground at the flip of a switch. The clever children learned quickly from their parents' ability to innovate, and free access to the supplies in the "Invent-o-Drome" gave the kids unrivaled opportunities to produce their own marvelous inventions.

When the parents built enormous electro-hydraulic robots to take over construction of the new airborne highway, they did not realize that a small electrical mishap could turn the robots into an army of menacing monsters. Can the children save Marveltown from destruction?

Bruce McCall tells a fascinating story that is centered around some important ideas in economics related to innovation and production. Namely, Marveltown's various inventions have allowed the residents to do things better and faster, enjoy new activities not imagined before, and improve their well-being. This lesson is woven into an action-packed account with intriguing illustrations. Hold onto your hats and go for an incredible ride into Marveltown.

Editorial Review:

What’s it like growing up in a town founded by inventors? On Saturdays, the adults open the doors of the Invent-o-Drome and give local children free rein to create whatever gadgets they can think up. Hypno-Goggles, a Rocket Chair, a homeworkeating robo-dog – the can-do kids of Marveltown are never at a loss for ideas. But when an unfortunate short circuit causes a group of giant robot workers to go berserk – and the adults flee for their lives – are the kids ready to put their know-how to the test?    In his first book for children, veteran illustrator Bruce McCall has crafted a tale of ingenuity and mayhem with pictures that pop with retro charm and crackerjack wit.

My Big Train Book 4 out of 5 stars.

As a retired elementary teacher, I value literacy experiences for young children. I purchased this book for my grandson's third birthday. He already had "My Big Truck Book" and loves it, it is one of his favorites. He has well over 100 at the present time, but turns again and again to this one. "My Big Train Book" is fast becoming another favorite. The bright pictures are great. I would recommend either or both these books.

Nate absolutely loves this Train book 5 out of 5 stars.

My son Nathaniel who is 3 years old absolutely loves this train book. I bought it along with All about Train DVD. He loves to point to the trains in the book while he spots them on the DVD. Nathaniel takes this book everywhere he goes. He also has My big Truck book which is by the same author. Very good books I recommend them. I will eventually buy the whole collection.

-Ideal for babies and toddlers.

-Stuffing large format brings images to life.

-Essential for all tiny train enthusiasts.

I remember reading this one as a child :) 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

So of course it thrills my heart that my two nieces (2.5 and 5) like it too.

This book is really an early reader, it's not *intended* for children under that age, though of course it can function as a read-aloud for little-little ones. (Not always - my younger niece won't always sit through this one, it's a bit long!)

There are two running plots in the book, one about hats, and one about where the dogs are all ultimately going; these two plots meet marvelously at the end of the book. (For *months*, I couldn't go a day without having to re-enact "Do you like my hat? I do, I like that hat, what a party hat!" with the older niece!)

Most of the book, however, is caught up with just basic vocabulary words, mostly about dogs - "One dog going in, three dogs going out" or "The sun is up, the sun is yellow, the yellow sun is over the house".

This can be a little tedious, but I the kids don't seem to think so - even at their fidgiest, they want me to say every word.

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. Many kinds of dogs in a variety of fun-filled activities.
