Great for the reluctant reader 5 out of 5 stars.

My 10 year old daughter is a straight "A" student but gets bored to death while reading. I've been struggling to get her to read enough to fulfill her NYS reading requirement of 25 books by the end of the school year. I bought her this book for Christmas, not even realizing it was a "graphic novel". I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that she happily read it in just 2 days. Now the struggle will be to find more of these graphic novels to hold her interest until she's hooked enough to read more traditional versions.

Editorial Review:

In this new graphic novel edition of the very first BABY-SITTERS CLUB book, Raina Telgemeier captures all the drama of the original in warm, spunky illustrations. Witness Kristy's eureka moment, when she gets the idea for a "baby-sitters club" and enlists her best friends, shy Mary Anne and artistic Claudia, in an exciting new venture. But the baby-sitting business isn't the only thing absorbing their attention: Kristy is having a hard time accepting her stepdad-to-be, and the newest member of the gang, Stacey, seems to be hiding a secret.

I am very dissapointed at this book. It seems like this is a 4 year old book. But don't worry i am going to order more Baby Sitters Club this time with mysteries! I am really sad at this book=(

WRONG TITLE!! 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Don't judge a book by it's cover - or it's title! The title "DAWN AND THE IMPOSSIBLE THREE" gives you an idea tht the Barrett kids are a real problem, but don't be fooled! The book should be called "DAWN AND IMPOSSIBLE MRS. BARRETT". She never gives Dawn baby-sitting instructions, leaves the wrong phone numbers and leaves the house a wreck, making Dawn feel that it's her responsibility to clean up! Her disorganization leaves Dawn in a mess when Buddy Barrett is kidnapped by his father. (He is returned in the end.) I am happy, though, that Dawn got everything straightened out in the end with Impossible Mrs. Barrett!

Dawn and the Impossible Three 5 out of 5 stars.

Make that the Impossible Four. The Barrett kids are a lot to handle, but they're out of control because their mother doesn't TAKE control, making Mrs. Barrett the most impossible of all.

This is Dawn's first book. She finds herself trying to make nice with Kristy, who's unhappy with the idea of moving across town when her mother gets remarried. Dawn understands and works hard to overcome Kristy's jealousy over Mary Anne and Dawn's new friendship. That's part of the reason she takes on the Barretts as new clients. She never expected them to become the challenge they turn out to be. How things work out - and they always do - is something you'll have to read the book to find out!

References to Morbidda Destiny, who stars in Karen's first Baby-Sitters Little Sister book, are a nice way to tie the two series together. I only hope I can someday catch up with Martin's prolific pen.

Editorial Review:

As a new member of the Baby-sitters Club, Dawn tries to win the acceptance of the club's president by tackling a tough babysitting job.

THis book 4 out of 5 stars.

This book was OK. I think that it was very very stupid for them to have been fighting so long. I also think it was stupid that Mary Anne lied to Dawn from the beginning of their friendship. Overall though the book was good.

Mary Anne is Hero! 4 out of 5 stars.

I thought this was a pretty good book, but when they fight over who gets to baby sit Lucy Newton that's what I didn't like about it. I thought Mary Ann had good judgement When Jenny got sick. Also I thought it was pretty cool when Mary Ann tried to get her friends back together, and made a new friend in the process.

Sweet 4 out of 5 stars.

In this book, shy Mary Anne and the rest of the Babysitters Club get into a fight. In the process of it, Miss Mary Anne meets a new friend and stands up to her dad. Mary Anne brings the club together and makes her friend a new member. She's changed so much.

Editorial Review:

When a fight breaks out among the members of the Babysitters Club, timid Mary Anne finds herself becoming more assertive as a baby sitter and in her relationships with her father and friends.

Welcome Mallory 4 out of 5 stars.

Mallory Pike has decided she wants to join the BSC. But the BSC gives her hard tests, and questions that probably no one in their grade could answer! But then Mallory meets Jessi Ramsey and they become fast friends. Jessi has LONG legs so she dances well in Ballet. Jessi hasn't been treated well because she is black, which is VERY unfair. Jessi and Mallory decide to start their own baby-sitting club. Read the rest to find out!
This book's moral is to treat others well and fairly, or their feelings will be hurt.

Mal and the snobs 4 out of 5 stars.

Poor Mallory is excited to join the Babysitters Club but doesn't expect them to give her such impossible tests and initiations...

Why did they make it hard for Mallory? 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Mallory pike has always wanted to be a member of the BSC. First, they test her with a test they don't know. Second, Claudia makes Mallory feel like a baby on her first baby sitting job. So Mallory and Jessi got irritated and they started their own club called "Kids Incorporated".

Editorial Review:

Recently enlisted by her former baby-sitters as the newest member of their club, Mallory resents their overly critical appraisals of her first jobs and decides to form her own sitter service with her best friend, Jesse. Reissue.

Kirsty has moved to a new neighborhood. She thinks the kids there are snobs. Shannon is a "snob" acording to kritsy. Then they make up and find that they are NOT SNOBS! Ver good.
BSC RULES!

Great book! 5 out of 5 stars.

When Kristy meets her new neighbor, Her neighbors are not friendly, in fact...they are snobs. They always laugh at everything. they even laugh at Kristy's poor collie. Kristy is getting mad. Kristy and THE BSC must teach them a lesson!

It was too good to put down 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is great, but sad about Louie the dog. Anyway, next door to Kristy lives a girl named Shannon. She's a big snob. She makes fun off poor Louie, Kristy's dog. Louie's blind. Then, Kristy and Shannon become great friends. I think that Shannon should have her own books, and a lot of them, too. She seems nice, at the end. In the beginning, yeah, she was snobby. But she turns out to be fine.

Editorial Review:

Moving into a mansion of a house after her mother marries a millionaire, Kristy misses living next door to her best friends and clashes with the snobby local children, who make fun of Kristy and her old dog, Louie. Reissue.

GOOD WORK! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I liked this book. Claudia was my favorite of the original quartet, so naturally I enjoyed this book. I love the descriptions of Claudia's cleverly put together ensembles and her appreciation for art. That speaks to sensitivity and creativity.

Betsy Sobak, Claudia's young charge is a virtuoso in the fine art of practical jokes. Her jokes are hostile and are always at the expense of another person. During Claudia's first sitting stint with Betsy, she falls from a tire swing and breaks her leg. Luckily for Claudia, her trio of sitting pals come through like the Cavalry by out-joking Betsy (in a safe way, of course) to teach her an object lesson in how to treat people in a humane fashion. Lesson: It is only kidding or funny if all sides are enjoying it, but if one side is not having fun, it is no longer kidding, it is mean.

I liked Betsy. The description given of her sounds like a cute kid with a vivid imagination. Ann Martin has a real gift for descriptions, dialogs, character development and I like the way the charges have a parallel plot running to the central plot the sitters are contending with. Ms. Martin has a real gift for the voices and feelings of kids.

Editorial Review:

The Baby-sitters experience a difficult time with Betsy Sobak, who is a master practical joker, but when a joke with a swing causes Claudia to break her leg, the prankster learns her lesson. Reissue.

A Really Good Holiday Story & Culturally Enriching! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I really liked this installment. Jessi, the narrator describes Kwanzaa, the African holiday and the history and traditions about Kwanzaa.

Jessi's redoubtable Aunt Cecilia is just as overly punitive as ever, until her father intervenes and reminds her that as long as she is living in HIS house, she will have to abide by HIS rules and not try to enforce her own. He defends his children and reminds his sister yet again that Jessi and her 8-year-old sister are still children and to cut them some slack. Chastened, the girls' aunt vows to do an about face and once again takes them Christmas shopping. Instead of chewing them out for being hungry or clowing around, the aunt bites her tongue. The only thing I had trouble with was her allowing the girls' baby brother to ride outside of his car seat when he becomes restless and fussy.

Unfortunately, they are involved in an accident and Squirt (John, Jr.) has to be hospitalized. Distraught over the baby's injuries, the parents chew the aunt out for her sheer irresponsibility (why would any ADULT allow a baby to ride in a car without being properly harnessed)? The Kwanzaa gatherings with other members of Jessi's family are strained and everybody is up in arms over the harm done to poor Squirt.

The subplot is excellent. Ann Martin has a real gift for creating dialog and scenes. The other members of the BSC plan a Kwanzaa skit and the BSCers and charges alike all get into the spirit of Kwanzaa and actually learn a few things. I laughed at the hilarious story of Malindy's Soul, the story the group put on. It was a delightful farce and really quite well woven into the story.

Fortunately, Squirt recovers and everybody has a wonderful holiday. Instead of Santa, everybody follows the Kwanzaa celebration. This book is really good.

Editorial Review:

Jessi's Christmas and Kwanzaa seasons are overshadowed by a car accident in which Jessi's baby brother, Squirt, is injured, and the difficult time proves challenging to her family's holiday spirit.
