This book was such a sweet little something to come home to at night. This book isn't just for kids, but for adults too! relax and enjoy!

one of our family's favorites 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is such a classic. I love reading it to my kids, no matter how many times they ask. (And as a homeschool mom of 4, I get asked a lot! I require it for kindergarten though.) And it gets even better the older you get. It is so funny and clever and wise and endearing. We see almost every personality type in the characters. Definitely a must-read, and if you can at all, own a copy of this book! (A good audio version is nice to have too--British accent a must!) It's on every children's book list I've seen, and with good reason--it's stood the test of time. The children in your life will thank you for introducing them to the original and still the best version of Winnie the Pooh.

Wonderful! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2 1/2 year old loves this! It is soooo much better than letting her watch tv as this uses her imagination. I'm very happy I bought this.

M. McLauhglin's Book Review 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Do you like Egypt or books about crimes? The Egypt Game, written by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, would then be the book for you. The Egypt Game is about a new girl from Hollywood named April who meets her neighbors, Melanie and Marshall, and starts a game about Egypt in the backyard of a strange clerk while there's a murderer on the loose, who has already killed two kids. The clerk is thought to be the murderer by a lot of people; however, the only one who thinks he's innocent is April.
The Egypt Game is a good book. Most people would've thought this book is just about Egypt, but it is cool because the author puts in the part about the murderer. The plot is pretty exciting, and all the characters act differently. By looking at the author's writing style, it seems that he or she likes to keep the book interesting throughout the story. The Egypt Game is a good book for ages ten and up, or it could just be for anyone who likes Egypt and crime stories.

Editorial Review:

When Melanie Ross and April Hall begin to play the Egypt Game, everyone thinks it’s just a game until strange things begin happening to the players. Has the Egypt Game gone too far?

Muth's watercolors are delicate and expressive, and work beautifully in retelling this familiar story. Oh, the wanderers are poor monks, and the setting isn't European, but it's still the same story we all love.

And that's why I chose this book over Muth's other children's books. I've enjoyed his adult artwork, and the paintings in the other kids' books are, if anything, better than the ones here. I just couldn't picture my four-year-old (check the suggested age groups) getting much out of Tolstoy's three existential questions, though. Maybe your kid is a bit more advanced, but Stone Soup seems to be a better match to this pre-schooler's philosophical needs.

Editorial Review:

Three strangers, hungry and tired, pass through a war-torn village. Embittered and suspicious from the war, the people hide their food and close their windows tight. That is, until the clever strangers suggest making a soup from stones. Intrigued by the idea, everyone brings what they have until-- together, they have made a feast fit for a king! In this inspiring story about the strength people possess when they work together, Muth takes a simple, beloved tale and adds his own fresh twist.

A Wonderful Book in a Great Series! 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

Betsy, Tacy, and Tib is a wonderful book in a great series. Maud Hart Lovelace did a spectacular job writing these stories. My mother read the books and loved them, my sister and I read the books and loved them, and now my little girls are reading them and loving them. These books never seem to grow old even though they are set during the turn of the 20th century. As a child, I not only read them, I wore the books out! I read and re-read the books, I couldn't put them down. I talked about them so much to my friends, they started checking them out from the Library and we would play Betsy-Tacy during recess. Now set in a period of a hundred years ago, they are still captivating kids today. My husband read the first four books in the series to our kids (Ages 7, 5, 3, and 1 at the time) and they love them all. My oldest begged me to let her keep my copies in her room so she could read them herself.

There are many great books in the series, this one in fact is not the first in the series. Check out the other books in the series, Betsy-Tacy, Betsy-Tacy Go Over the Big Hill, Betsy-Tacy Go Downtown, Heaven to Betsy, Betsy in Spite of Herself, Betsy was a Junior, Betsy and Joe, Betsy and the Great World, and Betsy's Wedding. The books take Betsy through grade school and high school, to Europe right before the 1st world war, then back to America for her wedding and the joys and troubles of married life. Some other books not in the Betsy-Tacy series but also by Maud Hart Lovelace and worth checking out are The Trees Kneel at Christmas, Winona's Pony Cart, Carney's House Party, and (my personal Maud Hart Lovelace favorite) Emily of Deep Valley.

Editorial Review:

Three of a Kind

Betsy and Tacy are best friends. Then Tib moves into the neighborhood and the three of them start to play together. The grown-ups think they will quarrel, but they don't. Sometimes they quarrel with Betsy's and Tacy's bossy big sisters, but they never quarrel among themselves.

They are not as good as they might be. They cook up awful messes in the kitchen, throw mud on each other and pretend to be beggars, and cut off each other's hair. But Betsy, Tacy, and Tib always manage to have a good time.

Ever since their first publication in the 1940s, the Betsy-Tacy stories have been loved by each generation of young readers.

Fraud 1 out of 5 stars.
9 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Buyer beware--this is written "in the style of HA Ray," i.e. by a faceless corporation and is illustrated by "Vipah Interactive" and was apparently written in the mid-90s. In other words, it's a scam. The story and illustrations both lack the charm and creativity of the original Curious George books--please avoid this attempt to cash in on the original.

Fun story 4 out of 5 stars.

My 18 month old loves to have this book read to her. She enjoys seeing George make pancakes, and especially loves when he adds blueberries. It is a cute book, and reminds me of those I read as a child.

My kids love this book 4 out of 5 stars.

While not as cute and creative as the original Curious George books, this one is decent. My kids don't mind at all and they love to read it over & over again.

Editorial Review:

Every year George and the man with the yellow hat attend the pancake breakfast to benefit the children's hospital. Always curious, George finds his way to the pancake table. After making some of the most interesting pancakes the crowd has ever seen George gets into even more monkey mischief.

Free SF Reader 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

White Fang is a pup born a hybrid, part wolf and part dog. The other dogs, therefore, are not big fans of his. He ends up a tough super-dog as a result, and as such, attracts the attention of dog fighters, and keeps winning until he is rescused from a fight.

He ends up helping out his new owners, and getting to relax and enjoy his golden years.

Only the best book of all time [IMO] 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I picked up this book in the 6th grade for an English class assignment. I didn't even finish it the first time I tried to go through it. I was bored with it as I usually am with books I am made to read. However, a year or two later I was back at the challenge. I feel guilty about leaving books unfinished, and since wolves are by far my favorite animal I needed to give this book another shot. Since then I've read this book about 6 times and can tell you all about the events and characters, the struggles, and the ending. It's become my favorite book with no close rivals, as Jack London has become my favorite author. It's excellently written, descriptive, with a wonderful story of the hardships and trials of one wolf-dog's life in the far North.

Editorial Review:

With an introduction from award winning K.A. Applegate, White Fang is one of London's classic tales of survival and one of his most popular stories. White Fang is part dog, part wolf, and the lone survivor of his family. In his lonely world, he soon learns to follow the law of the North--kill or be killed.

My daughter loves these books. 5 out of 5 stars.
22 of 22 people found this review helpful.

I was a little hesitant to buy these for my daughter, but my wife loved these stories as a child, and now my 3 year old loves them as well. She has the famous beginning memorized and wants to read all 3 books every night before going to bed. I'm not sure of the necessity of buying the books in this form, they are paperback and small, but my daughter can carry all 3 around easily and can hold the books on her lap, unlike some of the large hard backs.

Perfect! 5 out of 5 stars.

These books are perfect for little hands. I grew up loving the Madeline stories and now my daughter does too! A winner!

Editorial Review:

Madeline's three most popular adventures in complete, unabridged miniature editions, are packaged in a replica of the famous "old house in Paris that was covered with vines." The attractive box includes Madeline, Madeline's Rescue, and Madeline and the Bad Hat and has a convenient carrying handle so children can take Madeline with them wherever they go.

Not up to par with the Disney classics, of course, but entertaining enough and of decent quality. Good for students learning Spanish.
My 3 y.o has watched it several times even though he's not into horses, so I guess he likes it well enough.
I would say that girls would like it better.

This was a fun addition to my library as it was a childhood favorite. This was a lovely edition, beautifully printed and bound. The seller packed to be sure it arrived in the same great shape it was in when it was sold too. I am very pleased with the book and the seller.

Truly Classical!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I waited my entire life to finally sit down and read "Black Beauty". What a GREAT book!!! This is one I will be keeping!

Editorial Review:

As a young horse, Black Beauty is well-loved and happy. But when his owner is forced to sell him, his life changes drastically. He has many new owners--some of them cruel and some of them kind. All he needs is someone to love him again...Whether pulling an elegant carriage or a ramshackle cab, Black Beauty tries to live as best he can. This is his amazing story, told as only he could tell it.

A rollicking adventure! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Trixie Belden and Honey Wheeler find a diamond in the abandoned gatehouse at the edge of the Wheelers' property, but someone is trying to get it back. Meanwhile, Trixie's brothers Brian and Mart have returned from camp, meeting Honey and her brother Jim for the first time, so the secret Bob-Whites of the Glen club is ripe for formation.

As much trouble as the girls get into, the adults still come off as helpful and intelligent, unlike many other YA mystery series (or even the Harry Potter books).

Usually I prefer the Deluxe edition from the 1960s with covers illustrated by Paul Frame, but for this one, check out the edition illustrated by Mary Stevens. One picture shows Trixie and Honey doing some pruning -- with Trixie looking remarkably like Beavis of MTV fame -- and a charming Ashley Judd look-alike picture of Trixie greeting Mart. This book also features the memorable line by Regan, the Wheeler's beloved young groom, "Reach for the ceiling, Laughing-Boy."

Editorial Review:

When Trixie and Honey explore an abandoned gatehouse, they discover more than dust and spiderwebs. Stuck in the dirt floor is a huge diamond! Could a ring of jewel thieves be hiding out in Sleepyside?

Best Book On Boyhood Of All-Time? 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Ever since my dad first read this timeless classic to my sister & me as kids, while camping in our trailer during the summer, it has left its indelible impression upon my imagination. How I too wanted to shove off from shore on my "skiff" and have my own adventures down the Mississippi! I know of no other book that so wonderfully captures the essence and joy of carefree boyhood.

When I say "carefree", however, I am not forgetting the grim and serious elements of the novel. But these work just as well as the sunnier and funnier parts. In fact, just when the narrative needs it, a murder comes along which boosts the plot most effectively, giving it a shot in the arm. And speaking of the darker aspects, does not Injun Joe have to rank highly on the list of greatest villains in the history of literature? I can assure you that as a boy listening to the cave chapters, his menace was palpable and unforgettable.

Unfortunately, literary snobs have often found it fashionable to belittle Tom Sawyer as inconsequential and a 'lightweight' seen against the towering greatness of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". I couldn't disagree more. (I love Huckleberry Finn dearly and plan to review it soon as well). I read a quote in a foreword that I thought was very insightful: "Huckleberry Finn is a greater book, but not a better one." I think this is exactly so. Extol the greatness of HF by all means, but don't make the mistake of downgrading Twain's other masterpiece, just because its theme is not so weighty and grave. In fact, the episodic nature of the telling of Tom Sawyer fit Twain's particular brand of genius perfectly (whereas there were some sub par stretches in Huck Finn).

Loved it as a boy, love it no less as a man. Thank you, dad, for imparting such an enduring gift.
