A little more advanced - in a good way 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 12 people found this review helpful.

My daughter was born in March, 2002. She's now 6 and a half. We didn't discover Fancy Nancy until Feb 2007, so she was about 5. It's been a little disappointing for this series to come out as she is outgrowing it. The stories are cute but a little simple for a first grader.

Although "The Boy from Paris" and "...at the Museum" were good, this book just seems more advanced. I am hoping that Ms. O'Connor will write a few books aging Nancy as the authors of Junie B. Jones and Katie Kazoo have done. We'd like to keep the illustrations while progressing to more challenging reading. (Although, her books are all great at introducing new words!)

Editorial Review:

Nancy absolutely adores stars. She loves how they sparkle in the sky, and she can even name the constellations. Nancy can hardly wait for her class visit to the planetarium!

Young readers will delight in this newest addition to the Fancy Nancy I Can Read series, sharing in Nancy's anticipation and disappointment when the trip doesn't go as planned. But with her trademark panache, Nancy manages to make even this frustrating situation fun—and, of course, fancy.

Fun book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My son, who is 11 months old, got this book a couple of months ago. He loves to lift the flaps and hear me make the animal sounds. I like the sturdiness of the book...it has already been through the ringers and all the flaps are still attatched! A good book for babies learning animals and their sounds.

Great little book! 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter (now 2 years old) has loved this book since she was 8 months old. Its great for travel because it is small and because it has a lot of pages for a board book. I had to open the flaps for her when she was little but now she loves to do it herself. We used this book to teach her the sounds the animals make and now she is learning to say the names of the animals. It has held up well considering the heavy use its had. At two, it is still a favorite book. I'm glad we bought it.

Both of my kids LOVED this little book & still do! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this tiny book 4 years ago at one of our local book shops. It is now tattered and torn from all the use it has gotten over the years by both of my kids! But it is still one of their favorites. It has taken a beating and we still keep reading! This is the book that I keep in my purse or diaper bag to keep my kids occupied at a restaurant, in a waiting room or at the grocery store. It really is a simple little book with just the right number of peek a boo flaps! I highly recommend this tiny board book to any family on the go :)Mommy's High Heel Shoes

Illustrated in full color. Open the barn door and take a tour around the barnyard to find out just who's making all those wonderful animal sounds.

Oh la la! We're going to a museum to see masterpieces! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 17 people found this review helpful.

What is there not to like about Fancy Nancy! Since this series began, young readers (and their parents) have held in their hands someone precious and pretty and sweet and fancy. The artwork is simply adorable and utterly feminine in depicting the precious and precocious Nancy.

With this reader, Fancy Nancy joins the I Can Read! group of books. At Level 1 (which this book is) the reader is offered "simple sentences for eager new readers." However, a little more is added: "big" words and French words, making this book a wonderful learning experience, from fancy clothes, art terms, a field trip, and the slogan: Kindness is practiced here, through Ms Glass's generosity in sharing her art shirt and beret with Nancy after her disaster.

Nancy and the other children learn the meaning of landscapes (as they view them), still lifes, and portraits. They learn merci, oh la la, spectacular, beret, gallery, masterpiece, observant. Obviously, this book is more than a repetitive reader. It challenges above level, a strategy that pushes learning without being ridiculous.

Parents and librarians, if you haven't seen Fancy Nancy books, please look into these titles: Fancy Nancy Loves! Loves!! Loves!!! (Fancy Nancy), Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy (Fancy Nancy), and the next reader: Fancy Nancy and the Boy from Paris (I Can Read Book 1).

Your daughters will love this charming little girl. And I believe you will, too!

Editorial Review:

Nancy's class is going on a trip to the museum. Even after a bumpy bus ride, Nancy finds a way to make the day extra-fancy!

A Holiday Classic 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The holiday season would be incomplete without the annual reading of this delightful tale that introduces the little ones and many of the big ones too, to the residents of Whoville. A timeless tale where one will meet Little Cindy Lou Who, Max the Dog, and the Grinch, whose heart is two sizes too small. In the end, the Grinch is not the only one that discovers the true meaning of the holiday. Another Dr. Seuss classic.

Editorial Review:

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. But are you rotten enough to ruin Whoville's Christmas Whobilation this year, even after Cindy Lou Who nominates you to be the Cheermeister of the event? Based on Dr. Seuss's wacky and wonderful classic picture book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the motion picture screenplay of the same name, this novelization elaborates on the story of a holiday gone awry. Little Cindy Lou Who, her cheerfully dopey dad, Lou Lou Who, her semi-delinquent teenage brothers Stu and Drew Lou Who, the Martha Stewartesque Martha May Whovier, and the nastiest, most cynical, evil-hearted Grinch around star in this Christmas comedy. Seventeen color photos from the film are included. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

Best Star Wars product ever 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

There isn't much else to be said that the other reviews don't say - clearly this is a winner. There is something magical about a non techie item that reveres the tech filled star wars universe. During Hurricane Ike in Tx, we had no power for nearly a week and my kids loved this book. There were so many delightful surprises in it, its a wonder of papercraft engineering that will delight for years to come.

Editorial Review:

Sabuda and Reinhart Studios have created another spectacular pop-up book for George Lucas's epic STAR WARS movies! Bestselling pop-up artist and engineer Matthew Reinhart has designed a thirtieth anniversary commemorative edition that comes packed with a variety of novelty features -- pop-ups, working light sabers, pull tabs, and other interactive looks at the exciting and popular movies. This beautiful book will impress all fans of STAR WARS and gives a whole new perspective to the films.

MATTHEW REINHART is a renowned paper engineer and bona fide STARS WARS aficionado. website does not work 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 18 people found this review helpful.

Don't bother buying the clue cards for this series, at this point anyway. My son tried creating an account with his cards the first day the book came out. The website is supposed to send you an email with a link to activate your account. We never received this email. We tried a second time to create an account the next day.... still no email. I sent them an email informing them of the problem.... still no email. I like the concept of the whole thing; however, they haven't been able to pull off the website game aspect of it. Hopefully, they'll get it to work soon. Is anyone else having this problem?

Another Fabulous "Fancy Nancy" book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is darling and fun to read with a kindergartener/first grader. If you like the other "Fancy Nancy" books, then you'll be pleased with this one. You can't beat the price.

Do we love Nancy? Oui, Oui, Oui! 5 out of 5 stars.

She's charming...and you can't help but love her. How cute it was that she thought she had finally met a real French person...oh well, Paris, Texas isn't very close to the Riveria, but as the book says, she did make a new friend, and that's a good thing too.

laughing and learning 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter loves to read 4 out of 5 stars.

My daughter loves Fancy Nancy books. I think the character is cute and perfect for little girls. This is a starter book, but I figured she could pass it on to younger friends and get them started on Fancy Nancy after she reads it.

Great self-read book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a good self-reading story with a fun character my second grader can relate to.

There's a new boy in school, and he's from Paris. Nancy cannot believe her luck. But this Parisian may not be as fancy as Nancy expects!

Two boys' review: Suess with simpler rhymes than Fox in Socks 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is one of our first bedtime books for our sons along with "Hop on Pop" and "The Foot Book". This beginner's book provides simple rhymes that are easy to learn and repeat.

We don't read this book as much anymore. We later graduated to "Fox in Socks." My oldest has returned to this book as an early reader. (I have to mix up the pages because my boys have much of the book memorized).

An Under-rated Classic!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

"Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham" get all the fame and glory, and I actually don't remember ever reading "One Fish Two Fish" as a child. But I've discovered this book now that I have a three year-old of my own, and it has become our favorites. Dr. Seuss is exceptionally skilled at playing with words and rhymes and coming up with hilarious, fun, well-crafted sentences. This book contains some of his best work. The books make learning language great fun. I was amazed last night when my daughter started rattling off the sentences in the book from memory as I read it to her, and she had great fun doing it. A children's book that both children and adults can appreciate and one that inspires in children a love of learning language: what more could a parent want?

And one other editorial comment...now that I've spent much time scouring the library shelves for good books for my child, I have come to have tremendous appreciation for Dr. Seuss's talent and wit. Almost all children's book authors fall far short of the standard Dr. Seuss set decades ago. Give me "One Fish Two Fish" or "The Lorax" over "The Polar Express" any day!

Editorial Review:

Surely among the most lovable of all Dr. Seuss creations, Horton the Elephant represents kindness, trustworthiness, and perseverance--all wrapped up, thank goodness, in a comical and even absurd package. Horton hears a cry for help from a speck of dust, and spends much of the book trying to protect the infinitesimal creatures who live on it from the derision and trickery of other animals, who think their elephant friend has gone quite nutty. But worse is in store: an eagle carries away the clover in which Horton has placed the life-bearing speck, and "let that small clover drop somewhere inside / of a great patch of clovers a hundred miles wide!" Horton wins in the end, after persuading the "Who's" to make as much noise as possible and prove their existence. This classic is not only fun, but a great way to introduce thoughtful children to essentially philosophical questions. How, after all, are we so sure there aren't invisible civilizations floating by on every mote? (Ages 4 to 8) --Richard Farr

Editorial Review:

You've prepared your child for reading - refrigerator magnets down low and easy to reach; letter sounds taught. Your child can proudly spell his or her name. Perhaps he can identify the "stop" and "open" signs as you drive in your car. He or she is ready for the next step into reading. Inside the colorful box, the bright red cover beckons. On the first page, the letters: M - a - t. Your child says the sounds: mmmmm, aaa, ttt. Then, faster: "Mat." Your youngster has read his first word! "Sam", "sat" and "on" complete the vocabulary, and suddenly your child can say, "I read the whole book!(tm)" That is the magic of Bob Books. After 13 years of teaching 3, 4 and 5-year-olds, watching a child make that giant first step into reading still thrills me. The pride in their eyes, their triumphant grasp of a difficult concept, and opening their world to the excitement of books and reading, has brought me many years of satisfaction. Bob Books were specifically designed to facilitate that ah-ha moment, when letters first turn into words. By slowly introducing new letter sounds, using consistency and repetition, and stories that fit short attention spans, your child will quickly find his or her own ah-ha moment.
