Amelia Bedelia is the BEST! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

When I was a kid, I wore Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia out! I probably couldn't tell you much about the plot, but anybody who's ever read an Amelia Bedelia book knows that it's all about her doing everything wrong! The only thing that sticks with me is the picture of Amelia stuffing the Christmas stockings with turkey stuffing, which to this day I find hilarious. I don't know what it is about this one particular story, maybe it's because it's the only Amelia Bedelia book I ever read, but I love it just the same. I my mind, it ranks up there with Charlotte's Web and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; it's just one of those funny, timeless books that fed my lifelong passion for reading and writing.

My Review of Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia 5 out of 5 stars.

I think that this is a good book for little kids. It is fun for them to read. When little kids read this they always laugh at how Amelia always makes mistakes. She always seems to do something wrong.

Christmas cheer

It's Christmas Eve, and Amelia Bedelia has to get the Rogers house ready for a visit from Aunt Myra. But with Amelia Bedelia in charge, this Christmas will be one of the funniest ever!

Funny as always! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my nice and I read it to he and I enjoyed it myself! Is as funny as any other Amelia Bedelia book, and it even gives a general idea on what camping is all about!

so randomly funny 5 out of 5 stars.

So the rogers and amelia go on a camping trip but everything was a disaster! The sleeping 'bags' were paper bags, the tent steaks were tent-shaped steak slices, she 'pitched' the tent and other funny things.

who doesn't love Amelia Bedelia? 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this before our family went on its first camping trip. Although I thought the authors could have found many more "gags" than they did, it was still pretty much classic Amelia Bedelia, who takes everything VERY literally, with funny results.

Editorial Review:

Camp Out

Amelia Bedelia has never been camping in the great outdoors before. She's trying her best to do exactly as she's told, but pitching a tent is not the same as throwing it into the bushes, and catching a fish with your bare hands isn't easy. As usual, the mixed-up housekeeper makes this camping trip one hugely entertaining adventure.

I loved this book as a kid 5 out of 5 stars.

amelia bedelia is teaching a classroom but she does everything wrong but in such a funny way! Calling the roll, practicing a "play", "painting" pictures, planting "bulbs" and literally doing math problems with apples has never been funnier than in this book! Read it and you'll see why

Ohhh, Amelia Bedelia will teach you a thing or two! 5 out of 5 stars.

Amazing news! Amelia Bedelia has been mistaken as the new classroom teacher, and you just know she will take her duties very seriously. Look out! Amelia will follow every direction to the letter, and amaze every student with her interpretation of schoolwork.

There are lots of laughs here for young readers!

Oh no! Amelia Bedelia is a Teacher now. 5 out of 5 stars.

One day, while Amelia Bedelia, the housekeeper who literally takes everything literally, was cleaning, the phone rang. It was Mrs. Rogers, calling from the airport. She was supposed to meet the new teacher, but the plane was late. To further complicate matters the phone was out at the school. Mrs. Rogers wants Amelia to go by the school and tell them the teacher will not be there today. Amelia attempts to do just that, but the principal mistakes her for the new teacher and that's when all the fun starts. Amelia Bedelia teaching a classroom full of children, imagine that. Well, my almost three-year-old son Devon and I imagine it all the time.

Devon already knows his letters, upper and lower case. He knows they make words and he loves to sit while I read Amelia Bedelia stories to him. We've been doing it for over a year now. At first I made up the story line as his didn't have the attention span or the ability to understand. Now I've started reading, pointing to the words as I go along. Ms. Parish has written an excellent series for children and in this one, Lynn Sweat's illustrations set off Amelia's tales to a tee. If you want your toddler to read early, and I do, then this is a series for you.

I wish I could write like this! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Calling Doctor Amelia Bedelia by Herman Parish, like all of his Amelia Bedelia books, is hysterically funny. Parish's use of expressions confuse Mr. Rogers' maid, Amelia Bedelia, throughout the entire story. Poor, silly, Amelia Bedelia never realizes how confused she really is. She takes everything anyone says literally, so when her boss Mr. Rogers says "jump in the car", she thinks that he actually means to sit in the car and jump.
In this story, Amelia Bedelia goes to the doctor. However, when she gets there the nurse asks for Amelia Bedelia's help with the patients. A woman who calls the doctor's office to complain that she has "caught a bug" is told to "let it go" by Amelia Bedelia. She proceeds to tell a woman who has hives to bring some honey to the doctor's office. She looks at a bank's clock to take a patient's temperature and she tells a boy to draw his own blood onto a piece of blank paper. A boy says that he is at the office for a test and Amelia Bedelia tells him that he must go to school.
No matter what Amelia Bedelia did for most of the book, she is a hit when she "treats" the patients to ice cream! This is not exactly what the nurse had in mind when she said to treat the patients, however, Amelia Bedelia comes out looking like a hero!
Amelia Bedelia is entertaining to the adults who read this story to children because we have an even better sense of Amelia Bedelia's silliness. I love reading this story to my second graders and they love hearing it!

Amelia Bedelia is helping out again. This time she's babysitting. But don't worry -- she's got a LIST! And you all know that if there's one thing Amelia Bedelia knows how to do, it's follow instructions -- to the tiniest detail, even if she's not quite right about what those details might mean.

Young readers will absolutely love the cute story and awesome illustrations that bring it all to life! Amelia Bedelia and the Baby is a book that families will adore.

Great entertaining book! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a very funny book and is especially good to be read to toddlers. When Amelia is asked to stake the beans, she ties steak to them. When she's asked to make a tea cake, she makes one with tea in it. It offers a very good example of how what we say makes all the difference in the world, and whether or not what we are saying is what is being understood. When Amelia is asked to weed the garden, she thinks she's supposed to add more weeds, not "unweed it" as she states in the story. It's a little long - about 50 pages in my edition so it's a little much for a youngster to sit through but if they can do it like mine can, it is a great book to teach. I highly recommend this one.

We Love You Amelia Bedelia! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is surly a kids favorite since I was a little girl! We join Amelia Bedelia as she starts her first day of work for the Rodgers. They rush off shortly after she arrives, but they've left her a list of things to do. Should be a snap, as all the tasks are simple and clearly stated...but that's what you think...Amelia Bedelia begins completing each chore in quite a literal fashion...drawing the drapes and much, much more! Younger kids (1-4) will like the silliness of it and beginner readers and more savvy grade schoolers (5-8) will like that's it's simple and clever/silly too! I recommend it without reservation! I'm sure Amelia will be with us, teaching fine lessons about the words we use and the many means they can have for generations to come!

Editorial Review:

This time-saving, easy-to-use teacher guide includes inspiring lesson plans which provide a comprehensive novel unit--the legwork is done for you! The guide incorporates essential reading, writing and thinking practice. (This is NOT the paperback novel.)

My daughter and I have been enjoying Amelia Bedelia books for a long time. Even before my daughter was able to understand the puns, she knew something silly was going on. We have a whole collection of these books and enjoy reading them over again. If you like silly puns, you will love Amelia Bedelia and the clever writing of Peggy Parish.

This is a good resource to use for both content-area teachers and ELL teachers alike when introducing metaphors for the first time in elementary school. For ELL teachers, I think this book would be suitable for 3rd or 4th graders who have solid comprehension skills of basic idioms. It would be too hard for newcomers.

Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

"Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia" is a story about a girl named Amelia Bedelia who wants to visit her cousin Alcolu so she can take a day off and rest on her birthday. Friends of hers, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers allow her to use their car to get to her cousin's house. But first Mr. Rogers takes Amelia out to make sure she still knows how to drive. Along the way, Amelia keeps misinterpreting Mr. Rogers's directions, like pushing on the horn of a cow instead of honking the car horn and misinterpreting a fork in the road as an actual kitchen utensil lying in the road. Soon their car gets a flat tire, but luckily a man in a towtruck happens to pass by and gives them a ride home where a party is waiting for Amelia.
I think that this is a pretty good book because it is fun to see how Amelia Bedelia can mix up just about anything Mr. Rogers says to her but I didn't find anything really special about it. The book is entirely for entertainment of how Amelia totally misinterprets everything around her.

Editorial Review:

When Mr. Rogers goes for a drive with Amelia Bedelia, he's in for the ride of his life. She does exactly what he tells her –– and that gets them into trouble, but only Amelia Bedelia can make a car trip this much fun!

Amelia Bedelia is Job Hunting, Look Out! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

When Amelia Bedelia, the housekeeper who literally takes everything literally, brings Mrs. Rogers her cereal with coffee, the woman takes one look at those flakes floating around in her coffee cup and fires Amelia before she gets a chance to fill her creme puffs. Amelia, one who always sees the bright side of life, sets out to find a job. First she goes to work in a beauty shop, but when she's told to pin up a customer's hair and does it with pins from her purse, she is fired. Then she finds work in a dress shop as a seamstress, but she shortens all the dresses with a scissors and is fired. As a file clerk, she stamps on the letters with her feet when told to stamp them and files papers with a fingernail file when told to file them. And when she goes to work for a doctor, well, you'll just have to read this book to your child to find out what mischief she gets into there. Fortunately she makes a terrific cream puff, because when she remembers she forgot to fill them and goes by the Rogers', they hire her back, because those cream puffs are just oh so good.

My son Devon is fast approaching three. He knows his letters, upper and lower case. He knows they make words and he loves to sit while I read Amelia Bedelia stories to him. We've been doing it for over a year now. At first I made up the story line as his didn't have the attention span or the ability to understand. Now I've started reading, pointing to the words as I go along. Ms. Parish has written an excellent series for children and in this one, Wallace Tripps illustrations set off Amelia's tales to a tee. If you want your toddler to read early, and I do, then this is a series for you.

Editorial Review:

In this vibrant edition, newly recolored by the original illustrator, Amelia Bedelia's job search gets her into another ‘homonym hot seat because she does what she's told'literally. For example, she gets a job as a file clerk, only she takes out a nail file and shreds the papers she's supposed to file away! The comic convolutions are endless and endlessly enjoyable.''The Baton Rouge Advocate Magazine.
