First book review, but there's no more deserving story! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed the first 3 books in this series, and this one is wonderful! The characters are people that I want to know more about, plus there is a connection to characters from the other books. Once I started reading, I had to keep going to find out what happened, so start this book when you have a good chunk of time to spend with it!

Editorial Review:

"Lani opened her eyes fully, straining to see something, anything. It was as though she swam in a black sea that blacked out all light, all visual sensation. 'I can't see,' she whispered. 'I can't see!' Her shriek rose and echoed off the blackness."

A seemingly random shooting at her aunt's coffee farm has left Lani Tagama blind. Now she must learn to navigate in a world of darkness. With the help of an embittered ex-cop, Ben, and a half-trained guide dog, Fisher, Lani discovers she can regain a shadow of her former independence.

But strange and dangerous secrets lurk behind the beauty of this seaside paradise. Suspicion grows that this was not a random shooting, but an attempted murder, one with its roots in a hippie commune burned over thirty year ago. Lani realizes she is a target, and that she must find the shooter before he strikes again.

Great Read! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I heard about this book when it first came out but just now had a chance to read it right before book 2 came out. A great read that reads quickly. It reminds me of alot of National Treasure but deals with church history and the Guttenberg Bible instead of American history. Some of it does seem sensational but it is still a fun read. Also I liked the characters as they had some major issues/flaws that we can all relate to. I have already picked up a copy of House of Wolves (book 2) which looks just as good.

Editorial Review:

August Adams has failed his family before. He's sacrificed relationships in pursuit of adventure, fame, and money. Now the very lives of those he loves depend on his ability to decipher a centuries-old puzzle encrypted in the colorful hand-painted illuminations that adorn three rare Gutenberg Bibles.

It's a secret that could yield unimaginable wealth, undermine two major religions, and change the course of Western civilization. Two ruthless, ancient organizations are willing to do anything to get their hands on it. And August has the span of one transatlantic flight to figure it out.

If he fails, those he holds most dear will die. If he succeeds, he'll destroy a national treasure.

The clock ticks, the suspense mounts, and the body count rises as August pits his knowledge and his love for his family against the clock, secret societies, and even Johannes Gutenberg himself.

Editorial Review:

A suspenseful yet touching story of a Civil war Bible that pops up again and again over a century and shapes the very history of the nation.

This rich and involving historical and archeological thriller begins as a Union soldier, Tate, shoots a Confederate preacher known as the Bell Messenger and is bequeathed a worn Bible by the dying man. Tate's historical narrative parallels the contemporary story of John Brandon, who has just graduated college in 2000 and received the very same Bible, unearthed in a Saudi Arabian cave, as a gift.

The potent history of this book is revealed as Brandon searches for its previous owners, along the way uncovering the existence of a mysterious cache of gold hidden during Old Testament times -- which brings shadowy figures hot on Brandon's heels, hungry for the gold and desperate to learn the new clues he possesses.

As the past and present intertwine, the reader learns that this Bible has passed through many hands over the years. From the Civil War to the building of the Central Pacific Railroad, to the gang wars and the holding of Chinese slaves in nineteenth-century California, to the trenches of World War I, Brandon learns of the lives this Bible has saved, the deaths it has caused, and the history it has changed forever.

Excellent mystery 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the setting and the characters. The style seems a little different than some of his other books. God is real in some of the people's lives and some do not follow him, the way it is in real life.

Editorial Review:

Lady Trent's sleuthing skills are put to the test in a Victorian mystery about mischief, murder, and a lost heir.

With the aid of her partner Dylan Tremayne, Lady Serafina Trent aims to help her neighbors-the Haydens-determine who the true heir is to their sizable estate. After some investigating, she shocks the Haydens when she reveals that the child they believed had died at birth is actually alive and living as a criminal in London's worst slum.

Then the Hayden's butler is murdered and the stakes are dangerously raised. Lady Serafina must employ her famous scientific reasoning to help her discover answers before foul play strikes again-though her beloved reason fails to explain her growing attraction to Dylan . . .

Enjoy Victorian England through the eyes of Christian Fiction's most beloved author.

Great Political-Military Thriller 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

A fascinating political and military thriller that could be ripped off today's headlines. Murder, suspense, rescue, romance, all these topics are woven throught Defiance. I really love how Don Brown isn't shy abotut tackling poliltically incorrect storylines in his novels.

Defiance deals with the explosive topic of gays in the military and proposed "hate crimes," which a certain presidential candidate, Senator Eleanor Claxton, is trying to force the military to adopt.

I found it interesting how Senator Claxton bears a striking resemblance to a certain real-life U.S. Senator who badly wants to be president, and who might very well adopt some of the positions that Claxton adopts.

Don Brown does a fabulous job of character development of his villans and heros and I was glad to see super-hero JAG Officer Zack Brewer play such a prominent role in the storyline. The close of the book made me want to cry for joy. I finished with a renewed appreciation for our U.S. Navy, and my only complaint is that I didn't want the book to end.

Editorial Review:

The murder of an international attorney, the posturing of a power-hungry politician, the schemes of a psychotic stalker, and the high-stakes drama of a daring rescue mission: Navy JAG Lieutenant Commander Zack Brewer is in the spotlight and the danger zone.

Kanner Lake Series by Brandilyn Collins 5 out of 5 stars.

I highly recommend Violet Dawn, Coral Moon, Crimson Eve & Amber Morn. If you like suspense, you'll be riveted to these books. The people of Kanner Lake with become like old friends and you'll be easily drawn ino their struggles and triumphs as God's grace sees them through it all

Powerful conclusion 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Wow....where do I start? Wow! Great book! When you finish a four part series and the characters have become so alive, it's sad to see it end. Simply put, Amber Morn is an incredible conclusion to the Kanner Lake series.

The Java-Joint gang have all come to celebrate the signing of S-Man's contract. It's a beautiful morning, spirits are high, and everyone is bursting with happiness. Never in there wildest nightmares, could they imagine that in a few short minutes, three men would enter, shoot one man, and hold 12 others hostage.

While the first three books are mystery/suspense, Amber Morn is an all out thriller. The characters we've grown quite fond of are put in a situation where their love and friendship is clearly visible. Each one willing to do whatever it takes to protect the others. Each one relying on God and those around them to make it till their ordeal is over. It's an amazing story of friendship and coming together in times of crisis.

It's also an excellent glimpse at the flip side. A hardened family outside of God's love with two uncontrollable adult children. A mother unable to feel beyond her own pain to grasp what her family is doing. A family that sees injustice rather than their own flaws. A family that's willing to kill thirteen people just to see their convicted son freed from jail. An amazing contrast between misguided love and true devoted love.

The end of Amber Morn is a nice conclusion to this series. It was truly one of the best four part series I've read in a while. I found myself totally involved in these character's lives and loving every minute of it. Excellent, excellent series.

Editorial Review:

In book four of the Kanner Lake Series, a Saturday morning celebration at Java Joint coffee shop for the “Scenes and Beans” bloggers turns into terror when three gunmen burst into the coffee shop, shoot one person, and hold the rest hostage. Their demand: the world’s attention. The stakes: the lives of over a dozen Kanner Lake citizens.

Amazing! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

You expect a hero to be very strong or very smart, or, as in this book, both. You don't expect him to have a name like Wayne Grusza or to have senior citizens as sidekicks. Yet, Davis Bunn's extraordinary writing talent and brilliant knowledge of the world of high-finance make this story engrossing, entertaining, and believable.

When I read and loved Full Circle back in April, I had no idea that it would turn out to be Bunn's second-best book this year. All Through the Night held me captive and kept me guessing from beginning to end with its winning characters and suspenseful mystery. On top of it all, the book grapples with questions of faith, community and heroism. I couldn't put it down but didn't want it to end. Fortunately, the great descriptions of Wayne, Tatyana, Victoria, Julio, and all the others, and of the world they inhabit make it easy for me imagine how their lives will continue. Davis Bunn just keeps getting better!

I bought this book for my Mom as a Christmas gift. She read the book in two days and absolutely loved it!! She now has 2 books from this series and can't wait to get the other ones!!

Worth the read 5 out of 5 stars.

Another Teri Blackstock goodie! This has a different twist from the beginning that is enjoyable. I am a Mary Higgins Clark fan and have found Teri Blackstock to be a comparable author and story teller. I especially appreciate her Christian perspective. It is not overwhelming but realistic about how real Christians live their lives. They are not super people who never have problems but real folks who deal with their problems through their faith in Christ.

Justifiable Means 5 out of 5 stars.

Another great story from Terri Blackstock. I tend to stick to Christian authors because I enjoy the content. This book was no different. Terri can shape the characters into anything she desires. This book is full of romance, suspense and intrigue. A who-done-it that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I have now read all the books in this series. I am waiting patiently for another one of her fantastic stories. Thanks Terri.

Editorial Review:

This exciting novel of mystery, suspense, and romance, book 2 of Blackstock's Sun Coast Chronicles, involves a cop's newfound love for a rape victim and the tough Christian choices he struggles to make.

A satisfying serving by Cyndy Salzmann 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Dying to Decorate by author Cyndy Salzmann, is the first in the Friday Afternoon Club Series. The narrator of the story is a woman named Liz, a stay-at-home mom who writes a newspaper column (think Martha Stewart meets Flylady). The friends in the Friday Afternoon Club, or FAC, get together weekly to get a little R&R from their all-too busy lives. They support each other with fierce devotion, and when one of the members goes AWOL from the club for a few weeks, they go on a rescue mission. The group learns that their friend Lucy, recovering from the deaths in the past year of both her husband and her mother, has slid into a depression. She has also recently inherited an old Civil War style home from an elderly aunt, and the FAC thinks it will be the perfect diversion to nudge Lucy away from her slump. The group determines to have a decorating party/get-away weekend to help restore the lovely old house. Startling discoveries and a secret diary found hidden in the house from Civil War times raise serious questions about the history of Lucy's past relatives. With help from the diary and Lucy's Aunt Bette, the group learns about true strength of character and sacrificial heroism that begins at home.

While the novel isn't a `mystery' in the classic sense, it has great sense of suspense as the story unfolds. Add to that a wonderfully refreshing humor intertwined in a very satisfying story. If that isn't enough, the book includes many wonderful recipes that tie into each chapter. To a book-loving foodie, it's the ultimate in reading. With recipes like Melt-In-Your-Mouth Pot Roast, I'm So Sorry Snickerdoodles, and Liz's Triple Chocolate Pecan Brownies, it's a struggle to decide whether to finish reading or to hit the kitchen to whip up some of the goodies laced throughout the book.

It's a fantastic read all around, and I can't wait for the next installment in the series. Her next book, Crime and Clutter (A Friday Afternoon Club Mystery) is scheduled to be released in April 2007.

Editorial Review:

Just as "The Babysitter's Club" series successfully captured a generation of young girls, Cyndy Salzmann's Friday Afternoon Club series lays claim to moms who cherish long-standing friendship . . . and a bit of mystery. While juggling the responsibilities of carpool, laundry, and ballet lessons, this group of close friends find time to act as sleuths, unraveling mysteries and gaining spiritual truths along the way. Readers will readily identify with these richly drawn characters caught in the chaos of raising a family, maintaining friendships, and sorting out the items of intrigue that draw them in.

"You're afraid of really living, Haley." He flicked his finger at her camera. "You hide behind your camera instead of stepping out and engaging life with both hands. You're so afraid you'll fail at something, you won't even try."

For some people, Alaska is a breathtaking wilderness adventure, full of light and beauty. For Haley, it is a dangerous world of dark dreams and tortured memories. The suspense mounts when another body turns up, and Haley beginst to wonder if the tragedies she experienced in the past are connected to the dangers and mysterious incidents of the present. From behind the viewfinder of her camera, Haley observes it all, including Tank Lassiter, the bear biologist who has been forced to lead Kipp and his team into the Alaskan backcountry. As she watches him with his work, she feels a growing attraction. It will take great courage and faith to confront the truth she once ran away from. Before it's over, Haley may be viewing herself from an entirely new angle.
