Beautiful Story of Redemption, Love 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What a wonderful book. I've now read three of Martin's books and love each one more than the one before. His tales are crafted in such a way that you feel the characters' pain, joy, hope and sorrow. Chasing Fireflies is a love story on so many levels. But is also a story of greed, mistrust, misplaced trust, sorrow and happiness. It's one of those books that gives you a warm feeling; a feeling of hope for the hopeless and love for the unloved. I believe this one was even better than When Crickets Cry--and I really liked that one! Charles Martin is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

Editorial Review:

They have one summer to find what was lost long ago.

"Never settle for less than the truth," she told him. But when you don't even know your real name, the truth gets a little complicated. It can nestle so close to home it's hard to see. It can even flourish inside a lie. And as Chase Walker discovered, learning the truth about who you are can be as elusive--and as magical--as chasing fireflies on a summer night. A haunting story about fishing, baseball, home cooking, and other matters of life and death.

Slow......Again 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Ok the first book was good, the second slow, the third one picked up for me and now, I'm having hell (pardon) getting thru this one. Last book we spent a lot of time trying to figure out where Buck and Rayford were and now we are looking for Chloe and Amanda. I think it's becoming a bit repetitive, but hopefully it speeds up again.

Editorial Review:

7 cassettes/11.25 hours (UNABRIDGED)

Great earthquakes have rocked the earth, killing millions of people and leaving widespread devastation. As world leader Nicolae Carpathia sends out his forces to restore order, pilot Rayford Steele finds it increasingly difficult to work for the man he has identified as humanity’s ultimate enemy. Steele’s thoughts are with the Tribulation Force, a ragtag group of true believers in Christ—as are the thoughts of reporter Buck Williams as he desperately searches for his wife, who disappeared in the earthquake. Through the increased despair and destruction of the Antichrist’s rise, the Tribulation Force finds strength in scriptural assurances of a great harvest of souls in the last days.

This fourth book in the best-selling Left Behind® saga is filled with spectacular visions of tribulation and faith. Richard Ferrone’s deep, thoughtful narration captures every battle in a gripping fight for spiritual truth.

Finally Picks Up Again.... 4 out of 5 stars.

Well I finally dragged thru the second book. #3 is a much more faster paced book, but I was expecting to learn more about Nicolae since this is the name of the book. It was more about the adventures of Buck, who seems to always get into stuff, but always makes it out. It is interesting to read how he does it. I am getting about sick of Chloe though, she's always nagging, whining, worrying and calling Buck at the most inappropriate times. Other than that a good read!

As the dramatic fulfillment of Biblical prophecy is unleashed upon a stunned humanity, World War III begins. Although the small band of believers called Tribulation Force has been scattered by the outbreak of war, they continue to draw strength from their faith in Christ. Still working for Nicolae Carpathia, Rayford Steele helps the believers by passing on information about the evil world leader’s devastating plans. But it soon becomes apparent that spiritual forces have an even greater use for Steele in their ongoing battle against the Antichrist.

The Left Behind series has thrilled and inspired millions of readers worldwide, and this third volume creates even more breathtaking visions of what many believe is a time close at hand. Narrator Richard Ferrone’s performance builds to a fiery climax that will leave listeners eager to continue.

Leave this false rapture teaching behind. Read Carl Olson's "Will Catholics be left behind?" Totally debunks the "Rapture" and these books.

Little Dawn in This Dark Finale 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It's been a year since the pulses started. The Branning family has been through a lot in that time. But things are finally looking up. Banks are opening on a limited basis. Even better, word has come out that the pulses have stopped. While that doesn't mean technology is back, it means things can get started.

Which is why Craig shows up. Denni's former fiancee has taken a job trying to restore the electricity in Alabama. And he's using it as an excuse to worm his way back into Denni's heart. Naturally, that's not sitting well with Mark Green, Denni's new boyfriend.

But while all this is going on, twelve year old Beth is withdrawing. After witnessing a murder, she is afraid the killer will track her down and fulfill his threat to murder her, too. Should she keep her mouth shut? Will he find her?

This is the fourth and final book in the series. It is absolutely critical you read the other three first to fully understand who these people are and there relationships.

Having said that, I was disappointed with the book. Once again, the mystery aspect gets squashed for other things. And yes, there is a lot going on here between Beth's story, the romantic triangle, and ending the power outages. But it's only the last two that are properly developed. Craig and Mark's scenes provide some much needed comic relief. And it's nice watching how things are slowing coming back to what we knew.

But it's Beth's story that really disappoints. As I already said, as a mystery it falls very flat. And the entire story tries to wrestle with some very weighty theological issues. Even though this is the longest book in the series, it just doesn't have enough time to fully develop everything. As a result, the ending was way too rushed to give the emotional resolution I needed. Honestly, if there had been another book in the series to fully play out what happened here, I would have been happier.

Fans of the series will want to read this book to find out how it all ends. And I am glad I read the series. It's just a shame that this was the weakest entry in it.

Editorial Review:

In the final book of the Restoration Series by bestselling author Terri Blackstock, the end of a global electrical blackout signals the beginning of the Branning family’s ultimate test. Murder and affairs of the heart form the backdrop for a family sifting through the lessons they have learned—and how well they have truly learned them.

She has locked up her heart, convinced that no one – including God - could love her. Four unlikely people - Alzheimer’s patients - find the cracks in Ashley’s heart and slowly help her remember.

Then comes the nightmare of September 11, which forever changes the lives of the Baxter family, causing them to remember what is important and leading them to make decisions that are both heartbreaking and hope-filled.

Great book, but left me with mixed feelings. 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have really enjoyed the writings of Ted Dekker, especially the Circle Trilogy, so I bought the Paradise series (Showdown and Saint). Both books are great, however "Saint" left me with mixed feelings. From the beginning (and through the whole book actually) it seemed too similar to the Jason Bourne trilogy with the whole assassin-with-no-memory plot. However, those who are unfamiliar with the Bourne series most likely will not be bothered by this, as even I who have read all three books soon just ignored it.
Most of the book flowed fairly well. There was plenty to guess about, and Ted keeps you trying to guess it yourself before he tells you. I personally was close in my guesses about the true identities of Carl and the Englishman, however I was not right on either of them. Ted keeps the action going well also with plenty of descriptions of training sessions with Carl and later with chase scenes, however those chase scenes once again reminded me too much of Bourne.
The ending of the book is the main part that left me with mixed feelings. The book built up so much climax that the ending was just too short. In my opinion, Carl found his real identity and power too quickly for the background that had been set up so thoroughly. Also, the final showdown just seemed too simple and Carl avoided it too easily. Also, what was with Englishman's "trump card"? It was referred to so much, then it never seemed to be used. Plus, the one possible instance I can think of it being used was the part that Carl avoided too easily.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but it had just enough drawbacks that 4 stars is the absolute most I can give it. If you have read the Circle Trilogy and/or Showdown, than I certainly recommend this book. Otherwise, it is your decision. This certaily is not Dekker's best effort, but it is still a pretty good book.

Editorial Review:

“We call you Saint.”

The name ignited a light in Carl's mind. Saint. He'd been covertly recruited for Black Ops and given his life to the most brutal kind of training any man or woman could endure. He was here because he belonged here. To the X Group.

An assassin. The most effective killer in the world. And yet . . . Carl Strople struggles to retain fleeting memories that betray an even more ominous reality. He's been told part of the truth - but not all of it.

Invasive techniques have stripped him of his identity and made him someone new - for this he is grateful. But there are some things they can't take from him. The love of a woman, unbroken loyalties to his past, the need for survival.

From the deep woods of Hungary to the streets of New York, Saint takes you on a journey of betrayal in a world of government cover-ups, political intrigue, and one man's search for the truth. In the end, that truth will be his undoing.

Just one more book in the all-encompassing, enthralling, and utterly absorbing Left Behind Series 5 out of 5 stars.

From the very first letter of the alphabet that my eyes looked upon inside this series of books, until the very last period of the very last sentence, I was hooked. Each one of these books absorbed my attention like no other book has ever done in my life. Biblically sound, theatrically entertaining, and brilliantly written, the Left Behind books will inspire you to dig into God's word and take the pieces of news from your T.V. screen and match them right smack-dab up with the prophecies of the Bible. Your hair will stand up, your heart will race, and you will find yourself helplessly caught in the suspense. Once you finish one of these books, you will desperately race to your computer screen or your local library to pick up the next one!

Indeed, the Beast is taking Possession... of Your Money 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Toward the top of this very page, the authors declare: "For some reason, I'm finding that a large percentage of people who greet us at signings, etc., and tell us they have read "all the books" actually haven't. They are largely unaware that between books 12 (Glorious Appearing) and 13 (Kingdom Come) we produced three prequels (The Rising, The Regime, and The Rapture). These need not be read before Kingdom Come (the final sequel), but if you're a Left Behind fan, you won't want to miss them.
Dr. LaHaye and I also have a new series -- fiction based on the gospels -- that began last November with John's Story: The Last Eyewitness. Late this year the second of the four titles, Mark's Story: The Gospel According to Peter will release. And, of course, we'll finish with Luke's Story and Matthew's Story. As always, I'd love to hear from you."

Indeed, they'd love to hear from you, to hear the sound of your money clinking in the cashbox of sanctimony. In addition to the Left Behind Series of 13 books, there are now audio-books (abridged and unabridged), parallel children's books (Children Left Behind!?! Have these sadists no shame?), movie versions, computer games (teaching bigotry and violence), and countless books pretentiously analyzing the novels as theology! And some people worry about Microsoft or Google accumulating too much influence! Just where is all the money going? What charity is Tim LaHaye supporting with his wealth? Bill Gates has a foundation to promote world health care. Can the false prophets account for their true profits?

Editorial Review:

The ultimate psychological thriller 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

To say that this novel is a psychological thriller is an understatement. The human psyche is deeply explored, as well as more about spiritual forces than at first glance. It's also not just a serial killer book, though that is one aspect. Abuse, fear, evil, victimization, freedom of choice, religion, triumph over evil, truth over lies, courage, and love all have a part in the whole. But the whole is definitely more than the sum of its parts.

What might happen to someone who is severely abused as a child in the name of religion? Is it possible to escape that evil, or must you succumb to it at some point in your life? Can good triumph over evil? Will it always? How much can one person endure before they break? Are demons real? Can they really overtake someone who gives them access? Don't we all have the capacity for evil inside ourselves? Dekker explores answers to these questions.

I usually preface my Dekker reviews with the disclaimer that I may be a bit too passionate when it comes to his books. I'm a huge fan and he never ceases to flabbergast me. Adam is no exception. Dekker continues to up the ante and churn out gale-force plots with gargantuan spiritual oomph. Hence my admiration. Do I have anything negative to say about this story whatsoever? Not remotely. And that's a shock if you know me. Even with Ted, I'm still nitpicky. No doubt, thriller lovers like me will find merit in this newest offering.

Ted's track record for penning chest-heaving, mind-spinning works is nothing short of uncanny. His writing has always been spot on, but I have seen his growing maturity not only in his words, but in his themes. I definitely think this is his best to date, his Circle works coming a very close second.

Do not miss this one. It deserves recognition and discussion not just for its entertainment value, but on the merit that it has the potential power to change lives.

Editorial Review:

FBI behavioral psychologist Daniel Clark has been made famous by his arguments that religion is one of society's greatest antagonists. What Daniel doesn't know is that his obsessive pursuit of a serial killer known only as "Eve" will end in his own death at Eve's hand. Twenty minutes later Daniel is resuscitated, only to be haunted by those twenty missing minutes of life. It soon becomes painfully clear that the only way to stop Eve is to recover those missing minutes by dying . . . again. What isn't nearly as clear is just how many times he will have to die to discover the truth, not only about Eve, but about himself. Daniel will have to face haunting realities about demon possession in the modern world-and reevaluate his prejudice against religion-to stop Eve.
