Enjoyable listening. 5 out of 5 stars.

Danger in the Shadows as CD audio book I bought for myself. Due to ill health I now can't read very much for very long. For someone who has been a bookworm all her life this was very difficult, but audio books have come to my rescue. Mum listens to them while she is doing housework, and my sister has them on in the car during her 40 minute commute to work, & back. Dee Henderson is a favourite author in our house & we particularly like her O'Malley Series, of which this is the prequel.
It has been abridged fairly well & Matilda Novak is a good narrator - a big plus for me where audio books are concerned! Also there is music in lots of places to give atmosphere; & sound effects - footsteps, dog barking, coffee poured, phone ringing, doorbell tone, to name a few - which help to bring the story alive. Enjoyable to listen to over & over again!

Editorial Review:

Sara's terrified. She's falling in love. And if that's not bad enough, it's with former pro football player Adam Black, a man everyone knows. That fact could cost Sara her life. Sara has been invisible, hidden away in a witness protection program from the man who kidnapped her and her sister twenty-five years ago, who caused her sister's death, and who so traumatized Sara that she blocked out the memory of his face. But Sara knows that he's still doing everything possible to find her - and finish her off before her memory returns. Her only safety is in staying invisible, but Adam won't listen, or give up on what they can have together. Soon they're both caught in a chain of events that brings Sara face to face with terror - and with the sure knowledge that only God can save her and set her free from the Danger in the Shadows.

Haley Has Guts But Maybe Not Common Sense 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Haley Farrell reappears in Decorating Schemes. Her debut was in Design On A Crime. The thing about Haley is that she has this crazy habit of walking in on dead bodies. And even though sleuths like Angela Lansbury and Sherlock Holmes seem to react to dead bodies as if it is no big thing, these creepy discoveries hit Haley hard and begin to unravel her world. Why? Because she has been a victim to violence herself. She has only recently begun to get a grip on her life again, and now it is beginning to spin out of control. Unresolved issues of the past haunt her still. And the only way to piece her life together again is to search for the answers behind this latest crime. She must discover who killed this teen girl, and she must try to find the missing baby before it is too late.

Her rivalry and attraction for Dutch and her crazy wanna-be sleuth neighbor provide humorous moments that give us a break from the delicious suspense.

The ending is great as she takes a foolish but daring risk to try to find the missing evidence.

I sometimes thought Haley was a flakey character because of some of the things she said to Dutch, but that just seemed to make her character more human.

The only thing I missed in this book is that Dutch and Haley never proclaimed their love or shared a kiss. But I am hoping that they will in the next book of the series. I am eagerly waiting for the new book to be released.

Editorial Review:

Haley Farrell's life is back on track. Cleared of any involvement in the murder of her best friend, Haley has found loyal decorating clients and has taken over a successful auction house. Life is good--even if she does have to deal with good-looking but infuriating general contractor Dutch Merrill once again. But when another body is uncovered, it's clear that the death was no accident. What's worse, Dutch is implicated. Haley realizes it's up to her to help him prove his innocence. Can she clear him of the crime--and keep herself out of danger at the same time? Immediately engaging and full of humor and heart, the second book in the Deadly Décor Mystery series continues the fun and excitement readers found in Design on a Crime. They'll be dying for more from this fun series!

A Wonderful Sequel 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Sometimes sequels don't live up to the first book, but this time Harry Kraus did a wonderful job of picking up where he left off. For The Rest of My Life continues the story of Dr. Claire McCall as she moves through her journey of self discovery. In the first book, Could I Have This Dance?, Claire learned that she is at-risk for Huntington's Disease. Claire wrestles with finding out her results and what it will do to her relationship with the man she wants to marry, but also with her career. I found her response to the disease, the testing, her father who has HD, and other conflicts true to life.

As the author of two non fiction books about Huntington's Disease and as a frequent speaker at HD conferences, I found the portrayal of the disease authentic. I like that the book focuses not only on the romance but on real- life issues and conflicts.

The Pacing was excellent and Dr. Kraus did an solid job of weaving the various story lines together to make for an engaging read. I found the characters realistic for the most part, and while I did manage to solve the mystery in one of the stories before it was revealed, I still enjoyed the way it played out.

Dr. Kraus once again did a great job at weaving faith into the novel without being heavy handed. The issues that Claire and others went through ate the same as what people are dealing with every day. This is a book I will recommend to the members of the Huntington's Disease community and others.

Carmen Leal, Author of Faces of Huntington's and Portraits of Huntington's, Choosing Joy Through Life Lessons

Editorial Review:

This riveting sequel to Could I Have This Dance? answers a question that haunted the protagonist at the end of that novel: Does Claire McCall, M.D., have the gene for Huntington's Disease, the disease that disabled her father?

Editorial Review:

Despite a narrow escape from death during her last visit to Grand-mere’s eighteenth-century villa, Chrissy de Medici returns to celebrate a quiet family Christmas, complete with the traditional food and customs of Provence. Her plan is to regain control of her struggling paper, Le Loup Garou, which she left in capable hands while she took a much-needed respite after her summer’s adventures. But when a valuable fifteenth-century illuminated prayer book disappears from Grand-mere’s room and her uncle’s body is found dead in the orange grove, Chrissy is thrown into solving the mysteries. Hoping to vindicate the de Medici name and get the "scoop" for her paper, Chrissy joins forces with her irrepressible Grand-mere and medieval manuscript expert, Sister Felicity, visiting from Scholastica Abbey on Cape Cod. Claude Bizzard, the inspector from Paris who saved Chrissy’s life once before, will be hard pressed to match the energy and expertise of this trio - but Chrissy can’t shake the feeling that he might be another kind of match for her. Can Chrissy balance solving the mysteries, saving her paper and smoothing strained family relations without missing the joy of Christmas?

Gripping, powerful! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This was great! Alton Gansky is right up there with the greats, Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, and so on. What made this a plus book for me was, I love submarine stuff! Right on, brother!

Join retired Naval Captain, J.D. Stanton as he is called to investigate what looks to be a ghost ship. And it is a WWII sub at that! I like the demeanor of Stanton throughout the entire book. He's cool, calm under pressure, and collected. And he is most certainly a leader.

On the other side of things is a German with his own agenda who believes in neo-nazism. This book is about a quest for power and a test of one's faith. Lt. Donna Wilcox plays a very important role in this work by Gansky, and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into his stuff.

On a closing note, I loved the verse that really hit home, it is an oldie, but goodie. "Greater is He that is in me, that him that is in the world!" AMEN! I can't wait to read more by Alton Gansky!! Atta-boy!

Intriguing Novel of Suspense 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Come along with Mark as he invites you to travel with Abby Sherman around the world. Well written, I couldn't put down this book because there are surprises every step of the way in her quest to obey her Creator. With strong support and understanding of who she is, her helpers guide the teenager into a deep supernatural world where she discovers gifts beyond her wildest imagination. She learns of an ancient linage that will always be despite her enemies best efforts to distinguish the lineage.

Mark is predictable in writing page turning supernatural adventure, this is no exception.

An adrenaline-charged supernatural thriller from the author of The Assignment! Two lives collide in a globe-circling adventure involving both peril and discovery: Abby, a young woman whose visions of heaven turn her into a Web-celebrity; and Dylan, a troubled young man sent by an ancient foe to silence her. From California beachfronts to Nigerian rain forests to Jerusalem and back again, The Watchers is a high-octane blend of action, mystery, and spiritual battle spanning centuries.

It's no secret...this is a great book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The story centers around Amy Graham (Cassidy's best friend from Lethel Deception) and Micah McKnight (Gabe's best friend and fellow SEAL from Lethel Deception). Amy's mother was the villian that set Micah up to be killed along with many other SEALS. He is pulled from an explosion/fire and was in a coma for 11 months. Amy was compelled to return to the jungle and help the orphans as a way to make amends for the awful things her mother had done.

While she is helping out there she is also helping "Juan" recover. Juan doesn't remember who he is or anything about his life. They are drawn to each other and soon Amy realizes that it's Micah McKnight who was thought dead.

Several attempts are made on his life. Who is trying to kill him and why? How does Amy tell him who he is without also telling him that it was her mother who set him up? Will he hate her once he finds out?

This story kept me turning pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and recommend this to anyone who likes Dee Henderson. You can read it as a stand alone but it's a much fuller story when you read Lethel Deception first.

Looking forward to Holiday Illusion!

Editorial Review:

The amnesiac patient in the makeshift Amazon hospital looks familiar to visiting American nurse Amy Graham. This isn't the first time she's seen those blue-gray eyes, the hard lines of his handsome face. When Amy sees his birthmark, she knows exactly who he is: Micah McKnight, the presumed-dead Navy SEAL. Her best friend's brother. The man her own mother set up to die.

Amy can't bear to tell him the dangerous truth about his hidden past. But her secrets are about to explode, because now someone is after them both.

Excellent!! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

It was only supposed to be part of a routine ride along, an opportunity to improve relations between the police department and social services. Instead, Officer Dallas Brooks and social worker Kira Matthews find themselves at the home of a domestic dispute where things are much worse than they appear. What happens when Kira gets caught in the crossfire? Kira and Dallas will have to work together in order to protect two children as well as a whole town from the consequences of drug dealing.

I usually avoid books with social workers and probably would have skipped this one if I hadn't bought all of the January 2008 Love Inspired Suspense books. However, having said that, let me say that GUARDIAN OF JUSTICE truly highlights some of the dangers social workers face on a daily basis.

Through the eyes of Kira, readers get a glimpse of just how unappreciated the profession of a social worker really is. As a social worker myself, I would know. We walk into homes, unescorted and alone, without any advance knowledge of what goes on behind those doors. We take chances for usually such a pittance of a salary that others look askance at us as to why we bother. GUARDIAN OF JUSTICE reminds me of why we do "bother".

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is also discussed very sensitively in GUARDIAN OF JUSTICE. Dallas and Kira have very different experiences, but the effects are the same regardless. PTSD is often associated with war veterans and it was good to see an author tackle this issue in a setting that readers can relate to.

Thank you, Carol Steward, for putting the profession of social work in such a true to life context, while writing one fantastic book! GUARDIAN OF JUSTICE provides a glimpse of life on the front lines of social services while also showing the value of faith. This was my first time ever reading a book by Carol Steward but I will certainly be reading more from her!

Editorial Review:

Tiny Antelope Springs, Colorado, had provided a place for police officer Dallas Brooks to forget about the big-city trauma that had almost destroyed him three years ago. Now drug dealers threatened to take over his small town, targeting the schools and ripping apart families. Suddenly Dallas was back in the fray. He vowed to just do his job, not get emotionally involved. But beautiful social worker Kira Matthews was right beside him, putting her heart on the line, asking him to care about people again--asking him to care about her. Pretending he didn't was his toughest fight yet.
