God's Faithfulness 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is a wonderful nonfiction that displays God's awesome faithfulness and presence through the continued story of The Baxter Family. I was so taken that I could hardly put the book down and I'm eager to begin the Sunrise Series. These books are encouraging in my life as well, reminding me of God's promises and truths in my own life. Thank you for encouraging me in my walk with Christ!

Can't put them down 5 out of 5 stars.

A friend got me started on Karen's books. Now I have read almost all of her books. When I start one, I find it very hard to put it down - I just want to keep reading to the end. All the books in this series and her other series' are great. I can't wait to find out what will happen to the Baxter family next.

The Power of Thr3e 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book. It is suspenseful, action packed, frightening, and has more twists than a bread tie.
Kevin Parson receives a phone call on his cellphone and is instructed by the caller, a man named Slater, to either confess his sins to the world within three minutes or his car will explode. Kevin doesn't know what to do. Is this a prank call? What sin is the caller talking about? Kevin decides not to take a chance and finds a somewhat deserted parking lot to pull into. He gets out of his car and screams for people to get as far away as they can. Suddenly, his car explodes.
Kevin will be receiving several such phone calls and the consequences get more ugly each time.
The story flips back and forth from Kevin's childhood to the present. We meet people from his past that will come to his aid in the present and one person from the past who will be believed to be the culprit. Just when you have the story figured out, it takes a different twist and you are left scratching you head again. The last couple of chapters are fantastic, and while I figured it out, it didn't diminish the ending.
Pick up this one and give it a try, you will love it.

Editorial Review:

Enter a world where nothing is what it seems. Where your closest friend could be your greatest enemy.  Kevin Parson is driving his car late one summer day when, suddenly, his cell phone rings. A man who identifies himself as Slater speaks in a breathy voice: You have exactly three minutes to confess your sin to the world. Refuse, and the car you're driving will blow sky high.  Kevin panics. Who would make such a call? What sin? Kevin ditches the car. Precisely three minutes later, a massive explosion sets his world on a collision course with madness.  From the #1 best-selling fiction author comes a powerful story of good, evil, and all that lies between.

A real person 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

You can read the plot and story line in the comments and reviews, so I won't get into it. The most important addition I feel I can make here is to say that this book takes a "character" from the Bible and makes her real. Too often I forget that the people in the Bible lived, and that most were "ordinary" like us. I raise them up to lofty positions in my mind. This series has given a human aspect to the lives of women who simply loved God, and it can inspire us to make a difference in our own little world.

Good Characters 3 out of 5 stars.

I liked the characters in this book. I thought they were well formed and realistic. I was a little skeptical of the emotions displayed. People seemed to easily switch from one extreme to the other in short order, but considering that this entire story is recreated from a short story in the Bible and the rest is imagination, it was well done overall.

In this second book of the Lineage of Grace series,

Francine Rivers retells the tragic yet tENDer story of Rahab

Another great story 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Lauraine Snelling's writing embraces me with the sense of home and family that everyone longs to belong to. I enjoyed reading more about Ingeborg's family and her growth in faith. Getting to know Grace was a delight as she faced the heartaches of destroyed dreams but finds a path better than she imagined. I liked hearing her perspective on others' reactions to her handicap. I missed the last book in this series and now feel I have to read it to catch up with Sophie, and I look forward to the next one about Rebecca Baard and how she works through the pain of having lost both her parents.

Editorial Review:

Eighteen-year-old Grace Knutson loves Blessing, North Dakota, and sees no reason to leave. She's more serious-minded than her twin sister, Sophie, and very sensitive to the feelings of others. In spite of her family's disapproval, Grace has always had a soft spot in her heart for Toby Valders, for she's seen the vulnerable side he keeps well hidden. Jonathan Gould, the handsome scion of a wealthy New York family, creates a flurry of anticipation and speculation when he arrives in Blessing. Jonathan's father wants him to learn the value of manual labor and to appreciate the accomplishments of those not born to wealth. Surprisingly, the "city boy" takes to farm life and actually enjoys working from dawn to dusk alongside the others. Soon he finds himself inexplicably drawn to gentle, courageous Grace.

Editorial Review:

When Anna decides it's time to leave her abusive boyfriend, she doesn't know where to turn. Rob has completely won over her parents, and the entire community, with his good looks and smooth charm. Only Anna has seen his dark side.

Desperate, she runs to the only place she's ever felt completely safe—the Amish Brenneman Bed and Breakfast, where Anna met life-long friend Katie Brenneman. The family welcomes her in, and with few questions asked allows her to stay, dressed in Plain clothing, and help around the inn.

Katie's older brother Henry is the only one who doesn't take too kindly to the intrusion. He tries to ignore Anna, knowing no good would ever come from caring for an Englisher like her. But as he gets to know Anna, he discovers her good heart and is surprised with her readiness to accept their lifestyle.

The more time Anna spends with the Amish, the more she feels she's found a true home. But how can she deny the life she left behind? And will her chance for happiness be stolen away by the man from her past?

It was pretty good... 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

After reading the 1st book in this new series, Cassidy, I was really disappointed. So, I didn't expect much from Sabrina. But it was a pleasant surprise. It was a really good story. I got to know and love the characters and right of the bat I was able to bond with them and care about them. It was a really good read and I felt like I certainly learned a lot from it and got a lot out of it. The only thing is I'm not terribly fond of the multiple unrelated conversations style of writing, but other than that, it was excellent.

Editorial Review:

From bestselling author Lori Wick comes the moving second book in the Big Sky Dreams series. Sabrina Matthews, a young prostitute in the rough frontier city of Denver, is befriended by a police officer and his wife. Because of their kindness, she listens to what they have to say about Jesus and believes in Him.

Sabrina stays with Danny and Callie until she’s ready to make a fresh start in a new town. She boards the train for the long trip to Token Creek in Montana Territory, where she meets Jeanette Fulbright and is befriended by the church family and many of the townsfolk there.

All is well until she finds herself falling for Pastor Rylan Jarvik, who has begun to care for her as well. Will she be able to tell him about her past? How will Rylan respond? A moving novel about past mistakes and forgiveness—both from God and people.

Wonderful Holiday Story 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Engaging Father Christmas is the sequel to Finding Father Christmas by author Robin Jones Gunn. While this is a short novella, it is packed full of good things and well worth the read. It is an entertaining story in which Gunn captures the spirit of Christmas and adds the themes of reconciliation and trust in God to give you a wonderful Christmas read.

I'm hoping for a third in this series for next Christmas season!

Editorial Review:

Miranda Carson can't wait to return to England for Christmas and to be with her boyfriend, Ian. She has spent a lifetime yearning for a place to call home, and she's sure Carlton Heath will be it, especially when a hinted-at engagement ring slips into the conversation.
But Miranda's high hopes for a jolly Christmas with the small circle of people she has come to love are toppled when Ian's father is hospitalized and the matriarch of the Whitcombe family withholds her blessing from Miranda. Questions run rampant in Miranda's mind about whether she really belongs in this cheery corner of the world. Then, when her true identity threatens all her relationships in unanticipated ways, Miranda is certain all is lost.
And yet . . . maybe Father Christmas has special gifts in store for her after all.

Bjorklund series continued 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The Red River story of Ingeborg Bjorklund continues with the Daughters of Blessing series. Andrew, Ingborg's second son, is a main character in this novel. After years of protecting and being best friends with Ellie since a child, their impending wedding is postponed and may never happen. This series fits right in with the other Red River books and I enjoyed reading the continuing saga of Ingborg and her family.

Editorial Review:

Return to Blessing, North Dakota, with the story of Andrew Bjorklund and Ellie Wold. After graduating in May of 1900, the two make plans to marry once the harvest is over and their new house is finished. They spend the summer working hard, and the Lord seems to shine on and in them in a special way. Everyone rejoices in their happiness. Everyone except for Toby Valders, who is determined to get even for all the drubbings he has taken from Andrew through the years. Andrew, however, has promised Ellie there will be no more fistfights. But when their new barn burns—and many of their possessions and dreams with it—Andrew throws his vows of nonviolence aside, reaping bitter consequences. Why is the life he has so looked forward to now unraveling so quickly? (Daughters of Blessing Book 1)

Why all the stars???? 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I note that there is only one other somewhat unfavorable review of this book. I'll say the one nice thing first -- Martin's writing is "pretty." When he describes something, I get a good picture of it in my head. Unfortunately, he uses lengthy descriptive passages of minor events that don't build the story line; it almost seems like filler and can be very boring. His characters are not to be believed. His story line is not believable. What happened to the mothers of these two boys? Why would the mothers give them up so easily? Where were the police when Miss Ella was beaten silly by Rex??? Where was social services when the boys were beaten silly by Rex??? Why didn't Mose beat the heck out of Rex??? Did the two boys stay in the house all the time by themselves, only visited by Miss Ella during the day? Come on. I've read several of Charles Martin's books. I'm beginning to think he had a horrible childhood because he either never mentions characters' parents in his books, or when he does, they are unbelievably abusive. Should have borrowed this one from the library. Wasn't worth the $$$$.

Editorial Review:

"Tucker, I want to tell you a secret,"

Miss Ella curled my hand into a fist and showed it to me.

"Life is a battle, but you can't fight it with your fists. You got to fight it with your heart."

An internationallly famous photographer, he has traveled the world and seen both the serious and the strange. But when his brother escapes from a mental hospital and an old girlfriend appears with her son and a black eye, Tucker is forced to return home and face the agony of his own tragic past.

Back in rural Alabama, Tucker comes to terms with the ghosts he left behind. Miss Ella Rain once loved Tuck and his brother like they were her very own. Hiring her to take care of Waverly Hall and to keep them out of sight was the only good thing their father ever did. And though Miss Ella has been gone for many years, Tuck can still hear her voice.
