This is a great read which took me back to my childhood. A reminder of a much simpler life even though difficult at times.

I've enjoyed all the Amish books I've purchased. I even have my father reading them now. They are clean, and very informative.

Editorial Review:

Still aching over his wife's death, Cody Gunner can't bear the thought of also letting go of his brother, Carl Joseph, who suffers from Down Syndrome. Cody wants his brother home, where he will be safe and cared for, not out on his own in a world that Cody knows all too well can be heartless and insecure.
So when Carl Joseph's teacher, Elle, begins championing his independence, she finds herself at odds with Cody. But even as these two battle it out, they can't deny the instinctive connection they share, and Cody faces a crisis of the heart.
What if Elle is the one woman who can teach Cody that love is still possible? If Cody can let go of his lingering anger, he might just see that sometimes the brightest hope of all lies JUST BEYOND THE CLOUDS.

I have difficulty finding time to read, but enjoy listening to audiobooks as I fold laundry. Francine Rivers's books are entertaining and set my mind on beneficial things. I would certainly recommend this series. The recording is well done and the books well written.

An EXPECTED pleasure to read 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book was wonderful.

As I was hopeful would be the case, this series is continued with the story of Sophie Broadmoor. The spunkiest of the cousins, she is constantly rebelling against her family and social norms. Since her mother's passing (a year earlier) and a father buried in grief, she has gotten worse and is able to get away with it.

This story follows the girls as they travel abroad to England. Here, Sophie falls in love with the older, sophisticated Wesley Hedrick. He travels back to America with them and things blossom.

That is really only a portion of the story. In this book we also continue catching tidbits of Fanny's tale (who is still waiting for Michael and thwarting advances created by her uncles scheming). We get to know Amanda a little better (prepare for her story in the next installment!) and really get to know Paul, the man who Sophie clashed with in the previous book.

There is much going on in this book-- alot of stories to follow. It is not an adventure but a saga all its own. Characters are WONDERFUL!!! Realistic, relatable and well developed. I truly enjoyed this book. I am eager to read the next book!!

Editorial Review:

During a trip to England, Sophie Broadmoor falls head over heels for Wesley Hedrick, a wealthy widower who promises her the world. But Sophie soon learns that Wesley's promises are nothing but words and finds herself in a very compromising situation. Why does it have to be Paul Medford, the stringent young minister who works with her father, who shows up during her worst moment? Paul is full of promises, too, and it's clear that he has feelings for Sophie. But after all she's been through, can she trust him?

An Amish Mystery full of Tragedy 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Ruth's story is the larger part of this book. Her older sister Grace is now married and part of the Amish after spending 10 years away from home. Martha is still at home, caring for her dogs and trying to get a business going. There is a little history, a little of several love stories, a little religion, and a huge amount of tragedy, suspense and mystery as bad things continue to happen to Ruth's family, the worst of which is their buggy accident which took the life of her newlywed husband. There is one twist in the end which causes this book to conclude on a sweet note. I hope there will be another book in this series.

Editorial Review:

Sit back with a warm cup of herbal tea and sink into the relaxing pleasures of a story from an Amish community, virtually insulated from the fast pace of modern life. Meet Ruth Hostettler and discover how even a cocoon of tradition cannot protect the Hostettler family from unjust evil in the world. Watch as generations of faith struggle to stand firm and one woman's dreams are put to the test

Oh so boring... 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I came to love Lori Wick about ten years ago when I first read "The Princess". I read and enjoyed many of her books after that, but lately, I've been continually disappointed. They're all the same! Predictable, boring, goody-goody, and unintelligent. I seriously feel as though I'm dumbing myself down to read them. The characters are so unrealistic...sugary sweet and unbelievably wholesome. Real Christians aren't like that 100% of the time. I prefer a more relatable character (like in "Pretense" for example). I feel like I'm experiencing deja-vu with every Lori Wick novel now. Is there no Christian "romance" writer who can tell an intelligent, thought-provoking, relatable story with complex characters and a moving plot? It doesn't have to be perfect, Lori, but it's time to explore a new formula. PLEASE!

Editorial Review:

Following the success of her recent stand–alone novel, White Chocolate Moments, bestselling author Lori Wick returns to delight readers with a new series set in the vast open places of Montana.

Token Creek, Montana Territory, 1880—Cassidy Norton is a fine seamstress who makes her living sewing for others. Amid the bustle of a busy frontier town, her life is rich. What time her business doesn’t take, her friends and church family fill. But Cassidy hasn’t always lived in Token Creek, and few people know her full story. So she struggles with a nagging unsettledness in her heart.

Cassidy’s friend Meg is married to a rancher and has a baby, something Cassidy wants for herself. But that would mean revealing the details of her life. Will Cassidy find the strength to take that risk?

Book 1 in the Big Sky Dreams series.

Book Review 5 out of 5 stars.

Great Book. Great author. I have loved every book I have read by this author. The Amish culture brings to us a sense of a family, strength, patience, hard work, strong faith, and a love. They are a great inspiration to everyone. Even though I learn their culture from reading fictional stories...I have taken away a new perspective of things and a new sense of calmness.

"Strong Amish Women" 5 stars
Going Home, On Her Own, Dear to Me, and Allison's Journey make up this 4 in 1 collection. In each story, the main character is a strong Amish woman who goes against the grain to do what is right for her family and herself.
You can easily read each book separately, but why? Wanda E. Brunstetter creates such interesting, lovable characters that you want to follow them through their journeys. I love these 4in 1 volumes by Brunstetter. They make excellent gifts for the avid reader in your life.

Editorial Review:

Enjoy the bestselling Brides of Webster County series of four novels all under one value-priced cover. This jumbo volume encases four bestselling and beloved novels by bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter. Four Missouri women struggle to fit to the expectation of their Amish community and to trust God when life hands them unexpected challenges of widowhood, parenting, careers, and dating.

Enjoyable listening. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Danger in the Shadows as CD audio book I bought for myself. Due to ill health I now can't read very much for very long. For someone who has been a bookworm all her life this was very difficult, but audio books have come to my rescue. Mum listens to them while she is doing housework, and my sister has them on in the car during her 40 minute commute to work, & back. Dee Henderson is a favourite author in our house & we particularly like her O'Malley Series, of which this is the prequel.
It has been abridged fairly well & Matilda Novak is a good narrator - a big plus for me where audio books are concerned! Also there is music in lots of places to give atmosphere; & sound effects - footsteps, dog barking, coffee poured, phone ringing, doorbell tone, to name a few - which help to bring the story alive. Enjoyable to listen to over & over again!

Read it in 1 day! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

So far I've read the first 3 in the series, and this was my favorite. I have really enjoyed the thought provoking "how would I respond to this" aspect of the series, but I especially appreciated how Blackstock didn't let Mark settle for the mess his father (and brothers) left of his life. He didn't say, "Oh well, if I'd had a better Dad, things would be different." I hear so many people whining about things in their past...focusing on what they haven't had instead of the potential they do have. I'd recommend the book purely for that reason even if it wasn't a great continuation of the series. Can't wait to read #4!

Terri Blackstock 5 out of 5 stars.

Any Terri Blackstock book (I especially love her many series) is worth reading if you like Christian mystery.
