great author and another great book 5 out of 5 stars.

John Elderigde is a man of God. He speaks clearly and relvantly in this book just like his other books. It was the perfect thing to buy.

Editorial Review:

Walking with God moves through a year in the life of John Eldredge showing and teaching what an intimate relationship with God looks like day to day.

God longs to speak. And it is our right and privilege to hear His voice. Our deepest longings could all find sufficient fulfillment in God's company. Yet, somehow, the looming discontent of most Christians is a lack of intimacy with God. Walking with God is unlike any book John has written. It moves through a year in his life showing and teaching what conversational intimacy with God can be like. It teaches readers how to make decisions aligning with God's will, understand barriers and "agreements" keeping them from the life God intends, fight spiritual battles for their own heart and for others, and much more. Ultimately, Walking with God shows readers that walking intimately with Him can be a normal part of the Christian life.

All parents of Teenagers should read this! 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a probation officer that teaches a parenting class for parents of strong-willed or out-of-control teenagers. I personally believe in this book so much that I purchase them, out-of-pocket, to give to parents who have perfect attendance in my class. This book has helped them not only with their teenagers, but also with all their relationships.

At no other time in American history have parents, teachers, and mentors been more desperate to find proven ways to reach teens. In response, best-selling author Gary Chapman presents The Five Love Languages of Teenagers. It contains practical guidance on how to discover and express the teen's primary love language- the way that he or she will best receive love. It is tangible resource for stemming the tide of violence, immorality, and despair engulfing many teens today.

Good, but not anything new 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is an apologetics volume that leans more toward the scientific. It doesn't just argue for intelligent design. It states there is a creator of every thing and every system. In reality, it is more a series of interviews with various scientific figures. Strobel interviews a professor with a PhD in molecular biology and religious studies, a proffessor with a PhD in history and philosophy and science, and a professor with a PhD in cosmology.

Strobel doesn't really write much in this book. He just lets his interviews talk, and then he cites a lot of facts. Strobel is a former journalist, so if you like to read the newspaper, this book is for you. There are also a few times when the scientists that he speaks with get a little to technical with their language, and it leaves you reaching for headache medicine.

If you've never read a book on apologetics and intelligent design, then this might be worth picking up. But honestly, Strobel doesn't cover anything new. If you're hoping to convert someone to Christianity, don't think this book will do it, even if they are in to science. Please try something more spiritual.

Editorial Review:

Lee Strobel investigates the latest scientific discoveries to see whether they form a solid basis for believing in God. Read by Lee Strobel.

Great read for all who search 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I found this book very well researched and very well written. It is not written like a textbook but it has answers to many questions that arise in a complex world where Christians, atheists and everyone in between need to try to understand one another. To live together in todays society is a challenge for those who have faith and want to hold true to it in the barrage of opinions. Thank you Mr. D'Souza for sharing your knowledge, your research and your own faith.

Editorial Review:

Today, more than ever, Christianity is under attack. In his new book, bestselling author Dinesh D'Souza takes on the leading critics of Christianity, from E. O. Wilson to Richard Dawkins. D'Souza shows that, against all expectations, Christianity is the fastest-growing religion in the world and that secularism and atheism are on the decline. This, D'Souza contends, explains the panicky efforts by atheists to discredit Christianity, exclude it from the public sphere, and indoctrinate schoolchildren in atheist doctrine masquerading as science.

Editorial Review:

In Searching for God Knows What, Donald Miller's provocative and funny new book, he shows readers that the greatest desire of every person is the desire for redemption. Every person is constantly seeking redemption (or at least the feeling of it) in his or her life, believing countless gospels that promise to fix the brokenness. Typically their pursuits include the desire for fulfilling relationships, successful careers, satisfying religious systems, status, and escape. Miller reveals how the inability to find redemption leads to chaotic relationships, self-hatred, the accumulation of meaningless material possessions, and a lack of inner peace. Readers will learn to identify in themselves and within others the universal desire for redemption. They will discover that the gospel of Jesus is the only way to find meaning in life and true redemption. Mature believers as well as seekers and new Christians will find themselves identifying with the narrative journey unfolded in the book, which is simply the pursuit of redemption.

Honest 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I am halfway through it, and so far it is, in my opinion, the most honest book ever written by a pastor . . . I am loving it!

Another great book by John Ortberg 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have now read 3 of John Ortberg's books and am also presently in a short bible study he co-wrote.

I love him.
I love his story's. What a great story teller.
I love his jokes.

One of my favorite treats is on my 2 work days, I go to lunch alone. The same restaurant....every Tuesday and Wednesday, and I read.

With John's work, I find myself laughing out loud, in the restaurant, as I savor one of his stories.

Then, in the next paragraph, he's moved my heart and I'm trying to hide my tears.

I love how He makes my Lord and Savior feel so close to me.

He knows the bible so well and he makes it so very applicable to EVERY situation I find myself in...be it a blessing or a challenge.

John is very real. There is no lecturing or 'talking down' to his reader. I guess 'authentic' is a good word for him.

This book especially reveals him as an 'every man' kind of guy.

He lays out his own doubts in this book and doesn't candy coat or defend his own issues with doubt.

I love how he interjects scripture. With out being 'preachy'

I do not lend out my Ortberg books. I've offered to...and then I never want to part with them. I am reading 'Everyone's Normal till You Get to Know them' for the second time. I highlight John's books. I make smiley faces where they make me laugh and I circle what breaks my heart.

I have overcome my Ortberg-hording by just buying his book for my friends/loved ones and even my Boss! (He's a great guy and lover of Christ.)
John is an excellent author for that new believer. All of his books are great for that friend you want to introduce to Christ. Yet someone that is more mature in their walk will be refreshed, renewed and refined in their belief.

So there you have it.

I've never felt about an author the way I do about John Ortberg.
Buy this book with confidence...you'll enjoy it and grow from it.
Better yet, save on shipping and just buy a few of his works. You'll be back for more. : )

Editorial Review:

John Ortberg demonstrates how doubt is very much a part of faith and how uncertainty can lead to trust. “The beliefs that really matter,” he writes, “are the ones that guide our behavior.” We all hope, Ortberg writes, but we cannot hope without faith, and so we must not hope for something but someone?Jesus Christ.

Not sure I would pay the full price for this again.... 1 out of 5 stars.

This book is as skewed. The statistics are skewed and the survey findings are not able to be generalized to the overall population. There was no random sampling, and so the findings were significant because they surveyed significant churches and failing church.... several times the data in the form of graphs show something totally different than what they state their findings are, which makes the skewing even more evident than usual, if they had let the data say what the data says, and not force the data to try and say what they want it to say their findings probably would be not substantial and would not need to have a book written.

Editorial Review:

The simple revolution has begun. From the design of the iPod to the uncluttered Google home page, simple ideas are changing the world.

Simple Church clearly calls for Christians to return to the simple gospel-sharing methods of Jesus. No bells or whistles required, so to speak.

Based on case studies of four hundred American churches, authors Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger prove that the process for making disciples has quite often become too complex. Simple churches are thriving, and they are doing so by taking these four ideas to heart: Clarity. Movement. Alignment. Focus.

Each idea is examined here, simply showing why it is time to simplify.

This book is Wisdom 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I think this book is amazing. The life of David was one filled with the good the bad and the ugly. Yet through it all he knew exactly who was guiding him. It is an amazing reminder to me that when my life is not exactly as I pictured or had hoped, I have the ultimate father I can turn to for exactly what I need at that moment. Max Lucado spoke to my heart, he reminded me that Christians are not weak and meak. We are warriors for God we stand against Goliath every day and understand our all powerful God will give us authority when we need it, strength when we are weak and moments to dance and laugh. Thanks for this awesome book. My prayer is peace to anyone who reads this book.

Editorial Review:

Giants. We must face them. Yet, we need not face them alone.

This profound look at the life of David digs deeply into the defeats he suffered, and the victories he won, as he faced the giants in his life. When David focused on God, giants tumbled. But when David focused on giants…he stumbled.

Goliaths still roam in our world. Debt. Disaster. Dialysis. Divorce. Deceit. Disease. Depression. These super-sized challenges swagger and strut into our lives, pilfering our sleep, embezzling our peace and robbing us of our joy. And while these giants try to dominate our lives, we know what to do! We've learned what David learned, and we do what David did. We become God focused. We pick up five stones. We make five decisions. And we take a swing.

It's not just talking to yourself with your hands in the air! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Phil Yancey writes: "If I had to answer the question, 'Why Pray?' in one sentence, it would be: 'Because Jesus did.'"

And to what end? Phil Yancey "knows that the main purpose of prayer is not to make life easier, but to know God" (Review, CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SENTINEL).

"How long, O Lord?" is another Frequently Asked Question. But prayer is not like a five-paragraph essay for your English class. Some Christians, men especially, are much too concerned about length. Jesus often asked his Twelve Disciples to bow their heads for "a WORD of prayer." But once you got him started, Jesus didn't quit. He could talk to his Father all night long. The Twelve would grow tired of listening, and fall asleep. More than once they awoke for breakfast, and Jesus was still talking.

So that's first rule of thumb: "Pray without ceasing."

The other good rule of thumb is: "Don't let anyone else overhear." Most people, when they pray to God, are not really interested in having a meaningful conversation. Usually, they just want to ask Him for stuff: Help me, Lord, to find my car keys (a boyfriend / job / rent-controlled apartment). Please, O Lord, cure my headache (lung cancer / teen acne). O Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz? (a colour TV? / a night on the town?). Sometimes, if you have enough faith, prayer actually does work.

Next tip: Roll with the punches. The Lord answers EVERY prayer: It's just that sometimes His answer is Yes, and sometimes His answer is No.

(Caveat: a fire hydrant or a Buddha statue will answer every prayer with one of the same two replies, yes or no, in roughly the same proportions, as Jesus will do. But if you pray to an idol, Jesus may kill you; so I'm with Phil Yancey on this one: Pray to Jesus, it's safer.)

Yancey freely admits that God will not heal an amputated limb, or cystic fibrosis, or pancreatic cancer. He also concedes that unless God takes a special liking to you (videlicet, Moses, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, George W. Bush), the Lord is gonna do what the Lord is gonna do. So if you need to pray, the best strategy is to figure out what God will do anyway, and to pray for that.

Example: "Dear Lord, please don't allow my boyfriend to get struck by lightning." Or: "Please, Lord, don't let a piano fall from the sky on my boss's head." Or: "Our Father who art in Heaven, please permit me to pay taxes to the government." Or: "Dear Lord, please give us sunshine for our church picnic Saturday afternoon, as forecast on the Weather Channel" (but that last one can be a little chancy).

And at bedtime, you should say: "Phew! Thanks, Lord. You're amazing!"

If your child or parent or friend has a terminal illness, it's okay to ask God, politely, for that person to be healed. Just don't pester Him if the answer is "No." Yancey explains: "When I pray for another person, I am praying for God to open my eyes so that I can see that person as God does, and then enter into the stream of love that God already directs towards that person," such as giving him a good dose of pancreatic cancer or cystic fibrosis.

Here are some ways not to pray:

* "O Lord, thousands of children die each day from malnutrition. Feed them."
* "Dear God, millions suffer from untreated disease. Heal them."
* "O Lord, will You please steer that big hurricane in some other direction than the Gulf Coast of the United States?"

God is powerful, and He can often do things that will surprise you. But don't expect Yahveh, or Jesus for that matter, to smile on overly-ambitious prayer requests. Those kinds of prayers actually annoy Him, because they fall on His ears like veiled criticism, or (worse) like begging, which--because He is holy--He cannot tolerate.

It used to be, when I talked to God, I never got half of what I asked for. But I was using the wrong system. Phil Yancey's book, PRAYER: DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?, has made a big, big difference. Ever since I read it, my prayers have scored close to 60/40. So I've got no complaints.

- L.

Editorial Review:

Philip Yancey probes the very heartbeat—the most fundamental, challenging, perplexing, and deeply rewarding aspect—of our relationship with God: prayer. What is prayer? Does it change God’s mind or ours—or both? This book is an invitation to communicate with God the Father who invites us into an eternal partnership through prayer.

An awesome book! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I am so excited about this book. So many women today just don't understand the balance we need to maintain in life as women and Christians. They are unaware of the central ground of being at the feet of Jesus all the while serving in the capacity of the world we live in. JoAnna Weaver does get it and she bears her heart in her book, "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World."

In twelve revelation and scripture packed chapters, JoAnna takes you to the core of what you need to balance it all.... a relationship with Jesus Christ.

You'll be drawn to chapters like: "Lord, Don't You Care?", Living Room Intimacy, and Balancing Work and Worship and those are just a few. I couldn't put the book down. The message is biblical, the concepts are practical, and the way it is written is very personable and you can very easily relate to her.

Editorial Review:

With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story and its creative, practical strategies, Joanna shows how all of us-Marys and Marthas alike-can draw closer to our Lord, deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.
