I am ambivalent about the whole series 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I am a bit ambivalent about this series. On the one hand I completely disagree with those reviewers that complain that this book sets bad behavioral standards. Common! If your child needs to be reminded that we do not punch friends that call us names, you are in trouble. Don't blame the book. This is something we covered early in preschool. But we all feel like doing this from time to time. So, it is easy to identify with Junie B. and laugh about her and with her. Some moral lessons of the series are neat. I liked the one about Job Day, where all kids wanted to be somebody "rich and famous", while Junie B. decided to become a janitor, because janitors save people and paint and unlock things.

However, I am somewhat concerned about the language. The language used in this book is persistently grammatically incorrect (e. g. "bited","it was very too big", "worser", "I quick run...", and worst of all "Me and my friend.."). The intention is to make Junie B. sound like a real kid, but I think Ms. Park is overdoing it a bit. In any case, i am sure that if your child reads just a few of these books it will not ruin their grammar, but if they get really hooked up on them and read the entire series, some language damage control might become necessary. In any case, my daughter seems to filter all this wrong language, and reads the words as they should be and not the way they appear...

I just wish there was a series out there, that would have nice real life stories, funny and not preachy, written in a good grammatical language.

Editorial Review:

Outrageously sassy Junie B. Jones will make young kids crave their daily dose of reading. And with this handy four-volume boxed set, whether they start with Junie B. Jones and Some Sneaky Peeky Spying or Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth, readers will laugh out loud at Junie B.'s hilarious mishaps and breathtakingly horrible grammar. Although the books should come with a caveat--Kids, don't try this syntax at home!--alert parents and teachers can use her malapropisms as learning opportunities for their impressionable charges. The set contains the first four titles in Barbara Park's extensive series (energetically illustrated by Denise Brunkus), including Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business and Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus. All are great for reading aloud. (Ages 5 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

Christopher Chase's Favorite Book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is outstanding! It is the best book I have ever read. I like it because it is gross and very funny! I give it five stars.

Not that great 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

After two or three of these books, the plot becomes dull and loses its humor. Also, I would not recommend these for children learning to read and write as they are filled with misspellings (picher for picture and shurely for surely). I don't quite get why this is supposed to be funny, but it's confusing and ultimately detrimental for my 8 year old.

Finally, parents take note: Pilkey has created a lucrative business based on potty humor and his inability to draw above a 3rd grade level. This is the junk food of the children's book industry. Many young children will find these books funny, but just as we don't allow our kids to eat candy and chips all day, these books should be limited.

Editorial Review:

"Faster than a speeding waistband... more powerful than boxer shorts..." It's Captain Underpants! Young readers will devour this fancy new boxed set of the first five paperbacks in the side-splitting, potty-humored (literally) Captain Underpants series. These books are award-winning--but really, who cares about awards when you're reading about talking toilets and the perilous plot of Professor Poopypants? The "epic" collection includes The Adventures of Captain Underpants, Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets, Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space, Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants, and Captain Underpants and the Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman. Shockingly poor quality paperback books 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Ramona is one of my favorite characters in children's literature, so I sent this collection to my niece for her birthday.

When I arrived at my brother's house, and saw the poor quality of the books I was shocked. I have never given a child a book before that was made to fall apart after one reading.

Good-bye to my fantasy of her reading it over and over or giving it to a friend!

These books are great. We got them for a co-worker who recently got a bad haircut that looked like Ramona. She remembered the books from when she was a kid. She loved reading them and feeling like a kid again. They arrived on time and and in good condition. Thanks.

We love Ramona! 5 out of 5 stars.

don't buy don't share 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I first met these Junie B. Jones books when tutoring elementary school students, They horrified me. When a book is presented to a child she assumes as she/he has every right to do, that these books are worthwhile. These books though, are filled with serious grammatical errors, poor punctuation, wrong spelling and slang. Sentence fragments abound in astonishing quantities, confusion in the correct use of parts of speech shows up repeatedly, mixing objects and subjects occurs again and again, and misspellings pop up. Stylistically also, the writing presents a poor example for young students to follow. A large proportion of the sentences commence with 'And', while the majority of paragraphs contain no more than one sentence each. The writing is choppy in a misguided effort to simplify the language, but the result of having sentence fragment after sentence fragment ends up confusing meaning. Do not use these books for children whose primary language is not English. Do not use them if you want your students of any origin to learn how to write well and read well-crafted prose. The presentation of a book to a child is a serious matter, for as you do it, the child assumes you are presenting something good, of which you and the school approve. They believe that they can safely emulate the kind of writing they read there. Excellent books throng in the market which commit none of the grammatical offenses of the Junie B. Jones books, and yet are funny and light-hearted, with delightful characters.Junie B. herself is depicted as an abusive young lady, happy to treat acquaintances and even friends and family with offensive dismissal and verbal abuse. She's never given any consequences for these behaviours. I personally do not like the example Junie B. sets, but it is the murder of the English tongue that I cannot bear. Books of this low standard are why neither Johnnie nor Junie can write.

great sticker fun for toddlers and preschoolers 5 out of 5 stars.
29 of 29 people found this review helpful.

For a recent trip we bought a large number of sticker and activity books for our toddler. These in the Sticker Stories series were very popular and helped make the trip a pleasant one.

There are seven colorful two-page spreads and one one-page picture on which to place stickers. These show various scenes from the Max & Ruby television show, including a tea party, cleaning Max's room, a visit from Louise, making a cake for Grandma and buying Grandma a birthday present. There are over 70 reusable stickers to place within these scenes, and they're labelled as to which pages they apply.

We will definitely buy more activity books from this series.

Awesome book 5 out of 5 stars.

This was a fantastic little sticker book, my three year old daughter loved being able to move Max and Ruby around and make her own story. I really like this book brings hours of entertainment.

Editorial Review:

It's a busy week for Max and Ruby: there's shopping to do, tea parties to throw, and cakes to bake for Grandma's birthday. From Monday to Sunday and every day in between, the fun never stops when you're hanging out with these two funny bunny siblings.

Editorial Review:

Comics! Puzzles! Jokes! Laffs! Flip-O-Rama! Stickers! Sound too good to be true? Captain Underpants (The Adventures of Captain Underpants: An Epic Novel, Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants, etc.) is all about making readers happy, especially in this "really cheesy" (hey, the captain said it, not me) activity book starring everyone's favorite wedgie-powered superhero and his fourth-grade creators, George and Harold. Learn how to write your very own comic book, solve word-find puzzles, find your way out of Doctor Diaper's Devastating Diaper of Doom maze, pick up a few prank tips, make flip-o-rama pictures, complete the Cafeteria Ladies' Crazy Crossword, read all about Hairy Potty, the evil nuclear waste-enhanced toilet with werewolf fangs, and so much more. The exquisitely juvenile humor and (intentionally) unsophisticated artwork will have even reluctant readers clamoring for more from the very talented and irreverent Dav Pilkey. Pass the final exam and you can send away for your P.H.D. (Pilkey Honorary Diploma), make-it-yourself graduation cap with real artificial tassels, and a membership card. All three Terrifying Name Change-O-Charts 2000 are included, as well as a sheet of full-color stickers featuring Turbo Toilet, jockey-clad Captain Underpants, and the snickering troublemakers, George and Harold. Book Review: Judy Moody & Stink - The Holly Joliday 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The flashiness quotient has been upped for the first ever team-up between Judy Moody and her younger brother Stink. How does that flashiness make itself known? Well,

Exhibit A: A holiday theme. This makes it clear that, just like Christmas, this sort of thing doesn't happen all the time.

Exhibit B: Color illustrations. A first for the Moody family. This is especially different for Judy herself, who's simple brown paper bag covers stood out precisely for their lack of a wide color palate.

Exhibit C: Sparkly cover. This would normally not be a good thing for me (just call me Glitter Magnet), but the saving grace is that it's not the rub off on your hands kind of glitter - it's a permanent, part of the paper sparkle. (Note to book cover designers: consider this technique for new glitter-applying standard?).

But enough of that - on to the story. The Holidays are nigh and the Moody children are making their Christmas wish lists. Judy's is a sprawling masterpiece that cannot be contained by standard paper, while Stink (spurred on my an unexpected visitor) has just one gift in mind - snow. Judy takes great big sisterly pleasure in telling Stink that in Virginia, there's no such thing as a white Christmas.

In the meantime, Judy and Stink take part in the annual Holiday program at their school. Judy's class puts a new spin on Christmas with a Hawaiian theme, while stink puts his own unique stamp on the event.

On the Eve of the big day, Judy and her brother place a bet on the likelihood of snow by midnight. All they have to do is stay awake to find out.

While not quite as winning as previous Judy Moody and Stink solo adventures, "The Holly Joliday" will be read eagerly by fans of the series. Some good fun.

Editorial Review:

Judy Moody is making a list and checking it twice, but all her brother, Stink, wants this year is snow. It hasn’t snowed on Christmas in Virginia in more than a hundred years, however, so what are the chances that that will change? Enter the new mailman, Mr. Jack Frost, who not only looks like a jolly old elf but also seems to know a lot about weather patterns, has a fondness for the cold, and works looooooong hours during the holiday season. Plus it’s the best time of the year, when strange packages and lots of surprises are swirling around, so isn’t it possible that Stink might get his wish? Fans who curl up with this new Moody comedy can be sure that their bellies will shake like a bowlful of jelly.

Amelia Bedelia is the BEST! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

When I was a kid, I wore Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia out! I probably couldn't tell you much about the plot, but anybody who's ever read an Amelia Bedelia book knows that it's all about her doing everything wrong! The only thing that sticks with me is the picture of Amelia stuffing the Christmas stockings with turkey stuffing, which to this day I find hilarious. I don't know what it is about this one particular story, maybe it's because it's the only Amelia Bedelia book I ever read, but I love it just the same. I my mind, it ranks up there with Charlotte's Web and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; it's just one of those funny, timeless books that fed my lifelong passion for reading and writing.

My Review of Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia 5 out of 5 stars.

I think that this is a good book for little kids. It is fun for them to read. When little kids read this they always laugh at how Amelia always makes mistakes. She always seems to do something wrong.
