disappointed/very pleased 5 out of 5 stars.

I purchased the "Ultimate Sticker Book" for my grandaughter to take with us on vacation. When I received the book I was very disappointed in your description of "ultimate" - and I thought it was quite pricey for the size - HOWEVER ..... it was the BEST sticker book I could have eer purchased. It kept her entertained for every dinner meal so we could enjoy our food! I even held off letting her complete it so we could make it through the 10 vacation days! She turned 4 on 8/2. Thank you!

Lots of cute stickers of all the princesses. My daughter has really enjoyed this sticker book.

Pretty Princesses 3 out of 5 stars.

I do believe that this item is called Disney Princess Ultimate Sticker Book because the pictures now have glitter. It does not seem to refer to an unusually large number of gowns and tiaras for the Disney ladies.

To be fair, I think it should have had something more to warrant that Ultimate tag. However, it is a toy that will keep a youngster busy for qute some time. I mean, what's more fun for a girley-girl than playing with princesses?

So, if this sounds like the kind of toy your daughter loves, then it is worth the monehy.

Editorial Review:

Enter the magical world of Disney princesses. The Disney Princess Ultimate Sticker Book will thrill young fans of animated films. Stick Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and other beloved princesses onto full-color backgrounds to create your own stories and scenes.

Dealing with Childish Obsessions 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

As a parent, I've always been drawn to children's stories where the child is so silly that it makes my own children realize where they have the same weakness. When that happens, we laugh about the silly person in the story and assure one another that we would never be so silly. Naturally, such a self-drawn lesson is more powerful than one that comes from me.

Every child becomes obsessed about certain things. This book will make good reading for them. Hopefully, they will learn by seeing themselves in the piggish mirror of Olivia.

I was especially attracted to the 12 part cartoon on the end papers of the book that show Olivia using tape to get her favorite bear to sit up. That little wordless story nicely sets the stage for the main event within.

The opening page of the book provided me with enormous chuckles. I could barely stand to leave the page. Olivia is seated on a camel in front of the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid with her toy. The caption is "One day Olivia was riding a camel in Egypt . . ." But it all turns out to be but a dream. When she awakes, her mother reminds he it's time for soccer practice that morning. The red-loving Olivia dislikes that her uniform comes in "a really unattractive green." Olivia asks her mom to make a red soccer shirt instead. Olivia's mom agrees, but Olivia finds waiting to be intolerable so she takes her toy bear out to play with the cat. Finally, the shirt is done . . . but horror of horrors, her toy is missing! She throws a fit and starts looking around. While playing the piano on the dark and stormy night, Olivia hears a noise and searches out the cause while carrying a large candelabrum. She finds her toy has been chew up by the dog, Perry! Her father appeases Olivia by offering to buy her another toy. But in the meantime, she fixed the toy and made it even more humorous than ever. Olivia swears off dog books as a result, but she eventually forgives Perry and lets him back into bed with her.

To me the strength of the story was the Olivia takes the initiative to solve the problem of her missing toy . . . and then doesn't hold a grudge. The message is that things happen, but we shouldn't take them too seriously if we can repair matters. That's a good lesson for us all.

I think this book will be even more amusing for low-key children who don't get easily upset as they see how another child might react.

I love you, Olivia!

Editorial Review:

Funny, true and ingenious, Olivia's legions of fans will not be disappointed with this new story of the funky little pig and her fierce attachment to her favourite toy. Olivia has one toy that she loves more than anything - a stuffed animal that she feeds and dresses and takes everywhere. And when he disappears, Olivia is furious! She shouts at Ian and baby William, but they plead innocence. She screams, she cries, she stomps, but is left without her toy and heartbroken. Then, one dark and stormy night, Olivia hears a noise! Candelabra in hand, she bravely creeps into her bedroom to face a huge menacing shadow on the wall, a piece of her beloved toy in its jaws!

Little more than a Madeline Christmas card from Ludwig Bemelmans 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

"Madeline's Christmas" was originally published as a special book insert in the 1956 Christmas edition of "McCall's" magazine (which is where a shorter version of "Madeline and the Gypsies" would appear a couple of years later). It is the shortest of Ludwig Bemelmans six Madeline books and the only one in which all of the pages have full color illustrations instead of those familiar ones that are predominantly yellow. The story seems at first like it might be a take off on "The Night Before Christmas," since it interjects the first four lines of that poem after beginning with the familiar recap of the old house covered with vines, the twelve girls, and Madeline's inevitable retort to the tiger at the zoo. But it turns out that everybody in the house, from Miss Clavel to a poor mouse, are in bed with cold. Everyone, of course, except for brave little Madeline.

Madeline is taking care of everybody, cleaning and cooking, and when a rug merchant shows up with 12 rugs to sell, she buys them so everybody in the house will not have to put their feet on the cold floor when they get out of bed. Without his rugs the merchant gets frozen and Madeline has to take care of him. By this point you are wondering why this is a Christmas story as opposed one where it is just snowy and cold, but it seems the merchant is also a magician and you know what that makes those rugs.

This is a minor Madeline story and while we finally get to see Madeline's parents, it does make you wonder why the twelve little girls are still at the house all covered with vines at Christmas time. But then it was never clear if Miss Clavel was running a boarding school or an orphanage or what, and I am afraid "Madeline's Christmas" only confuses things (I did a bit of research and discovered Bemelmans was working on the stories his mother told him about life in a convent school in Altotting). So this effort is a trifle all things considered and you will not really find anything inside the book as you find on the cover, with the Eiffel Tower done up like a Christmas tree.

Editorial Review:

Now children can celebrate a Parisian Christmas with Madeline, Pepito and all their friends. In this activity book, children will have hours of fun using the seventy-five reusable stickers to fly the twelve little girls on magic carpets over the banks of the Seine, decorate a Christmas tree, or tuck the girls into bed in the old house in Paris. Sixteen pages of Christmas crafts and games, including an ornament to make, and the entire text of Madeline's Christmas are included. When children are done, they can simply put the stickers back on their sheets to play with Madeline and her friends year round.

Great starter! 5 out of 5 stars.

This one comes with, I think, 8 sheets of the plastic and all kinds of really cute pictures already done the right size to shrink to a perfect size....whatever you are going to make. :) The photos are colored to give you coloring ideas. Kids love doing shrinky dinks! I bought this to let the girls at my daughters 6th birthday make some keepsake creations. All kinds of ideas in this book too!

ongoing fun for kids from ages 5 to at least 12 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book/kit a few years ago, very excited to share with my daughters something that I played with as a kid. The book comes with about 8 sheets of special shrink plastic. You will need ordinary colored pencils and it would be great to have a Sharpie, preferably a fine point one, and a pair of small scissors, as well as an oven and cookie sheet. The book is full of small color images; the kids trace an image with a Sharpie or black colored pencil, color it in with colored pencils, cut it out carefully (parents might want to help ages 7 and under) and bake it. The plastic shrinks, which is great fun for the kids to watch through the oven door. The plastic curls up at first and you're SURE it won't work but it does! If you want a hole make sure you punch it with a hole punch BEFORE you bake; otherwise it's too late.

Editorial Review:

Shrinky Dinks is amazing shrinkable plastic. Draw or trace a design on it, color it, cut it out, stick it in the oven and -- presto! -- your creation shrinks to nearly half its original size. You get six sheets of Shrinky Dink in this book, along with a mind-boggling collection of ready-to-trace, ready-to-color, ready-to-shrink artwork.

Beautiful Art - Fun For Kids 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Walter Wick books are a favorite of my 5-year old, and this one is a favorite of mine. The photos are absolutely beautiful and full of Christmas spirit. Although kids love the repetition of finding the same things over and over in hidden picture books, adults can get tired of it fast enough. But the photos in this book hold your attention like a coffee-table art book, making it a pleasure to find five Santas in the Gingerbread house for the umpteenth time.

Editorial Review:

The first photograph, "The Night Before Christmas," features a gingerbread house, Christmas cookies, candles, bulbs, and more. "Visions of Sugarplums" is an abstract composition of Christmas confections; and "Such a Clatter!" is a dynamic explosion of objects. In "It Must Be Saint Nick," Santa is shown in shadow; and in "A Bundle of Toys," the presents in Santa's sack are revealed as a magnificent jumble. The final photograph, "Happy Christmas to All" is a beautiful, pastoral landscape, lustrous under new-fallen snow. The original poem is printed on the endpapers. Can You See What

Klutz Window Art craft book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book along with the twizzle art book for my niece who is eleven. She couldn't put it down. She is somewhat of a tomboy and loves to craft. I was trying to find something other than jewelry or purse or bracelet type crafts. She loved both books very much.

Great gift 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My daughter recieved this as a gift when she turned 4 or 5. It is a wonderful gift for ages 4 and up. At the younger ages it helps if an adult does the outline, but it is easy to use and unlike most art projects you can use it forever if you buy new paint. It is now our favorite birthday gift!

Editorial Review:

Trace. Squirt. Peel. Stick. Making beautiful works of Window Art couldn't be easier. Twenty different illustrators created more than a hundred pieces of easy to trace art. Window Art features a new pallet of great colors including two with sparkly glitter and large scale projects incorporating small pieces that can turn even a sliding glass door into a window art masterpiece. It's simple. It's satisfying. And with glowing results, what more could you want?

A Feel-Good Event 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is my favorite childhood book EVER! I have it stashed in my bookcase and when ever I feel nastalgic or sentimental I open up its worn pages and let the happiness seep through me. The truth and pureness in this children's novel will bring tears to your eyes. Read this book to your children and you will get constant: "Oh, what happens next?" and/or "Don't stop reading NOW, I have to know the next part!" I love this book, it will warm your heart and the illustrations are sweet, too. Thank you mom for reading this book to me, it was a real experience. :)

Editorial Review:

Nursery magic is very strange and wonderful, and only those playthings that are old and wise and experienced like the Skin Horse understand all about it.

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real. It doesn't happen all at once. You become. It takes a long time. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Great Book for Tots 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My son LOVED this book when he was about 2. It was a favorite and I read it to him too many times to count for a couple of years. I like to give this book as a gift. My godson (20 months) "reads" it every day. He loves to open the flaps and count. And of course, he's a huge Elmo fan. Highly recommended!

Beautiful book! Needs adult help. 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a wonderful book and my granddaughter loves it. I had to open all the tabs first as they are really stuck to the page and have to be pried open. If you let a toddler do this they will tear every tab and it will be difficult for them to even find the tabs. Any child into Sesame Street and who isn't will love this book!

Editorial Review:

Illustrated in full color. Turn playtime into learning time with lovable Sesame Street Muppet Elmo and the biggest flap book ever!  Toddlers can lift alphabet blocks to find a word beginning with each letter, open doors and windows on Sesame Street to count objects from one to ten, lift flaps that reveal opposites, and help Elmo find his teddy!  More than 60 sturdy flaps--10 to 26 per spread--are part of the page, not glued on, and are made to stand up to the repeated wear and tear kids are sure to inflict with lots of lifting, looking, seeking, finding, and fun!

Two boys' review: Hollywoodesque and distracting illustrations 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The 5-star reviews for this book ignore the fact that Jan Brett's illustrations are Hollywoodesque and distracting from the classic poem itself. Betraying the golden rule -- If it isn't broken, don't fix it -- Brett inserts in to additional characters. Nearly a third of the book features two unnamed elves who play with the toys and generally cause havoc on the roof as Santa fills the stockings.

Instead of enhancing Clement Moore's poem, the illustrations scream for attention. The effect drowns out the lyrical quality of this classic story. Often on facing pages you are bombarded with two full-page illustrations bookended by six additional panels, three on each side. Your eyes can only skip and stutter across the pages or risk losing any semblance of a storyteller's cadence.

This book was especially disappointing because earlier during that same bedtime reading session we enjoyed Christmas Magic by Sue Stainton and illustrated by Eva Melhuish. That book is an excellent example of how the marriage of story and illustrations can work magic for children.

I wrote a 5-star review for a beautiful version of Clement Moore's The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Douglas W. Gorsline and recommend you buy that book instead. Don't give up hunting for an out-of-print copy, if necessary. Gorsline's illustrations are heartwarming and true to the original poem.

Editorial Review:

This unique coloring book version of the Yuletide classic offers 30 appealing illustrations with a twist: the narrator is a cat, and St. Nick is a roly-poly bear. Each well-known line of the original poem appears here, along with endearing, ready-to-color pictures. 30 full-page black-and-white illus. Complete poem text.

Lovely book for beginners, highly collectable for foodies. 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This is a great little cookbook for little girls. All the ingredients are simple and accessable with results that are not only yummy but appealing to look at. The pleasing result is what will hook a child.

I have seen some critics complain that Beery's cookbook's for children are too simplistic and is taken up by too many pictures. Hello! It's a book for children. The picture is what will inspire them to make it. And they will have fun while they create these nifty little fantasy theme treats.

This book is a marvelous gift, My niece loved hers even though her only prior interest in food was eating it. Highly recomended as a starter cookbook. And frankly it is so cute I plan to get a copy to add to my general cookbook collection.
