Rutgers University Project on Economics and Children 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Gail Gibbons has done it again, this time providing an interesting and substantive contribution to children's non-fiction literature that focuses on corn. The central theme of the book revolves around the four main types of corn (sweet corn, popcorn, flint corn, and dent corn) and how people have put them to use as food sources, animal feeds, fuel, and as additives to other products we do not commonly associate with corn. The book also informs readers of the long history behind corn cultivation, the machines that are used to plant and harvest corn, and the process underlying the growth and pollination of corn. Corn gives teachers and parents a new option for teaching children about natural resources and capital resources. Kids who may not think twice about food items they eat almost every day are bound to learn something new and exciting.

Editorial Review:

Perennial nonfiction favourite Gail Gibbons turns her spotlight on corn. Popcorn, corn on the cob, corn dogs, cornflakes--corn is used in many children's favorite foods. This book offers a cornucopia of information about the history of corn as well as details concerning planting, cultivation, harvesting, and its many uses.

A book packed with curriculum ideas! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This book has been around for a long time, but it continues to be a favorite in my classroom. It's one of those simple books that sparks so many different curriculum paths! Counting, number groupings, nutrition, cooperation, family activities, word choices, story writing, and more. It has also initiated collage art projects, quilt making, and paper mache vegetables! FEAST FOR 10 is a goldmine. I see that it's coming out in a board book soon, too. We have both the hardcover and several paperbacks in my class.

Feast For 10 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

A sweet 1-10 counting book that has a nice rhyme scheme and builds its story by counting to ten, not once, but twice. The art designs feature a black extended family, however, this is not central to the story. What is emphasized is the feeling of family warmth and cooperation throughout as everyone pitches in to create the feast for ten. Children can also count the items in each picture that correspond to the poem. Well done.

Editorial Review:

A counting book that features an African-American family shopping for food, preparing dinner, and sitting down to eat. Lively read-aloud text.

Throughout the book you see everyone working like mad to get the manor ready in time. The pcitures are full of fascinating details of the lives of medieval people, nobles and commoners alike. Delightful little book 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter received this book as a gift on her 1st birthday. She is half Indian, half Welsh- how exciting for her to have a board book about Indian foods for her book collection! I didn't even know such books existed. What a pleasant surprise. The book is well done- great illustrations and funny. Would love to see more books for children about the Indian culture.

can i give it 7 stars? THIS IS OUR FAVE SERIES! 5 out of 5 stars.

i can't write in all caps, but this series of baby books from amy wilson sanger are our absolute favorite. i have all 7, and give them as gifts to lucky friends. so funny, so cute, so creative and a great way to learn about world foods, really. my older daughter likes to read the dessert sections to our baby and we have even experimented with some of the foods. A MUST HAVE FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES!

Editorial Review:

The 7th book in Tricycle's WORLD SNACKS series introduces toddlers to Indian snack foods known as chaat. Scrumptious treats like bhel puri (rice puff salad), tandoori chicken, and sweet coconut cham-cham, look good enough to eat in Wilson Sanger's gorgeous collage art, while her trademark bouncy text will please little ears.

Play Time (Sign About) 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is awesome! My two year old is hearing impaired and I ordered most of the books in this series. I am impressed with the the way the author and illustrators have put this book together. It is the easiest book I have found to teach not only myself and my daughter sign, but also for my other school aged children to learn as well. I highly reccommend this book for anyone who wishes to learn sign.

good book 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

this book is one of my daughter's favorite signing books. it covers the basics well. the images seem to be appealing to my daughter who has had this book since she was 12 months old. She is now 18 months old. Even though she knows all the signs in the book, she likes to pull it out so she can "read"/sign it to me. It makes her proud that she can "read" a book on her own. Some signs can be a bit confusing although there is an image and directions for making the sign. However, if you are simply trying to communicate with your child it will help you develope a sign that you can both understand.

Editorial Review:

Teen celebrity cooking sensation Sam Stern reinvents the term "fast food" — thanks to these quick-and-tasty recipes that entice kids to cook for themselves.

British teen Sam Stern is a great cook, and he’s on a mission to get everyone else doing it. Now that his COOKING UP A STORM has stirred up a storm of attention, he’s offering REAL FOOD, REAL FAST to lure all those time-pressured teens away from their fast-food fixes. Once again, with his engaging conversational tone — and the help of his friends — Sam breezily runs through dozens of recipes, using real ingredients and simple techniques. But what makes these dishes a cinch for even cooking-resistant kids are the cool tabs that indicate preparation times of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 minutes. Brilliant!

Great Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I am using this cookbook to give to families that have children with diabetes. I chose this cookbook because the recipes are not long and involved and do not use specialty ingredients. The recipes are short, nutritious and each is followed by nutritional data. It makes it very easy for the children to count their carbs! Great cookbook! Leah M., RN

Editorial Review:

When children come home from school or sports, they want a snack. Not some gourmet meal, just something simple and tasty and quick to fix. For those with diabetes, these snacks can be especially hard to come by. And with incidence rates rising sharply — one in three American children born in the last five years is expected to become diabetic — it’s a problem more and more families are facing. This book offers a happy solution, with 130 recipes for the types of things youngsters really like to eat that are also healthy and help them stay within diabetic guidelines. It contains a wide array of choices for every meal of the day and to satisfy every hunger pang in between, with healthy renditions of favorites like Pizza Puffs, Chicken Nuggets, Taco Salad, Turkey Quesadillas, Puffy German Pancakes, Strawberry Sundae, Mini Chocolate Cupcakes, and many more.

A fun idea...
Princess Tea Parties was written for little girls, but big girls will be much more interested. I remember as a child, playing tea party. I would line up my dolls, and we would have pretend tea and scones.
While I love this book, this is just not a child's book. This book will appeal to mothers and grandmothers who would enjoy throwing a real tea party for their child or for their own friends. I can think of many uses for this book. I envision a tea party fundraiser. A tea party wedding shower would be another great idea. This tiny book has information about tea, decorating ideas, and menu ideas.

Editorial Review:

Endearing and always cheerful, Michal Sparks’ watercolors bring six princess tea parties to life. Through this brightly illustrated, charming tea book, little princesses (ages 3 to 8) first learn how to make a proper cup of tea and serve it to their subjects. They then discover a bit about the history of tea before reading further and exploring each enchanting tea party.

The young majesties will take delight in preparing

  • a Royal Princess Tea and Princess Tea for Two
  • a Fairy–Tale Princess Tea and a Sweetheart Princess Sleepytime Tea
  • a Flower Princess Tea and Princess Plum Blossom Tea

Whichever they choose, everything they need is presented through extra simple, easy–to–follow instructions: fancy invitations, creative crafts, delightful decorations for the home and the tea table, mouthwatering menus, and grand games. All will inspire giggles and great fun time and time again!

My six year old son couldn't wait to get started making gingerbread from this book. He assembled all equipment needed from the photos provided for each recipe. I've looked at other children's cookbooks and this is above the others in being extremely well thought out in every detail. We haven't tried any other recipes yet but can't wait to!!!

I have order this book for my grand children for Christmas, over a month I have written emails to the seller to Amazon.com and they don't give me credit for yet.
I never received the book at all, now they are asking for SKU it is no SKU in Amazon.com order. Will never order any books from them.
Think twice before you do what I did, my grand kids are upset because they really wanted this book.
