eh.... 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is just okay. The pictures are cute and vivid which I like, but it's very simplistic and VERY short. My kids (3 years and 18 months) just aren't all that excited by it. It's a fine book, but I'm surprised by all the 5 star ratings. Expectations were set a bit high, I guess.

Editorial Review:

Nina Laden's illustrations in this simple, rhyming board book are truly magical. The format is straightforward: on alternating two-page spreads, the words "Peek a" are repeated, opposite an illustrated page with a die-cut hole, behind which lurks a cow ("MOO!"), a green ghost ("BOO!"), and a mirror (you guessed it, "YOU!"). The youngest readers will delight in trying to guess who--or what--is peeking through the window, and can easily grip the baby-fist-size holes to turn the pages for the answers. The picture of the "ZOO!" is fabulous. Through the hole, all that can be seen is a wild pattern of colors, stripes, and spots. Turn the page, and find a wild kingdom of animals, one in front of the other: peacock, zebra, penguin, cheetah, elephant, and more. Ready for more peekaboo fun? Try Nina Laden's Ready, Set, Go! . Simple funny Jokes 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great beginners knock, Knock book. My daughter is a beginner reader, and enjoyed this book very much.

Knock Knock Jokes for 5 year olds 4 out of 5 stars.

My son loves this book. He gets so much satisfaction out of making people laugh - it makes him laugh and feel good too!

Funny jokes for 4-6 year olds 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My older niece, 6 turning 7, is a serious sort so I wanted to get her joke books for her birthday. Her sister is 3 years.

I checked out a bunch of books from the library and online reviews of those and other books.

Of all I looked at, this one is funny, cute and endearing. The girls think it's hilarious. The pictures are very sweet and add to the jokes for non-readers.

It's missing the tacky qualities of many, many kids books of being so-so jokes, or not so nice jokes, or too scary for little people, or needing whole concept explanations to make sense.

It's got flap pages that you open to see the punchline of the joke. It's for a little younger than most joke books (which would be best for age 7 and up). This was one of the very few good for 4 and up, but actually funny jokes. Many are based on people's names which they didn't know, so on first pass there was some explaining to do, for instance that Duane is a name...but at least I didn't have to explain about Dracula and blood for them to understand.

As other reviewers have commented, it is a small number (10) of jokes, they are mostly name-based (not all), and it's in physical style of a younger age book with thicker pages, bright colored straight forward drawings (see front cover), and flaps.

If you get it - enjoy!

Pull back the flaps and find out each hilarious punch line in this classic collection of knock-knock jokes!

Perfect for bedtime 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This is a wonderful book that my nine-month-old has enjoyed since we received it as a gift when he was 2 months old. I don't understand the other reviews that say "it isn't much of a story". "Sweet Dreams", as the title implies, is a bedtime book. And it is perfect for that. Short, simple, engaging but not exciting, it is oh-so-soft and very comforting. My son loves it. He touches each animal ("kitty", "bunny", & "puppy") as we read, and I even stroke his face with the book once at the end as a final soother. It is the second of the two books we read at bedtime, the first being Baby Animals, which is a more active "Tough & Feel" book, but a good transition from active to night-night. I highly recommend Sweet Dreams for anyone looking for a comforting quiet book for bedtime reading with their baby. At nine-months, he seems far from outgrowing it; we will enjoy this book for some time to come.

An update at 13 months: still a wonderful way to go to bed. He can be teething or excited or anything other than sleepy. But when we start this book, he settles right down and gets snuggly and sleepy. After all, kitty, bunny and puppy are asleep in their beds, so it must be a good idea!

Editorial Review:

This is already one of the UK's most popular soft books and it even washes clean! Measures 15cm square.

Both my son and my daugther LOVED this book from the age of 6 months on. It keeps them in rapt attention, and my daugther loves to "knock" on the door.

Fantastic 5 out of 5 stars.

If your child loves Maisy, they will love this book! My 20 month old never tires of "looking" for Maisy under the flaps and will sit for 15-20 minutes at a time "reading" this. Even her older sister enjoys it!

My daughter's favorite book since she is 11 months old 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My daughter is now 17 months old, ever since she started being interested in books (as early as 11 months) she has always loved this one. She gets more and more excited as we get closer to the end and she loves looking behind the door. I noticed all the little kids at the daycare also just stopped whatever they were doing when I read this book to them once. The best 'Peek-a-boo' type book we've seen.

Editorial Review:

Maisy mavens will love to look for her in WHERE IS MAISY?, a happy lift-the-flap board book adventure from award-winning author-illustrator Lucy Cousins.

My 20 month old loves this book and the flaps and pages are extra durable for her!

Great Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this for my two year olds birthday. She loves it. She loves Abby Cadabby and all of the Sesame Street friends, so it was a hit. This book is sturdy and withstands a two year old and her 4 year old brother.

Editorial Review:

Five favorite nursery rhyme charactes are waiting for kids to "guess who" in this fun engaging book. Kids will love helping Abby Cadabby figure out who is hiding behind each of the flaps using the clues in the story. Little Bo-Peep, Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet, and Old King Cole are all waiting to be discovered. A surprise pop-up on the last age adds to the charm of this delightful book.

No matter how old you are, Madlibs are hilarious. My husband & I love to play these Madlibs to relax after a long hard day...we both remember them from our Childhood. The best thing is that you can work on a madlib book and then put it away for a few months and do them all again with different equally hilarious results.

Sometimes they are more funny with more creative, perhaps more taboo words...

Be your own comedy writer! From the creators of the Original Mad Libs®, Goofy Mad Libs® will help keep you in touch with the funny side of life.

The idea is simple. Someone asks for a part of speech: a verb, a noun, an adjective, or an adverb. We've included definitions and examples of the parts of speech in case you've forgotten. Players call out their ideas to fill in the blanks and in the end, you have a story reeling from one silly sentence to another until nothing makes sense. That's what you call a Mad Lib®, the world's greatest word game. Players have been howling with friends or laughing all to themselves for over 35 years!

Jumanji and Zathura are Great Together 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Jumanji and Zathura are exciting books. Jumanji and Zathura go go together well. They are both exciting. In Jumanji a boy and a girl find a game and play. When they are done they put it back where they found it. Then two boys take the game. They think Jumanji looks boring, but tucked inside the Jumanji box they find Zathura. Then there is a lot of action. These two books are awesome! I highly recommend them to kids of all ages. -SB

Editorial Review:

When Judy and Peter find a board game in the park, they take it home, hoping to alleviate their boredom. One live lion, an erupting volcano, and a dozen destructive monkeys later, the children are no longer bored. Their jungle adventure game has come to life! Chris Van Allsburg is a master at walking the line between fantasy and reality. His unusually sculptured drawings (familiar to the many devoted fans of the Caldecott-winning The Polar Express and The Garden of Abdul Gasazi) convey the magical transition of a normal house to an exotic jungle. Readers will tremble along with Judy and Peter, urging them to roll the dice that will plunge them from one perilous predicament into another. Jumanji, a New York Times Best Illustrated Book and winner of the 1982 Caldecott Medal, is sure to amaze and thrill even the most jaded young reader. (Ages 9 to 12)

Another great Princess Story... 4 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

As usual, Carmela has created an endearing story about the "Princess" who has exciting adventures. Do Princesses Scrape Their Knees? is catchy book with cute rhymes and adorable pictures. For kids, sometimes that's the most entertaining part of a book. The princess in the story is nice to her brother and encourages him to try new things while sometimes demonstrating and falling herself. The moral of the story is good. Keep trying and don't worry if you fail. Be a good sport about it. I liked this story almost as much as Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots? This is probably my favorite author of story books for little girls.

Editorial Review:

"When I grow up can I be sporty like you? You can do anything you set your mind to."

This is NOT your average princess! This active princess plays soccer, does yoga, falls on the ice, and scrapes her knobby knees.

This charming story, by the author of the runaway hit Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots?, helps children see that it’s okay to fall down and scrape their knees when trying something new. It’s the trying and the fun that count!

Through belly-flops and missed baskets, our princess discovers that doing your best is all that really matters—even when your little brother is tagging along.

You Can't Keep Me From Rhyming! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Max's earnest search for rhyming words, sends him through a croquet game, rainstorm and adventures with his dragon. Initially an annoyance to his brothers, Max keeps up his lines, "If my dragon isn't faster, there'll be a big disaster" until brothers Karl and Ben are contributing too. When the dragon is threatened there is only one thing to do--create another rhyme to save the day.

As a speech-language pathologist I like to offer tips to build your child's language and literacy:

What a delightful introduction to poetry and rhyme! Since the understanding of rhyme is a precursor to reading, it is important to play with rhyming words with your child. Read the rhymes to a younger child, emphasizing the changing first sound (the "f" in faster and "d" sound in disaster), and then just repeat the two words: faster, disaster. With a child 4 years old and up, create your own one-liners. Start them off with a phrase such as "I can't wait or I'll be (late)." Look at a fun illustration and create rhymes based on the pictures. Throw out a word and see how many rhyming words you and your child can generate. A first or second grader can write his own poem based on a favorite activity, imaginary friend, or object. Sometimes starting with an illustration will help generate the language.

Editorial Review:

Max is looking for words that rhyme. His dragon is in his wagon – or was, for now its tail has left a trail, which Max follows. He finds an umbrella on the ground— “Found, ground,” he says, while his older brothers mock him for believing in dragons and sitting under an umbrella when it isn’t even raining. But Max believes in possibilities—and when he can show his brothers not only a dragon in the stormy clouds but also a dinosaur, they begin to come round. When Max demonstrates the power of his rhyming words to tame the dinosaur and the dragon and make the rain come, he wins them over completely.

With amusing wordplay and beguiling illustrations, Kate Banks and Boris Kulikov celebrate language and imagination in a collaboration that is bound to be oodles of fun for everyone.

An adorable read... 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

WHOSE TOSE ARE THOSE is Jabari Asim's second board book for babies and toddlers in which the focus is on body parts. The text is playful and engaging and appeals to a child's excitement about themselves. The illustrations are the perfect complement and are bright and colorful, making them easily relatable to the words on the pages. Little girls, especially, will love the book as it clearly represents several of ther aspects, such as "the girl with the sparkling eyes and that cute button nose."

WHOSE TOES ARE THOSE is a perfect book to assist in teaching body parts and the beauty of even the simplest of things; in this case, toes. It fosters awareness of self-esteem and depictions of themselves in which children of color can recognize. From the rhyming text to the introduction of counting, this adorable book will become a favorite for children and parents alike.

This book, along with its "brother" book "Whose Knees are These" have become our favorite gifts for children in our lives. The books are fun, original, and fast page-turners. My daughter loves to do the "This little piggie" game as we read it. We also appreciate the multi-ethnic illustrations. We think that it is great for all kinds of children to have books featuring all kinds of children!
