For Kids, This Book is Great! 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

At first my seven year-old son, a devout Captain Underpants fan, was doubtful as to whether or not to get this book. He saw the so-so ratings on Amazon and didn't think he was going to enjoy it. But upon purchasing a used version of the book, he found he loved all the activities included.

Inside he found stickers, crossword puzzles, word finds, jokes, a comic: "The Bride of Harry Potty," and step-by-step instructions on how to draw the Captain Underpants characters. It runs about 96 pages, but it's chock full of fun.

Now, don't buy this expecting another Captain Underpants adventure; it's an activity book. If your child is looking for something to ease the wait for the next Captain Underpants book, give this a try.

Editorial Review:

You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll wet your pants with joy when you read Dav Pilkey's All New Captain Underpants Extra-Crunchy Book O' Fun 2. Learn how to draw your favorite characters, tell cheesy jokes, and even make your own silly Captain Underpants story. Best of all, you'll get a brand-new 56 page comic called "The Night of the Terror of the Revenge of the Curse of the Bride of Hairy Potty," featuring Captain Underpants, Super Diaper Baby, and Diaper Dog!

This was a gift for my grandson who is currently drawing everything in sight
I purchased the book to encourage him to try new ways of seeing people, and to get him to draw things other than Thomas the Tank engine. It worked

Editorial Review:

Simple, step-by-step diagrams in this "how to" book make it easy for youngsters--and would-be artists of all ages--to draw people of all shapes and sizes, engaged in a variety of activities. Simply by joining circles, ovals, rectangles, cylinders, and other shapes, beginning artists will be able to create amazing likenesses of a boy on a swing, a fireman, drummer, mailman, cowboy, a girl rollerskating, an artist, and 23 other subjects. I purchased this book for my 6 year old Grandson and he immediately loved it as did all the children at his party. In fact even the adults had a good time looking for hidden objects. Good for all ages.

a reader from Ohio 1 out of 5 stars.
10 of 14 people found this review helpful.

After reading many great reviews I purchased this book thinking it would be a useful resource for games and activities for my children. I was greatly disappointed. Almost every activity is the same, just a different variation. Most require yet another trip to a store to buy some plastic "toys" If a parent already had what the author has listed as a "well-stocked" toy room they should have no problem thinking up the games listed in this book. For any parent or caregiver with even the slightest bit of imagination this book is unnecessary. In place of this I would recommend Playful Learning from Le Leche League or any book from Bev Bos. They require more imagination and less trips to a store.

Editorial Review:

From the joy of smearing glue on paper to the screaming delight of a bubble-blowing relay, kids love to play. In fact, it's every kid's built-in tool for experiencing the world at large. A parent-friendly encyclopedia, UNPLUGGED PLAY ("A wonderful guide," says Daniel Goleman) offers hundreds and hundredsof battery-free, screen-free, chrip-and-beep-free games and fun variations that stretch the imagination, spark creativity, building strong bodies, and forge deep friendships...and keep kids busy at the table while mom or dad makes dinner.

A little complicated, but fun! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought the String Games book for my 12-year old daughter for Christmas last year and she loved it. Some of the techniques were a bit complicated, but she figured out most of them after a few months. She played with the strings so much that one of them popped (reason for the 4 stars).

Editorial Review:

New in Paper
"A collection of easy-to-learn string figures and games. Step-by-step directions accompany the clear photographs of hands manipulating strings of different colors."--School Library Journal

Everyone loves Cat's Cradle, but that's only one of many string games--and these come from a variety of cultures and countries around the world. Some are great for a single child, others are fun for a group, and all are photographed in close-ups that capture the hands in motion. Get started with simple figures like "Jacob's Ladder" and move on to "A Fishing Net" from Sierra Leone or a "Butterfly" from the Navajo. Each game includes information on the level and the loop length you'll need.

Editorial Review:

The first of three books in an exciting new series, The Book of Harry Potter Trifles, Trivias and Particularities is designed to delight and challenge Potter fans of all ages. Its nine quests, each built around a different aspect of wizardry — Hogwarts and Academia, Potions and Spells, Magical Menagerie, and others — contain questions in three skill levels: Salamander, Phoenix, and Dragon. These magical creatures increase in size, just as the questions increase in difficulty. All are associated with the element of fire, which is said to govern leadership, enthusiasm, and competitiveness, making it an ideal theme for question difficulty. An answer key at the end of each quest allows readers to check their answers by question number, with the source of the answer cited according to book and chapter number. Scattered throughout, hints and intriguing trivia tidbits, including little-known historical facts referenced in the Potter series, keep readers informed, engaged, and entertained.

Great for Adults who are still Kids at heart 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a great product for those who enjoyed doing Dot-to-Dots as a kid, but who want something a little more substantial than the typical offerings. The book has about 50 pages of great Dot-to-Dots, all of which consist of hundreds of dots. You can almost never tell what the picture is until you finish connecting the dots. I also recommend "The Greatest Dot-to-Dot Super Challenge" by the same author as well. That one has a few Dot-to-Dots with over 1000 dots per page!

Editorial Review:

The Greatest Dot-to-Dot Book in the World Book 2 is the second in a series of connect-the-dot books which stand apart because of their complexity and variety. As in Book 1, there are traditional dot-to-dots as well as unique innovations and variations for those who can count into the hundreds and follow simple instructions. Readers will appreciate the fact that you can't tell what the images are before you start as well as the playful challenges that maintain excitement throughout this book of all new puzzles. This fun and relaxing book will entertain young and old alike! Ages 8-adult.

Fun For The Whole Family! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have purchased the "I Spy" books for my daughters since they were little girls - one is now in high school and the other one is in college and they still enjoy these books. We like to have races to see who can find all of the objects first! A must have for everyone.

These are great books 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The Eye Spy books are great. They have pictures of different objects, for example a store window, and a riddle. You have to find the objects listed in the riddle.

Some of them are difficult and require some creative thinking. For example; it might say a nail and you have to remember there are nails in the wall and nails on a hand. Some you just have to have a good eye for detail. You might have to find three fish and one might be a real fish, one a button fish and one a cloud shaped like a fish.

My son who is seven enjoys these and revels in finding all fo the objects. We like to do it as a family to see if we can find every object under a set time or a race to see who can find all the objects first. Sometimes we make up our own riddles for a page and then try to find the objects.

Enjoy.

Editorial Review:

This bestselling book features a collection of favorite I Spy riddles that send readers searching 12 photographs for hidden objects.

GOOD WINTER READ FOR THE LITTLE ONES 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

My goodness! While this seems to be, overall, a very popular book, and rightfully so, it is absolutely fascinating trying to figure out just what folks want. Some of the negative reviews here whine about the quality of photography. Some grouse about the quality of the text. Some seem to have their noses bent out of shape that photographs were used rather than paintings. This just goes to show that you cannot please everyone in every way. Anyway......

I felt Stranger in the Woods was excellent! I am one of those that found this work to be absolutely delightful. I note that this book has received around 19 awards so far, and while awards are not the beginning and the end of a good book, they do give some indication that someone, somewhere likes the work. Yes, this work is made up of actual photographs of wild life. The primary feature is deer but we also have a wonderful owl, doves, muskrat, squirrel, porcupine, rabbits, chickadees, mice and a cardinal featured. There are also some of other furry and feathered critters here and there, but they seem to be "extras."

One morning the animals discover a stranger in their woods. As word goes out amongst the animals, they begin to gather and investigate. A snowman, with a carrot nose, nut eyes and seeds stashed here and there make this new stranger quite popular very quickly. I personally found the text to be quite nice, very crisp and fit perfectly with the wonderful photographs of the wildlife inhabiting this particular area of the woods.

This is a great read along for children and a wonderful picture book for them to just gaze at. I liked the way the authors have given us excellent and cute instructions on how to build one of these eatable snow men and point out what a great project this is for the little one.

I suppose a book like this is a matter of natural taste and that as parents or care givers, you should know what your children will and won't like. Personally, I liked the book and have read it to quite a number of the little crowd. I have yet to have a child that did not like the work and when all is said and done, that is what counts. I did not have one child complain about the quality of the techniques used in the photograph, nor, I might add, point out where the syntax could have been improved if this or that was done. Go figure.

Editorial Review:

Forest animals, awakened by the birds' warning that there is a stranger in the woods, set out to discover if there is danger and find, instead, a wonderful surprise.
