Great for just starting out. 4 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I grew up reading Matt Christopher books and now at the age of 20 I owe my great interest in baseball literature to him and his books. They are great for kids to get into reading about the sports they love to play and they teach great life and sport lessons espicially about humility. There will always be a place in my heart for his literature and this is probably his best book on baseball. Highly reccomended.

The book that kept me awake!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I thought this was a great book because when I had to go to bed, I was still reading an hour later! I could not put it down. I would recommend "The Kid Who Only Hit Homers" because if you're into baseball and suspense, this is the book for you.

Are You Ready For A Homerun Derby? 5 out of 5 stars.

Do you like baseball, because if you do you would like this book called The Kid Who Only Hit Homers. This book is about a kid, named Sylvester who was not very good at baseball. He could not even make his team, the Red Birds. But then he met a man at the Red Birds' practice. He sometimes watches the Red Birds practice and one day he met Mr. Baruth. Will Sylvester get better? If you like this book review is good to your nearest book store or library. My name is Brooks an I think you should read this books because it's about baseball and the author did a great job of making it interesting.

Editorial Review:

When a mysterious man promises to make him a great player, Sylvester accepts and begins a phenomenal home-run streak. Black-and-white illustrations.

This book, with its vivid, colorful pictures is a great gift for kids. Althought the verbiage might be a bit difficult to read for kids in grades K through 3, the pictures, as the saying goes, "say a thousand words."

Wish I had this book when I was a kid! 5 out of 5 stars.

Camp Out! is full of creative and informative lessons and fun activities. Truly a unique book. Any kid from video game addict to natural born scout will find this book engaging! it contains kid-level explanations without talking down to kid-level. As an adult I enjoyed reading this book and felt the cartoons weren't too cutesy. Good for both boys and girls.

Typical 3 out of 5 stars.

Some parts of this book are quite interesting in its ideas for activities. All the games described are basically hide & seek while making animal sounds. the recipes are easy and fun for kids, the packing list and common sense tips are straightforward, easy for kids to follow or read. the songs and stories are typical, been there, done that, nothing new. Illustrations are quirky and cute.
reccomend for the 1st time camper or if you want to give your kids something to read before the trip.

A must read for young ball players 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

My boys (9 and 14) have read many of Matt Christopher's books. All are good, some are great treats. I gave a copy of "The Kid Who Only Hit Homers" to each boy on my baseball team last year. They loved it! This year I am giving each player a copy of Christopher's "Great Moments." I read this collection of great moments (an unassisted triple play in the World Series for example) to my boys and enjoyed every page. We re-read some of the stories they were so much fun. This is a must read for all young/new baseball fans.

Good stuff 5 out of 5 stars.

Matt Christopher is one of the best baseball writers for young readers out there. This is another notch in his belt. Pick this up.

Courage Displayed on a baseball diamond 5 out of 5 stars.

In Great Moments In Baseball History, you can learn a lot about some of the greatest players in major league history. Matthew Christopher, the author of this book, put together his view of a 9 tremendous, and courageous pitching performances, hitting clinics, catches, and life stories in this book. Some people who are in the book are strong, courageous, have stamina, but most of all, each person has their own little characteristic different than everyone else's. Anyone who asks me about this book, all I have to tell them is that it is a great read and a wonderful grouping of stories that any true baseball fan can enjoy time and time again.
All of these stories are incredible in their own special way. For example, there is a story about a pitcher who only had one hand and he threw a no hitter against a team who had in the previous week scored 7 runs against him, he showed to everyone that he had courage. Another story describes a pitcher who had cancer and was told that he would never pitch in the majors again, and it would be considered lucky to be able to play catch in the backyard with his son. Against all odds, after just 11 short months he was back in the majors and he was pitching great. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with cancer again and had his arm removed but he is still alive and well. Finally there is my favorite story of Joe Nuxhall who pitched in his first ever major league game at the tender young age of just 15. Although he was nervous he pitched well and was signed to a contract with the Cincinnati Reds at 16 years old (he was the youngest player ever to play major league baseball).
Matthew Christopher added great little details to every story to kind of add some drama to each one. For example, he told the audience how even though Babe Ruth was old and out of shape he could still hit three homeruns in a baseball game and have fun doing so. Another example is in the story of the pitcher with cancer, Christopher added in the detail of how he "might" be able to play catch with his son in the backyard to add some drama to the already dramatic situation. There are also so great word usages in the stories and he places every one of them in the perfect spot to help the reader make sense of everything.
Great Moments In Baseball History is a great book about heart warming, funny, and enlightening stories and people. Every story is different and exciting in that one special way that you can always remember. Also the author describes everything very well and it is easy to understand every word that is being said. Finally you can learn a lot from every person in the book and a piece of their life that may reach out and touch your own life.

Editorial Review:

Capturing the suspense and play-by-play action of nine major league plays and the personalities of the athletes that made them, a fan's treasury includes Willie May's 1954 World Series catch and Jim Abbott's no-hitter.

Editorial Review:

This exciting sports almanac will tell kids everything they want and need to know about the previous year in sports (Fall '06 through Summer '07). It includes major sports (basketball, baseball, football, hockey); "secondary sports" (golf, tennis, cycling, auto racing); and action sports (BMX, snowboarding, in-line skating).

YEAR IN SPORTS 2008 is heavily illustrated with Sports Illustrated's fabulous action photos. It will also feature an all-new 16-page, four-color insert that contains photos of the year's most thrilling moments and memorable athletes.

For each sport, kids will find a list of team names (or the top players), team stats, championship game summaries (i.e., what happened in Super Bowl XXXXI or the 2007 NBA playoffs?), records and milestones, award winners (i.e., who are the Cy Young Award winners of the last 10 years?), all-time stats, past champions, "Did You Know?" questions, great moments in the sports, "Fast Facts," minibios of key personalities, and more.

This lively title offers kids quick, "cool" sports facts and isn't weighed down by lengthy blocks of texts. Just great information for sports fans of every age!

Great book for the car 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I don't understand the previous review about the designs not showing through the pages of the book. I've had two 4-year old boys using it for months without any difficulty. They have only used the plastic pattern sheets with the attached book, never with plain paper. They've all come out well. I would purchase this item again.

Didn't work that well 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

We were so excited for this book but it didn't work that well. We did rubbings using the book, patterns and crayons supplied, and could barely see the pattern come through after rubbing. The patterns work fine if you use regular white paper and crayons rubbed on their sides. But we couldn't get the pattern to come through when using the book supplied.

I love chicken socks! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

We have Hand Art and now Crayon Rubbings by Chickensocks. Both are excellent. One small drawback is that the coloring pages supplied are quickly used. However, you can rip out your own coloring book pages for these 7 plastic rubbing slates that come with this book. There are several different backgrounds (stars, swirlies, pebbles, etc.) and once your kids get a hang of it, they can really do an excellent job. However, if I want it to look as good as the cover of this book, I'd better do it myself. (-:

Editorial Review:

Create anything-but-ordinary colored pictures that pop off the page with texture, pattern and pizzazz. This book comes packaged with 8 rubbing plates with cool patterns of stars and swirls, waves and grass, stones and flowers, 5 bright glitter crayons and a six-in-one, gotta’-have-it rainbow crayon.

Best technique book on the market 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

This is the most comprehensive book on wrestling technique I've been able to find. The chapters are as such: Basic Skills; Takedowns (106 pages worth!); Escapes and Reversals; Breakdowns, Rides, and Pinning Combinations; Freestyle Turns. The emphasis seems to be on takedowns, but the other sections are good too. The only chapter that really came up short was the one on basic skills, but "Wrestling for Beginners" by Jarman and Hanley can be used to make up for that. While the pictures are in black and white, they are as clear as can be expected, and the wrestlers are always wearing different collored singlets so the reader can distinguish them. The sequences are relativley easy to follow, and the moves' counters are shown back-to-back with the countered technique. Speaking as a submission wrestler, this book definetley improved my game, and I think any martial artist with a realistic training program will find it helpful. I'd also recomend that any high-school wrestler who wants to expand his arsenal buy this book; your coach, no matter how good he is, doesn't have time to show you everything. The only real complaint I have is that some techniques are reffered to before they're shown, which was a little confusing. However, the index and table of contents can solve most of those hang-ups.

Editorial Review:

This is a guide to wrestling techniques for high school and college wrestlers and for coaches of wrestling at all levels. It provides details on the fundamentals and refinements of the following wrestling techniques: proper stance, movement and lifting; rides and pins; escapes and reversals; valuable counter moves; freestyle turns for freesyle and scholastic wrestling; takedowns featuring variations based on opponent's reaction.

Hidden Pictures Buff 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book has enlighten my nieces and nephew for they look with anticipation every night of completing a puzzle. They were so use to getting used books from the five and dime store and erasing the found missing objects and look for them again as if they never found them in the first place. Having a brand new book brings a smile to their eyes!
Only wish they were a bit cheaper.

good book 3 out of 5 stars.

Nice book. Good pictures and 'story' on each page. I thought it was nice to search for the treasure in steps and read the story as you finish each maze. My 5 year old son loves everything pirates so I ordered this for him however the mazes were a bit difficult for him but he liked the story and pictures. Great for a kid a bit older.

Editorial Review:

Thirty-five winding mazes challenge young treasure hunters as they navigate their way through haunted woods; past swamp creatures, vampire bats, bewitched dogs, falling rocks, a ghost ship, poisonous spikes, fiery lakes, deadly stone statues, and much more. Captions explain objectives; solutions appear at the end.
