ALWAYS A JOY TO READ. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

To be frank, I get a kick out of Silverstein's work. It is always a bit quirky, always takes a couple of readings to really "get," and is very entertaining while being quite insightful as to human nature. This work is no different from his other works, same quality, same odd way of looking at life, same delightful black and white drawings. Publisher's Weekly got it pretty right here, in their usual, rather snotty way, which is one of the few reviews I have ever agreed with them on. (except their little shot at some of his art that they felt may no be appropriate for kids...obviously the author of that review has never been around kids very much). This work consists of 171 pages of poetry rhymes and drawings. I first read Silverstein in Playboy magazine years and years ago when I wasted my time with such publications. I did not particularly care for him them, but over the years have developed quite a like for his work. I truely love this book and do highly recommend it.

Editorial Review:

Millie McDeevit screamed a scream
So loud it made her eyebrows steam.
She screamed so loud
Her jawbone broke,
Her tongue caught fire,
Her nostrils smoked...

Poor Screamin' Millie is just one of the unforgettable characters in this wondrous new book of poems and drawings by the creator of Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic. Here you will also meet Allison Beals and her twenty-five eels; Danny O'Dare, the dancin' bear; the Human Balloon; and Headphone Harold.

So come, wander through the Nose Garden, ride the Little Hoarse, eat in the Strange Restaurant, and let the magic of Shel Silverstein open your eyes and tickle your mind.

Scooby Stickers 4 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my niece. She absolutely loved the book due to the content but I thought there could have been more stickers included. Still, a good buy for the young fan.

Great gift! 4 out of 5 stars.

I bought this as a gift for my niece. She had it on her Amazon wishlist. She was very happy to receive this. I would have like to have known that this book was very thin. There wasn't much to it. Overall, my niece loved it.

Cute, but a little overpriced 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Definitely cute, if you are a Scooby-Doo fan like all my kids are, but the book is pretty thin---I would say 20 pages or so and for the money I'm not sure it was worth it.

Too difficult for age 4 3 out of 5 stars.

The stickers in this book were colorful and fun. Putting them in the correct spot is another story. The pages have vague shapes that resemble the shapes of the stickers. The outlines to place the shapes were too vague for my 4-year-old to place the stickers himself. There are also no realy story lines on the pages so it's not that much fun to put the stickers on the pages. Which is probably why the stickers ended up on my wall :(

The book is great for the stickers but could use some improvement to really fit the age range it's being marketed to.

Editorial Review:

See all your favorite Scooby characters in this sticker book, including Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred. There are more than 60 stickers of the Mystery Inc. gang and the ghastly ghouls they unmask. Have a hauntingly good time!

Editorial Review:

Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and children's picture book author Berkeley Breathed crafts a remarkable, hilarious, and yes, even poignant celebration of "flawed dogs": "The bent and plain,/ The unbalanced bod,/ The imperfect people/ And differently pawed." At the core of this "2004 Catalogue of the Piddleton Dog Pound's Very Available Leftovers" is Heidy Strudelberg, "Garbo, Joan of Arc, and Mother Teresa of the nation's unwanted dogs: a reclusive warrior-saint of poundpups." Breathed reveals how Heidy was ousted from the high-falutin’ vanity dog breeding world when she awarded a muddy three-legged street mutt the Westminster Best in Show ribbon. Now, it seems, Heidy has retreated to the Vermont mountains to run the Last Chance Dog Pound, where defective dogs go for one more attempt at getting adopted. The bulk of Flawed Dogs, once you've laughed your way through the introductions and formalities, is a gallery of pathetic pups with accompanying verses. A picture of an extra-long Dachshund startling the dishes right out of her mistress's hands, is captioned thus: "Here’s Sal, it seems no one wants her./ Her ends will stroll off and wander./ A long doggie weenie/ Of noisy linguine/ Sal barks at her butt way down yonder." Dog lovers will be all in a tizzy to get their hands on this crazy, wonderful salute to blemished beagles and faulty foxhounds everywhere. (Ages 8 and older) --Emilie Coulter

I AM A LARSEN JUNKIE!!! I NEED MORE!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Larsen is the world's greatest cartoonist. Too bad he retired. I have envelopes filled with his cartoons clipped out of the newspaper (10+ years ago!) that I still can't bear to throw away. So I suppose this book was a good idea. It will take up less space than several bulging envelopes.

For younger people who can't remember his cartoons in the paper every day, you need to hurry up and start collecting his books so you can always be within arm's length of a smile or a laugh.

Also, I love the story about the "Jane Goodall Cartoon"

--George Stancliffe

The best of a cartoonist genius 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

As a satirical cartoonist, Gary Larson has no peer. His biting and hilarious insights often require a great deal of thought before you get the point. If you are not familiar with the reference used to create the cartoon, it is unlikely that you will get the point.
For example, on page 42 there is a cartoon showing deer engaged in an excavation project with a mounted cowboy observing them while perched on a hill. The caption is "Where the deer and the antelope work." If you do not know about the song, "Home on the range", then you will not understand the joke. Another example on the same page shows three frogs lying among cattails holding wine bottles. The caption here is "Yeah, I remember Jerry. Good friend of mine ... You know, I never understood a single word he said, but he always had some mighty fine wine." Once again, if you are not familiar with the song "Joy to the World" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, the joke will most likely pass you by.
Gary Larson is a genius, where that quality is manifested in ways that are twisted, yet profound. This book is hilarious.

We just gave this to our 7 yr old Scooby lover for Christmas. He loved it and it was one of the things he started playing with immediately. He hasn't tried the glow in the dark part yet, I don't know if he realizes it does that.

Packed with 60 full-color, reusable, glow-in-the-dark stickers, these books have great scenes of Scooby-Doo and his meddling, mystery-solving friends.

Lacking 3 out of 5 stars.
18 of 18 people found this review helpful.

When I first received the book, I was stunned to see how thin it was compared to the X-Men version (almost twice the size). That was already a bad sign. This book is devoted to the current incarnation of the Justice League. There is a two page spread that mention the several past incarnations, but nothing more. It is a shame that the Justice League history was treated with such unimportance. No in-depth coverage of the beginnings of the league, the tragic era (with Steel, Vibe, Vixen, and Gypsy), and Justice International (with my faves Blue Beetle and Booster Gold). They could have easily taken the time and effort to present a more comprehensive history. At least feature a few more characters prominently like the Red Tornado and Black Canary instead of giving them corner blurbs. In scanning the book, there is even text missing from one of the pages.

Despite the huge disappointment on my part, I still give the book 3 stars. It still has the brilliant presentation and younger readers will be less affected by the lack of history and acknowledgement of the previous leagues. I just don't understand why this book got only half the attention in comparison to the X-Men when it could have easily been filled out more. I would be interested in seeing a revision some day that gives the Justice League the attention they deserve.

Editorial Review:

For the last 40 years, DC Comics' Justice League of America has united the most powerful superheroes -- Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Green Lantern -- against some of the most diabolical villains in comic book history. The Ultimate Visual Guide tells the history of the Justice League of America; their epic battles against awesome adversaries such as The White Martians, The Key, and Megaddon; and includes specially commissioned, spectacularly detailed artwork revealing JLA's brand-new headquarters on the moon, Wonder Woman's island home, Aquaman's undersea base, and more.

This book was awsome! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I am 9 years old and love to draw. This book tells you how to draw a lot of famous cartoons. Some of the ones I like the best are PopEye, Flintstones and Scooby Doo. If you like to draw, you will enjoy this book.

Cartoon stars 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The Lee Ames series of books are good if you already have the basics of drawing down and some minor artist skills. They show how to take your basic skills and make some neat stuff. But this book is basically 1 page to a cartoon star, and about 6 drawings on the page to get a completed look. For some simple ones it works but on others it gets a little tricky. No text instructions here, just the drawings which you are just copying. If you want to LEARN how to draw and get the basic skills first whether you are kid or an adult, the books by Jack Hamm and Ed Emberly are the best place to start. They can make anyone an artist. Then come back to books like Ames.

A barrel of laughs is what aspiring cartoonists of all ages will have while they learn to draw their favorite characters from the funny pages.

My 2.5 year old loved it 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 2.5 year old is really into puzzles and this sticker book pretty much fit the ticket. He pointed to the sticker he wanted, I helped him start the peeling process, he peeled it off, then i pointed to the spot each sticker needed to go, and he would stick the stickers to the spot. While he stuck them down, I was able to read the little excerpts alongside each sticker from the Winnie the Pooh books and teach him about the characters and objects. Very educational and fun activity to do with your child especially if you have an unruly toddler on your hands and need a breather. I couldn't believe that he was able to do so well with the book considering his age. Also, compared to other thin style sticker books i have seen it really has a lot more stickers which made the entertainment last longer than usual.

Very Nice 4 out of 5 stars.

As a first time Amazon customer I was pleased that the product purchased arrived exactly when expected. It was in good condition too. The stickers are cute and there are a lot of them. I'm not using them in the book, but as wall stickers for my Winnie the Pooh nursery.

The only TRULY good comic strip still being printed 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

With "The Great One" Charles Schultz's passing (RIP Mr. Schultz and thank you!), this leaves Garfield as the only current comic strip that remains consistantly funny. This review is a pretty universal review for all of the books. If you're a Garfield fan and you don't have them: Get them!!!

Funny! A great book in all Circumstances! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great book! It was a great buy and if you're thinking of buying it, don't hesitate! Garfield makes me laugh a lot from his attidude and his interest in all the things that people love to do.

Yet another grest Garfield masterpiece! 5 out of 5 stars.

This fat cat 3-pack (like the others) is not only entertaining to read (like the others), but it is also a great reference book of Garfield comics (like the others), because from the point the book starts to the point it ends it has every daily comic in the order they were in the newspaper without skipping any days.

Garfield - On & On 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

As always, it was pretty funny! The only thing I thought was a problem (A too common problem) was that the strips started to fade into each other, and into the strips from earlier books. All of em funny, all of em following the old formula. I guess when you've written thirty books you run a little low on ideas, so I can't really blame Jim Davis. Entertaining comic strips with everybody's favorite fat cat.
