Hey all you sports fans or mystery readers! Cover-Up is the perfect story for you! Stevie Thomas and Susan Carol Anderson are 14 years old and are the hosts on a sports update show, but Stevie got fired. Many people thought that it was cruel to fire a 14-year-old boy. Stevie is jealous of Susan Carol because she gets to go to the Super bowl. To satisfy his need for sports Stevie is hired for a week with the Washington Herald. Later, he is hired by CBS. Why did USTV ever fire him? Susan Carol is angry that they always get caught up in scandals. Soon Stevie and Susan Carol are stuck again at a major sporting event trying to solve a mystery. Will the dynamic duo save the Super bowl? Will the cheaters get caught or will they get away with it?
This is an exciting book, which you won't want to put down. This book is for teens that don't like to read. John Feinstein wrote three amazing books. This is his third amazing book.

Editorial Review:

THE SUPER BOWL. America's biggest sports spectacle. More than 95 million fans will be watching, but Steve Thomas and Susan Carol Anderson know that what they'll be watching is a lie. They know that the entire offensive line of the California Dreams have failed their doping tests and that the Dreams' owner is trying to cover up the test results. These two teens are sitting on the biggest sports scandal of the decade. What they don't know -yet - is how to prove it.

When we last left D.J. Schwenk in Dairy Queen, she was trying to cope with her family's problems, the inclusion of Brian into her life, and surviving being on the Red Bend football team. You know, when most people thought girls shouldn't be on the team.

At first it seemed like she had found solutions to all of those problems. But all good things must come to an end, whether D.J. likes it or not.

With Brian being her sort of boyfriend, D.J. is pretty ecstatic, since not only is he hot and athletic, he is her first real boyfriend. But it sort of creates a problem since D.J. isn't so sure where there relationship is heading or if it is going at all. Brian isn't too sure, either, since it seems like D.J. would rather spend time with her family then hang out with him.

Her friend, Amber, is starting to get noticed, for all the wrong reasons, though. Now known as the girl with a girlfriend, Amber is beginning to change, once again, right in front of D.J.'s eyes, all because people in their town don't approve of that kind of relationship.

D.J.'s family is beginning to resolve their relationship problems. But when they think all is well, their financial problems come into play. Not only that, but D.J. herself and her brother, Win, suffer injuries that just might put an end to what they love the most.

While trying to control all of her problems, D.J. must be able to find her strength, the one that got her through her summer and the one that helped her get on the football team.

Once again, D.J. shines as a heroine who shows that everyone has the ability to get over any obstacle thrown their way.

Editorial Review:

Life is looking up for D. J. Schwenk, star of Dairy Queen. She's made it to eleventh grade, she's reconnecting with her best friend, and she's got a thing going with Brian Nelson. But best of all, she's playing for the Red Bend High School football team—as the first female linebacker in northern Wisconsin. But then the season goes suddenly, horribly wrong: her brother Win is put into the hospital after getting a devastating injury during a game. Once again, D.J. is forced to step up and be there for her family. It's a heavy burden, even for D.J.'s strong shoulders. She'll have to dig deeper than she's ever had to before.

Editorial Review:

When November Nelson loses her boyfriend, Josh, to a pledge stunt gone horribly wrong, she thinks her life can't possibly get any worse. But Josh left something behind that will change November's life forever, and now she's faced with the biggest decision she could ever imagine. How in the world will she tell her mom? And how will Josh's parents take the news? She's never needed a friend more.

Jericho Prescott lost his best friend when he lost his cousin, Josh, and the pain is almost more than he can bear. His world becomes divided into "before" and "after" Josh's death. He finds the only way he can escape the emptiness he feels is to quit doing the things that made him happy when his cousin was alive, such as playing his beloved trumpet, and take up football, where he hopes the physical pain will suppress the emotional. But will hiding behind shoulder pads really help? And will his gridiron obsession prevent him from being there for his cousin's girlfriend when she needs him most?

This sequel to The Battle of Jericho is a no-holds-barred look at what happens when life doesn't go as planned, by the acclaimed author of the 2007 Coretta Scott King Award winner Copper Sun.

Phenomenal book 5 out of 5 stars.

Boots Raymond is a boy that want to play quarterback for his team - there's just one problem - the coach says he's too heavy to play that position. The coach assigns him to right tackle. His brother, Tom, is actually the one that encourages him to play football because he wants to quit. His brother explains that it's good to play the line because you help the quarterback make the plays. I like this book because it's very exciting, and I understand how it feels to play a position that you don't like. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves sports or who plays tackle football!

Tough to Tackle by Matt Christopher 3 out of 5 stars.

The main characters of this book are Boots Raymond,Coach Higgins, Coach Dekay, and Tony Alo. Boots is a big kid,14 years old, and loves to play football. Coach Higgins and Coach Dekay are tough coaches who really expect alot from the players. Tony is a thin, wiry boy who loves to aggravate Boots.
The plot of the story is that Boots wants to be the quarterback of the team, but he is new and the coach decides to put him on the defense. Boots keeps trying to prove himself to the coach, but Tony does everything he can to stop Boots. He tackles him harder than other kids and trys to make him mad. The coach keeps Boots on the defense until one day when the quarterback gets hurt and then he lets Boots become the quarterback for one game. Boots does a great job and this makes Tony angry. Boots gets to be the back-up quarterback for the rest of the games.
The setting of the book is in the fall during football season. It is high school football and the weather is cold.
The theme of the story is you have to work hard to get what you want; and you can't let other people stop you from your goal.
I liked this book because I like football and I liked the part when Boots gets to be the quarterback.

Editorial Review:

Assigned to play tackle instead of quarterback because of his size, Boots Raymond rebels and almost quits the team. Black-and-white illustrations.

This is an important book. I hope that all high school students have a chance to read and reflect on this moving story of a high school football star coming to terms with his sexuality, the world and his future. This book deserves to be in every high school library, including small towns where students who are struggling with their sexuality so often feel isolated and alone. In addition to being a "good read" this book will provide support and understanding for all students, parents and teachers.

Editorial Review:

Star quarterback Bobby Framingham, one of the most talented high school football players in California, knows he’s different from his teammates. They’re like brothers, but they don’t know one essential thing: Bobby is gay. Can he still be one of the guys and be honest about who he is? When he’s outed against his will by a student reporter, Bobby must find a way to earn back his teammates’ trust and accept that his path to success might be more public, and more difficult, than he’d hoped. An affecting novel about identity that also delivers great sportswriting.

crackback 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The book crackback has a realistic genre. It was written by John Coy. Also it was illustated by Marijka Kostiw. You got to give them both credit for this book. Because this book is an exciting novel that keeps you focused throughout the time you read. It's a high school and sports book. So if you like sports you will love this book. The sport they are playing in this book is football. High school football is one of the best times for football. The story is revolved around a young tennager fighting for a spot on the varsity fooball team for his school. The coach got sick and a new coach came in and made his life and tough one. The coach did not like the player, and it was a hard ride thoughout the year for the player. If I was looking at this book and I was deciding if i was going to read it or not. Since I have read it I would choose to read it again. I would recomened this book to anyone that love sports and who is addicted to it and remembers high school to read this book.

Editorial Review:

When Miles Manning, a successful high school football player, discovers his teammates are using steroids--and one of them is his best friend--he's faced with a tough decision: Is he willing to do what it takes to win? Football is his life, and his family, especially his dad, is pinning its hopes on him. It's a lot of pressure for a high school junior to bear. This gripping look into the world of high school boys and athletes--and their struggle to be the best--is provocative and searingly honest.

I am eleven years old, and I love Miss Nelson Has a Field Day because it was funny and interesting. I liked it when Miss Viola Swamp called one boy, "Smarty". It made me laugh!! I think other kids should read this because it is a really good book. I think it is even better than the first two Miss Nelson books. All kids would love this book!!

Your kids will love the Miss Nelson series!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Miss Swamp reappears at the Horace B. Smedley School

The Horace B. Smedley School's football team is awful-and their big game with their major rival is on tap. Can anything be done to get the guys into shape in time for the game? Miss Nelson has a plan and, out of the blue, Miss Swamp is on the scene. But where is Miss Nelson??????

This is a truly delightful series that the whole family can enjoy. Good stories, great characters and the indomitable Miss Nelson all add up to great fun and great reading for kids.

Editorial Review:

The notorious Miss Swamp reappears at the Horace B. Smedley School, this time to shape up the football team and help them to win at least one game.

No More Dead Dogs 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

No more dead dogs is a great book. The book makes you wonder, and have to think. You also have to fill in the peices until the very end. It is about a boy named Wallace Wallace, (yes thats his name)he was the star of the football team until detention. He wrote a bad review of a book and his teacher gave him detention until he wrote a good one. For detention he was with the drama club and after being with them for a while he decided to quit football. Why you will have to read and find out.

NO MORE DEAD DOGS 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a cute book. I believe if you like dogs it is very entertaing for a young reader. Not that others wouldn't like the book, but it is a good book for someone around ten or twelve years of age.

Very good read! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My son was put off by the title of the book because he didn't want to read about any dead dogs but here is his review: 'the boy in the book- Wallace-doesn't like books about dogs that die. So when Wallace (who can't tell a lie) gets detention (for writing what he really felt about a 'dead dog' book), he sees the beginning of a play the school is doing and it's about a dead dog. Wallace ended up helping to make the play into something fantastic & changed it so no dog died. It was a funny, uplifting read.'

Editorial Review:

Eighth-grade football hero Wallace Wallace is sentenced to detention attending rehearsals of the school play where, in spite of himself, he becomes wrapped up in the production and begins to suggest changes that improve not only the play but his life as well.

Fabulous young adult (or old adult) read 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The novel opens with the haunting first line "The way it looks is not the way it is" - whoa! Keir is a graduating high school senior with a best-friend/dad, and two sisters. He drinks way too much, is liked by everyone, and is a self proclaimed good guy. Between Keir narrating his final year of school and giving a brief bio on his life for our sake, he fills the reader in with his current situation - which is shady at best. Without revealing too much of the plot, he is alone, with the girl he loves, defending his good guy status. Again, WHOA!

This book is spooky, creepy, and intriguing all over the place. The best part about it is the reader hardly realizes how creepy and what a thriller the novel actually is until the ending. The author's choice of telling the story from Keir's first person perspective is amazing, and really shapes the book. All of the character development, insight, emotions, and appeal are completely based on the reader's interpretation of the events and the story. I wouldn't say it's a nail biter, it's much too subtle for that...but it is a page turner all the way.

Editorial Review:

I am a good guy.

Keir Sarafian may not know much, but he knows himself. And the one thing he knows about himself is that he is a good guy. A guy who's a devoted son and brother, a loyal friend, and a reliable teammate. And maybe most important of all, a guy who understands that when a girl says no, she means it. But that is not what Gigi Boudakian, childhood friend and Keir's lifelong love, says he is. What Gigi says he is seems impossible to Keir....It is something inexcusable -- the worst thing he can imagine, the very opposite of everything he wants to be.

As Keir recalls the events leading up to his fateful night with Gigi, he realizes that the way things look are definitely not the way they really are -- and that it may be all too easy for a good guy to do something terribly wrong.

Chris Lynch has written a no-holds-barred story about truth, lies, and responsibility -- a story that every good guy needs to hear.

A great little read :-) 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

I reviewed Game Day earlier in the year after buying it for my nephew and both he and I (yes I admit it) loved it. Full of great pictures and a nice message, this is similar to Game Day in that respect.
Both Tiki and Ronde have written this together (it's also going to be their last book in this series). It's about learning how to be a team, which these days (after seeing kids and parents brawl) is an important message. It's also about perserverance, and learning to rely on family. They base their stories loosely around their own childhood experiences growing up playing ball so the story is sincere. Now that they each play for the NFL (Tampa Bay and the Giants), these brothers are hero's to little kids and so their words are more inspiring and meaningful. That's a big appeal in their books.
In Teammates, they are teammates on the Cave Spring Vikings and when Tiki is upset over the way he plays a game, his coach inspires him to believe in himself. So with the help of his brother Ronde, they secretly practice each morning before school to help give Tiki's game a lift and help him hold onto the ball.
It's well written and the pictures are as good as always. It is inspirational to kids and they make it enjoyable. I really think all kids will love it and find lessons in here, and it will make an excellent birthday gift to a little one be it boy or girl.

Editorial Review:

Tiki and Ronde are brothers, best friends, and teammates on the Cave Spring Vikings football team. It's the last preseason game against their arch-rival Knights -- and the football is suddenly knocked out of Tiki's grip. What gives, he thinks, I've always carried the ball this way before.

Inspired by Coach Mike, who tells Tiki, "You've gotta believe," Tiki begins secret practice sessions with Ronde in the morning on the way to school. Will it make a difference in the next big game against the Knights?

Based on the childhoods of NFL superstars Tiki and Ronde Barber, this story of determination and of confidence will inspire all who read it.
