Highly Recommended 5 out of 5 stars.

If this book were any sweeter it would cause cavities.

I bought this book for my 7 year old and I think I like it more than he does.

Tiki and Ronde demonstrate how they work together off the football field when Tiki injures his leg one summer. Their brotherly bond helps Tiki to wait out his injury and eventually make it back to the playing field better than ever.

Football is a side note to the themes of patience, endurance, doing the right thing (Homework!), and overcoming what seem to be insurmountable odds.

I hope they write more books like this one.

Editorial Review:

Tiki and Ronde were each other's best friends. Together from the start, these twins might not have been the strongest or the tallest, but they were fast and worked hard at what they loved. And they loved sports, especially football.

Then one day Tiki badly hurt his knee in a biking accident, and he was sure he'd never be able to play again. Their mother had always told them, "You are each other's best friends. Stick together, believe in yourselves, and you can do anything." They kept her words in their hearts and never gave up.

Based on the childhood of National Football League superstars Ronde and Tiki Barber, this inspiring book about the values of family, hard work, and determination is the story of what it takes to be a champion.

Sweet story, expressive illustrations 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

There is a sweetness to this illustrated storybook about a young boy whose siblings all know what their passion is, but he doesn't know his. This book is best for kids unsure of what they want to be when they grow up. That description fits almost everyone! When young Linden feels anxious that he hasn't found his niche, readers will undoubtedly relate.

Linden's older brother Tony and scientist dad gently help him search for his "it," his passion. They remind him to have patience and trust in God to reveal this special talent. "Just keep having faith," Dad tells Linden. The boy finds his "it" during a trip to the dentist.

This true story was written by the head coach of the 2006 Super Bowl champions.

Expressive watercolors fill the pages with color from edge to edge. The loving African-American family is realistically rendered. Illustrator Amy June Bates has a knack for showing movement and action, and depicting real people.

Under the dust jacket the cover has the exact same artwork on the front and photo of Tony Dungy on the back.

Editorial Review:

Tony Dungy's little brother, Linden, is a third grader who is having a bad day at school. Linden is the youngest of the Dungy family and the least motivated because he hasn't found "it." In a family where everyone seems to have found their special talent, all Linden knows is that he wants to make people happy.

With encouragement from his parents, a helping hand from his older brother Tony, and inspiration from God, Linden learns that if he dreams big and has faith, he can do anything!

Great Baby Shower Gift 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Our daughter does not want to know the sex of her baby before it's born, so my husband and I gave definitely different shower gifts to her, including books instead of greeting cards. I gave Knitting Nell and my husband chose My Football Book. Both books were purchased through Amazon, and they came quickly and in excellent condition. They were perfect, and "even a girl" can learn to play football from My Football Book (when she/he's not knitting).

Good story about family ;-) 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 18 people found this review helpful.

What a really cute book. I got this for my little nephew who loves it. The pictures are lovely and so well done, and the story is real. It is about family and being there for each other. Of course there is the sport which will keep all kids entertained. It's a great effort from a (cute) very talented Giant of the game. Especially good for little boys, they will want you to read this over and over.

Editorial Review:

Ronde and Tiki are a team. They are twins, they are each other's best friends and biggest fans, and they play on the same football team, the Cave Spring Vikings. Rondeis #21 and Tiki is #22, always side by side.

Tiki has had seven long touch-down runs this season, and Ronde is proud of his brother, but he can't help feeling a little down when Tiki gets all the glory. If Ronde hadn't been leading the way with his blocks, Tiki wouldn't have been clear to score. Ronde thinks nobody notices the guy who blocks; they only notice the guy who scores. Will the day ever come when Ronde will get his chance?

Written by two NFL superstars, this story of perseverance and teamwork will inspire. Barry Root's glowing illustrations bring to life all the excitement and energy of a great game and a team working together.

A great little read :-) 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 24 people found this review helpful.

I reviewed Game Day earlier in the year after buying it for my nephew and both he and I (yes I admit it) loved it. Full of great pictures and a nice message, this is similar to Game Day in that respect.
Both Tiki and Ronde have written this together (it's also going to be their last book in this series). It's about learning how to be a team, which these days (after seeing kids and parents brawl) is an important message. It's also about perserverance, and learning to rely on family. They base their stories loosely around their own childhood experiences growing up playing ball so the story is sincere. Now that they each play for the NFL (Tampa Bay and the Giants), these brothers are hero's to little kids and so their words are more inspiring and meaningful. That's a big appeal in their books.
In Teammates, they are teammates on the Cave Spring Vikings and when Tiki is upset over the way he plays a game, his coach inspires him to believe in himself. So with the help of his brother Ronde, they secretly practice each morning before school to help give Tiki's game a lift and help him hold onto the ball.
It's well written and the pictures are as good as always. It is inspirational to kids and they make it enjoyable. I really think all kids will love it and find lessons in here, and it will make an excellent birthday gift to a little one be it boy or girl.

Editorial Review:

Tiki and Ronde are brothers, best friends, and teammates on the Cave Spring Vikings football team. It's the last preseason game against their arch-rival Knights -- and the football is suddenly knocked out of Tiki's grip. What gives, he thinks, I've always carried the ball this way before.

Inspired by Coach Mike, who tells Tiki, "You've gotta believe," Tiki begins secret practice sessions with Ronde in the morning on the way to school. Will it make a difference in the next big game against the Knights?

Based on the childhoods of NFL superstars Tiki and Ronde Barber, this story of determination and of confidence will inspire all who read it.

Something for everyone 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

John Cappelletti was a rising football star at Penn State. His younger brother Joey was suffering from leukemia. John did the one thing he could do for Joey, he scored touchdowns. John ended up winning the Heisman Trophy as the top player in collegiate football. At the awards dinner, John gave one of the most emotional and inspirational speeches ever delivered, as he gave his trophy to Joey.
This book tells the whole story. It has moments of humor (as Joey asks John to score 4 touchdowns in one game). It has moments of triumph (as John actually scores 4 touchdowns in one game...just for Joey). It is heartbreaking and spirit-building.
My only complaint is that it reads more as a movie adaptation (the movie starred Marc Singer as John). I would have liked to hear some from John, himself.
Even so, everyone will benefit from reading this book.

Editorial Review:

Together, they won college football's highest award.

This is a true, memorable, compassionate story of courage and love between two brothers. In 1973, while John Cappelletti was winning the Heisman Trophy as the outstanding college football player in America, his younger brother Joey was suffering from leukemia. But John, now a running back for the Los Angeles Rams, had a very special medicine for Joey. It was called touchdowns. And John scored them in bunches because they were "Something for Joey." The story of the Cappelletti family is a story of courage you will never forget.

Try to take this away from a toddler, and prepare to get tackled! Artist David Diehl celebrates gridiron action in a conceptual board book that puts the spotlight on one football-related word per page. Strikingly designed, with bold graphics and exuberant colors, it brings children right onto the field. Whether it’s the offense’s “fumble,” the “quarterback” throwing, or the “snap” that starts the play, all Diehl’s illustrations capture the excitement, energy, and intensity of the sport.
