Tied With First Book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The beginning made me unsure but once he got to camp (or met Tarik) I knew it would be good. I was worried that Danny would walk over everyone, but between Rasheed (at first) Lamar ( He doesn't deserve to be Named after Lamar Odom) and Coach "My Way" Powers I had plenty of people to hate (Teddy was absent because Richie told the mafia to get him). Powers was tied with Lamar and Teddy for biggest jerk in history, his quotes, (after Danny wins the game by using his own play) "You used your own play didn't you? No more secrets Mr. walker. Are you ever going to learn?" (after Danny asks to be traded to another team) " Mr. Walker let me give you to think about. Soccer. It's full of fast little guys like you." He destroys anyone with creativity and run an run mindedness (If he coached the Phoenix Suns Nash, Barbosa, Marion and Amare would be chewed out nightly and get 5 minutes of play each)

Editorial Review:

The sequel to the #1 New York Times bestseller Travel Team!

When you ’re the smallest kid playing a big man’s game, the challenges never stop—especially when your name is Danny Walker. Leading your travel team to the national championship may seem like a dream come true, but for Danny, being at the top just means the competition tries that much harder to knock him off. Now Danny’s heading to Right Way basketball camp for the summer, and he knows that with the country’s best players in attendance, he’s going to need to take his game up a notch if he wants to match up. But it won’t be easy. Old rivals and new battles leave Danny wondering if he really does have what it takes to stand tall.

Daren mcall, very nice and loves to play basketball. Heloves to help others. He helps out Gary and teaches him a little bit of how to play basketball. Daren and Lou get into a fight, but they get over it in the end.

They won their first game 52,45.Then Daren's neighbor wanted him to help Gary learn how to play basketball.Their next game was against the Blazers. They had won that game, but Daren didn't play well at all.The next game was against the Rebels.
If they lost that game they would be out of the playoffs. The RANGERS WON!!!They got to go to the tournament.

In the past,At the basketball court and Daren's home.

You shall never give up even if you are losing and if you are under pressure. You may never know if someone did something unless you ask them or you have proof.

I liked this book a lot;it kept me alive and I was never bored of the story.I wish all books were like this one!!!

Editorial Review:

Basketball forward Daren McCall is quick with an insult, quick to take offense, and quick to blame anyone but himself for his troubles. So when center Lou Bettman accuses him first of badmouthing him, then of vandalism, Daren turns the tables and insists that Lou is out to get him. The team splits into two camps. The fight heats up when Daren falls victim to an outrageous act. But did Lou retaliate, as Daren suspects, or is someone else trying to teach Daren a lesson?.

Great Gift 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this for my neice's 7th birthday. It, along with Coconut, were her favorite gifts. You'd never know I didn't pay lots more buying it directly from American Girl!

Cute but... 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The cat is cute but it's as hard as a rock! I guess "Coconut" is this way too. I thought it would be a soft stuffed animal but it's more like a block of wood covered in faux fur. It's probably very durable because of this. I gave it to a 10 year old girl who collects American Girl stuff and she was thrilled to have it, so it was a very successful gift in that respect.

PS- I would recommend shipping this item via UPS (instead of USPS). I made the mistake of going with USPS because it was free, the item was over a week late and the clear plastic window in the front was dented.

Editorial Review:

Girls love Licorice - an adorable black cat with green eyes and a magnetic mouth that enables her to hold toys. And girls love quizzes! Girls will have a blast learning about themselves and a friend as they share quizzes that feature American Girl's Westie pup and her adorable new pal, Licorice. Coconut's Quiz Book is double the fun because every quiz comes in twos - perfect for sharing!

A must read for young ball players 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

My boys (9 and 14) have read many of Matt Christopher's books. All are good, some are great treats. I gave a copy of "The Kid Who Only Hit Homers" to each boy on my baseball team last year. They loved it! This year I am giving each player a copy of Christopher's "Great Moments." I read this collection of great moments (an unassisted triple play in the World Series for example) to my boys and enjoyed every page. We re-read some of the stories they were so much fun. This is a must read for all young/new baseball fans.

Good stuff 5 out of 5 stars.

Matt Christopher is one of the best baseball writers for young readers out there. This is another notch in his belt. Pick this up.

Courage Displayed on a baseball diamond 5 out of 5 stars.

In Great Moments In Baseball History, you can learn a lot about some of the greatest players in major league history. Matthew Christopher, the author of this book, put together his view of a 9 tremendous, and courageous pitching performances, hitting clinics, catches, and life stories in this book. Some people who are in the book are strong, courageous, have stamina, but most of all, each person has their own little characteristic different than everyone else's. Anyone who asks me about this book, all I have to tell them is that it is a great read and a wonderful grouping of stories that any true baseball fan can enjoy time and time again.
All of these stories are incredible in their own special way. For example, there is a story about a pitcher who only had one hand and he threw a no hitter against a team who had in the previous week scored 7 runs against him, he showed to everyone that he had courage. Another story describes a pitcher who had cancer and was told that he would never pitch in the majors again, and it would be considered lucky to be able to play catch in the backyard with his son. Against all odds, after just 11 short months he was back in the majors and he was pitching great. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with cancer again and had his arm removed but he is still alive and well. Finally there is my favorite story of Joe Nuxhall who pitched in his first ever major league game at the tender young age of just 15. Although he was nervous he pitched well and was signed to a contract with the Cincinnati Reds at 16 years old (he was the youngest player ever to play major league baseball).
Matthew Christopher added great little details to every story to kind of add some drama to each one. For example, he told the audience how even though Babe Ruth was old and out of shape he could still hit three homeruns in a baseball game and have fun doing so. Another example is in the story of the pitcher with cancer, Christopher added in the detail of how he "might" be able to play catch with his son in the backyard to add some drama to the already dramatic situation. There are also so great word usages in the stories and he places every one of them in the perfect spot to help the reader make sense of everything.
Great Moments In Baseball History is a great book about heart warming, funny, and enlightening stories and people. Every story is different and exciting in that one special way that you can always remember. Also the author describes everything very well and it is easy to understand every word that is being said. Finally you can learn a lot from every person in the book and a piece of their life that may reach out and touch your own life.

Editorial Review:

Capturing the suspense and play-by-play action of nine major league plays and the personalities of the athletes that made them, a fan's treasury includes Willie May's 1954 World Series catch and Jim Abbott's no-hitter.

Enchanting and Realistic 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Enchanting
It's hard to explain what makes this book so charming: The writing, the way the children and their relationships with each other are shown so clearly and believably, the very real adventures they have, the sense of place....but listing those traits doesn't do the book justice. It's also really funny in places! Ransome creates a world that is clearer and lighter and more enchanting than the one most of us live in -- but he's also written a realistic book. The Lake District DOES look the way he describes it, and there could be children like the Swallows and their friends the Amazon pirates.

The books are for all ages, and I think they are also inspiring and a good influence! They make me want to have adventures -- and they encourage parents by example to let their children have them. The parents in the books are responsible, teach their children well -- and allow them to adventure on their own. They can do that because they've taught the children to have good judgment and be responsible.

Arthur Ransome's own favorite in the series was WINTER HOLIDAY, which I also loved. Once the original characters leave the series, it loses its interest (for me, anyway) -- children who enjoyed the first books will also probably like Blow Out the Moon by Libby Koponen and all the E.Nesbit books.

Editorial Review:

The first title in Arthur Ransome's classic series, originally published in 1930: for children, for grownups, for anyone captivated by the world of adventure and imagination. Swallows and Amazons introduces the lovable Walker family, the camp on Wild Cat island, the able-bodied catboat Swallow, and the two intrepid Amazons, Nancy and Peggy Blackett.

Henry and Mudge and the Forever Sea 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I picked this book out at our local library for my two year old daughter because she loves dogs and the beach. It turned out to be such a big hit that I am buying it! She of course can't read, but enjoyed the story and pictures very much. She loves Mudges playfullness and had just been to the beach recently so she could relate to Henry and his father playing in the water. The length of the story is just right also for her. It's a wonderful book and we are buying two more from the series besides this one!

Great Beach Reading for the Younger Set 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My 1st grader just loves Henry and Mudge books. They are "chapter" books-- and not "baby" books. But, they are easy to read. (Easier than Magic Tree House, for example.) Plus, this series appeals to both boys and girls (but especially boys).

This particular books captures the essence of going on a trip to the beach: the anticipation, the long drive, the waves, the crabs. This book would also make a good read-aloud for a younger child about to go on a trip to the beach.

Note: you might want to purchase Henry And Mudge First Book before this book or with this book. It introduces the characters used in the rest of the series.

Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

Henry and his 180-pound dog Mudge are best friends forever. And in this sixth book of their adventures, they share a fun-filled day at the beach.

One of Paulsens best! 5 out of 5 stars.

Woodsong
By
Gary Paulsen

Woodsong is a story about the author's adventure in Alaska. He writes
about running dogs and racing in the Iditarod.
This story begins in Anchorage, Alaska in the 1980s. Paulsen runs the
dogs which means hitching a dog team to a sled and taking them for a
run.
One time while running the dogs, they saw a glowing light in the
woods. It seemed to be person walking in the dark with a lantern.
Paulsen also thought it was a ghost. It turned out to be a dead tree
with a glowing mushroom on it. He walked up to it and hit his head on
the dead tree. He felt the glowing light and realized it was a glowing
mushroom.
On another adventure, he was running his dogs in a snow storm. Paulsen
was headed for the edge of a cliff. He told the dog team to go straight
and straight would take them off the edge of the cliff. Paulsen did not
know because he was in a snow storm and he could not see. The dogs
knew they were about to go off the cliff. They tried to turn away but
Paulsen told them to go off the edge. They flew right off the edge of
the cliff. The sled and some of the dogs fell on him. He had a broken
rib. He got the dogs and the sled off of him and got the sled in to
shape. He got on the sled and the dogs knew the way and pulled him home.
The last part of the book is about the Iditarod race. The Iditarod
is an annual dog sled race in Alaska, where mushers and teams of dogs
cover about 1,150 miles in eight to fifteen days. Paulsen had a long
and hard race but he finished in about thirteen days.
I would recommend this book to someone who is a adventure seeker.
I liked it because it was a true story.

Editorial Review:

For a rugged outdoor man and his family, life in northern Minnesota is a wild experience involving wolves, deer, and the sled dogs that make their way of life possible. Includes an account of the author's first Iditarod, a dogsled race across Alaska.

A good series but a poor translation 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The Prince of Tennis is one of my favorite anime series. Many people say the manga is superior. This may be true, but this publication butchers the translation to the point where I can't stand reading it. I've only seen a friend's copy, and it was enough to make me not want to get it myself.

What bothers me the most is how lazy the translators seem to be. The anime has a large following in america. You'd think they could get someone knowledgable in the common terms used, or how characters address each other. Any Tenipuri fan could have caught the dozens of errors prior to publication.

It baffles me that the same company can do a stellar job with the publication of Death Note but completely butcher this one.

Editorial Review:

Practice games soar to a new level as the Seishun Academy intra-squad games get underway. Meanwhile, the semi-final match between Fudomine and Yamabuki at the City Tournament is put on ice when word reaches Kippei that his teammates were involved in a car accident. But the real fun begins when Seishun's Momo steps onto the court to play Yamabuki's Kiyosumi Sengoku. Momo sure wasn't prepared to face a player who uses a racket with an unusually low string tension...!
