I've always been fascinated by the speed of the Pit Crew members and I find that to be one of the most exciting parts of the car races. This book covers so much more:

We purchased this book for our 6-year-old who has recently taken an interest in NASCAR. He is able to read most of it himself, but it is not so watered-down as to be dull--it has quite a bit of good information. The little trophy stickers inside are cute--they get one each time they read the book, but the motivation to read it really comes from the fact that it is interesting!

My Race Car, the second in a series which started with My Fire Engine, is another hit by Michael Rex. The books in this series portray a young boy who, while playing with his toys, pretends he is a race care driver. For anyone that ever played pretend with their toys it brings back memories. For the child you will read this book to, it inspires them to dream a little dream. This book as well as My Fire Engine are must buys.

I really liked this book. It told me all I really needed to know about Monster Jam and the Monster Trucks that raced in the rally's. The pictures really had action like the real thing. And you can trust me I've been in six of these events straight. It has eleven interviews of the Monster Trucks. It's like you are behind the wheel and you know exacly what your doing. From the kill switch to the gears you learn everything. The trucks 1,500 horsepower engines.

I have been reading this book with my son, age 4, for a week. The book is not too long and it has really great photos in it. There are plenty of small snippets of information for reading so you can read a little on each page out loud without having to read it all. We checked it out from the library and I can't believe it is here in hardcover for five bucks. Truly worth the money.

First of all, I must start this review with a warning. This book was published by the PineCar Company to support their product line. Most Scout troops require the use of official Boy Scout Pinewood Derby kits, which are different than the kits sold by PineCar. Using a PineCar kit to make your car can get you disqualified, so please check with the sponsor of your race to ensure that a PineCar kit can be used. That said, though, this book contains a great deal of advice that can be applied to making either PineCar or Pinewood Derby cars.

This wonderful book walks you, step by step, through the creation of a PineCar. The book begins with information on planning and designing your car, the use of various tools for shaping it, and information on painting and decorating. Following this is information on weights, polishing axles, lubrication, smoothing wheels, and reshaping wheels (this final technique is forbidden by most Scout troops).

So, overall, I would recommend this book to anyone making PineCar or Pinewood Derby cars. If you are making the latter, then simply ignore what ever doesn't apply to your kit. Overall, this is a very good resource.

It also devotes an entire section to Speed and Racing. This section gives detailed information on how factors such as shape, weight, and axle polishing can be used to get the most speed out of your racer. The Speed Tips included will give you the winning edge at your race.
