My Whole Family Loves This Book 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

This story is delightful. We bought it because we were taking our 2.5 yr old along on a ski trip and wanted him to have a silly little story that related to the mountain and skiing (even though he's not on skis yet). Well, it is just that... and more. He's learned a lot, developed an interest in skiing (maybe next year) and always gets a good laugh out of this book! It's also fun that George seems to invent snowboarding - my husband and I got a big kick out of that and have shared the story with many adult friends (isn't everyone a Curious Geroge fan?)!
IMPORTANT: The structure of the story and the illustrations maintain the integrity of the original series!!

Editorial Review:

George and the man with the yellow hat enjoy watching the winter sports competition. When they stop to warm up with some cocoa, George's curiosity about the racing equipment leads to some wild rides up and down the slopes. He creates quite a stir at the resort, and may even create a new sport! The adventures of Curious George continue in an all-new series beginning in fall 1998 with eight new stories. Written and illustrated in the style of Margret and H. A. Rey, the books appear in paperback (8 x 8") and hardcover editions and feature the art of Vipah Interactive, the animators of HMI's Curious George CD-ROMs.

The warmth and openness that the authors convey in this book makes you feel like you live in that neighborhood yourself. Cute story; beautiful artwork. Children as young as 2 are drawn in and fascinated by the magical storyline. Great read-aloud book!

My Special Education class loved this book. The pictures are delightful and the story is fun and exciting for my Kindergarten/First Grade Class. This book was selected by my department as a suggested book for use in my class.

Editorial Review:

Have you ever built a snowman and discovered the next day that his grin has gotten a little crooked, or his tree-branch arms have moved? And you've wondered . . . what do snowmen do at night? This delightful wintertime tale reveals all! Caralyn Buehner's witty, imaginative verse offers many amusing details about the secret life of snowmen and where they go at night, while Mark Buehner's roly-poly snowmen are bursting with personality and charm. From the highly successful team that created such winning titles as Fanny's Dream, Snowmen at Night is fabulous, frosty, and fun!

So Much to Do --- Anytime for a Snowman? 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

It's a fun, snowy day at Little Critter's place and a day off from school means lots of time for snow fun. Little Critter wants to build a snowman, but finds himself being asked to do just about everything else instead. Little Sister wants to have a snowball fight, his friends want to go skating and sleeding --- will there be any time to build a snowman?

This is a great picture book that captures the fun of a snowy day. The illustrations are brightly colored with pleasing color choices such as deep textured blues and pinks. Various animal characters in the scenes such as birds and mice add plenty of visual interest.

Just a Snowman by Mercer Mayer 5 out of 5 stars.

All 3 of my children, ages 25 to 13 have had the Mercer Mayer books and loved them - I am now buying for my 3 year old grand-daughter, and she too loves these. I think these are a must for every child!

Editorial Review:

Hooray! It is a snow day! And what a perfect time to make a snowman. But Little Sister needs help putting on her boots, Dad needs a hand with the shoveling, and Gator wants to build a fort. Will Little Critter ever get to build a snowman?

A Beautiful story 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book may be short, but it ends on such a great note (sad, but great!) The main character is developed beautiful and as a reader we can understand him completely and we can feel his pain, worry, and frustration. The grandfather is shown with two side, one side not being that pretty. However much the story is about Willy and his grandfather, it is more just about Willy and his dog, and it is this relationship that makes the book what it is, beautiful.
I would recommend this to anyone, adult and child alike.

Upset child 2 out of 5 stars.

This story is very obviously wonderfully written and very touching. However, I am horrified that the dog dies in the end. My daughter is 9 and LOVES animals and she was devastated. I just had to remind her that it was just a story. It was on her summer reading list and I am going to suggest that they change it for next year.

Editorial Review:

Little Willy's Grandfather is sick, and it's up to Willy to save their farm from tax collectors. Their only hope is the prize money from the National Dogsled Race. But a lot of other people want to win the race, too, including Stone Fox, who has never los

We love Corduroy! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Corduroy books are my daughter's (15 mo) favorites and this one is no exception. She still wants me to read it to her everyday even though the "snow days" are over for the year. The size is great for a toddler and the story is just the right length.

Editorial Review:

Join Corduroy and his friends as they zip down a hill on their sleds, build a snowman, and have a snowball fight! It’s a winter wonderland with a steaming cup of hot chocolate to warm everyone up at the end of the day.

This brightly colored shaped board book is perfect for the youngest fans of Corduroy, one of the best-loved characters in children’s books for nearly forty years.

A great book to talk about the beach to your child 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We bought this book just before we went on a beach vacation for our 18 month old. He loves Corduroy. This book has great pictures and the flaps make it very interesting. I looked really hard for a good beach book for my son. This one is the best!

Great for young children 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

As with all of the Corduroy Lift the Flap books (Easter, Christmas, Beach, Halloween, Firehouse, Zoo, Birthday--no longer in print, and Library), this one rates 5 stars......and we own them all! These rate as our absolute favorites in our book collection. The text is not lengthy and the flaps keep my two 1/2 year olds hands busy enough for me to read the text before he is on to the next page. For this reason, they were the only books we read for a long time. The illustrations are fantastic! The story takes you on the course of Corduroy's day-- packing for the beech, finding a spot in the sand, taking a swim, flying a kite, getting ice cream and going on rides on the boardwalk, and looking for treasures in the sand. Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

Corduroy and his friends are heading to the beach for a fun-filled day of playing by the sea. First they jump over the waves and fly kites, then it’s time for a tasty picnic lunch and a special treat—ice cream! In the afternoon, Corduroy and his pals collect seashells and build sandcastles. Seven spreads filled with thirty-five flaps will keep small fingers happily busy.

Woodsong
By
Gary Paulsen

Woodsong is a story about the author's adventure in Alaska. He writes
about running dogs and racing in the Iditarod.
This story begins in Anchorage, Alaska in the 1980s. Paulsen runs the
dogs which means hitching a dog team to a sled and taking them for a
run.
One time while running the dogs, they saw a glowing light in the
woods. It seemed to be person walking in the dark with a lantern.
Paulsen also thought it was a ghost. It turned out to be a dead tree
with a glowing mushroom on it. He walked up to it and hit his head on
the dead tree. He felt the glowing light and realized it was a glowing
mushroom.
On another adventure, he was running his dogs in a snow storm. Paulsen
was headed for the edge of a cliff. He told the dog team to go straight
and straight would take them off the edge of the cliff. Paulsen did not
know because he was in a snow storm and he could not see. The dogs
knew they were about to go off the cliff. They tried to turn away but
Paulsen told them to go off the edge. They flew right off the edge of
the cliff. The sled and some of the dogs fell on him. He had a broken
rib. He got the dogs and the sled off of him and got the sled in to
shape. He got on the sled and the dogs knew the way and pulled him home.
The last part of the book is about the Iditarod race. The Iditarod
is an annual dog sled race in Alaska, where mushers and teams of dogs
cover about 1,150 miles in eight to fifteen days. Paulsen had a long
and hard race but he finished in about thirteen days.
I would recommend this book to someone who is a adventure seeker.
I liked it because it was a true story.

Editorial Review:

A LIFE AS EXCITING AS FICTION

Gary Paulsen, three-time Newbery Honor author, is no stranger to adventure. He has flown off the back of a dogsled and down a frozen waterfall to near disaster, and waited for a giant bear to seal his fate with one slap of a claw. He has led a team of sled dogs toward the Alaskan Mountain Range in an Iditarod -- the grueling, 1,180-mile dogsled race -- hallucinating from lack of sleep, but he determined to finish.

Here, in vivid detail, Paulsen recounts several of the remarkable experiences that shaped his life and inspired his award-winning writing.

A great snow day story, nothing more than that 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

My 3 yr old son absolutely loves this book and I was pleasantly surprised with the simple rhyming story and how nice it reads aloud. I couldn't disagree more with a previous reviewer's insinuation that this book is depicting a hidden sexual message simply because the two snowmen are male at the end. Last time I checked two men ("snow" or of any other type) can be friends without it meaning anything else. Ridiculous. Like I said, a great inexpensive read - words flow beautifully and the pictures are sweet and great for kids.

All You Need for a Snowman 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

PreS-K. "One small snowflake fluttering down- that's all you need for a snowman. EXCEPT." Alice Schertle uses rhyming, catchy text in describing how to make a snowman. The use of the word "EXCEPT" encourages children to listen closely as they wait for the page to turn. The watercolor paintings help tell the story of neighborhood children working together to build a larger than life snowman. The children, dressed in colorful clothing "pat them and pack them and roll them around," and then, that "one big ball," seems to be larger than a house. The finished snowman is so large the book needs to be turned sideways to see it. These beautiful paintings along with the fun text keep the energy alive in this book. A great book for a snow or snowman themed storytime!

Editorial Review:

One small snowflake fluttering down--
That's all you need for a snowman.
Or is it? In these pages, an exuberant crew is summoned to create a snowman of heroic proportions.

THE RUNAWAY DOG is a book about a boy, his friends, and a dog named Rags. The boy was playing Pilgrims, Indians, and a turkey. Rags was the turkey. Jones, the boy, was chasimg Rags and they did not know that he disappeared. The boy went looking for him but did not find him.
After the boy found his dog, they went to find Mr.Signorelli. He had no family. So the boy asked if he would have Thankgiving dinner with him. He said, "Yes, I will have dinner with you." That is the end of the Case Of The Runaway Dog.
I like this book. It is fun. When you get in the middle of the book you will find out who the bad person is. This is exciting book because you have to figureout clues.

Always a winner! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Patricia Polacco's style and warmth comes through again! Her words bring you into the story with ease and you find yourself watching a family situation unfold. Hanging onto every word so you will not miss any of the action, you become part of the story. This story involves her brother, Rotten Richie and a very valuable lesson taught by their mother for both of them when they were younger. It's a normal part of childhood that all siblings encounter but the human element evolves sharing with the reader that no matter what, respect comes through when you are in someone else's shoes. As always, photos from her childhood gives the personal touch readers crave for.

Editorial Review:

Seems like Richie’s entire goal in life is to make Trisha’s impossible. Especially when he takes to teasing her about her beloved ballet class. Trisha knows how much work it takes to be good at ballet—much more than the stupid hockey Richie plays! So she challenges Richie to perform in her ballet recital, and Richie agrees, under one condition: Trisha has to join his hockey team for the big game!

This hilarious follow-up to My Rotten Red- Headed Older Brother is a sibling swap of slippers and skates that will leave you cheering for both sides.
