An Alright Guide For A Great Game 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Although FFA was superbly done, this guide leaves...something to be desired. There wasn't much space devoted to character stats, and the mpas could have been presented in a better way. Overall, though, this guide will get you thourgh FFA, without giving away ALL of the plot, and giving you many of the secrets needed for mini-games, etc. A must buy for a FF fan, but not for many other people.

Final Fantasy 5 & 6 for dumbies 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This is a remarkable book with hints and tips on how to beat bosses, get secret items, and completely beat both 5 & 6. I would recommend you first try to beat it yourself before buying this book. If you still have trouble getting the best out of these games then go right ahead and buy it. If you still are stumped after looking at the book then I would give up and play another game.

Inexcusable; Brady should be ashamed 1 out of 5 stars.
12 of 14 people found this review helpful.

Do not waste your money on this steaming load. Not only is it missing a TON of maps (CoP zones, I can understand.. but no Boyahda, Quicksand, Onzozo, etc.?); for the maps it does have, that's just about all you get - a map. There's a little info on some NM pop locations, but that's it. This guide doles out useful information very sparingly. Not a single damn coffer pop location.

As if being an ATLAS WITHOUT MAPS wasn't enough, the guide is spotted with misinformation here and there. For example, don't try to use this guide if you need to go to a specific location in Western Altepa Desert - the grid is completely wrong.

The one useful thing you get from this guide is level ranges and aggro information for different mobs in different zones. Knowing whether raptors in the Valley link or not is a good thing.. for this, I give the Brady Atlas 1 star.

"The Final Word" 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

When it comes to strategy guides, no company does them better than Piggyback Interactive. Based in the UK, Piggyback rarely sends strategy guides to the states. When you get one, though, you're glad. These are detailed like no other guide you've ever seen. Their Final Fantasy XII guide is just as detailed.

At over 300 pages, this is Piggyback's biggest guide they've ever done. This tome is packed with more information than any other Final Fantasy XII guide you can find.

It takes a long time to jump into the walkthrough in this guide. It begins with the game basics that take up a ton of space. Mostly because it doesn't just get you adapted to the controls, but Final Fantasy XII's combat system. Giving you the run down on everything, including Gambits. Not only do they explain Gambits but they offer some pretty good examples of how to set them up. Using this guide you'll be able to set up a well balanced party. It helps to see just how good the gamebit system can really be. It'll also give you the low down on every character. Showing how much they'll level up and what some of their stats will be between certain levels. Just the same, this is the only guide that goes in depth on all the guests that'll join your party and let's you know what their gambits are.

Afterwards we get into the staddard items list for weapons, armor etc. Again, incredibly detailed but also helping you make sense of what everything means and how it is you'll be able to hit an enemy a series of times. After that, there's the bestiary. Separated by area, it's a helpful tool. Also showing you who your friend is. But beyond that, the game shows every Rare Game monster you can think of.

After all this we finally get to the walkthrough. It's spoiler free and details an optimal route through each section, while having lettered callouts on the map. Therefore, if you see "A" on the map, then look to the "A" section and read what you have to do. The walkthrough also details every extra as it comes up, pointing out that that's the best way to do them. Even if you decide not to do them at that moment, the "Extras" chapter will direct you to any page in the walkthrough that details a quest. It's a highly detailed walkthrough. If there was any complaint, it would be that boss strategies aren't detailed enough, nor does the guide provide you with enough screenshots. Don't think this means for a second this walkthrough won't help. It definitely will. It's far better than the BradyGAMES guide, but there are some things they might mention that you might need a screenshot so that you can figure out just what they're talking about.

With all the information packed into this guide you'd think page flipping would be a problem. It isn't. At the very back, there's an index that pinpoints you to everything the guide has. The guide is also spoiler free for anyone who is curious.

Piggyback has done it again. Crafting a guide that isn't just there to get you through the game, but helping to make sure you conquer it and leave no stone unturned. Piggyback hasn't just created a guidebook. They've created a friend.

Terrible, hope he hasn't written an FF8 guide 1 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This is a terrible guide. There isn't enough info on how to get all the rare materia. It doesn't mention that if you master a materia, you will get another with 0 AP. It doesn't talk about the Ancient Forest or Cactus Island. It even says "Ifrit-Ice damage to all foes". Can't the author tell the difference between Ifrit and Shiva!

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. IT SUCKS! 1 out of 5 stars.

This book leaves out so many important parts it's sad. Also, the amount of errors just keep adding up. Every time I look at it I find a new typo, error, or missed information.

    Best-selling novel: FF3 strategy guide. (Should've been.) 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is, without a doubt, the best game guide I have ever read. It is so smooth and well-written that it reads like a novel, and it quickly became my favorite book when I started reading it. My friend let me borrow the game, and I was uninterested at first, but the guide added so much to it that I kept it and ended up buying it from him. That's what makes a good strategy guide, I think. It sure made this one good.

as for the story 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

When I was a child, my uncle, who was 19 at the time, was playing "Final Fantasy 3" back when we numbered the Final Fantasies improperly, and he had this book. Before I even played the game, I read it. Then I read it again. And I read it again. It felt like a novel. Aside from the obvious intent of being a game strategy guide, parts of the prose is fantastic, and Olafson gleans so much from the story - theme, character, bits of dialogue that on first glance you wouldn't notice bearing as much meaning as they do in many of the scenes. Olafson doesn't get everything right. He can't. He tells what he knows, and what he knows, seems less to be gaming and more to be literary. I would get into arguments when "Final Fantasy 7" came out - which is better, Seven or Six, and I would argue Six, although Seven at the time had the best graphics there were (ugh) and thrilled me with its own story. But I had gotten something out of Six, with the help from Olafson, nobody looking at it briefly could. I don't think I can think of Six without thinking of this book. That may be bad. But it's an incredible story in my memory nonetheless.

I would not even bother with this guide 1 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

Okay, the Final Fantasy VIII Offcial Strategy Guide by David Cassady is much better than this! The only up over the official guide is that it has a recommended Junctions list.

To start off, the walkthrough is like reading an FAQ at GameFAQS.com, in other words, no screenshots, no maps, just words. Oh, did I mention that the pages are purple? Not to mention that you could easily go to Gamespot.com and find this EXACT SAME GUIDE only you'll have it for free.

There are no stats for bosses and almost no strategy is involved in the guide whatsoever. The guide needs more work because of the fact that with no screens and absolutely no strategy, it leaves for big improvements. If you go to gamespot though, they actually have screenshots.

The only other step above the official guide is that the guide has a final boss strategy. Its just a shame that the strategy is so horrible that it can't be done.

Now for the secrets. Umm.....what secrets? Oh thats right, the guide has none! I was thinking "hey its an unauthorized guide, it might have more secrets than the official", well, I was wrong about that. Luckily I returned the guide and got my money back.

let this be a lesson. Look before you buy, for the love of god look at the guide before you buy it. Now if this was a guide for FFIX it would've been better than the official guide by a long shot.

Overall: If you like GameFAQs and like to pay for guides when you could see the exact same thing online, this is the perfect guide for you! Then grimace in shame as you see the exact same thing at Gamespot.com.

Although it could have told me how to beat ruby weapon, I would recommend this guide to anyone who plays this game. The guide has exellent maps and boss strategies, but sometimes it gets somewhat confusing at times, but the awesome materia strategies and guides make up for this flaw. It also has a pretty good guide on weapons and armor, but lacks in items

Badly Laid out and edited, this book is a waste of paper 1 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book from a book store in my city, and never used it much (I had already beat the game and jes wanted something to read) upon further inspection, I found that this book was horrible. Spelling errors (Gained JP VP), bad lay out (she/her/hers), badly edited (Summoners using katanas, Oracles as strong nature magi), and even some stuff that didnt make any sense (Priest best spells "Gael, Gaelelga, Gaelelja"). also, the only reference at ALL to the Deep Dungeon is under the Zodiac Summoning spell. there are alot of other mistakes in it as well. there is also NO reference to guest/special characters and their ability JP costs.. all in all, buy the Prima one, it has to be 8 million times better

    Editorial Review:

Comprehensive walkthroughs and winning strategies are featured in this Final Fantasy Tactics guide. The game tells the tale of the War of the Lions from the point of view of a young warrior named Ramza. Good character development, a gripping story, and unpredictable battle-oriented gameplay ensure that this game will be hugely popular with the fans of this best-selling series. .
