If you are brand new to the world of network administration this is the book for you. It covers everything IN DEPTH, and will give you enough knowledge to function as a Junior Network Admin. It will give you the answers to questions most other books will not. This book is more of a text book for Network Administration as well as a cert guide. For those who are looking for a more "refresher book" or have been in the field for awhile, I recommend something that gets more down to the necessities of the test. I found this book a long read and since I have been in the Networking field for well over 4 years I switched to the Sybex 4th. edition. I still use this book as a reference book for things I don't understand and for real life issues.

I had to purchase this for a college class for Computer Fundamentals. This is the worst program I have ever used. It only allowed me to use the observe and apply feature. If I tried the other features, it locked the program up. Also half way through the session, the program locked up and I lost my work and would have to start over. Personally, I think the program is a rip off and I do not recommend it to anyone. I spent a lot of money for a program that never worked!!! I gave it one star only because I had to.

Make sure if you want it new don't buy on amazon 1 out of 5 stars.

I ordered this CD under the impression it was new. I did select the tab to show only new items and the seller's name was MBookstore. Boy was I wrong. I needed a new CD with the proper ID code from inside the box. The ID was already used and I wasted $35 on it.

This is a good book to prepare the Linux+ certification.
There are chapters on hardware and software in which you can find also basic informations those could be useful also for technicians to recall knowledge. If you are a Linux expert you could find too easy, but it gives you all you need to understand the topics of the exam.
I'll use it also as reference in the future.

It dont have electronic material. It is a con.
Another good book and a great complement is Roderick Smith's Linux+ Study Guide from Sybex...

This book has a good, thorough set of questions for all four areas of the Network+ 2005 cert exam and should leave you well prepared, provided you have the right background knowledge. Conversely, this book is not enough in and of itself to prepare the novice. Besides a good understanding of topologies, troubleshooting fundamentals, protocols, and internetworking, there's a few lists that simply require rote memorization: types and characteristics of media, 802.11 substandards, and media-specific 802.3 substandards. While you can try using this book to help with that memorization process, I found that creating lists of these things and memorizing from there first was more efficient.

Assuming you have a fair understanding of the material and have done the gruntwork on memorizing, this book should get you through your test with no surprises.

This book is in actual fact this book ISBN: 0619186135 HTi+ Guide to Home Networking but with all the end of chapter questions and answers plus a CD. As such it is a far better bargain the the original which is really a classroom student text. Use this with the HTi+ Exam Cram 2 (ignore the annoying typos) and you should have some good core study material. I gave the other original student text 5 stars anyway so 6 on this then?

turned out to be the wrong book but my professor liked this one better got me extra points and turned out great its multiple choice the whole book so thats a plus but yet all the information you need is still in there i learned alot about server 2003 after this
