Excellent Guide for Using Twitter to Build Business Relationships 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Like a lot of people, I initially viewed Twitter as a time-waster. Why would I want to hear about someone's order at the local coffee house or hear announcements about what flight they were about to board. Fortunately, I stuck around because Twitter now plays a BIG role in my business. Although I've been on Twitter for a while, I discovered some excellent strategies in Twitter Revolution; strategies for beginners as well as advanced users. The authors include good information on how to get setup, how to get followers and how to brand yourself on Twitter. They also cover many useful apps for using Twitter on your computer or cell phone. I definitely recommend this book for anyone that wants to create profitable relationships on Twitter.

Facebook: The Missing Manual Sneak Preview: Five Tips and Tricks
1. Never check the "Remember me" box when logging onto the site. (Doing so puts your account at unnecessary risk and saves you very little time or effort.)
2. When you register for the site, use your actual birthday so that your friends will get an automatic heads-up a few days before the Big Day (all the better to fete you with).
3. Never add compromising photos or info to your Facebook profile; bosses, teachers, hiring managers, and others can use legitimate means to see your profile *even if* you think you've adjusted your privacy settings to prevent them.
4. If you're on Facebook to find a gig (or a date), be sure to sprinkle keywords liberally in your profile descriptions. Doing so ups the odds of your appearing in other members' searches.
5. Before you fill out your profile, first head to the main menu and click the "privacy" link (little-p) and follow the steps in Chapter 12 of the book to customize who gets to see how much of your personal information.

PAUL GILLIN IS THE MAN ! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

What you don't know who Paul Gillin is ? If not it is time to learn. Mr. Gillin is the Guru for the use of Internet based social media.

In discussing his newest book I can safely use a very common phrase "you will learn everything you need to know" about interactive media and most of all how to use it to your advantage and fully. I defy anyone to find any topic or Website or technology related to social media today that is not included in "Secrets of Social Media Marketing." Let me save you some time. There aren't any. He covers the field completely.

If you are new to marketing yourself, your company, organization or cause on the Internet this new book is the indispensable guidebook you do not want to be without. If you are an experienced hand Paul Gillin's book is the tool you need to benchmark yourself against the best and find out IF you are really doing it as well as you think you are.

I could wax on and on about this brilliant Internet age sage but all I will do is delay you from placing your order. Do yourself and the larger world a favor do so right now right here and within days you will be smarter than anyone you know about fully utilizing the Internet as a communications platform.

Let me close by relating the challenge Mr. Gillin concludes his book. He recommends take one of your good ideas. Probably one of many you have thought about but never done anything to develop it. Use it as the basis for a simple Website, or blog. Apply all you will learn from carefully reading "Secrets Of Social Media Marketing."

Mr. Gillin is confident as you should be that with his book as your personal consultant you will do very well indeed. If that is not an absolute guarantee from Paul Gillin certainly consider it a guarantee from this very impressed reader who is going to do exactly what Mr. Gillin recommends

A Must-Read! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I have purchased and read a number of books about SEO, PPC and web usability -- as I manage the internet marketing campaign for our small business. We have a large PPC monthly spend & bid prices have continued to skyrocket -- so we have focused on improving our organic search results and also making our PPC campaigns more effective. But we never focused on how well our site converts -- until I read this book. I know this is a common remark I've read about other SEO tips or books -- someone will say that they hope their competitors never get ahold of the same information. Well, I'm always skeptical of those types of claims. But this book is truly an invaluable guide to making your web site more profitable and to convert your visitors into buyers. This is a must-read! And when I read it, I was thinking, I hope our competitors don't read this book -- because all those visitors who are clicking away from the competition because of poor site design can click over to us! And now that we've put these principles into practice, we'll be converting them into customers. I've never written a review on Amazon -- and I've bought & read a lot of books. But I just had to review this one, because it has impacted our web design in such a positive and productive way.

Editorial Review:

Call to Action includes the information businesses need to know to achieve dramatic results from online efforts. Are you planning for top performance? Are you accurately evaluating that performance? Are you setting the best benchmarks for measuring success? How well are you communicating your value proposition? Are you structured for change? Can you achieve the momentum you need to get the results you want? If you have the desire and commitment to create phenomenal online results, then this book is your call to action.

Within these pages, New York Times best-selling authors Bryan and Jeffrey Eisenberg walk you through the five phases that comprise web site development, from the critical planning phase, through developing structure, momentum, and communication, to articulating value. Along the way, they offer advice and practical applications culled from their years of experience "in the trenches."

GREAT BOOK FOR BEGINNERS AND INTERMEDIATES (ONLY)! 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

How to Buy, Sell & Profit on eBay by eBay PowerSeller Adam Ginsberg is a great guide to starting a business on eBay and becoming a successful seller. Although it is slightly dated (published in 2005), Ginsberg's decision to provide more general information about eBay makes it useful even now. His conversational style makes it seem more like a story about his journey to becoming a PowerSeller than a "how-to" book. While this narrative format makes it an easy (and, at times, amusing) read, it also makes it slightly difficult to quickly look up information that one may need off hand. Tips on any given topic are generally spread throughout the book. For example, although chapter 11 is titled "Tips, Tricks, and Advanced Techniques," these are also found well before this chapter. For a beginner or an intermediate seller this book is highly useful, nonetheless. They will learn the ins and outs of eBay with ways to make it work for them and distinguish them from the other millions of sellers on eBay. Topics include thinking like an entrepreneur, what to sell, payment and shipping, titles and descriptions, tax benefits and more. He also talks about the all-important feedback score on eBay. However, it has slightly changed since this book was written as sellers can no longer leave buyers negative feedback. For up-to-date information on eBay's policies, sellers should consult eBay.com.

Even with the constant reiteration of the products and services his company offers for eBay, How to Buy, Sell & Profit on eBay is a useful tool to begin the journey to PowerSeller and home-based business ownership. Ginsberg even throws in a few tips for buyers. "I tell buyers to type in common misspellings of the item they're looking for, because if they do, in fact, find that item misspelled, they'll probably be the only ones who do. It's a great way to find bargains on eBay. (165)"

Editorial Review:

A lively insider's guide to starting a successful small business selling items old and new on eBay, written with personal anecdotes, well–kept secrets, and insider tips by Adam Ginsberg, eBay's most successful private salesperson.

This is the insider's guide to making money on eBay. Adam Ginsberg is the most successful seller on eBay, moving around a million dollars' worth of merchandise every month. Not only will he impart his personal secrets on how to sell on eBay –learned through years of experience – and his tips on expanding your small business using eBay as a global market, but he'll also give fun side–notes and anecdotes, keeping the book lively and making it a fun and interesting read.

This book will be a must–have for all current and aspiring eBay sellers, all small–business owners, and anyone who wants to learn how to start a million–dollar company.

Uncle Harvey Sets Us Straight 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Wily ol' Harvey MacKay is a prototypical midwestern multimillionare. This means that even at his most Machiavellian, he comes across as a charming, down-to-earth folksy everyman - just the sort of person James Stewart used to play. This is Mr. MacKay's first book and it's well-worth reading for anybody who'd like to know more about why some people succeed in business while most fail. Some may dismiss many of Mr. MacKay's advice as merely 'common sense' but given that so many of us fall short of financial and personal success I doubt that the knowledge in here is all that common.

On the positive side, we have a successful business leader who stresses the importance of ethics, personal integrity, and steady hard work. I've rarely encountered a management or business-oriented author who stressed strength of character as much as Mr. MacKay does. He also tells personal anecdotes with a refreshing lack of swagger. This book may have first been written in the 1980s but Harvey MacKay does not reflect the Era of Greed at all. It's little wonder he's in demand as an inspirational public speaker, and that he still publishes a weekly advice/inspiration column.

Of course, in any book this old, there are bound to be dated sections and those are the only real negatives. Mr. MacKay's hiring practices (in which employees are visited and interviewed in their own homes so that he can learn more about their family values, yet in which no one calls to verify personal references) would raise a lot of eyebrows today. There's also an over-reliance on sports analogies. Other reviewers have noted this but I would like to add that Mr. MacKay's love of sports anecdotes reflects his age, because sports heroes and coaches of the past were not the money-driven free agents of today.

In sum, this would be a good graduation gift, or a welcome present for anyone beginning a job within the corporate world. Unlike many advice books, I left this one not only with good advice but also with a sense of who the author really was. And, I have to say, I enjoy Harvey MacKay a lot.

Excellent- From Basic info to More Advanced all in One! 5 out of 5 stars.
32 of 32 people found this review helpful.

This book was a real surprise. I fully expected to use it as a resource for new Ebay/Web commerce users that we help teach but found it excelled not only in the basics but in pretty much the whole plan of where you would want to be online in the long run. I am particulary fond of books that discuss legal and accounting set up and this one covers a lot of good info like type of organization, record keeping, copyrights and trademarks, a tax overview etc. A great foundation for the new online business. There is a lot of information regarding web site design, internet security and boosting your sales. Usually many books would leave off in this area but not this one. It has information on taking your retail business online , selling from a storefront and covers some important ideas like affiliate marketing and finding a niche. Whether deciding to operate on Ebay or with your own website this book is jam packed with information. Even as an experienced online user I found myself making notes from many of the sections in the book including those with suggestions on what to do to expand sales, deal with changes and other customer issues. Just as a note this is one huge book. Over 800 pages including the index and for the price a bargain. For Ebayers I would recommend this book and a general Ebay book as a package to buy. If working directly on your own e-commerce site I would recommend this book with with a web 2.0 or social marketing book.

Editorial Review:

  • Eleven minibooks comprising nearly 800 pages offer would-be online entrepreneurs all the information they need to launch an e-business and succeed in today's marketplace
  • Unlike competing guides, this book explains how to redesign a site, retool marketing strategies, and run a nonprofit site as well as offering in-depth coverage of how to secure a site and move from retail to e-tail
  • Minibooks cover online business basics, legal and accounting matters, Web site design, operational issues once a business is up and running, Internet security, how to boost sales, taking a brick-and-mortar business online, storefront selling at eBay and elsewhere, fundraising at a nonprofit site, running a niche e-business, and advanced e-commerce techniques and strategies
