About the Author
Michael Wohl is best known as one of the principal designers of Final Cut Pro, a role he held for more than five years. As a director and editor, he has won numerous awards including the coveted CINE Golden Eagle award in 1993. Michael’s films have been featured in film festivals worldwide, and his first feature, “WANT,” will be released on DVD in 2006. He has taught classes on editing, directing, and digital filmmaking at institutions including the American Film Institute, UCLA, and Pixar University, and has been a featured speaker at film festivals and conferences including DV Expo, South by Southwest, and Macworld Expo.

Pretty Pictures, Piddling Information 2 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for full price ($24.95) at a Waldenbooks store when I was pressed for time. Not a good idea; and in this case, an expensive mistake. I do agree with the gentleman from Winnemucca, NV, who said that the book has high quality graphics and looks very good. (That's why I bought it without doing any research -- or even looking through it very carefully!)

However, virtually all of the information in the book can be found faster and more completely documented by using the Mac Help menu on your Tiger equipped Mac. And the book doesn't even tell you how to install new software or make a copy of a CD or DVD.

In summary, this book might be helpful to a person who has never used a computer--any computer--before, but it is of no value at all to anyone else. If you feel you must have it despite what I've said, definitely buy it here rather than pay full retail for it as I did. At least that way you won't waste as much money.

This is by far the best book yet on ANY version of OS X, and lives up to the Bible name. Its combination of reader-friendliness and comprehensiveness in unparalleled as far as I can tell. The writing is straightforward, complete, and extremely well organized, with Unix coverage that seems to be useful rather than "geeky" (which makes me actually want to get into that stuff). I've only had this for a couple of days and it's already saved me time and hassle with setting up my home network. Wow! Nice job, guys!

Might not have much for experienced power users. .Mac is easy to use and most things you can figure out by yourself. I bought this book before signing up for .MAC ... if I would have known how easy it is to use and how good the apple online documentation is, I probably would not have bought it. But it gave me a good overview of what is possible with .MAC and convinced me further in signing up for .MAC.
