ok but not great 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This book contains quite some materials from the book you can also find them in Apple's documentations. It also has quite some details on Joe Hewitt's iUI framework. But generally speaking, it lacks more detailed explanation (on CSS, AJAX, JavaScript). Here's the dilema: if you are an experienced CSS and JavaScript developer, you will find it lacking the depth. It barely scratches the surface of what real AJAX-powered iPhone applications can do. If you are somewhat a newbie developer, you will need more explanation on the subject. Unfortunately, this book falls in-between the above 2 scenarios.

After all, this is the first and only book on iPhone programming, it's a nice start for anyone that's interested.

Editorial Review:

The Safari-exclusive applications for iPhone and iPod touch assemble various elements, and this book shows you how to integrate these elements with key design concepts and principles in order to develop a highly usable interface for the touch screen. You’ll learn to use existing open-source libraries in your code, imitate the overall look and feel of built-in Apple applications, and migrate existing Web 2.0 apps and sites to this new mobile platform. By the end of the book, you’ll feel untouchable as you create a custom mobile application from scratch.

A Review From A Wireless Capacity Planning Mgr.'s Perspectiv 4 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

I thought this book gives an excellent overview at the 10,000 foot level of all the related technologies. It's perfect for someone in either a Technical Manager or a Senior Manager role to understand the basic vibe of what these technologies are and how they work without getting bogged down into too much "bits and bytes" level detail.

I found the book to be a bit lacking on some dimensioning and planning details and methodologies though.

Overall, it's a good book to reference with.

Used CWSP study guide - passed exam this week 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I am currently pushing forward in the Security Arean and getting a grasp at a deep technical level of the challenges faced by Security Professionals. With this in mind it would be a mistake not to take a look at wireless and understand the ramifications for implementing it in an organization. Even for a home user a fundamental understanding of WEP verus WPA versus WPA2 is recommended and to understand the ramifications for buying a wireless client that only supports WEP or even no security mechanism at all.

With all the above said, I wanted to study for CWSP and purchased the study guide and learn at a deep technical level wireless security issues. I think its unfair to only label this book a study guide - I have passed the exam and will reference this book many times as I progress in my career. I have other certifications and generally end up throwing the study guides away because they were so focussed on getting me through an exam versus teaching me the entire subject matter arena they are of little use to me afterwards unless I require a door wedge.

I strongly recommend this book not only to those studying for CWSP, or even evaluating whether they want to put the time into passing the exam and see the material they need to digest, but also to those people in the field challenged with supporting wireless infrastructures. I also recommend the book to home users that might be concerned about the possibilities of sharing their Cable Modem or DSL connections with unathorized neighbors or war drivers because they want to buy a wireless router to have the freedom in their homes to use their internet connection anywhere.

The book compliments the certification in quality and accuracy.

Editorial Review:

Android is a new software toolkit for mobile phones, created by Google and the Open Handset Alliance. In a few years, it's expected to be found inside millions of cell phones and other mobile devices, making Android a major platform for application developers. That could be your own program running on all those devices.

Getting started developing with Android is easy. You don't even need access to an Android phone, just a computer where you can install the Android SDK and the phone emulator that comes with it. Within minutes, "Hello, Android" will get you creating your first working application: Android's version of "Hello, World."

From there, you'll build up a more substantial example: an Android Sudoku game. By gradually adding features to the game throughout the course of the book, you'll learn about many aspects of Android programming including user interfaces, multimedia, and the Android life cycle.

If you're a busy developer who'd rather be coding than reading about coding, this book is for you. To help you find what you need to know fast, each chapter ends with "Fast forward" section. These sections provide guidance for where you should go next when you need to read the book out of order.

Based on familiar circuit theory and basic physics, this book serves as an invaluable reference for both analog and digital engineers alike. For those who work with analog RF, this book is a must-have resource. With computers and networking equipment of the 21st century running at such high frequencies, it is now crucial for digital designers to understand electromagnetic fields, radiation and transmission lines. This knowledge is necessary for maintaining signal integrity and achieving EMC compliance. Since many digital designers are lacking in analog design skills, let alone electromagnetics, an easy-to-read but informative book on electromagnetic topics should be considered a welcome addition to their professional libraries.

Major rewrite of the best web testing book 5 out of 5 stars.
26 of 26 people found this review helpful.

This is more than a minor update of the first edition of this highly regarded book - it's a major rewrite with added material on mobile web testing.

As in the earlier book, this one clearly shows the differences between traditional testing and web testing, which will provide QA professionals who are moving from older environments into web-based systems an orientation and direction. For new QA professionals the chapters on software testing basics, networking and web application components provide a solid foundation. The chapter on mobile web application platforms is unique to this book, and adds true value. Other core material includes test planning, and a sample application and test plan to add realistic scenarios to the material.

Web-specific test advice encompasses UI, functional, server-side, database, help, installation, compatibility, security and performance testing. These cover all facets of the test process and associated procedures in a web-centric environment. Additional chapters include using test scripts, testing mobile web applications, and web testing tools.

While the core content is on the mark and accurate, the appendices are as invaluable. These include a test plan template, weekly status report template, error analysis checklist (with error examples), UI test-case design guidelines (common keyboard navigation/shortcut matrix and mouse action matrix web), test-case design guideline: input boundary and validation matrix, display compatibility test matrix, and browser/OS configuration matrix.

If you test web systems this is the most complete book you can read, and it is destined to attain the same 'classic' status as the first edition.

Editorial Review:

* Includes updates to material on testing Web applications.
* Contains new coverage of testing for wireless applications.
* From the coauthor of the bestselling testing book of all time.
* Each test type is backed up with a testing example and error examples.
