This book is an example of Project Management Failure 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have two copies and both are defective. Pages 158, 159, 162, 163, 165, and 166 are blank, leaving me to wonder about the answers to questions 150-151, 158-163, and 169-174. There was no quality control in this book project. I guess the WBS really did Break Down!!!!

Editorial Review:

"If the purpose is to create one of the best books on requirements yet written, the authors have succeeded." --Capers Jones It is widely recognized that incorrect requirements account for up to 60 percent of errors in software products, and yet the majority of software development organizations do not have a formal requirements process. Many organizations appear willing to spend huge amounts on fixing and altering poorly specified software, but seem unwilling to invest a much smaller amount to get the requirements right in the first place. Mastering the Requirements Process, Second Edition, sets out an industry-proven process for gathering and verifying requirements with an eye toward today's agile development environments. In this total update of the bestselling guide, the authors show how to discover precisely what the customer wants and needs while doing the minimum requirements work according to the project's level of agility.Features include *The Volere requirements process--completely specified, and revised for compatibility with agile environments*A specification template that can be used as the basis for your own requirements specifications *New agility ratings that help you funnel your efforts into only the requirements work needed for your particular development environment and project*How to make requirements testable using fit criteria*Iterative requirements gathering leading to faster delivery to the client*Checklists to help identify stakeholders, users, nonfunctional requirements, and more *Details on gathering and implementing requirements for iterative releases*An expanded project sociology section for help with identifying and communicating with stakeholders*Strategies for exploiting use cases to determine the best product to build *Methods for reusing requirements and requirements patterns *Examples showing how the techniques and templates are applied in real-world situations

Good Practical advice 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The book offers good practical advice that can be used in the development of a Business Intelligence (BI) project / initiative. The over all road map provides a check list of issues to consider and offers a place to start in planning your own initiative. It is a good reference for individuals starting a BI project for the first time.

Great for a PM 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Am currently in the process of executing a DW/BI project, my background is JAVA application Project management. This book has been great in getting me upto speed on the basic architecture and lingo of BI/DW.

Book lays out step by step the different parts to a DW. The front office, the back office, meta data repository. Highlights how DW/BI phases are different from other application dev phases. It doesn't go into how to do data modelling - for this get the lifecycle toolkit. But it gives a great overview of planning a BI/DW initiative. Much better than the pure Project Management books.
To get a complete picture I'd use this book along with the Toolkit book.

Editorial Review:

Provides a complete methodology for everything from strategic planning to the selection of new technologies and the evaluation of application releases. A visual guide to developing an effective BI decision-support application. Softcover. CD-ROM included.

Editorial Review:

Get the practical guidance you need to apply Scrum enterprise wide--straight from a leader and innovator in the agile process movement. Agile development methods, such as Scrum, have been shown to produce improvements in speed, quality, and cost. However, the practices within Scrum, such as self-managing teams, are often so different from the norm at most enterprises and cause an organizational reaction. The productivity and quality benefits of Scrum pose a compelling reason to make such changes--moving it from the small team to the enterprise level. And as Scrum crosses to the mainstream, executives need to know how to manage the necessary change processes. In addition, managers and employees alike want to know what the change means to them, personally. With case studies and pragmatic approaches, this book shows development managers and developers how to extend Scrum from one or two projects within an engineering organization to the larger enterprise. It also addresses the questions that newcomers have regarding process, interaction, reports, habits, tradeoffs, and more.

Introducing Autodesk Inventor 2009 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

As a Certified Autodesk Instructor for over 15 years, I found this manual to be an excellent resource for an introduction to Autodesk Inventor 3D solid modeling and 2D documentation in general. As a user of Autodesk Inventor for over 10 years; I believe this publication provides very intuitive insight to the philosophy and recommended approach to modeling and drawing creation within Autodesk Inventor.

The examples used in the book use standard sample files included with Autodesk Inventor; and the Companion Website found on the back cover [...] includes accompanying tutorials which add a plethora of additional information.

I personally recommend this book to any users that desire a quick and easy introduction to basic 3D modeling and 2D drawing documentation creation utilizing Autodesk Inventor.

Keith Bradford
