Poor source of reference 2 out of 5 stars.

Having 'played' around with MSCS for 1 year now on NT4 I'm still looking for good sources of reference for this technology, and unfortuneatly this is not it! In a lot of cases his explanations are very basic, and a lot of his examples don't make sense, and in some cases have serious errors. There is also far too much information that is not relevent to MSCS (have 32 pages of a registry dump with little explanation is not very useful!) After waiting months for this book to appear I was disappointed at the content, particularly when it turned up without the CD

Editorial Review:

NT is growing faster than any other operating system today, and Osborne's authoritative Windows NT Professional Library brings recognized industry leaders to hot topics, discussing implementation, tuning and design solutions. Master clustering-a key tool in building large-scale mission-critical enterprise applications and systems, including OLAP, online transaction processing, decision support and messaging systems; code named Wolfpack, this project has been widely anticipated by the NT community; expert author Richard Lee (NASA's data storage and retrieval expert) covers architecture and capabilities, configuring key system requirements, and troubleshooting holes and problems; implement value added solutions with unique CD loaded with utilities, applications and demos.

Super book 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is one of the best I have seen in Neural and computer intelligence. Highly recommend if you are a student, academia, computer R&D or hobbyist.

Wish somebody published this before I started following Neural networks or computer intelligence

Editorial Review:

Many monitoring, forecasting, and control operations occur in settings where relationships among key measurements must be learned quickly. Examples are on-line industrial processes where influent material is not consistent over time, energy load or price forecasting where demand characteristics change rapidly, and health management where relationships among monitored variables must be learned for each patient-treatment combination. The solution presented is a new neuro-computing system that learns in real-time, even when data arrival rates are several million measurements per second. The book describes benefits and features of the system, statistical foundations for the system, and several related models. The book also describes available system software.

Editorial Review:

The Paralation Model introduces a way of programming parallel computers that is easy to use for general problem solving, and will work for many different parallel computer architectures with any number of processors, from one to billions. The book includes working LISP source code for a mini compiler, along with many programming examples.

Parallel computers can often be impossibly hard to program. The paralation model that Gary Sabot describes is a breakthrough in its simplicity and well defined semantics and can serve as a useful and stable semantic staging point for parallel language research. Consisting of a new data structure and a small, irreducible set of operators, the model has a number of useful features: it can be combined with any base language to produce a concrete parallel language; it makes explicit and transparent the cost of both processing and communication, often ignored by shared memory and data flow models; and it serves as a precise tool for a programmer while simultaneously supplying a compiler with an abundance of useful information for a variety of target architectures. This decouples advances and changes in parallel computer design from the design of application programs: old paralation programs can take advantage of new computers without sacrificing efficiency.

Gary Sabot is a research scientist in the advanced architecture group of Thinking Machines Corporation where he is helping to design future generations of parallel supercomputers. The Paralation Model is included in the Artificial Intelligence series, edited by Patrick Winston, Michael Brady, and Daniel Bobrow.

Editorial Review:

This original text provides comprehensive coverage of parallel algorithms and architectures, beginning with fundamental concepts and continuing through architectural variations and aspects of implementation. Unlike the authors of similar texts, Professor Parhami reviews the circuit model and problemdriven parallel machines, variants of mesh architectures, and composite and hierarchical systems, among other subjects. With its balanced treatment of theory and practical designs, classtested lecture material and problems, and helpful case studies, the book is suited to graduate and upperlevel undergraduate students of advanced architecture or parallel processing.

Editorial Review:

Communication and concurrency are essential in understanding complex dynamic systems, and there have been many theories to deal with them such as Petri nets, CSP and ACP. Among them, CCS (process calculus is one of the most important and mathematically developed models of communication and concurrency. Various behavior equivalences between agents, such as (strong and weak) bisimilarity, observation congruence, trace equivalence, testing equivalence and failure equivalence, are central notions in process calculus. In the real applications of process calculus, specification and implementation are described as two agents, correctness of programs is treated as a certain behavior equivalence between specification and implementation, and then the proof of correctness of programs is a task to establish some behavior equivalence between them. The goal of this book is to provide some suitable and useful concepts and tools for the understanding and analysis of approximate c! orrectness of programs in concurrent systems. Throughout this book the focus is on the framework of process calculus, and the main idea is to construct some natural and reasonable topological structures which can reveal suitably a mechanism of approximate computation in process calculus and to work out various relationships among processes which are compatible with these topological structures.

Editorial Review:

Consumer Behavior provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform consumer analyses that can be used for understanding markets and developing effective marketing strategies. The authors have developed what they call the Wheel of Consumer Analysis, which is a tool to help the reader understand how consumer affect and cognition, consumer behavior, consumer environment, and marketing strategy interact. The wheel is a powerful tool for analyzing consumer behavior and can be used to understand consumers and to guide the development of effective marketing strategies.
