If you read the first book, you have to read the second. This book was a joy to read. I couldn't put it down. Every time I picked it up, I just couldn't stop reading. If you love green lantern then you have to get this book.

Outstanding 5 out of 5 stars.

I can't add too much to what's already been written. It is a great finish to a great story with some of the best science fiction characters you'll find anywhere, and not just in comics or graphic novels.

More epic than vol 1 and Better than the movie 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This tale adds several new characters including John Carter and Dr. Moreau, who are not members of the League. In a play on the classic HG Wells story, Earth is attacked by Mars and it looks like the League is Earth's only hope.

The Martians are as deadly as Wells imagined them. Earth's weapons are no match, and the Martians have so many war machines that even the Nautilus cannot defeat them all.

This time there is treachery and intrigue within the League. Much of it revolves around the strong yet mysterious Mina as her relationships with the various characters change. Readers learn much about Mr. Hyde in a dining room scene that shows how effectively a graphic novel can tell a story.

This story is not for children. Filled with violence and peppered with sex, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol 2 is a thrilling action / adventure story that any adult should enjoy.

Editorial Review:

The inspiration behind the blockbuster movie, THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN once again uses the classic characters from familiar literature to tell a tale of epic proportions in Victorian England. In volume two, when alien invaders from Mars mercilessly attack London, the throne quickly calls upon Allan Quatermain, Mina Harker, Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, and Dr. Jekyll to protect the empire. Using their various skills and intellect, the League goes about preparing a defense against the invasion but when the Invisible Man joins the Martian's cause, all appears to be lost. Now, as one of the members dies a horrific death, the League turns to the legendary Dr. Moreau as their last desperate hope.

Good Old Xmen Fun 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I haven't bought comics for a long time and only resort to buying Hardcovers or Trade Paperbacks for my comic book fix. I was reluctant to buy Xmen Messiah Complex because I've heard that most crossovers have not lived up their billings. But after reading this at one sitting, I must admit that the art, story, characterization, action, tone, and complexity was very very impressive and well-done.

I found the new X-teams hard to grasp, but after a few more pages, it wasn't that hard to follow. The backstories or what comic book enthusiasts call continuity was done so that we all can understand without a back history of stories. The art was fantastic to the max.

I'd recommend this hardcover if you enjoy a good "mystery" style story with tons of action, killings, and kids learning how to fit into being heroes. This is a good Marvel crossover and there's not that many out there.

Highly recommended.

A MUST HAVE FOR HEROES FANS! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

If you are a Heroes fan you should get this. The art is great and the stories are equally good. This is NOT just a redo of the show. It is extensions, fill-ins and extra stories streaming along the same vein as the TV show. I just finished this one and I can't wait for volume 2!

Questions anwered 4 out of 5 stars.

This booked helped to fill in some of the gaps left by the show, and at the same time raised some new ones. I recommend this book to die hard fans of the heroes series. You will not get the full experience if you don't pick it up.

A metaphor for us all 5 out of 5 stars.

Human being equals potential. Granted, we're not superheroes with superpowers. Yet the powers that we have are not minor, and we all have to find our way in life, discovering what we should do with what we have.

Hiro is my favorite, he's so like most of us, flawed, weak at times, resolute and strong at other times, passionate, dedicated, and always wants to do what's right. But I also think the actors in the TV series are perfectly cast. And the result is magic.

This is beautifully made, drawn, colored. You won't find better comic art that this, certainly on a level with "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley or "Watchmen" by Alan Moore. It is a joy to pick up and read or just browse through. Also, it adds some vital background information to the stories.

If you like the TV series, this book is highly recommended to you.

Editorial Review:

This stunning hardcover collects the amazing online comics based on the smash-hit, Emmy Award-nominated NBC show HEROES!

The comics included have been written and illustrated by some of comics' and television's top writers and artists, including Michael Turner, Phil Jimenez, Marcus To, and more!

Buckle up, it's a great ride. 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Geoff Johns and the DC team have done it again. I'm a Green Lantern fan from the 60's, so I know Hal Jordan well. It is great to see him and the other Green Lanterns fighting Sinestro, the baddest of the bad and his own corps. I agree with a previous reviewer that the story is so deep and some pages are so richly done that I had to stop and check Wikipedia or one of the GL web sites to get more information. But, don't let that stop you if you've ever read Green Lantern or seen one or more of them in a TV cartoon, and liked what you saw. Trust the old Silver Age fan with matching silver hair, you will not be disappointed. My only caveat is, you most likely will have to come back and purchase volume 2; be sure to budget for that. Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

The Sinestro Corps has declared war on the Green Lanterns in the smash-hit epic of the summer! This blockbuster story sold out one comic book issue after another, leading to many reprintings to keep up with demand!

Legendary Green Lantern Hal Jordan has returned to the Corps and has once again pledged to defend Earth and the rest of Sector 2418 from evil. But now his arch-nemesis and former mentor, Sinestro, has assembled an army of his own -- one dedicated to spreading fear throughout the galaxy.

A Great Series Gets Better 5 out of 5 stars.

In this second volume of Justice, the world has to come to terms with the absence of the core members of the Justice League. What will the people do in a world where the major heroes are missing and the worlds villians are acting like heroes? Who is really behind the team up of the worlds villians and their atypical behavior? What will the second-tier heroes of the Justice League do when they discover that the Justice League is missing in action? All these questions and more are answered in this volume.

This is one of the best looking comic books on the market. It's definitely worth picking up for it's beautiful art in addition to it's gripping story. I highly recommend it.

Editorial Review:

Eisner Award-winning painter Alex Ross has stunned fans time and again with his artwork in books including KINGDOM COME and THE WORLD'S GREATEST SUPER-HEROES. Now one of comics' greatest artists turns his attention to the greatest heroes of the DC Universe: the Justice League of America!

In this volume, a conspiracy of villains has found a way to defeat the Justice League, while looking like heroes to the public. Will the JLA's reserve members be enough to turn the tide against the villains?

Decent, if flawed retelling of Hal Jordan's origin 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The ending of "Sinestro Corps War" left Green Lantern fans exited and anxious for the future of Corps and the mysterious "Blackest Night" storyline that will dominate the summer of 2009. As we march closer to the end, however, Geoff Johns has chosen instead to turn to the past and to the beginning of the career of Earth's most famous Green Lantern, Hal Jordan.

"Secret Origin", in essence, is a retelling of Hal Jordan's origin, and there's something different for both old and new readers. First up is the artwork. While the departure of longtime Green Lantern colorist Moose Bauman is felt, Ivan Reis' pencils and Occlair Albert's inks remain as fine and as detailed as always and I hope they remain on the title for the long-term.

Now, onto the story. For new readers, "Secret Origin" is the perfect jumping on-point for anyone that has been drawn into the Lantern mythos as a result of the "Sinestro Corps War" storyline. Everything you need to know about the mythos can be gleaned from this introductory tale, from Hal and his family to the Guardians, Sinestro himself, and more.

For the older readers, however, "Secret Origin" may be a tad boring. Many of the scenes of Hal's youth and training have been shown repeatedly since 2004's "Green Lantern: Rebirth" and the beginning of the current volume. In addition, Johns retcons several of his own retcons from earlier in his run and given the level of attention and detail he usually applies to his work, it's annoying. Fans of 1988's "Emerald Dawn" may also feel disconcerted over seeing what was the-then retelling of Hal's origin wiped from continuity.

That having been said, there 's still a fair amount of intrigue for the older readers. Seeds are planted for "The Blackest Night" and the current "Rage of the Red Lanterns" storyline, seeds that should given fans plenty of enjoyment as they attempt to discern how they will affect events in the present and near-future. Ultimately, "Secret Origin" is a flawed, but worthy outing from Maestro Johns and company.

Batman gives us some twists and turns 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Batman started out as a dark brooding vigilante who had no problem pounding the pavement to get what he wants. Loeb and Lee seem to capture that flavor in a somewhat convoluted and complex storyline involving yet a new villain who somehow manages to coordinate the lunatics of Gotham (Crock, Poison Ivy, Riddler, Joker, etc., etc.) In addition we have Catwoman and the strange relationship with Batman taking a new twist.
The story is quite complex. Batman and Catwoman team up to figure out the connection between a parade of villains and situations that seem a bit unrelated but enough subtle clues to tie in the connections. Lee's art works extremely well presenting us with broad splash panels and detailed characterizations. I was impressed but there is an argument to be said for lack of innovation. This was a monthly when first published and innovation can break deadlines -- I got that.
My only pet peeve is the complexity of the story. Way too many villains and too many plot twists that make the story impossible in many ways to accept but I was so caught up in the brooding Batman coming to terms with his life that I was able to ignore the ridiculous plot threads that were explained in the end, still feel very contrived. It's still a terrific read that I found fun. More streamlined plots would have made the story richer especially with more time spent with Bruce's boyhood friend.

More uneven Batman fair. 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Had this collection only included the outstanding Black Glove storyline from Grant Morrison and JH Williams, I would have purchased it. This is a handsome hardcover volume with a beautifully rendered cover with contents worthy of the deluxe treatment.
The downside is that after the 3 issues illustrated by Williams, the art chores for the remainder of the book fall to Tony Daniel, who's usually good pencil work is ruined by inker Jonathan Glapion.
The editors seem to be trying to create a "Jim Lee-a-like" art style here, but what they end up with is a mess the reader will have to endure rather than enjoy. Check out Tony Daniel's online Batman pencil work without inks and you'll see what a botch job this is. While William's work is fluid, consistant and clean, Daniel & Glapion's work is scruffy, uneven and messy. They don't belong in the same book.
I wish DC would clean up their act when it comes to Batman. It is hard to believe they can't find a consistantly good art team to handle their most popular character.
Why bother bringing in big name writers like Morrison if his scripts are butchered by poor artwork. Can we get this series back on track please?
