Great examples from the book for subfile programmers 5 out of 5 stars.

A great resource for subfile programming! The authors had done their homework on subfiles. This book is a must...for your library and for work.

Some nice techniques... 3 out of 5 stars.

This book showed some very nice subfile techniques, although I have to wonder if some of them would ever be worth the extra coding involved (e.g. multiple views vs. multiple line subfiles). I had problems executing the files on the diskette that came with it and, therefore, couldn't get the code to upload to my AS/400.

Editorial Review:

Among the most exciting developments in science today is the design and construction of the quantum computer. Its realization will be the result of multidisciplinary efforts, but ultimately, it is mathematics that lies at the heart of theoretical quantum computer science.Mathematics of Quantum Computation brings together leading computer scientists, mathematicians, and physicists to provide the first interdisciplinary but mathematically focused exploration of the field's foundations and state of the art. Each section of the book addresses an area of major research, and does so with introductory material that brings newcomers quickly up to speed. Chapters that are more advanced include recent developments not yet published in the open literature.Information technology will inevitably enter into the realm of quantum mechanics, and, more than all the atomic, molecular, optical, and nanotechnology advances, it is the device-independent mathematics that is the foundation of quantum computer and information science. Mathematics of Quantum Computation offers the first up-to-date coverage that has the technical depth and breadth needed by those interested in the challenges being confronted at the frontiers of research.

Editorial Review:

In contemporary society, people are supported by computers in many ways in their everyday lives. Personal computers have an internal computer and can be used to access the Internet and for many other purposes. The name of this internal computer, an embedded computer, is rarely noted, but it is used to run and control many computerized devices. Nearly all these computers are microcomputers that are marketed in chip form. The H8 by Hitachi that is discussed in this manual is a representative type of microcomputer. Even though microcomputers are in common use, most textbooks assume that the reader has already acquired a fundamental knowledge of them, and it has become rather difficult to find good information at the introductory level. This manual was designed for future engineers in mind, and explains how microcomputers are used based on the H8 as an example. The instructions and signal terminal operation vary from one product to another, but the basic approach to! microcomputing is largely the same. The basic material that you learn in this book through using the H8 can be applied to other microcomputers as well.

Still germane 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Throughout the 1990s, IBM's version of unix, AIX, had some of the most advanced features of any commercial unix. For instance, its SMIT GUI let sysadmins easily handle many duties. The alternative could be a manual typing of what were often intricate command lines, with many arguments to the various commands. Needless to say, the book goes into explaining SMIT at some length. It was a vital part of AIX's attraction.

AIX also had the ability to have journalled file systems, and to dynamically increase the size of a partition without having to reboot the system. For several years, Solaris and HPUX required a reboot.

Of course, this book was written before IBM officially decided to throw its weight behind linux. Nowadays, IBM is in the process of merging AIX into linux. But the advice given in the book is still mostly germane.

Editorial Review:

This updated guide reviews the AIX operating system and provides in-depth coverage of RS/6000 systems, as well as tips on productivity, network configuration, and more.
