Editorial Review:

In her acclaimed Women of the Otherworld series, bestselling author Kelley Armstrong creates a present day in which humans unwittingly coexist with werewolves, witches, and other supernatural beings. Now, in this spellbinding new novel, a beautiful necromancer who can see ghosts must come to terms with her power—and with an evil she never thought possible.

It’s the most anticipated reality television event of the season: three spiritualists gathered together in one house to raise the ghost of Marilyn Monroe. For celebrity medium Jaime Vegas, it is to be her swan song—one last publicity blast for a celebrity on the wrong side of forty. But unlike her colleagues, who are more show than substance, Jaime is the real thing.

Reluctant to upstage her fellow spiritualists, Jaime tries to suppress her talents, as she has done her entire life. But there is something lurking in the maze of gardens behind the house: a spirit without a voice. And it won’t let go until somehow Jaime hears its terrible story. For the first time in her life, Jaime Vegas understands what humans mean when they say they are haunted. Distraught, Jaime looks to fellow supernatural Jeremy Danvers for help.

As the touches and whispers from the garden grow more frantic, Jaime and Jeremy embark on an investigation into a Los Angeles underworld of black magic and ritual sacrifice. When events culminate in a psychic showdown, Jaime must use the darkest power she has to defeat a shocking enemy—one whose malicious force comes from the last realm she expected. . . .

In a world whose surface resembles our own, Kelley Armstrong delivers a stunning alternate reality, one where beings of the imagination live, love, and fight a never-ending battle between good and evil.

Editorial Review:

From one of today’s most original writers comes the mesmerizing tale of an exceptional young woman caught up in an otherworldly realm where some will stop at nothing to get what they want.

Paige Winterbourne was always either too young or too rebellious to succeed her mother as leader of one of the world’s most powerful elite organizations—the American Coven of Witches. Now that she is twenty-three and her mother is dead, the Elders can no longer deny her. But even Paige’s wildest antics can’t hold a candle to those of her new charge—an orphan who is all too willing to use her budding powers for evil...and evil is all too willing to claim her. For this girl is being pursued by a dark faction of the supernatural underworld. They are a vicious group who will do anything to woo the young, malleable, and extremely powerful neophyte, including commit murder—and frame Paige for the crime. It’s an initiation into adulthood, womanhood, and the brutal side of magic that Paige will have to do everything within her power to make sure they both survive.

Refreshingly Different. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

After I read the latest Kim Harrison novel, I decided I'd try another book centered around demons. I was very annoyed at the reviews on here bashing the erotic content. All of the best Laurell K Hamilton books have been slammed for erotic content and I'm sick of it. This book is NOT centered around sex, there is actually a plot. This book is very refreshing and different in a world of cookie cutter dark fantasy books. I don't mind that the main character already has a boyfriend at the start of the book, it just adds more to the plot. The concept is original, and I can't wait to find out more about the demon world presented in this novel.

Editorial Review:

Posession. Murder. Mayhem.
Let the games begin...

Exorcism isn’t a job, it’s a calling—and a curse. Just ask Morgan Kingsley, a woman who has a stronger aura than any Demon. Or so she thought. Now, in a pair of black leather pants and a kick-ass tattoo, Morgan is heading back to Philadelphia after a nasty little exorcism—and her life is about to be turned upside down…by the Demon that’s gotten inside her.

Not just any Demon. Six foot five inches of dark, delicious temptation, this one is to die for—that is, if he doesn’t get Morgan killed first. Because while some humans vilify Demons and others idolize them, Morgan’s Demon is leading a war of succession no human has ever imagined. For a woman trying to live a life, and hold on to the almost-perfect man, being possessed by a gorgeous rebel Demon will mean a wild ride of uninhibited thrills, shocking surprises, and pure, unadulterated terror. . . .

4.5 Stars - Good Book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I just finished the fourth book in the Kitty Norville series earlier today. The first two were a little slow for me, and I couldn't put down the last two! I was very interested in Kitty's growth from vulnerable follower to independent individual to strong leader, and this series has not let me down. As for the book... the homecoming, the family story, the paranatural war, and the relationships kept me entertained. Kitty's personal issue was unexpected, and it also added depth to the book.

There are a couple of things that took away from the good storytelling. Although I have a degree in English myself and understood the narrator's literary allusions, I still found them a bit pretentious for commercial fiction. Even if you understand the references, in my opinion, they disrupt the flow of the story and immersion in the world of the Kitty novels for the reader. I also noticed a few typos (which should have been caught in editing); this is minor, however, as many novels these days are unapologetically littered with them, so one or two typos is nothing at all.

While this can be either a positive or a negative quality, this novel was formulaic; for me, this was positive and made the novel more enjoyable. The Return Song is a popular story-pattern in oral-derived literature, consisting of an absence, devastation in the absence of the hero, the hero's return, retribution or restoration of order, and... well, I'll leave out the last one since it's a spoiler. :o) I was pleasantly surprised by its use when I finished the novel.

This series ranks as one of my top favorites in the Urban Fantasy genre. If you haven't read it already, do yourself a favor and read it!

Thank you, Ms. Vaughn, for the hours of entertainment you have provided me with, and I look forward to your next novel!

Editorial Review:

Kitty's radio show is as popular as ever and she has a boyfriend who actually seems to understand her. Can she finally settle down to a normal life? Not if this is just the calm before the storm. When her mother falls ill, Kitty rushes back to Denver--and right back to the abusive pack of werewolves she escaped a year ago. To make matters worse, a war is brewing between the city's two oldest vampires, threatening the whole supernatural community. Though she wants to stay neutral, Kitty is again drawn into a world of politics and violence. To protect her family, her lover, and herself, she'll have to choose sides. And maybe become what she hates--a killer.

Editorial Review:

The second book in the internationally bestselling fantasy series, Day Watch begins where Night Watch left off, set in a modern-day Moscow where the 1,000-year-old treaty between Light and Dark maintains its uneasy balance through careful vigilance from the Others. The forces of darkness keep an eye during the day, the Day Watch, while the agents of Light monitor the nighttime. Very senior Others called the Inquisitors are the impartial judges insisting on the essential compact. When a very potent artifact is stolen from them, the consequences are dire and drastic for all sides. Day Watch introduces the perspective of the Dark Ones, as it is told in part by a young witch who bolsters her evil power by leeching fear from children’s nightmares as a counselor at a girls’ summer camp. When she falls in love with a handsome young Light One, the balance is threatened and a death must be avenged.

Day Watch is replete with the thrilling action and intricate plotting of the first tale, fuelled by cunning, cruelty, violence, and magic. It is a fast paced, darkly humorous, haunting world that will take root in the shadows of your mind and live there forever.

Story is Absoultely Dreadful - Audio reader is good though 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I heard great reviews about the Anita Blake series and happened to find the audio version of this one at my local library. I probably should have started with the first book, but this one was available and I really wanted to check out this series.

For the Audio version, the reader does do a nice job of reading the story, but that is the only nice thing that I can say. I got about 1/2 through the book and couldn't continue.

Nothing deep here. Lots of talk about herms, orgy sized beds, and Anita's 7 (YES 7) lovers that she has all at once. There was a story here, but hard to muddle your way through with all the other stuff going on, so I chose to put it down.

I certainly don't mind a book that's a little sexy, but this to me was just plain sick. I hate to be harsh, but this was just plain bad. Her writing style isn't bad but the story is too much to bear.

Editorial Review:

Readers haven't seen anything yet-new in the "fabulously imagined series" (Publishers Weekly) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

Anita Blake is about to face the challenge of her life. Into her world-a world already overflowing with power-have come creatures so feared that powerful, centuries-old vampires refuse to mention their names. It is forbidden to speak of The Harlequin unless you've been contacted. And to be contacted by The Harlequin is to be under sentence of death.

Long-time rivals for Anita's affections, Jean-Claude, Master Vampire of the City, and Richard, alpha-werewolf, will need to become allies. Shapeshifters Nathaniel and Micah will have to step up their support. And then there's Edward. In this situation, Anita knows that she needs to call the one man who has always been there for her...

Dangerously entertaining 5 out of 5 stars.

This book gets right into the story, doesn't have any whining at all and has a good amount of action. I highly recommend this book.

Terrible 1 out of 5 stars.

The plot was boring, the dialogue was cheesy, the characters were flat as a board. I've read my share of bad paranormal books but this one takes the cake. Stay away.

Tempting Danger 5 out of 5 stars.

i really liked this book. the people in it "came" alive for me.

it was all the important thing a book should have, danger, romance, family, suspense, and plot twists just to keep you guessing. in this book, expect the unexpected.

with three book in the series i found that it is necessary to read them in order (don't do as i do).

pick the up, read them and tell us what you think.

THE CONTINUING ADVENTURES OF THE SMART, SEXY — SUPERNATURAL — WOMEN OF THE OTHERWORLD

Eve Levine — half-demon, black witch and devoted mother — has been dead for three years. She has a great house, an interesting love life and can’t be killed again — which comes in handy when you’ve made as many enemies as Eve. Yes, the afterlife isn’t too bad — all she needs to do is find a way to communicate with her daughter, Savannah, and she’ll be happy.

But fate — or more exactly, the Fates — have other plans. Eve owes them a favor, and they’ve just called it in. An evil spirit called the Nix has escaped from hell. She feeds on chaos and death, and is very good at persuading people to kill for her. The Fates want Eve to hunt her down before she does any more damage, but the Nix is a dangerous enemy — previous hunters have been driven insane in the process. As if that’s not problem enough, the only way to stop her is with an angel’s sword. And Eve is no angel. . . .

Kitty the Wherewolf 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Where oh where has my Kitty gone, oh where oh where can she be? Hiding out in the woods and if you think that is a sad ending for a once promising series, just wait until you read the end. No, there is no end so you can't read it. This chapter of Kitty Norville's life sets up some interesting challenges, is Cormac a good guy? (Does anyone think this is Edward's sweet twin?) Is Ben ready for deeper involvement in Kitty's supernatural doings? Can Kitty stay still long enough to write her life story and does anyone care? Oh yes since there is no ending why not make this a cliff-hanger? Can a curse carry over from one book to the next? Let's hope not.

Instead of finding Kitty up to her neck in dirty deeds and strange tales, she's suffering from lack of direction and writer's block. Now it would be wrong to minimize the seriousness of writer's block, but it doens't rank with global warming or peace in the middle east. Get over it and get a story.

After a great beginning and none of the wasted sexuality that plagues Laurel K Hamilton's recent glop Kitty looked so promising. Then this... maybe a silver bullet is just what Kitty needs.

Editorial Review:

After getting caught turning wolf on national television, Kitty retreats to a mountain cabin to recover and write her memoirs. But this is Kitty, so trouble is never far behind, and instead of Walden Pond, she gets Evil Dead. When werewolf hunter Cormac shows up with an injured Ben O'Farrell, Kitty's lawyer, slung over his shoulder, and a wolf-like creature with glowing red eyes starts sniffing around the cabin, Kitty wonders if any of them will get out of these woods alive...

Editorial Review:

In this exciting debut, author Keri Arthur explodes onto the supernatural scene with a sexy, sensuous tale of intrigue and suspense set in a world where legends walk and the shady paths of the underworld are far more sinister than anyone envisioned.

A rare hybrid of vampire and werewolf, Riley Jenson and her twin brother, Rhoan, work for Melbourne’s Directorate of Other Races, an organization created to police the supernatural races–and protect humans from their depredations. While Rhoan is an exalted guardian, a.k.a. assassin, Riley is merely an office worker–until her brother goes missing on one of his missions. The timing couldn’t be worse. More werewolf than vampire, Riley is vulnerable to the moon heat, the weeklong period before the full moon, when her need to mate becomes all-consuming.…

Luckily Riley has two willing partners to satisfy her every need. But she will have to control her urges if she’s going to find her brother….Easier said than done as the city pulses with frenzied desire, and Riley is confronted with a very powerful–and delectably naked–vamp who raises her temperature like never before.

In matters carnal, Riley has met her match. But in matters criminal, she must follow her instincts not only to find her brother but to stop an unholy harvest. For someone is doing some shifty cloning in an attempt to produce the ultimate warrior–by tapping into the genome of nonhumans like Rhoan. Now Riley knows just how dangerous the world is for her kind–and just how much it needs her.
