Never looked or felt better 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this book while eating a Whopper - it was my last one. But BK makes a mean veggie burger. I follow this book in a realistic way for me.. I don't eat meat, I do eat fish, I avoid soda, milk and eggs- but lets get real here when I eat a cupcake I know that milk and eggs went into it. Either way I lost 30 lbs in 8 months and other than going cold turkey on the meat, I didn't radically change the way I ate - I was more aware of what I was eating and I made better choices. I love this book, it takes away your own excuses, you cannot rationalize eating 'one more hotdog' when you are now aware of everything that went into it. I give it an A+

a life-changer 5 out of 5 stars.

Cried at the horrible parts.
Finished the book on July 4 2008.
Tried to eat a cheeseburger that night, but couldn't finish it.
Decided that night to go vegan.
Cleaned out cupboards and freezer on July 5 2008.

Much faster at it now, and spend less money.
Fast forward 4 months.

Happier.
Glass is half-full now.
Never in my life has a single book had so much impact.

Bunch of Rubbish 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book many years ago when our youngest who is now 19 was 3 or 4. It is the typical modern psycho-babble about trying to understand your kids etc. Useless trash. You are much better off going with John Rosemond's "Six Point Plan to Raising Happy Healthy Children". Much more effective tools and practical.
We have 7 children and Rosemond's books were very helpful. If I would have tried to follow the advise in this book, I would have had a nervous breakdown by now.

A thought provoking book 5 out of 5 stars.

I found this book to be very thought provoking and need to read it again and do the exercises to get more benefit from it. It's so easy to interact with my kids 'as usual' - the good suggestions in the book don't always come naturally but when I use them they seem to work quite well.

for desperate moms 5 out of 5 stars.

This is by far the best parenting books I have read. It offers many insights and ready-to-use techniques. It's not like many parenting books with big concepts, which we all know but don't know how to apply. It is full of vivid daily examples with specific ideas to help you respond to your child more effectively. I cannot recommend this book more than enough!

Should be called "from dating to laying" 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book's claim to fame is, simply, its author. Mystery (Eric Van Markovic) is perhaps the most significant of the real-life protagonists in Neil Strauss' iconic pick-up expose "The Game," and he is now probably better known through his reality TV show "The Pick Up Artist" now on VH1.

One thing you learn about Mystery in The Game is that he has a passionate and volatile personality, but can't always stay organized enough to keep up with his own goals. For better or worse this comes out in "The Mystery Method." The book eventually gets around to including specific pieces of advice - and they are gems - but that is your reward only if you survive the first 67 pages. Most of the first four chapters could be described as Mystery's rambling thoughts on women, history, and biology. (Did his agent put him up to that?) Mystery takes fully 12 of those pages to tell you that attraction must come first, then comfort, then seduction. There are a good half dozen good pieces of advice in those early pages, but they aren't useful until you already have mastered aspects of pickup that are described hundreds of pages later. The big disappointment here is that after all that rambling, which seems targeted at guys who need a lot of motivation, Mystery only gives you one "opener" line to say when you approach a woman. One. It's on page 72, and his students overused it on the TV show, also. It's about a fight between two girls and a guy named George. And that is the area where pickup amateurs need the most help. For advice on opening, readers are strongly advised to look elsewhere than this book; Neil Strauss' "Rules of the Game" is dedicated mostly to opening.

Where Mystery's book really shines is in the later chapters, which include specific examples of how to read women, demonstrate high value, and, most important, plan a "miracle" date that will make a woman melt. Women will probably laugh at the endless examples of "IOIs" and "IODs" (indicators of interest and disinterest) that a woman will show a man, but ladies, we need these. Somehow, we were allowed to graduate high school and college without knowing that a hair toss means you want us to talk to you more. Fortunately, Mystery is there for us.

Again, though, the reader has to dig a bit. Mystery's voice wanders between that of coach and memoirist; almost like the book deal might have initially been for a narrative like "The Game" rather than a how-to guide. It's a price the reader has to pay. Ultimately, the men who will get the most out of this book are already good at opening (or have another guide to that), and are hyper-organized good student types. If you can easily separate the sound advice from the self-aggrandizing storytelling and rambling, you'll turn the advice in this book into pure gold.

Editorial Review:

"One of the most admired men in the world of seduction" (New York Times) teaches average guys how to approach, attract, and begin intimate relationships with beautiful women.

Common sense isn't really all that common 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I like this book a lot. Developed for business communication it has applications for many areas of life. I found it clear, instructive, insightful and relatively free of new-age doublespeak. I work in an ER and I communicate with angry people (sometimes including myself) in emotionally-charged situations on a daily basis. I find the techniques presented in this book quite practical.

For comparison I read a few of the negative reviews. Several of them dismiss this book as "common sense." I think they miss the point that common sense is not really all that common.

Best book ever 5 out of 5 stars.

I have purchased several copies of this book as gifts for clients. I am currently re-reading it in order to grasp and absorb the rich content.

Ok 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

While I agree with the four agreements - the ideas are good - I don't like how it is presented. It is based on the presumption that life is a dream of Hell. If you don't agree with that the rest doesn't really follow. If that was left out then I would give this a better rating. I do agree though that these agreements are basic common sense but some people still need to read them.

Editorial Review:

In The Four Agreements, don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting agreements that rob people of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform anyone’s life to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love. These agreements are deceptively simple: Be impeccable with your word (speak with integrity; say only what you mean); Don’t take anything personally (nothing others do is because of you); Don’t make assumptions (find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want); Always do your best (and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret). Peter Coyote’s resonant reading emphasizes the power in these remarkable tenets.

Editorial Review:

Who Moved My Cheese? Is a simple parable that reveals profound truths about change. It is an amusing and enlightening story of four characters who live in a "Maze" and look for "Cheese" to nourish them and make them happy.

"Cheese" is a metaphor for what you want to have in life -- whether it is a good job, a loving relationship, money, a possession, health, or spiritual peace of mind. And "The Maze" is where you look for what you want -- the organization you work in, or the family or community you live in.

The characters are faced with unexpected change. Eventually, one of them deals with it successfully, and writes what he has learned from his experience on the maze walls.

When you come to see "The Handwriting on the Wall," you can discover for yourself how to deal with change, so that you can enjoy less stress and more success (however you define it) in your work and in your life.

Written for all ages, the story takes a little over an hour to listen to, but its unique insights can last a lifetime.

You Can Heal Your Life 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a wonderful tool to learn self love and self acceptance. I read and reread it. There is always more to learn and ponder with every rereading.

Offensive and deluded little book for the bourgeoisie, compacent and worshipers of the self 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 3 people found this review helpful.

What can I say but that the thought process (seasoned with narcissism and treacled with worship of the self) which underpins this little book goes against all that I hold dear. I should add that this was given to me as a present!

Further, it is downright bizarre and borders on the offensive at times. I will quote from it liberally below to support what I have said. Pseudo-religion for the bourgeoise, complacent and self satisfied. I quote from it below (using the page numbers in the UK edition)

"We are each responsible for all our experiences" (page xiii)

This is plainly wrong. We possess a human nature which is subject to the vagaries of the external world - famine, disease, earthquakes. These are simply beyond our control and you bet they affect our experiences. Further this ignores the fact that we are surrounded on all sounds by other persons, who themselves are free agents. They impact on us and thus impact on our experience of life. This statement only can make any sense if it is intended to mean: it is up to us to determine how we respond to internal and external stimuli. But I am not sure she means this limited sense.

"We create every so called illness in our body" (page xiii: Deeply offensive

"Each one of us decides to incarnate upon this planet at a particular point in time and space. " (page 4) "I agree with the theory that we choose our parents (page 30).

Bizaarely we chose our parents as well. Note how in her narcissistic world, she chooses her parents which implies her parents own free will has been impaired in some way - why would they agree to this? Where did she get this from?

"No matter what the problem is, our experiences are just outer effects of inner thoughts" (page 5)

This thinking is dualistic - when our bodies are in pain, we are in pain, our whole being is in pain - we experience pain. Again, she ignores impact of nature and other free agents impacting on us. This echoes Gnostic thought.

"Whenever we are ill, we need to search our hearts to see who it is we need to forgive" (page 8)

I agree that non-forgiveness can cause huge problems for the psyche but if she is suggesting that diseases are caused by non-forgiveness always and everywhere, then it is offensive.

"Self approval and self acceptance in the now are the main keys to positive changes in every area of our lives" (page 9)

I think this statement is one of the keys to her little narcissistic philosophy. There is no imperfection in us - its just all about acceptance of ourselves. Is this Lady oblivious of the 20th century drenched in the blood of the innocent, killed by villains and murderous thugs. All these actions were committed by human beings!

"In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole and complete" (page 9)

What planet is this lady on? We are all broken creatures struggling to make our way through life.

"They (babies) already are perfect and they act as they know it. They know they are the centre of the Universe" (page 19)

Babies are lovely alright but they are not perfect. They howl like mad in the middle of the night when hungry!

"I love you and accept you exactly as you are" (page 19)

A complete loss of the wisdom of the ancients is evident here. The writings of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle are replete with talk of virtue and educating and training oneself to be a virtuous man or woman. The point is: when we look at ourselves, if we are anyway self aware, we must know that things need to be changed.

Not sure I quite follow her because later on she talks about being willing to change - why would we change anything we wholeheartedly and unreservedly approve? A perfect being does not need to change!

"We are here to recognise our own magnificence and divinity" (page 31)

We are not divine - we are creatures albeit creatures endowed with wonderful gifts.

"Whatever we believe becomes true for us" (page 33)

This is plain nonsense. If in her philosophy we are all divine, and one divinity exercises his free will to impact on another divinity, does that not have any effect. Complete and utter individualism.

"My personal nutritional approach is simple, If it grows, eat is. If it does not grow, don't eat it. (page 45)

I wish her all the best eating the lovely wild mushrooms in the neighbourhood!

"I think its is our natural birthright to go from success to success all our life" (page 109)

Oh dear - the mantra of success. This lady is oblivious to the suffering of the multitude - this book is definitely for the bourgeoisie and those who want to continue remain blissfully ignorant of the cries of the poor, the moans of those starving and dying of malaria, typhoid and other conditions.

"I believe we create every so-called illness in our body": Deeply offensive!

"I find that most BLADDER problems come from being "Pissed off", usually at a partner" (page 132)

Well, what can one say to this piece of wisdom!

"Cancer is a dis-ease caused by deep resentment held for a long time until it literally eats away the body" (page 138)

Tell that to the million dying of this nasty disease including young kids and even babies!

"Even if constipated people are not actually stingy, they usually do not trust that there will ever be enough! (page 135)

Well, what can one say to this piece of wisdom!

"Everything I need is revealed to me. Everything I need comes to me" (page 242: Oh dear, very sad really.

Editorial Review:

Truly can change your life to one of self-acceptance and joy. Powerful exercises successfully assist people with major health problems to dissolve the fears and causes at the root of their disease. 4 cassettes.

An engrossing read -- Jesus as you've never seen him before 5 out of 5 stars.
30 of 35 people found this review helpful.

I think the main purpose of Deepak Chopra's Jesus was to be a teaching novel, if I can use that term. A lot of readers will be happy with that, because Chopra's reputation is primarily as a spiritual teacher. But a lot of readers don't turn to fiction for lessons. They want a good story and an engrossing read. I'd like to reassure them that this book is definitely a good read. It might even be that rare thing, a religious page-turner.

I don't think Chopra would be happy with the tag "religious," however, since his ambition is to portray Jesus as someone who belongs to the world, not simply to Christianity. for that purpose, he takes the young Jesus to a far-off mountain setting somewhere in the East, where he meets an enlightened master. Here Chopra is tapping into the lore that has Jesus going to the Himalayas, although he never explicitly mentions if this nameless master is Buddhist or Hindu -- no religious affiliation is given at all. Orthodox Christians may rebel at that, but there's a long tradition of sending Jesus to other countries during his missing years. Albert Schweitzer, among others, speculated that Jesus learned from other traditions, and many Biblical scholars (not the fundamentalist stripe, of course) find many links between Jesus's teachings and the Buddha's.

If those things intrigue you, then this book will prove fascinating. But even if you come to it fresh, the tale holds lots of surprises. Having young Jesus be friends with Mary Magdalene and Judas, for example, throws a new perspective on how those characters fit into the New Testament. There have been many there attempts to write a prequel to the four gospels, but I think Chopra's is one of the most successful, thanks to his deep knowledge of consciousness and his growing ability to tell a riveting story.

Editorial Review:

A Story of the Man Who Became the Messiah

The New York Times bestselling author of Buddha captures the extraordinary life of Jesus in this surprising, soul-stirring, and page-turning book about the journey of a carpenter's son from obscurity to revolutionary leader, to the man many believe to be the savior of the world. From teenage rebellion in Nazareth to his ultimate betrayal in Jerusalem, we gain a new understanding of Jesus--a seeker in search of his calling. With his characteristic ability for imparting profound spiritual insights through the power of storytelling, Deepak Chopra's Jesus captures the life of Jesus as never before, ultimately leading us closer to understanding the nature of God and our own journeys.
Presented unabridged on 6 CDs.
