The 4:8 Principle: The Secret to a Joy-Filled Life

After coaching hundreds of couples, I can tell you that For Women Only stands out as a book that can be a real "game-changer" in marriage. For decades it has been virutally impossible to find relationship literature that truly equipped women to be stronger wives. This book accomplishes that. The vast majority of relationship-oriented self-help books seemed to share the goal of molding men into women as a prerequisite for experiencing a successful marriage. This approach sold a lot of books, primarily to women, but didn't work so well for marriages overall.

In For Women Only, author Shaunti Feldhahn shares the truth about how most men process their world. I can verify this personally and by confirmation of my male clients who aggressively bought this book for their wives when it was released, understanding that the author had articulated precisely what they hoped their wife would know, but didn't quite grasp how to deliver the information to her.

What a perfect solution!

A woman completes the research and then writes a book for women to help them understand and consequently respond in wiser, more thoughtful ways to their husbands (and sons).

I also recommend the companion book, For Men Only: A Straightforward Guide to the Inner Lives of Womenand Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately Needs

If you want to maximize the potential of your marriage, these three books are a must!

Editorial Review:

What's going on in a man's mind? From their early days, every woman has struggled to understand why males behave the way they do. Even long-married women who think they understand men have only scratched the surface. Beneath a man's rugged exterior is an even more rugged, unmapped terrain. What bestselling author Shaunti Feldhahn's research reveals about the inner lives of men will open women's eyes to what the men in their life - boyfriends, brothers, husbands, and sons - are really thinking and feeling. Men want to be understood, but they're afraid to "freak out" the women they love by confessing what is happening inside their heads. This 4-CD audio book will guide women in how to provide the loving support that modern men want and need.

Management musts! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The One Minute Manager is an oldie and a goodie. It's been a fun book to watch over the years as new generations of managers entering the workforce are exposed to it. I recently bought a copy for a new manager that reports to me, and bought the Amazon recommended title Squawk!: How to Stop Making Noise and Start Getting Results along with it.

It turns out Squawk! is a new book that's also for managers, and let's just say I read it while my subordinate was reading The One Minute Manager. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. Both are great books and they're short enough that I suggest following Amazon's recommendation and getting them together at a discount.

Editorial Review:

The original, best-selling blockbuster which has transformed businesses world-wide. Now available in audiobook on both cassette and CD. The blockbuster number 1 international bestselling phenomenon is back! not that it ever really went away. An easy to absorb story, which quickly demonstrates three very practical management techniques. It also includes information on several studies in medicine and in the behavioural sciences, which help listeners to understand why these apparently simple methods work so well with so many people.

Editorial Review:

Deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable contribution in modern fiction: a new perspective of female life in biblical society. It is a vast and stirring work described as what the Bible might have been had it been written by God’s daughters instead of sons.

Far beyond the traditional women-of-the-Bible sagas in both impact and vigor, The Red Tent is based upon a mention in Genesis of Jacob’s only female offspring—his daughter, Dinah.

Author Anita Diamant, in the voice of Dinah, gives an insider’s look at the details of women’s lives in biblical times and a chronicle of their earthy stories and long-ignored histories. The red tent of the title is the place where women were sequestered during their cycles of birthing, menses, and illness. It is here that Dinah hears the whispered stories of her four mothers—Jacob’s wives Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah—and tells their tales to us in remarkable and thought-provoking oratories. Familiar passages from the Bible take on new life as Dinah fills in what the Bible has left out—the lives of women. Dinah tells us of her initiation into the religious and sexual practices of the tribe; Jacob’s courtship with Rachel and Leah; the ancient world of caravans, farmers, midwives, and slaves; her ill-fated sojourn in the city of Sechem; her years in Canaan; and her half-brother Joseph’s rise in Egypt.

Skillfully interweaving biblical tales with characters of her own invention, the author re-creates the life of Dinah providing an illuminating portrait of a courageous woman and the life she might have lived. A new view of the panorama of life in biblical times emerges from the female perspective, and the red tent itself becomes a symbol of womanly strength, love, and wisdom.

The Red Tent is one of those extremely rare publishing phenomenons—a little promoted, but dynamically successful book (over 250,000 copies sold) that owes its success to enthusiastic word-of-mouth endorsements. Now, for the first time, this sweeping saga, which has struck a chord with so many modern-day women, comes to life as a much-anticipated audiobook.

Uplifting, Wonderful, Heavenly Book! Highly Recommend 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

After reading Heaven, you will see the Bible in a whole new and exciting light. This is a wonderful book that is very encouraging. Of course, you will not agree with everything. But it is so uplifting and life changing that you are left wondering how you missed these awesome truths in your previous Bible studies. This is a great book to give to someone who has just lost a loved one who was a believer. It is a great book for unbelievers because the Gospel is so clearly presented. It even contains a very sober and important treatise on the doctrine of Hell. Mr. Alcorn has taken great pains to present clear scriptural references for many of his main points. Countless times, I found myself saying "I never saw that before!" There is so much more in the Bible concerning our life in Heaven that most people would ever expect. This is a great book to use as a Sunday evening or mid-week Bible study tool. It will make you want to share your faith even more. Get this book. You won't regret it.

Editorial Review:

What will heaven be like? Randy Alcorn presents a thoroughly biblical answer, based on years of careful study, presented in an engaging, reader-friendly style. His conclusions will surprise readers and stretch their thinking about this important subject. Heaven will inspire readers to long for heaven while they're living on earth.

Hylarious and moving story of Jesus 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is one great book, just freaking hilarious while also being pretty useful to me.

Lamb gives me context where I hadn't completely understood before.

Christopher tells the story of Christ from birth. While he talks about his life after he comes out and begins preaching openly, he focus much more on Christ's formative years, everything from an interest in sin to learning the ways of the Buddha.

This is, of course, a complete work of fiction. Everything is made of from the author's mind. While he stuck to historical documents to keep some of it accurate, he certainly stretched a lot to make the story fun and fill in gaps which no one knew about.

I can't really explain the book in one post, though I'm always happy to talk about it. Needless to say, I got to live alongside Jesus as he grew up and was shaped by the world around him. I really gained a deeper understanding of the place of Jews within Roman rule as well as what the heck the difference between a Pharisee and a Sadducee was.

The best quotes I got from the first reading of the book were.

Joshua's ministry was three years of preaching, sometimes three times a day, and although there were some high and low points, I could never remember the sermons word for word, but here's the gist of almost every sermon I heard Joshua give.

"You should be nice to people, even creeps.
And if you:
a) believed that Joshua was the Don of God (and)
b) he had come to save you from sin (and)
c) acknowledged the Holy Spirit within you (became as a little child, he would say) (and)
d) didn't blaspheme the Holy Ghost (see c),
then you would:
e) live forever
f) someplace nice
g) probably heaven.
However, if you:
h) sinned (and/or)
i) were a hypocrite (and/or)
j) valued things over people (and)
k) didn't do a, b, c, and d,
then you were:
l) fu***d

Awesome summation of Jesus' teachings. Oh yeah, did I mention there was some swearing?

Then there was this conversation between Biff and Maggie (Mary Magdalene)

"When we were in India, we saw a festival in the city of their goddess Kali. She's a goddess of destruction, Maggie. It was the bloodiest thing I've ever seen, thousands of animals slaughtered, hundreds of men beheaded. The whole world seemed slick with blood. Joshua and I saved some children from being flayed alive, but when it was over, Joshua kept saying, no more sacrifices. No more.

Maggie looked at me as if she expected more. So? It was horrible, what did you expect him to say?

He wasn't talking to me, Maggie. He was talking to God. And I don't think he was making a request.

Are you saying that he thinks his father wants to kill him for trying to change things, so he can't avoid it because it's the will of God?

No, I'm saying that he's going to allow himself to be killed to show his father that things need to be changed. He's not going to try to avoid it at all."

Another great conversation which helped me better see Jesus' relationship with His father.

Definitely pick this book up. It'll definitely ruffle some feathers with the stuff he made up, like Jesus learning the ways of the Buddha and such. It's a work of fiction, get over it.

Editorial Review:

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his thirtieth birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years—except Biff, the Messiah’s best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in this divinely hilarious, yet heartfelt work "reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams" (Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior’s pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there’s no one who loves Josh more—except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdala—and Biff isn’t about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Best book I've read in a long time 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is phenomenal. It changed my life and continues to each day. Francis presents the truth of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. He invites us to the challenge and reality that we're called to give everything up if Jesus asks for it. He reminds us that obedience is the key to genuine discipleship.

Lots of Scripture, great illustrations...this book will keep you on your toes and give you a fresh perspective that all of us that call ourselves Christians need. He invites us to a life that is radically different to the average American, but the question still stands...how will you respond?

Editorial Review:

"Sometimes I feel like when I make decisions that are remotely biblical, people who call themselves Christians are the first to criticize and say I'm crazy, that I'm taking the Bible too literally, or that I'm not thinking about my family's well-being. . . When people gladly sacrifice their time or comfort or home, it is obvious that they trust in the promises of God. Why is it that the story of someone who has actually done what Jesus commands resonates deeply with us, but we then assume we could never do anything so radical or intense? Or why do we call it radical when, to Jesus, it is simply the way it is? The way it should be?"

There is a powerful combination when I read the book while I am listening to Eckhart read it. It brings to Life what he has written.

Stillness Speaks 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a wonderfully thought provoking CD. I find myself listing to it over and over again! It is well worth your time and money.

Editorial Review:

In Stillness Speaks, best-selling author Eckhart Tolle illuminates the fundamental elements of his teaching, addressing the needs of the modern seeker by drawing from all spiritual traditions. At the core of the book is what the author calls “the state of presence,” a living in the “now” that is both intensely inspirational and practical. When the pressures of future and past thinking disappear, fear and frustration also vanish, conquered by the moment. Stillness Speaks takes the form of 200 individual entries, organized into 10 topic clusters that range from "Beyond the Thinking Mind" to "Suffering and the End of Suffering." The entries are concise and complete in themselves, but, read together, take on a transformative power.

Christianity has an image problem.

Christians are supposed to represent Christ to the world. But according to the latest report card, something has gone terribly wrong. Using descriptions like "hypocritical," "insensitive," and "judgmental," young Americans share an impression of Christians that's nothing short of . . . unChristian.

Groundbreaking research into the perceptions of sixteen- to twenty-nine-year-olds reveals that Christians have taken several giant steps backward in one of their most important assignments. The surprising details of the study, commissioned by Fermi Project and conducted by The Barna Group, are presented with uncompromising honesty in unChristian.

Find out why these negative perceptions exist, learn how to reverse them in a Christlike manner, and discover practical examples of how Christians can positively contribute to culture.

unChristian also includes forward-looking insights from respected Christian leaders, adding their assessment of the problems and their thoughts about how Christians should respond. Exclusive contributions from: Chuck Colson, Andy Crouch, Louie Giglio, Dan Kimball, Brian McLaren, Kevin Palau, Chris Seay, Andy Stanley, John Stott, and Rick Warren.

Uncomfortably commercial and exclusive 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I have read a variety of books in the spirituality realm and something about this author doesn't strike me as authentic. I have read many reviews here and the most disturbing are the ones that give little detail as they blindly praise this author's divinity and wisdom.

Here's the thing that I find most uncomfortable: You don't have to sell spirituality. No one has the perfect way that you can only find in his book, or shall I say "series" of books. There are many ways to reach forgiveness, peace, harmony and love. This teaching gives me an uncomfortable feeling of exclusivity. In fact, I wondered why a book about the soul, as written by Sha, was not published by Hay House--a very inclusive, "try everything that works for you"-type of company. After reading the focus and tone, I realize why Hay House might have passed on this manuscript.

I became skeptical early on, but I tried to keep an open mind and give his lessons a try. I only got as far as "Soul Language" in Soul Wisdom when he gave me a number to chant over and over, but I don't know what the number means--it's a secret and he promised to sell that secret to me in another book later on.

"Master Sha" allowed me to call on his soul as I performed my Divine Download, as long as I paid him the common courtesy of returning it when I was done. Perhaps this is an Eastern practice I have never heard of, but it felt too much to me like asking the Priest to bless my relationship with God. The way I believe, I never needed the priest to communicate with God and I don't need Master Sha to "be with me" as I meditate and find peace and wisdom from within.

I feel duped by the five-star reviews and the lack of information here posted on Amazon. I bought this book because of its previous best-seller status and the quantity of high reviews, but I agree with a previous review: something's off about the system here. I would go so far as to say that Team Sha posted more than half of the reviews to promote his "teachings."

The world is in need of and has a desire for a spiritual movement, unfortunately I feel that this "soul series" is cashing in on the market. You can find wonderful, inclusive lessons from Hay House Publishers. I recommend Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Jerry and Esther Hicks--to name a few from that camp.

If you don't want Hay House, try Martha Beck, who writes wonderful books about finding your soul's purpose and following your destiny. Surprisingly, none of the authors I have mentioned require you put their books to your chest in order to invoke the healing power. Save your money.

Editorial Review:

Who is Jesus Christ? In The Third Jesus, bestselling author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra provides an answer to this question that is both a challenge to current systems of belief and a fresh perspective on what Jesus can teach us all, regardless of our religious background. There is not one Jesus, Chopra explains, but three.

First, there is the historical Jesus, the man who lived more than two thousand years ago and whose teachings are the foundation of Christian theology and thought. Next there is Jesus the Son of God, who has come to embody an institutional religion with specific dogma, a priesthood, and devout believers. And finally, there is the third Jesus, the cosmic Christ, the spiritual guide whose teaching embraces all humanity, not just the church built in his name. He speaks to the individual who wants to find God as a personal experience.

When we take Jesus literally, we are faced with the impossible. How can we truly “love thy neighbor as thyself”? But when we see the exhortations of Jesus as invitations to join him on a higher spiritual plane, his words suddenly make sense. In this way Jesus can be seen for the universal teacher he truly is–someone whose teachings can embrace and be embraced by all of us.
