Editorial Review:

PowerPoint is the world's most widely used presentation program, a favorite of educators, trainers, and, of course, those in business everywhere. Yet, every time Microsoft releases a new version of the program, they introduce another set of features---most of which you'll never understand or use. Even if you have experience with PowerPoint, you'll struggle to keep up with the improvements. If you're a beginner, you probably don't know where to start. Now, with PowerPoint 2003 Personal Trainer, beginners and experts alike can become black belts with this presentation program, quickly and easily. This fully illustrated book takes a modular approach to learning, allowing you to start with the fundamentals and work your way to advance topics through dozens of task-oriented lessons--at your own pace. The companion CD tutorial guides you through each lesson interactively. PowerPoint 2003 Personal Trainer includes sections on editing, formatting, drawing, working with word art, tables, organization charts, multimedia, other programs, the Internet, and how to optimize presentation delivery. Every chapter includes detailed diagrams and a review at the end to help you absorb and retain all you have learned. If you already use PowerPoint, you can dive right into those topics (and only those topics) that you need or want to learn. Unlike many consumer software tutorials that dumb down the material or present it in a confusing fashion, PowerPoint 2003 Personal Trainer is written in a non-technical and engaging style that you will find fun, easy, and most of all, clear and informative. You don't have to wade through tons of jargon and technical information to become proficient. Part of our new Personal Trainer Series, this book is based on content from CustomGuide (www.customguide.com), a leading provider of computer training materials. Founded by instructors who grew dissatisfied with the industry's dry course materials, CustomGuide offers courseware (for instructors and students), quick references, to software bulletins and e-learning courses that are fun, flexible, and easy to use.

Powerpoint 2007 3 out of 5 stars.

The price of the book is almost $20 cheaper from the school bookstore but it doesn't have the access code to register/log-in the online activity of the Pearson website. I can't do the class project.

Editorial Review:

The primary goal of this GO! Series title is to teach Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 quickly and easily, with an approach that is based on clearly-defined projects. A key feature of the book is the use of Microsoft procedural syntax: steps begin with where the action is to take place, followed by the action itself. The instruction is error-free, clearly written, and logically arranged. This book provides users with the skills to solve business problems using the computer as a tool. GO! with Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, Brief, 1/e contains a CD-ROM for additional learning opportunities. This edition covers the following topics: getting started with PowerPoint; designing a presentation; formatting a presentation using animation, tables, and charts. Ideal for students and individuals seeking a project-based introduction to PowerPoint 2007.

Editorial Review:

Fast-paced and easy to read, this new book teaches you the basics of PowerPoint 2007 so you can start using the program right away. This concise guide shows readers how to work with PowerPoint's most useful features and its completely redesigned interface. With clear explanations, step-by-step instructions, lots of illustrations, and plenty of timesaving advice, PowerPoint 2007 for Starters: The Missing Manual will quickly teach you to:

  • Create, save, set up, run, and print a basic bullets-and-background slideshow
  • Learn how to add pictures, sound, video, animated effects, and controls (buttons and links) to your slides
  • Discover how to incorporate text, spreadsheets, and animations created in other programs

The new PowerPoint is radically different from previous versions. Over the past decade, PowerPoint has grown in complexity, but its once-simple toolbar has been packed with so many features that not even the pros could find them all. For PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft redesigned the user interface completely, adding a tabbed toolbar that makes every feature easy to locate.

Unfortunately, Microsoft's documentation is as scant as ever, so even if you find the features you need, you still may not know what to do with them. But with this book, you can breeze through the new user interface and its timesaving features in no time. PowerPoint 2007 for Starters: The Missing Manual is the perfect primer for anyone who needs to create effective presentations.

Saved the cost of a course and picked it up fast! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I was going to take a course to learn powerpoint, but the times were all wrong for me, so I ordered this nifty book and with its help put together my first powerpoint lecture with an outline and graphics. It was a big hit with the audience and was easy to do. I think this book is terrific - and 2003 was fine for me - I still have Windows XP. Did this in May 2008.

Editorial Review:

  • Shows how to print a presentation, set up a slide show, work with pictures and clip art, color text and objects, modify the slide master, create a template, insert a diagram or chart, add sound and video, and much more
