Computer Accounting with Peachtree 2006 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The book is well written for ease of following instructions.
The chapter review questions are designed to prepare the
useer for classroom quizes. Many people in our class had
difficulty with the intial installation; there were many
incompatibility problems with various computers. However,
once installed the Peachtree system is easy to use.

Editorial Review:

Computer Accounting with Peachtree Complete 2006, Release 13.0, is Yacht's 10th Edition - no other author or publisher can claim 10 Peachtree editions. NOT for Business Money 2005 3 out of 5 stars.
25 of 30 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book to go with the Business version of Money 2005. When I opened up the package from Amazon, I was disappointed to find that this book does not cover Business Money. Now, I've got to go through the hassle of packaging it back up for a refund. Thought I'd spare you the same experience.

I already have the 2003 version of this book, and found that one to be a great help in getting familiar with the old program. It's written for beginning users and some of the tips are real time-savers. However, the chapters about basic record-keeping information for small business owners are unnecessary filler. The 2005 version looks to be pretty much the same as the one I have. So if you're just doing personal finance tracking with Money, it's handy to have.

Now, if someone would please write an easy book for businesses that use Money!

Editorial Review:

This pioneering book describes the applications of agent-based modeling to financial markets. It presents a new paradigm for finance, where markets are treated as complex systems whose behavior emerges as a result of interactions of market participants, market institutions, and market rules. This includes both a presentation of the conceptual model and its software implementation. It also summarises the result of the profound research on the successful practical application of this new approach to answer questions regarding the Nasdaq Stock Market s decimalization that was implemented in 2001. The book presents conceptual foundations for modeling markets as complex systems. It describes the agent-based model of the Nasdaq stock market, including strategies used by market-makers and investors, market participants interactions, and impacts of rules and regulations. It includes analyses of simulation behavior, comparison with the behaviors observed in the real-world markets (existence of fat tails, spread clustering, etc.), and predictions about possible outcomes of decimalization. A framework for calibrating the market behavior and individual market-makers strategies to historical data is also presented.

Go with the online documentation 1 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

After comparing a sample chapter of this book (chapter 5, Managing the Financials Environment) with the free "Maintaining Oracle Applications" PDF in the 11i documentation set, I must agree with most of the other reviewers here. Chapter 5 of this book parallels the PDF *very* closely -- except that the PDF has a more thorough treatment of the subject!

I had hoped that this book would provide extra, real-world, practical insights that went beyond the product documentation. It appears to do nothing of the kind. Looks like I'll be printing the PDF's on our high-speed laser printer and sticking them in a 3-ring binder....

Contents of the book exactly match the contents of 11i docs. 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Contents of the book exactly match the contents of 11i docs. Don't waste your money buying this book. It is not worth at all. Oracle documentation (install guide, maintain apps, concepts etc) are better when put together in a folder than this book.

Editorial Review:

From the official Oracle Press comes a comprehensive guide managing, customizing, and tuning this key component of the Oracle Applications Suite. You'll learn to install and update Oracle Financials, apply various patches, and much more using this essential resource.

Beginner Bookkeeping 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

As a new business owner, I needed a financial software to handle all my accounting. Quickbooks and this book was the answer for me. The book is easily organized, with an appendix and topical listing and explains enough to me to accomplish the task at hand. While other reviewers find this book limited in detail, as a new business owner, this book worked wonders for me.

Editorial Review:

Along with Quicken: The Official Guide, this is a core title in our Quicken Press line. The previous two editions have sold 35,000 units to date. By continuing to work with Intuit on promotional efforts, we plan to spur continuing growth across Quicken Press titles. -- QuickBooks with over 80% retail market share and more than 2.2 million users is the undisputed leader in accounting software for small businesses. Over 7 out of 10 small businesses who purchase accounting software use either QuickBooks or QuickBooks Pro. -- Osborne's Quicken Press will cover the significant new features in QuickBooks 2000 which is a much more significant upgrade than QuickBooks 99. This is the most complete, authoritative book available on QuickBooks and QuickBooks Pro. As the Official Guide, it is the only book endorsed by Intuit and has received unanimously positive reviews.

Editorial Review:

One of the most important tasks in finance is to find good mathematical models for financial products, in particular derivatives. However, the more realistic the model, the more practitioners face still-unsolved problems in rigorous mathematics and econometrics, in addition to serious numerical difficulties. The idea behind this book is to use Mathematica® to provide a wide range of exact benchmark models against which inexact models can be tested and verified. In so doing, the author is able to explain when models and numerical schemes can be relied on, and when they can't. Benchmarking is also applied to Monte Carlo simulations. Mathematica's graphical and animation capabilities are exploited to show how a model's characteristics can be visualized in two and three dimensions. The models described are all available on an accompanying CD that runs on most Windows, Unix and Macintosh platforms; to be able fully to use the software, Mathematica 3 is required, although certain features are usable with Mathematica 2.2. This product will prove of inestimable worth for financial instrument valuation and hedging, checking existing models and for analyzing derivatives; it can be used for professional or training purposes in financial institutions or universities, and in MBA courses.
